thinking about fallout 4 (& 76) & why it never clicked w me as much as fo3 or nv did. I adore the wasteland ambience. there's smth about the hopelessness & grittiness of the wastelands from 3 & nv. they were grungier uglier & I liked it that way! I loved how alone you felt in 3 & nv, I loved how sometimes the games got really real & depressing about the reality of an apocalypse. fo4 & 76 completely removed this deserted feeling. the colors are brighter & more lively. the wasteland isn't a part of the experience anymore.
& I can't complain too much bc what I'm saying here is the opposite of what I've heard from a lot of ppl. a lot of fans wanted more color in fallout & for the wasteland to be more alive or developed after 200 years, which I do agree that if they insist on making the games 200 years after the bombs fell, then the wasteland should be slightly more organized. but in spite of that, I love the way 3 & nv felt. ideally, 3 canonically could've been set way earlier after the bombs dropped.
like every once in a while, you can get smth beautiful from 4 or 76 that does emphasize that lonely feeling, but 3 & nv did it so well. the wasteland added to the story, & I feel like, at least w fallout 4, the wasteland is just there as a setting or a backdrop for whatever story bethesda slapped onto the game. it feels like they just shoved in the bos & super mutants cause they felt like they had to, but ultimately, I don't think the wasteland in 4 was entirely cohesive to the wasteland from 3 or nv
#fallout#ultimately its subjective & im sure that the settings of 4 & 76 do feel really interesting to some of the fans#but 3 & nv are where my heart lies#& it might be nostalgia too#but 4 & 76 are missing smth#& i think its the ambience#those games dont feel as sad & i kinda wish they were ironically enough#just ranting here so none of this is organized or well spoken i think

The PDL author's note for JWQS chapter 230 is one of my favorites. The author responds to readers who feel Qi Yan is too enthusiastically helping jingnv's cause and abandoning her own people.
Translation (mine, rough and imperfect) and thoughts below.
Please also read Melts' translation of the AN, which is more spare and very accurate and very good. In my trans, I wanted to emphasize some nuances that were interesting to me.
It's been a while since I last wrote a long author's note. Today I must write another.
Yesterday I saw a commenter say Qi Yan is another GuiZu LanHai (TN: internet term for traitor to one's people or country, fanboy who kneels to the enemy). They argue Qi Yan took on so much hatred and unresolved revenge, but she's still helping JingNv and turning her back to her people. I respect every reader's viewpoint. Discussion is a good thing, so I thank you here. And then I thought about it. I believe I have already scattered among several chapters the reasons Qi Yan has for acting like this, so here in the author's note I'll simply sketch out those reasons for this reader, as well as other friends with the same confusion.
First, some superficial reasons:
1. Qi Yan doesn't have many countrymen left. The remaining grass plains people are Tu Ba fighters who ceded to Wei. Qi Yan hates them as well. Cheng Li tribe by now has practically been exterminated.
2. Qi Yan hasn't abandoned his quest for revenge. But unlike Ba Yin and Xiao Die, she experienced more spiritual and psychological anguish [after the genocide], while they were tortured physically and materially. That past shaped them differently.
3. On the one hand, Qi Yan has feelings for Jing Nv. On the other, Qi Yan personally brought about NanGong Rang's death and confessed to secrets that had been repressed for years. A psychologist might say Qi Yan has gotten [cathartic] release for the hatred and blame in her heart.
4. I wrote Qi Yan to be constantly changing throughout the story, from the early Qi Yan who wanted to destroy the entire Wei kingdom, just like Ba Yin and Xiao Die, to follow her growth as she sees more of the world and slowly shrinks the target of her revenge. But the NanGong family, XingJing Fu, TaiWei Fu, Ding Yi clan -- I have kept these as her enemies from the beginning to the end. So while Qi Yan loves JingNv, she still killed NanGong Rang.
It's just that Nangong JingNv has been taken off the list...
5. Let's not forget, Qi Yan is herself of mixed race. Her mother is a Wei woman.
6. Qi Yan is helping JingNv because she loves her. She isn't betraying the plains. As the emperor, for JingNv losing means death. Qi Yan believes she has already exacted revenge for her people. Her remaining enemies she will manage one by one. She doesn't want to start a war.
This is not a betrayal of the plains. So long as they don't send troops, the plains can maintain its current state. Its peoples have experienced brutal violence and injustice, a debt that indeed Wei can never repay, but the peace it has now... whoever destroys it will bring about a new tragedy.
These are mine and Qi Yan's thoughts, which I have folded into the novel. Qi Yan is not a woman who kneels and licks and never will be (TN: lit. kneeling and licking, like a simp, obsequious, fawning). She faces so many difficulties. Even I, the author, can not fathom everything. That's the kind of thing each person can only know for themselves.
Letting go is more difficult than getting revenge.
But Qi Yan hasn't let go. She has only stopped hating the ordinary people of Wei.
Falling in love with NanGong JingNv, that was an accident. And it also... well.
Thank you everyone who donated. There will be an update tomorrow.
There's one pronoun shift in the author's note where PDL refers to Qi Yan w male pronouns. I liked that, so I kept it.
So something I feel the commenter misses is just how much brutal revenge Qi Yan has already visited on Wei people. Remember how Ding You practices his medicine on scores of dying homeless Wei people? Those people are suffering because of Qi Yan. She exacerbated famines. She created poverty where it wasn't there before. She deepened the inequity of a, yes, already horrible empire. People are suffering as a result. Add also, the many commoners she murdered herself to protect Xiao Die and get her political way.
So that's why I think PDL says "Qi Yan believes she has already exacted revenge for her people". Qi Yan spent years pushing Wei to the brink. She no longer wants genocide of its people, hence hesitating to move troops... but she has doomed it as a country and a government.
Also, she has already fucked with her enemies. We as readers have watched her do unspeakable things! She has killed or contemplated killing several people, including children. Nearly a whole clan. She grit her teeth and murdered people who were directly responsible for the genocide of her people.
When Qi Yan sent a note to NanGong JingNv while visiting Ba Yin on the plains, I was like... really, dude? With Ba Yin right there? He endured torture, slavery, abuse, dehumanization. He's raising your sister's child, a product of rape. I thought it was messing with her arc... like, already valuing your wife above your people? This early in the story? But like PDL says, Qi Yan wants to avoid war. And it doesn't serve HER people to go to war... it serves Jiya's. Her love for her wife is significant, but it's not the complete reason for her actions. She is also reflecting her own values.
Also chilling: Her tribe was actually, genuinely destroyed. No one is left.
I believe PDL has been clear that Ba Yin and Xiao Die are justified for taking a hardline stance against the Wei. I also love that unlike Jiya's tribe and the masked person, they are more hesitant to actually commit genocide because of the same experiences that make them hate Wei... and a realization they dont personally benefit from it. They aren't nonviolent, but Qi Yan is definitely more scary. They have their own principles they stick to, while Qi Yan often compromises hers. I like that. PDL is ABOUT it.

HC-NV relationship after the IG post (part 1)
So, originally I wanted to do a reading about Durrells, what we can except and I wanted to do a relationship reading around 22nd of May. But plans changed and I did a realtionship reading instead, after his post on IG
DISCLAIMER: If you will send me an Anon, I will answer the same tone as your ask, opinion is written.
All information and statements made in this reading or any other post of mine are all alleged until proven to be fact and for entertainment purposes & usage only. All information stated is based on my intuition and my tarot cards. Opinion only. The readings have no intention to cause any harm to the individuals, people featured in it.
How does HC feel after the IG post?
Queen of Swords clarify with the Knight of Wands and the Ace of Wands
QofSw (if she is not a person) is speaking up, cleared the air, stand up for what you believe in, get your facts straight, facing up with the truth, make a difficult decision.
So I think he absolutely feels he spoke the truth and cleared the air. Basically, he said to the fans to step back, mind their own business etc.
This is clarified with the KnofW and the AoW. Both represent fire, being quick, rushed etc. KofW is the kick the door in knight. He is also popular, the centre of attention. He also can be narcissistic, and an aggressive player. He can be fiercely loyal but at the same time, he is not reliable. This card also suggests some travel.
The Ace is the start of something. A ready to take action card. It’s you have a vision of your future, you are looking at the bigger picture and willing to take actions. It’s an early stage he feels powerful.
Both Wands especially the Ace suggest sexual tension, sexual energy. It’s also a fertility card, which could suggest a pregnancy. ( I have cards from the previous readings and in this reading too and based on those I will say I don’t see a baby in this relationship at the moment)
I think his goal was to be very passionate, very “ I will tell you what will happen”, because he felt this is the key to a new chapter, to start over. QofSw is also very critical, so I think he wanted to criticise what happed, the fans’ actions, etc.
( I also have to mention that I had an unpublished reading on DG and him and I got the QofSw there too. So I think it could be her too as someone who has something to do with this. But I feel in this situation that explanation wouldn’t be that correct.9
How does HC see this relationship now?
The Fool.
This is again a beginning card, a new journey card. This is not the time when you should hesitate. And we saw above, he made quick, fierce decisions with the IG post. With this whole post, I feel intuitively he reached a turning point. Turning point how he sees his fans, how he wants to be on SM or what he wants from this relationship, I don’t know, but that was a turning point. Not just for him, many of his fans too.
He doesn’t really have plans but he decided to go with the flow and letting go the expectations.
From my 11/04 reading:
The Fool also urges you to do something. He doesn’t think about others, he is saying this is my life, I do what I have to do.
On the card the Fool has a companion, a dog that represents family friends, who are trying to warn him when he becomes too reckless
From my 11/04 reading:
It is also a freshly glowing love when you can be married after a short period of dating or giving an older relationship a new boost. But this card also means someone who doesn’t want to settle down, who is unpredictable and doesn’t want to be in a long, serious relationship someone who is daydreaming and infatuated. The Fool has the potential to have a great relationship but everything is up to you. Nothing guaranteed. This is again, a travel card too.
How does NV feel after the IG post?
The Hermit. 2 of Cups.
Okay…. this is interesting. First, let’s revisit what I said in my previous reading. (06/05)
So! She thinks he decided they are in fact the two standing cups with full of potential. Because let’s face it this post was a clear sign to the fans that she is here, he is with her, he said he is happy and in love etc.
However….
The Hermit turns his back to the couple on the 2 of C picture. So it suggests he ( and I said he, because he was represented by the Hermit before in her POV question, so I think it’s him again) could start to reflect on this relationship, rethink the 2ofC situation. Realise he was on the wrong path, made mistakes, got involved with the wrong people. And I think those questions come up when he is alone and have time to think.
2ofC otherwise is a very positive card in a relationship and one of its meaning is an emotional decision. If it’s a solo card or has different surrounding cards, it’s an excellent card in a relationship spread.
With the Hermit though is take reflect on the relationship, have a second thought about it. It’s too good to be true.
How does NV see this relationship now?
7 of Cups rx
Could mean a lack of opportunity and choices or you have clear thought about something. You know what you want. You have a clear goal and you are heading for it. You have your priorities.
It also suggests a lack of spirituality and being overly materialistic and superficial in life. Having everything but you are still not happy. The attitude when everything is always someone’s fault not yours. It also means party days are over ( or should be) so probably she thinks she had to give up this because of HC in not that party animal.
It’s a reversed cup card, it’s not love.. What should I say?
What the rest of May hold for them?
The Moon.
It is a very complex card but when I draw it I immediately thought ‘illusion’. It could be that they will be living in an illusion or trying to sell one to us. It could mean they will go through in an emotional, mental turmoil. It’s a crazy time for relationships. It could mean they are isolated. It’s trouble behind the scenes, the happy couple only an illusion. The Moon can illuminate many things in a new light, you can realise you are surrounded by lies.
Where is this relationship heading?
3 of Pentacles rx.
Nowhere.
No growth, not learning from mistakes, weak foundation, no team spirit.
No matter what are they communicating, there is no real effort in this relationship. They are impatient, they are rushed. Boredom, laziness, your heart is not in it. Be reckless, taking shortcuts. It also means if you are building a house, something is wrong, something fails, structural problems etc. This also can be a foundation of a relationship. It also means someone who is not able to handle constructive criticism. This also means you have a pattern in a relationship, and things always going in the same direction.
I also drew a 2 months forecast, but I will publish that in a different post ( part 2) because it’s already too long.
All in all, they are selling an illusion and they kinda know it but they are lying to themselves. One of these is the idea that the post gave them a second chance or a new beginning and the illusion that they are a so in love couple. However, I think that was something which consequences are irreversible.
He thinks he did the right thing, he was aggressive enough, he showed how manly he is.
She knows what she wants from this relationship and she thinks she is on the path, but deep down she knows it’s not a done deal yet, no matter how much he ‘protected’ her with that post.

I’ve been in Las Vegas, NV for the last two months by the grace of strangers who’ve become family, living out my dream as a part of the movement to elect Bernie Sanders as a president of the people. I knock on doors day in & day out, canvassing voters. It’s my favorite thing in the world because I get the opportunity to connect with every kind of person about what’s important to all of us. It’s both deeply personal & highly universal. It’s social, cultural & political. Perhaps most importantly, it’s human.
The last door I knocked yesterday, on Superbowl Sunday & the eve of the Iowa caucus, further cemented for me that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be:
A lady answered the door in a zebra robe(!). She appeared initially suspicious & annoyed as many do when a random unexpected person is at your door asking for you by name. She confirmed that it was her that I was asking for. She’s a middle-aged black lady. I let her know the Nevada caucus is approaching in 3 weeks and ask her whether she’s planning to vote. She says absolutely yes but she’s new to Nevada & has never caucused. I break down the info & ask her who she plans to support. She’s not sure yet. She’s not so familiar with Bernie’s platform. I ask her what issues are personally important to her. Healthcare. She goes on to reveal that she was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer. She shares how she’s not only dealing with the emotional reality of having a terminal illness, she’s constantly stressed navigating endless bills, paperwork, doctors visits and fighting with both her insurance & social security, both of which are doing their best to leave her with nothing. She’s overwhelmed by the stress of going bankrupt while trying to live what life she has left.
The record breaks.
I don’t just hear her. I feel her feelings with her. We feel them together. Our hearts are open. We look at each other and I let her know, with everything I have in my heart, that *this* is exactly what I’m fighting for. I want her taken care of. I want her to live. I know she wants the same for me. We all just want to live. I talk about my own lack of health insurance this past year & inability to seek care for fear of the cost. I talk about the role of privatization in healthcare - via predatory industries like insurance and pharma - which care more about profits than our lives. She deeply understands this.
Our people are dying right now as a direct result of a fundamentally broken system. “Yes.” Our lives have more dignity than this. “Yes.” We’re running to guarantee universal healthcare as a human right. “Yes.” We’re running to cancel the crisis of medical debt. “Yes.” We’re running to ensure that our people aren’t dying as a result of their economic circumstances in the richest nation in the world. “Yes.”
I tell her about Bernie’s town halls which highlight people’s stories. I sense it’ll resonate with her because the stories I’ve seen have moved me to tears by highlighting the humanity buried underneath our healthcare crisis. It’s helping to liberate the shame of blaming ourselves for our personal struggles by recognizing that reflected in our collective struggle is the need for systemic change.
Either way, she’s already all in for Bernie. She’s going to caucus. I thank her for sharing her story with me. She thanks me. We share a hug. As I walk away she tells me that she appreciates me. I hope & trust she understands how much this means to me, and how much she means to me. We were human together for a moment, now family forever.
This is not a rare circumstance. These are the encounters I’m having often multiple times a day.
It’s nothing I’m doing. It’s simply an opportunity to be fully human for a moment. It’s our most precious & powerful gift to this world.
There’s nothing more important than this, dear friends. You are all my family, and I can’t settle for a world that doesn’t honor the sanctity of our life here on this planet. I’ve allowed myself to believe in a better world and a better world has been revealing itself to me.
Person by person. Stranger to family.
Please vote in this primary, and vote with your heart. Vote for a future that’s better than you can believe. Vote with your deepest sense of humanity.
Don’t stop there. Do more than vote.
Become a part of this revolution. Offer your life to this revolution. Let your life be the revolution.
It’s been waiting here for you all along.
I’ll end this with the inspired & timeless words of our late brother Martin Luther King Jr:
“Our only hope today lies in our ability to recapture the revolutionary spirit and go out into a sometimes hostile world declaring eternal hostility to poverty, racism, and militarism. With this powerful commitment we shall boldly challenge the status quo and unjust mores and thereby speed the day when every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight and the rough places plain.
Now let us begin. Now let us rededicate ourselves to the long and bitter—but beautiful—struggle for a new world.”
“Deep in my heart I did believe that we would overcome.”
🖤✊🏼✨

We were tagged for questions, so here we are! Thank you @youkaiangel for thinking of us!
1. Favourite movie and why
Alex: I can’t decide. The first one is Pleasantville! It’s super cool and has tons of themes that really make the viewer think. It’s amazing. The second is Catch Me if You Can because it’s based on a true story and it’s really thrilling! It really shows that if you’re smart enough and look confident, you can get away with just about anything.
Lovie: ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ and ‘Clueless.’ I don’t care how campy and 90s they are, they make me laugh and make me feel good on bad days and I will stan them until the day I die.
2. Give us a happy childhood memory
Alex: When I was about 3 I took a big family photo. I remember everyone standing in place, getting ready for the picture. It was a long time ago, but it was the last time that we were all gathered in one place.
Lovie: When I was 10, my Catholic grandmother told me that if I kept reading tarot cards that I’d go to hell and because I hated her I kept reading tarot cards just to spite her and my when my dad found out he couldn’t stop laughing because he thought it was hilarious that I was willing to go to hell just to spite a bitch.
3. If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Alex: Does fruit count as one thing? Delicious and nutritious!
Lovie: Mozzarella sticks or Macaroni and Cheese.
4. Have you ever done anything illegal?
Alex: You a cop?
Kidding. I’ve done plenty of illegal shit. Mostly with friends, since that makes it fun.
Lovie: Nah, I’m too dumb to get away with illegal shit so I don’t even attempt it.
5. Who are your top otome husbands? (I know y’all have ‘em)
Alex: Conrad Schuyler. Yes, I know we can’t date him. But I can dream. Randy and Sigurd are up there too.
Lovie: Elias Goldstein from Wizardess Heart, Nathaniel from MCL/MCLUL, and Ren from Destiny Ninja 2.
6. What was the last thing to make you really laugh out loud?
Alex: This
Lovie: Rick James 1 Rick James 2
7. What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning?
Alex: I usually try and think about happy things so I can start my day off well. Then I think about how much I don’t want to leave my bed.
Lovie: Check my phone for messages, phone calls, emails, notes, ect. I usually don’t wake up until the afternoon so I tend to miss a lot of shit in the morning and gotta catch up.
8. Do you prefer rainy days or sunny days?
Alex: Rainy! Sunny days are plentiful where I live so I don’t appreciate them as much.
Lovie: Rainy days. Absolutely. I love the sound of rain.
9. Have you traveled? Do you want to travel?
Alex: I’ve been to several states (CA, AZ, NM, NV, UT, TX, ID, MA, NH, VT, FL, VA, MD), Washington D.C., Mexico, and the Bahamas. I definitely want to travel more! It’s a dream of mine!
Lovie: I have traveled to California, Florida, Jamaica and Cozumel. And I would absolutely love to travel more. If I could visit Scotland and/or Ireland, I will die happy.
10. What’s one thing you want to do before you die?
Alex: I definitely want to live abroad! I think it would be super cool.
Lovie: Ideally, I would like to write something that’s worth something and becomes popular and touches a wide audience but since that’s more wishful thinking so I’mma say become a librarian and start an educational youtube channel.
We tag: Since this is a joint blog and not a personal one, we’re tagging out ‘biggest fans,’ or the people who have been in our notes a lot lately.
@stephdaninja @donetorhasslichliebe @lunariabloodriver @swordsmanofsweets
Our questions:
1. “Who’s your favorite dateable LI and why?”
2. “Do you speak more than one language and if you do, what are they?”
3. “How long have you been playing dating games?”
4. “When playing an otome, what do you look for the most? The characters, the story or the aesthetic?”
5. “What are your favorite movie/tv show genre(s)?”
6. “What are some of your favorite otome games?”
7. “What’s your favorite myth, legend or conspiracy theory?”
8. “What’s the best thing you’ve ever wasted your money on?”
9. “When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better?”
10. “What are some of your favorite fictional characters that aren’t in an otome game and why?”

Single Review: “I Can Change” by Lake Street Dive
The arrival of Lake Street Dive’s sixth studio album is nearly here, Free Yourself Up set for a May 4th release (and out via Nonesuch Records), the band who seems poised to be one of the next breakout bands in the music world giving fans another riveting look at the album recently with the release of “I Can Change”. A gentle, largely acoustic track, it acts as a vessel for Rachael Price and her stunning set of pipes, the vocalist delivering another ravishing performance that will leave listeners in awe. Soulful and punctuated by hints of a jazz influence, she carefully and gorgeously articulates each word, putting as much emphasis on the next as was noticeable on the last, literally keeping the listener hanging on to every word. Matching the delicate nature captured in the minimalistic music bed to tapping into a deeper, more forceful tone that is rich and lush, her delivery is sincere and heartfelt as she reflects on the state of things in regards to both the world and herself, pondering where society and even she as an individual are and the point both can evolve to.
“Hate casts a long shadow. I know that I lie in it, and let it rule my mind from time to time…” Those opening lines establish “I Can Change” so magnificently, the song being rooted in the hate that persists in the world today, where some want to continue to oppress and marginalize different groups based solely on their race, beliefs, or other ways people choose to live their lives. The chorus, “…I can change. I can still change…” is meant to ring loud and true and resonate with everyone, a call to be better and to move beyond such basic actions and emotions, highlighting a person’s desire to be and do better. To be more respectful of the other lives they get to coexist with on this planet and be more welcoming to all individuals. The second verse ends with another superb line, “…I am scared that I won't get it right. But fear won't rule my heart tonight.” It’s marked by hesitation in Price’s voice, the need to hold oneself to a higher standard ultimately overriding the fear of failing. Perhaps the greatest thing that “I Can Change” has going for it is the fact that, while the message behind it is laid out pretty plainly, it’s still a song that is open to interpretation. The hate it speaks of could just as easily be touching on self-loathing, the change in question running even deeper, perhaps instead referring to a personal battle with some sort of addiction or other destructive behavior. The song providing a reminder that it’s never too late to change and that a future always lies ahead, no matter how off course a person may believe themselves to be. A powerful and stirring song, “I Can Change” further conveys the artistic and musical might that Lake Street Dive possesses. It’s beautifully crafted, boasting wonderful layers and it’s teeming with emotions, the fact that they are more nuanced just making the latest single from Free Yourself Up all the more compelling. dipping a toe in the cool pool
Once you crumple up a piece of paper you can never get it flat again. Every time you shove it in a backpack or pull it just past the break point you’ve done something to it you can never undo. The problem with my life is that I haven’t been through enough real suffering to have invoke enormous transformation that Nietzsche speaks of. There’s clearly a threshold to pain and in comparison to the mass amounts of pain there is in this world, my pain seems like a stubbed toe. Of course not to say that has made any of my hardships easy, but everyone has a baseline for pain. In an emergency room, the first questions they ask is your pain level on a scale of 1-10. As you go through life your 10 could become a 2. Of course the worst pain isn’t physical. Oppression, loss, emotional abuse: That is real pain. The difference between the range rover driving trophy wife and the african slave is their baseline pain.
Nietzsche writes, “But for the creator to appear, suffering itself is needed, and much transformation.” Nietzsche wanted us to be superman, to replace god with ourselves, and he believed the only way to do this was to endure suffering. Suffering is the mass extinction that leaves a hole in the world that is left to be filled with new. Nietzsche sought suffering out through isolation. I don’t think people today would ever seek out suffering. You can get shoved and torn and crumpled, but it’s what you do in the aftermath that defines you. Most people do everything in their power to escape suffering: take pills, go on vacation, actively ignore the harsh realities of our world. “To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering”, writes Nietzsche. Suffering is a chance to create something out of the broken pieces, make something meaningful, and find the beauty in the suffering. Art is the manifestation of suffering. You hear about great people, that they suffered beautifully. Cool shows us that to ignore suffering is to not life fully, and to limit yourself to a boring, unchanging sameness.
I used to be very preoccupied with being happy. Some people will spend the entirety of their lives trying to convincing themselves that they are happy. Sheep are happy. Nietzsche says, “Man is a rope stretched between the animal and the Superman--a rope over an abyss.” You can’t stay on the rope, balancing forever. Where you land on the spectrum: god or sheep? Nietzsche knows that most of us will choose sheep. It is infinitely easier to be a sheep. Humans are the only animals who have the opportunity to move past their “animal” status, and we should. We should, dine, dance, love, and think deeply, because we can. I don’t want to be a god, but I’d hate to die a sheep.
Cool says to reinvent yourself. Everytime I moved, (10 times and counting) I was given a chance to re-event myself. The three most influential moves that formed the person I am today were just prior to freshman year, again junior year, and then college. In middle school I was extremely uncool, looking through my families lense. I had values like: school comes first, always be kind, and playing outside is better than TV. Throughout middle school I became a little clone of all the girls in my grade. My lens taking on my new environment. My new look: Hollister, Victoria’s Secret leggings, and Rainbow flip flops, but most importantly stick straight hair. Though I tried hard to fit in with my peers, I was still the nerdy french girl who ate nutella before it was cool and wore marinier t-shirts. Then I moved to Virginia. Despite my stubborn attempts of denial, I transformed into a Virginia Beach kid. Definition of VB kid: converse with high socks, expensive surfer brands, wavy natural hair, and the don’t care attitude. Slowly, I shed all the Florida that use to camouflage me, and was painted with the vb look. Next, Reno, NV, with a new uniform of Berks, Patagonia, and a false sense of school spirit. As easy as it would have been to lose myself completely in the sea of norm each time I moved, I never managed to conform wholly. I was still a nerd, a foreigner at heart, and still “too nice” to be a cool kid.
I called it adaptation. A word I used extensively in my college application. But what did I really mean by it? That I can learn to fit into many different groups of people? Why would I ever want that? I wasn’t in the “in” crowd, and now I know exactly why that was. I look back on the “in” crowd, still in their hometowns, all attending the same school, going to the same parties, and trapped inside their tiny bubbles. Their world views can’t escape the place they were born, because they’ve never left. I’ve come to the conclusion that I never was really able to adapt to these people because I wasn’t them. My lens will never be composed of just Reno, VB, or Pensacola views. I became a collage with all the little pieces glued together, awkwardly but connected: a piece of Normandy, of my best friends, my sisters, the ocean, the mountains, and a piece of every experience and every person that has ever influenced me. I became someone who craves the outdoors, is loyal to people even when they don’t deserve it, is understanding and open, and cannot seem to stay in one place for too long because of what I know is left out there to explore.
Because of my world view I believe in many aspects of the cool. “We live in an age when unnecessary things are our only necessities”, wrote Oscar Wilde. I believe we constantly forget the real necessities life. Girls at this University walk around with $10,000 on the wrists. I look at that and think about how many plane tickets that bracelet is worth, or even how many meals. However, I believe that truly cool things can’t be bought. The word “need” has been completely distorted in our time. I don’t need a college education. I don’t need coffee in the morning. I do need my health and such things that are constantly taken for granted. But why wouldn’t we? The value of something is based upon how easily it can be obtained, how common it is. Cool people know this. The ability to be unique, creative, and passionate will never have a price tag.
I agree with Gwendolyn Brooks when she writes, “we strike straight”. Cool people are no nonsense. There is no being two-faced. Cool people don’t pretend to be someone they’re not, and they certainly would never say something they didn’t believe, just to spare feelings. My parents were very straight with me. It’s an American concept to tell your kids they’re perfect and can be anything and do anything. America’s the greatest country in the world. College is the best four years of your life. What goes around comes around. These are lies that kids are told growing up to keep us on the “right” path. Wilde says, “Illusion is the first of all pleasures.” People are begging to be deceived. Cool knows the truth. Cool knows America was never great, college shouldn’t be the best four years of your life, (in fact you shouldn't even go) and you can be the best person in the world and life will still screw you over. I’ve spent most of my life looking at one big illusion. The reality is everything is replaceable, your life is meaningless, and most people are the worst. As depressing as that sounds there’s an upside. The sooner you realize it, the sooner you stop trying to fit in with your peers, the more tightly you will hold on to the friends worth keeping, the sooner you stop worrying about insignificant things, and the easier it is to focus on the simple joys in life.
“Death is just down the street”, wrote Brooks. I could die any minute. So why am I wasting any second of it doing things like writing an essay? The answer is unfortunate. The reason I and anyone else does stuff like go to college, is because we are afraid. We lack the courage it takes to deviated from the cookie cutter life we are told to lead. As amazing as it sounds to quit school, go travel the world, and learn through experiencing, for the tiny blip of time my life-span allows me, I don’t do it. It’s sad but I will probably never be brave enough. That is why we respect cool people. They do what all of us are so unbelievably afraid to do. We are terrified to give up our safety, to truly live. Is a 3 hours biology lab really living? Is jogging on a treadmill? Is going to starbucks?
Though I don’t think I will ever be brave enough to be truly cool, but I can inch toward it. When I look back on the times when I felt I was truly living, I see is a London street, a cliff in Hawaii, or the slopes down to Lake Tahoe. Living has everything to do with dying. “Get busy living or get busy dying”- The Shawshank Redemption. Cool tells us to dance with death. I don’t believe in god and I don’t believe in fate, but I do believe that we have this life, and that’s all we get. What else are we here for, but to live? Just as Langston Hughes wrote, “But for livin' I was born.” I believe that even if we’re not brave enough for the gigantic leap of faith that truly cool people take, we still have opportunity for some minimal street credit. My lens is definitely not a “cool” lens, or I would definitely not be here, in Shalala Student center at University of Miami, typing up an essay about how much I wish my life was cooler. I think there are alot of awful things about our world that are more than enough reason to not want to live at all, but there are also things that are reason enough to continue living. We can love. We can taunt death. We can help other people. That to me is cool. Whether you’re a rockstar or a graffiti artist, you are giving something to the world that makes it worth all the bad. This is why I want to be a doctor. Because as uncool as a career is, giving people a second chance at living is worth it.
You can’t expect life to be easy. If you say it is, then you’re either lying, or you’ve never lived at all. As Frederick Douglass wrote, “If there is no struggle, there is no progress.” Cool is struggle, continued struggle, and rebellion. You always have to be fighting for something, against something, or for something better. Freedom? Equality? I want to fight for other people. Throughout my life all the most inspiring people, the coolest people I’ve met were people who fought for others. This is what I believe in because I’ve had the privilege of having degrees of freedom and equality, and yet nowhere near enough. It’s a continuous rebellion, a “private rebellion” (Cool rules). Never accepting the way things are is the key to progress. Never accepting yourself as finished. Never letting anyone put you in a box. I am not my stereotype. Debois writes to this. He knew no matter how many times people tried to tell him what or who he was, he was not that. I don’t want to grow up just to be what everyone told me I was. “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”(Wilde). In a world where original seems impossible, I will continue to change myself and my worldview by peering through many different lenses.

Admin PNW 363 Days Rapidly
I don’t know how to start this post. It was trigged by a facebook montage video of the year now coming to an end which highlighted 363 of those days of my life in the Pacific Northwest (PNW for those of you who haven’t yet fallen in love with the emerald state or its neighbors). I’m sitting here on my rental couch at my new assignment near Seneca SC and it just hit me like a warm shocking thump to the heart how lucky and blessed I have been, how much I dearly treasure my time from Washington State, and how I don’t think I will ever get over or not miss the people that I met there. Maybe I should back up a little…
My assignment in Las Vegas, NV was wonderful. It was a heavy hospital to work at, but like always (something that I’m learning more and more), it was the people who made it worth while and not misery. I think the nurses I worked with there are incredible, and definitely whip-smart and on top of their game. The hospital itself wasn’t for me. It was, not unlike Las Vegas, a little too bizarre and outdated, but you wouldn’t know it from the brains of the people working there. The nurses are ahead of their game, while the hospital lags seriously behind in both technology and infrastructure. Which is sad really, and does a large disservice to it’s staff. Anyway, I learned a lot. That in and of itself is invaluable. I learned to use drugs and drips and methods not used in the southeast - I learned different approaches to triage and patient care - and I learned how I can actually stand the heat of the desert well as long as it’s not both hot and humid.
My first travel-nurse experience and assignment was well worth it and I am blessed and lucky to have done it, but I don’t yearn for the desert heat of NV like I do the damp cold invigorating air of Washington. Nor do I feel the dark yet simultaneously brilliant oranges and reds of the canyons and sunrises have embedded themselves in my heart like the strikingly emerald evergreens, cedar forests, and snow-capped awe of the mountains in the PNW have. I miss it. I yearn for it every day, and while it’s sad that I ache for it, I would never change it. And for all the brilliantly green forests, the wide expanses of mountain ranges, the cliffs over oceans that take your breath away, the heavy fog that dreamily floats by the peak of Mt Rainier, and the jutted stacks in the gray-blue ocean seeming mysteriously abandoned -of another time- with brilliant purple and blue sunset behind it, nothing could describe the absolute value and love I have for the people I met that turned into friends during my almost-year in the Pacific Northwest. I can’t even begin to name names, so I’m not going to try. I hope that by now I have expressed to each of you how grateful I am for your friendship. I hope that one day we all run into each other again, and our lives are forever crossing and intersecting and hopefully occasionally running together. I want all the best in the world for each of you - and I hope happiness awaits you in every corner of every facet of your lives. I also hope I get to hear about it. Oh wait, that’s what facebook is for!
So many good things have populated my life over this past year. Along with travel has come the opportunity to miss and cherish my family at home. It’s the simple “absence makes the heart grow fonder” saying, but while I can’t say I was ever “less fond” of my family, I can say my heart feels as if it’s been able to grow and love each and everyone of my family members more. And some newly <3 My little nephew Layne came into this world on March 30th, 2016. Needless to say, that little monster who I love so much has been the hardest part about traveling and being away. Every single moment with him is precious - his laughs, his inquisitive little engineer brain, his fascination with everything motorized or loud, and his sweet little voice and hugs. He is simple pure joy and light. Before him I never thought of myself as an ‘Auntie,’ but now I wear it like a badge of honor. I hope he knows how much he’s loved. I know his mama and dada - his DiDi and Pop Pop do a bang up job. So while this post was originally intended to jot down a note or two about how much I miss and love Washington and everything about it, it’s also a priviledge to be back near home in South Carolina so I can spend time near my family and get to witness up close the fascination that is him growing and learning. I love just being in the presence of my mom and dad at their home. I soak up every second like a sponge. It’s calming and grounding - like the warmest blanket and a bear-hug on a blustery day. I watch my best friend in this whole world, my big sister Savannah, put together her house and make it a home - make her little family a unit - and I wonder and awe at her strength and creativity. I know she gets it from both my mom and dad. I see my little brother - who isn’t little at all anymore - my gosh he’s so freaking tall and all muscles - grow and bend and he’s becoming this incredible man that he as of yet has no idea about. He’s all strength and all heart and humble, but he knows what he wants and he’s steady and tenacious. I can’t wait to see what he does in life. My little sister is a true heart. She’s delicate and special, yet bursting with love and passion for life. She breathes energy into life and it back into her. She pursues her passions with abandon - she trail rides and cares for animals and marches to the beat of her own drum. She’s a force to be reckoned with. My big brother is one day going to take the world by storm. He’s the hero of a book not yet published, and probably a good thing, because I don’t think the world is yet ready for him. I wonder if even he knows the greatness that lies within and in front of him.
I can’t believe the blessings I have in this life, and the love I get to bask in. I’m so thankful to the God above for the life he’s letting me lead. I’m so grateful for this journey I’m on and the world that I get to explore with abandon. It’s so easy to have wings when you know where your roots are planted. I can’t wait to fly off again and start a new travel adventure. I hope that my friends and family know that it’s because of them that I’m so free to wander. But for now, some pictures to follow of the PNW that will forever have my heart, and to enjoy the holidays near family and old friends. All in all, 2017 has shaped up to so far be the best year of my life.

dknight magicbox 2 review
Just like on the lookout for an Android telephone, it can be a fairly daunting process to discover a first rate speaker. DKnight Magicbox Wireless Bluetooth Speaker is one of the best wireless Bluetooth speaker for a sure group of customers. Since the main cause for considering a unit like this for a lot of customers is Bluetooth connectivity, we tested it and it worked simply high-quality. Check out the specs beneath to be taught extra in regards to the features included in this top three wi-fi Bluetooth speaker in 2015. This is an inventory of fine portable wireless bluetooth audio system which value under $50 and isn't in any particular order. For a more detailed dknight magicbox review go to our website http://dknightmagicboxreview.com/dknight-magicbox-review/.
I bought this at Cyber Sunday. We arrived to postpone the upgrade HD for years, while prices go down and quality up. I use Vizio and Panasonic plasma displays at the site of AV productions. And even if I have a good videographer So I'm pretty picky. Also, do not have any relationship with the Vizio is also not allowed to care for the success of specific products. This is simply an honest analysis!
If you are going to create a recreation room, and you have a huge 3D HDTV then it would be a good idea to add a home theater system to it. Viewing high-definition is not complete without a good set of speakers to go with it. If you are looking for high quality home entertainment speaker that blows your mind away, so you might consider a home theater speaker mirage entertainment. To take a look at another in depth DKnight MagicBox review go here.
DKnight MagicBox II Bluetooth 4.0 Portable Wireless Speaker, 10W Output Power With Enhanced Bass, Build
The built-in 4000 mAh battery is strong and reliable enough to provide many years of consistent and continuous use, however what's almost as important is that the Bluetooth technology is up to date and capable of handling serious audio data. This ease of use functionality has for the most part been carried over from the much less expensive, previous versions of the MagicBox by DKnight.
Native Union iPhone Marble Charging Dock —Check out this dock for those of you looking to add a touch of luxury into your room. Let your phone rest in pure upper echelon bliss in your marble charging dock that will surely match any room with its two shade color options.
The speaker is portable, and can be easily carried with you. However, you also have the choice of leaving it on your bookshelf, or in the shower, because of its nifty design. It enhances the interior decor by a great deal. The speaker includes a rechargeable Li-Ion battery. When charged completely, the speaker can go for 8 hours non-stop music playtime - with a USB charging cable is also included in the package. Its Bluetooth v4.0 technology ensures the consumption of less battery power, while still consistently delivering that high quality sound at a range of up to 33 feet.
The Denon is superb in terms of audio performance. When we fired up some tunes via Spotify, the first thing we noticed was that the bass sounded fantastic - we were surprised at how very well this speaker handles low end frequencies. The low end starts to roll off at around 70 or 80 hz. The frequency response for this is very flat and even. The only frequencies we thought were a little off and could have been boosted a little more were the high end frequencies. The high end sounds great, but we thought it could have been boosted a little bit. You can just adjust this via EQ if needed.
The EXOGEAR ECOSTONE is one of the best portable bluetooth speaker for outdoor sports and outdoor activities in general. It is not just water resistant but actually 100% waterproof - you will never have to worry if it gets knocked in the pool, falls off the boat, drops in the river, lake or ocean. It's designed to float, making retrieving this device pretty easy. The 100% waterproof acoustically engineered speaker provides a loud, full sound with crisp highs and clear vocals via the dual full range integrated speakers and rear mounted subwoofer. It also comes with a built-in LED flashlight and top mounted battery indicator. Adrenaline junkies who love to have their music outdoors will definitely love this awesome portable bluetooth speaker.
LAS VEGAS, NV (January 6, 2010) - Panasonic today introduced its first audio theater system, the new SC-HTB1, designed as a slim single bar-type speaker system with integrated subwoofer for rich, low-noise bass. The SC-HTB1 fits neatly in front of the TV and offers enhanced sound quality as an easy-to-install, stylish alternative to a dknight magicbox review sound system or the sound system built into a television.
There are many reasons we like the HW-K950 so well. It offers nothing less than heart-pounding, pupil dilating aural thrills. It's also extremely easy to setup, requiring simple HDMi connection. But the major reason we picked this bar is for how well it handles virtual Dolby Atmos sound. Experiencing the surround sound of the HW-K950 is nothing short of engrossing. While there are some minor misgivings about the mid range, the HK-K950 does both subtlety and bombast equally well. Whispers, wind, and softer effects come across clear, while massive, booming bass-driven sounds are downright chest-rattling.
If you remembered our list of the Amazon Top 10 Best Selling Portable Speakers of 2015 , the one which has been ranked high 1 was the moveable wi-fi speaker coming from DKnight. Inside the DKnight Magicbox are two 40mm acoustic drivers that push a total of 6W. The quality of sound via these audio system is pretty amazing even at close to max levels. The micro SD card slot found on the unique Magicbox is no longer right here, so if that's something that you use typically this may not be for you.
Based on other speakers of similar size/price I rated these speaker as good (4 stars). The XBOOM CERAMIC speaker performed well with music without strong base as well as when I listened to spoken human voice (e.g. news), bass did not sound as well but not terrible.
One that stands on best seller list,SoundBlock Ultra Portable wireless speaker has a Bluetooth 3.0 Technology allows you to connect wirelessly to the Soundblock from up to 33 feet away. Premium Sound with Bass Enhance Technology. Two powerful 40mm Drivers deliver crisp clean sound with deep bass. The Speaker allows you to connect the speaker directly to a standard headphone jack. This wireless speaker built-in Microphone for Taking Calls. It also has Audible Low Battery alerts.
With all of this functionality as well as some advanced features discusses in the next section, battery life is going to be at a premium.Because the battery is so important to all three qualities of performance, durability and ease of use, there's a 4000 mAh battery built into the Big MagicBox that's completely rechargeable with the included micro USB charging cable.
Mirage offers so many models to choose from that come in different sizes to meet different needs. If you want a portable kit that is easy to move, but will still give you excellent sound quality, so Nanosat Mirage 5.1 is the perfect model for you. This is an opportunity for a large room where the speakers can not be achieved and is impractical to install. The home theater system Nanosat mirage may be small, but powerful enough to accommodate a moderately large room. It even comes equipped with a subwoofer and five small satellites of 2.9 books that are housed in a 2.75-inch mid-woofer and a 0.75-inch tweeter.
There are many factors that go into producing a dedicated theater space. In the production plans, is vital to the projector screen or HDTV, Blu-ray, and a surround sound system. For people who are unwilling to complete the evaluation to locate the individual components, there are home theater in a box and products all the options of integration needed to acquire begun. For an enthusiast is, Blu-Ray to turn participants the best home theater plan for theater for you personally could be considered as a stage in a plan which includes Blu-ray box , wireless speakers, and media streaming Netflix and Pandora.
The Audio-Technica ATH-M10 is the ideal type of headphones for professional mixing and monitoring. With an affordable price of $29.99 they deliver an exceptional sound clarity with a natural frequency response of 30 - 20,000 Hz. With 40 mm drivers, special audio cable connectors for dual sided straight 3 mm, stereo 3.5 mm and snap on 6,3 mm adapter.
TP-Link AC1900 Touch Screen Wi-Fi Range Extende r—For those of you with houses where the wifi never seems to quite reach the entirety of the floor plan, look to TP Link to expand your range up to 10,000sqft, while streaming and gaming to your heart's content. After potentially spending exorbitant amounts of money for wifi and tech, it only makes sense to use them to its max capacity, with TP Link's amazing range extender where the complaint of I can't get the wifi” doesn't require the response of move around and wave your laptop in the air”.
In terms of size and portability, the Esquire Mini is about the size of a phone, so it is very portable but yet still loud enough for most uses. It syncs with multiple bluetooth devices so you can even have your ipad and iphone attached and can listen to your ipad and then answer an incoming call you're your phone seamlessly. With the ability to connect to a wide range of smartphones, tablets and computers via enhanced bluetooth, the Esquire Mini Gold makes a very good on-the-go wireless audio experience. The noise cancellation works well, in our tests it blocked out all echos that normally occur elsewhere. It has a convenient way to mute a call and a button to quickly answer an incoming call without need to go to the phone. Hope you found my dknight magicbox review useful.

Another Amazing Kickstarter (Dust, Fog, and Glowing Embers, an RPG by Slade Stolar —Kickstarter) has been published on http://crowdmonsters.com/new-kickstarters/dust-fog-and-glowing-embers-an-rpg-by-slade-stolar-kickstarter/
A NEW KICKSTARTER IS LAUNCHED:
What if all of the systems that were supplanted by science prevailed? That is, what if science lost? For example: What if alchemy rose to prominence instead of chemistry? What if numerology were the main branch of mathematics? What if the four humours were our explanation of human behavior, rather than psychology? What if the reading of goat entrails were the most accurate method of weather prediction?
From dark alleys to high-street shops trepanning, séances, and blood-letting would be commonplace.
In Dust, Fog, and Glowing Embers, you enter a world at the cusp of its industrial age. You embody characters that have to face a world in which all kinds of strange physical laws apply. This is a science-fiction game, although from the perspective of a version of the proto-industrial past. Your characters are special because they have access to spagyric essences (plant-based alchemical substances that allow them to become as rarefied as mist, light fires by exuding sparks, or whip up dust storms to blind their enemies), which make them the perfect tool for unsavoury people to exploit.
Your pledge will help to create a book (in PDF and print-on-demand formats) that contains the rules and setting of this table-top role-playing game. Aside from pencils, dice, paper, and compatriots, the book will contain all that you need to start telling stories in the world of Dust, Fog, and Glowing Embers.
The BioShock (1, 2, and Infinite) and Fallout (1, 2, 3, NV, and 4) video games are inspirations. The extant table-top RPG Into the Odd has a similar setting. Vampire: The Masquerade has similar powers. From Bioshock and Vampire, I want to take the idea of having incredible powers that feel like they are slowly corrupting you. From Fallout and Into the Odd, I want to take the idea of a setting that is gritty and oppressive and anachronistic, while still being darkly funny.
This game uses the same the core dice mechanics as our previous game The Indie Hack, in which two dice are rolled, one Light, one Dark. The Dark Die represents the character’s prowess. The Light Die represents the challenge that the character faces. The highest result is the winner, with degrees of success based on the difference between the two dice results. Of course, you will add one of your three attributes, namely, Tough, Precise, or Clever, to your Dark Die result.
The main units of narrative that you’ll be adding to the story are called details. Details are properties or conditions (e.g., the ornate pistol you found in the cellar of the judge’s manor might have the details Rusted and Engraved with occult symbols). Details are written down when they are added to a character, scene, enemy, or item, and are crossed out when they are no longer applicable. The better your dice result, the more details you get to add.
The core rules shared by The Indie Hack and Dust, Fog, and Glowing Embers are available in a System Reference Document, which you can use to start making your own hacks: https://scablandspress.com/srd/
Your character is a wretch, an undesirable, an outsider, a pariah. You turn to a Patron to better your life; they exploit you to enrich theirs. They give you spagyric essences to grant you incredible powers, but these substances take a significant toll.
Fleshing out characters and additional world-building occurs at the start of the game. Once you have your group at the table, you follow these steps to create a gamut of complex outcomes:
Create your Patron; your Patron’s lusts will dictate the kinds of tasks you must complete (or risk losing their favour).
Choose your character type, from among Raven, Swan, and Phoenix. Take extreme attributes, more aptitudes, or a balance.
Answer several questions about your place in the world. Where can you never go, and why? How long has it been since you last saw your lover, and why? What causes you the most resentment about being a lackey, and why? What makes you want to destroy your Patron, and why can’t you?
Choose your spagyric powers. Exude cinders to light rooms or start fires, whip up sand to sharpen swords or blind foes, become mist to avoid attacks or slide under doors.
Choose your prime humour, among melancholic, phlegmatic, choleric, and sanguine. Your personality evolves mechanically as you interact with NPCs.
The City of Stome lies at the heart of Our Commonwealth. The streets are built upon layers spanning hundreds of years of compacted waste, bodies, and ruins. The streets are filled with horses, cheroot smoke, and fog. While walking, you pass cloaked, soot-smudged, sweat-sticky people.
The main districts of Stome have their distinct flavours:
Black Hall and the Inner Courts – The Government of Our Commonwealth, including its courts and police stations
The Promenade – A pathway good for brisk walks (enjoyed by lovers and muggers alike)
The Eastern Heights – Opulent manor-houses far from the smog, but with their own (subtler, more insidious) dangers
The Circuit – Factories and slaughterhouses around a ring road
The Wold – Temples of all faiths and vast cemeteries
Beyond the city are farms, forests, and fields, but also:
The Fens – A corridor of swampy wasteland, home only to odd beasts
The Felnwol Caves – Labyrinthine sandstone passages hiding riches from ages past
The Undercity – Black markets and enigmatic characters (worthwhile if you can stand the smells)
Each district will have random tables of themed events that can be used (by the players or the GM) to drag the players into unexpected conflicts and offer unexpected rewards when they “Go looking for trouble”. A sample is shown below.
The nation simply known as Our Commonwealth, unlike Stome, is not yet well defined. We hope to expand upon it in various ways via stretch goals from talented folks in the online RPG community.
Slade Stolar – Has written the engine and setting of the game.
Dirk Leichty – Has drawn some amazing artwork, and will draw yet more. You can see a handful of excellent examples on this Kickstarter page.
Oli Jeffery – Will be doing layout to give this game polish. There’s a sampling below (note that the text and page numbers are not final).
The music that you hear in the video is The Spirit of Russian Love (violin) by Zinaida Trokai by Kosta T. I think it’s beautiful and haunting.
We are asking for your financial support and input (as creative GMs and players) to complete this project in a way that is professional, comprehensive, and effortlessly usable. Art and layout of this high quality can get expensive, and a broad supporter base reduces per-unit costs. Additionally, in many ways, it is impossible for us to know how you would play this game; no amount of internal playtesting would be sufficient to address all the issues that might arise (even ones that are obvious to your group), that is, the powers of the game could be very unbalanced if approached differently. We want to locate and solve any such issues, and to cite you as contributors to the rules. Furthermore, we want this game to be hackable; we need to know how to make the core ruleset work for you beyond the world of Dust, Fog, and Glowing Embers.
Note that all submissions by Contributors and Patrons are subject to in-good-taste approval by Scablands Press.
The current budget is as follows:
Kickstarter Goal: $2,200 CAD
Artwork – $800 CAD, which includes the cover and over 15 illustrations in the style seen above, such as enemies, characters, items, and a map
Layout – $340 CAD, which means creating pages like those above; backgrounds, ink splats, and other embellishments
Editing – $530 CAD, which means professional editing of the document
Fees and Taxes – $530 CAD, which seems high, but includes my income taxes for the KS funds (I will declare this as income) and the KS-based fees
$4,000 CAD – [Locked] – The Burialmounds, a setting PDF by Thomas Novosel, given to all at Digital Copy level and above.
When the flesh begins to harden, the skin starts to crack, and the mind becomes scattered across the wind, it is a sign. It is a sign that your existence can no longer hold itself together after you have–time and again–weakened it. You blow away, only to materialize on the Burialmounds. This floating mass of dirt and consciousness pulls itself through the sky with tendrils of rattling chains. It is a prison for those who have abused the spagyric powers that have been discovered.
The Burialmounds is where spagyrists often find themselves when they can no longer hold their bodies together on their own. It acts as an anchor for the warped and anatomically volatile that drifts aimlessly across the lands and seas, holding The Damaged, Vultures (a new player class), and powers that only the most broken may conjure from the void beyond this world.
$6,000 CAD – [Locked] A Mystery Setting Supplement, given to all at Digital Copy level and above.
$8,000 CAD – [Locked] A Mystery Guest’s Hack, given to all at Digital Copy level and above.
$12,000 CAD – [Locked] Another Mystery Setting Supplement, given to all at Digital Copy level and above.
$16,000 CAD – [Locked] A high-quality hardcover digital offset print run. Heavy paper. Rich ink. Available to all at Digital + PoD Physical Copy level and above; just pay printing and shipping (however, at the Digital + Physical Copy Shipped to You level, don’t pay anything more).
Every $4,000 CAD thereafter – [Locked] ???
More stretch goals will be revealed as they are unlocked.
Printing and shipping are always difficult parts of planning a kickstarter that involves a book. We are working with DriveThruRPG.com to bring you high-quality physical print-on-demand products and integration with a massive online collection of existing role-playing games at the lowest possible prices.
Print-on-demand books will ship from the United States or the United Kingdom. Estimated standard shipping prices for softcover books are as follows (all prices in USD):
USA – $5 USD
UK – $6 USD
Germany – $7 USD
France – $8 USD
Canada – $7 USD
Using DriveThru, you can combine your physical print-on-demand reward with other items to reduce your per-item shipping costs.
Additionally, you’ll be able to choose your print quality:
Standard quality softcover – $4 USD
Premium quality softcover – $14 USD
Standard quality hardcover – $9 USD
Premium quality hardcover – $19 USD
Note that final printing costs will be based on final page count.
DriveThruRPG lets us at Scablands focus on making the best possible product, rather than worrying about fulfillment.
