he says i hate everyone except you and that is addictive and that is kind of romantic and beautiful because you're young and you're kind of a sarcastic asshole too and you don't like bad boys, per say, but you don't really like good ones either. and you like that you were the exception, it felt like winning.

except life is not a romance book, and he was kind of being honest. he doesn't learn to be nice to your friends. he only tolerates your family. you have to beg him to come with you to birthday parties, he complains the whole time. you want to go on a date but - people are often there, wherever you're going. he's just so angry. about everything, is the thing. in the romance book, doesn't he eventually soften? can't you teach him, through your own sense of whimsy and comfort?

at first - you know introverts often need smaller friend groups, and honestly, you're fine staying at home too. you like the small, tidy life you occupy. you're not going to punish him for his personality type.

except: he really does hate everyone but you. which means he doesn't get along with his therapist. which means he has no one to talk to except for you. which means you take care of him constantly, since he otherwise has no one. which means you sometimes have to apologize for him. which means he keeps you home from seeing your friends because he hates them. you're the single exception.

about a decade from this experience, you'll type into google: how to know if a relationship is codependent.

when I say I will miss carlos in ferrari, I do not mean the way the team never loved him as much as he loved them, the way his victories and good days weren't celebrated, the way he had to often sacrifice his race for the supposed greater benefit of the team, the way when he obeyed he would be criticised as a racer because that wasn't a champion's mentality, and would be berated even worse when he disobeyed because that was selfish and not what ferrari stood for. I do not mean the teammate who never had respect for him, who felt it was okay to denigrate his character to the media, make desultory apologies that only added to the vitriol he got, who never really seemed to see them as equals.

when I say I will miss carlos in ferrari, I mean the chance at race wins and maybe championships that ferrari afforded him, the rich history and legacy that the team holds that not many can carry as well as carlos did, him in red because no one seems to don that red as well as him. I will miss the team that gave him his first taste of the highest highs this sport offers, and maybe the last. but mostly, I will miss the the way carlos loved that team, the way this was his childhood dream, and the way that dream ends for him now.

God I'm sorry but Em Friedman is the Dnd Shorts of Actual Play writing. The Burrow's End coverage is egregiously off-base and there's just a pretty profound ignorance of How Things Work. Like, how TTRPGs work, but also how Actual Play works, and more generally how fantasy as a genre works, and there are some significant errors in really simple things such as the fact that ACOFAF used D&D, and usually Polygon has a bit of editorial integrity but this is giving like. we're only on episode 3 so there is PLENTY of time for GMMtv to disappoint me and go off the rails, but so far Only Boo is falling into the same category for me as My School President: a simple concept, executed well, played by actors who understand their characters and writers who approach the script with earnestness. it would be very easy for Moo to be a pushy, spoiled, whiny prince, but thankfully he's just a sweet, overenthusiastic, confident guy. in the same vein, it would have been easy to make Kang a grouchy, mean, stick-in-the-mud, but instead we are treated to an introverted, thoughtful, rough-speaking but well-meaning kind young man. I think both actors are doing very well, but especially Kang's actor, who is a complete rookie. there's a sense of depth and weight to Kang-- he's got a lot going on internally, and Sea is able to show that through small details in his acting. it's fantastic. if you've been on the fence about watching Only Boo because it's yet another GMMtv high school BL, I recommend giving it a shot. it's cute and charming and funny and very earnest. plus Milk is there.

The New Year has arrived in my tiny corner of the world for a while now. I'm not going to make a post cataloging what happened in 2024 like I did last year: it was tough, and lonely, and exhausting, but also surprising, rewarding, and full of luck in the form of new connections and new beginnings. I'm grateful for it and hope for a better 2025. KinnPorsche The Series change the course of my entire life. This November marked the 2 years since I watched it, and the passion is still there and burning bright. I'm not ready to let go just yet, which means more posts and more fics. There was also 4 Minutes which blew me away and inspired in me ideas I'd love to explore further, so there will be posts and fics for it, too. In between these, there might be a Dead Friend Forever fic or two. Thank you to everyone who follows me here, everyone who likes and reblogs my posts, everyone who checks out my fics and leaves kudos and comments. Writing has been super difficult this year for reasons I can't articulate but the few stories I got to post were pulled out of my heart and soul and shared with you. I truly hope you enjoyed them.
