everyone's been talking abt the yj girls and their body hair............
what if......... i also....... had something.......... to say.......
Tumblr media
if it wasn't obvious, this is body hair headcanons for the yj girls
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
jackie -> i feel like she waxes EVERYWHERE. mainly bc she feels like she has to. i feel like she leaves a tiny patch tho (shaped it into a heart a few times) something something societal roles.
i feel like her hair is really fine tho, like even when it grows out it's super light and only really shows in certain lighting
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
shauna -> BUSH SHAUNA BUSH SHAUNA. maybe trims now and then but overall doesn't touch it. shaved her legs for soccer but doesn't really give a fuck. shaves her armpits once a blue moon.
thick hair but not coarse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
lottie -> i saw someone say she cuts it into little shapes. agree. lottie cuts her pubes into little shapes bc she thinks it's cute. i feel like she regularly shaves her armpits/legs tho
coarse/curly hair, which is why she keeps it in check. it's not thick, but the curls make it annoying
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
nat -> fuzzy. trims it to some extent but only when she remembers. does not give a fuck about her armpit hair. shaved her legs precrash just bc of how dark the hair was
this bitch is italian. she has thick, dark, coarse hair. like you can see that shit from a mile away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
van -> fire crotch. don't think she really shaves anywhere, doesn't care "into the wild aspect of our bodies"
lots of hair but it's thin. does that make sense?? like there's so much of it but the strands are so thin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tai -> trimmed bush. doesn't shave other parts of the body unless it's for formal occasions (something something societal expectations)
thick, curly, coarse and black hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
misty -> i think young misty doesn't give af but older misty trims it for fun/when she has time. (she makes designs sometimes like nat's name in a heart -@cassioo) doesn't shave her armpits/legs cus she's blonde and the hair doesn't really show up??? like unless you're looking really close or under certain angles you can't see that shit
lots of hair but it's thin.
I AM A PROUD SUPPORTER OF THE YJ BUSH MOVEMENT!!!!!!!!!
@cassioo basically co-wrote this btw

I don't want to derail the point of this post, but it reminded me of something... I've seen many comparisons of audiobooks and oral storytelling cultures, and tbh, I don't think it's particularly apt. Like, an audiobook was almost certainly originally written down, edited, and was then performed (by a frequently professional actor). Obviously, both are forms of a story that the audience receives by listening, but that's pretty much where the similarities to traditional oral and especially folk-transmitted culture ends. Audiobooks are more comparable to radio dramas or narrative podcasts, imo.

full bush is fine if you’re white and skinny but the moment anyone else has any body hair it’s unhygienic and disgusting. ok

Hey, I love women, I'm a lesbian, Beau and Yasha are my fav couple to exist in fiction, I adore Laudna and Imogen.
I'm ALSO super stoked that Dorian is back and that Orym is getting a cool moment to have some comfort and care, the lad needs it.
We really need to lift each other up. One person getting spotlight is not taking away from anyone else. It'll be okay.
There's a LOT of sexism and violence and hate towards women in "nerd spaces". With this being true, it seems super super unhelpful and in fact, willfully hurtful, to try and twist scenarios into being "misogynistic" when they're not. Call it out when it's really happening and let go of the rest. Just because YOU don't like what character is getting attention it does not mean that that plot happening is a direct attack on YOU or your gender.
Enjoy fiction, stand up for those who can't advocate for themselves and support queer people. Cmon. Celebrate a story about love and friendship and connections. It's a long long ass story, there will be PLENTY of wlw content to come.
SUPPORT each other!! We're all we have.

okay, listen!!! in the grand scheme of things, this is such a non-issue. the show raises way more important questions than this, and i wasn’t even planning on posting this note. it was just a silly little rant in my notes app because my brain latched onto it, so here we are! i wrote this before episode 4 so it’s spoiler free :) (the only things i edited just now are in italics)
also, for context, this is coming from someone who genuinely could not care less about shaving and will never not stand for the fact that body hair is beautiful. if this wasn’t clear from the great bush discourse yet.
Tumblr media
anyway. to the people saying ‘it’s a hallucination’ in response to the (minimal but very important) no armpit hair discourse: first of all, be ready to hear from me again if shauna still doesn’t have armpit hair in other scenes, because by your logic, it should definitely be there then. (yeah…this whole argument was proven wrong since then, so…)
but also!!! also!!! while a part of me wants to say this is kind of irrelevant, i really don’t think it is. name more than three movies and/or tv shows where all of the cast actually have a realistic portrayal of body hair, especially the women/non-men. i’ll wait.
like, sure, coach ben has a full face of hair because he (obviously) can’t be bothered to shave out there/probably didn’t even bring a fuck-ass razor for a weekend trip, but most (not all, but most) of the girls have clean-shaven legs, armpits etc etc (we’ve already seen this outside of hallucinations, so don’t tell me it’s about that again)
and yeah, maybe it’s just about the cast’s personal preference, but if you’re on a show about being stranded in the wilderness for nineteen months, giving up shaving for a couple of weeks before filming to reflect a more realistic portrayal of the female body doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch idk 😭
it just highlights a bigger issue in media, which is basically my whole point here: how women’s bodies are always portrayed in a way that conforms to beauty standards, even in situations where it makes no sense. we see men with stubble, unkempt hair to sell the idea that they’re surviving, but when it comes to women? smooth legs, shaved armpits. you could be watching a post-apocalyptic movie, a historical drama, even something like yellowjackets, and still, the natural way women’s bodies actually look is rarely ever acknowledged.
and i get that, to some extent, actors might not want to change their grooming habits for a role. like, obviously, no one should be forced to do something that makes them uncomfortable! there are actors who put their bodies through extreme changes for roles, whether it’s major weight loss/gain, muscle gain etc. and it’s completely reasonable for someone to set their own boundaries with that. but the thing is…growing body hair out isn’t some huge, irreversible transformation. it’s not a physical strain, it’s not a health risk, it’s literally just skipping a step in your routine. it saves time rather than adding any sort of challenge, so what exactly is speaking against doing it? because if it’s just that we, as a society, still think women with body hair don’t “look good” on screen, then yeah. that’s kind of the whole issue. (chat again: not that deep. I KNOW. this is just my take here)
but at the same time, why is body hair seen as something so unthinkable for women to have on screen in the first place? like, we’ve been conditioned to think it’s “unhygienic” or “unappealing,” when in reality, it’s literally just…hair. men get to be scruffy and unshaven in movies all the time for the sake of realism!!
Tumblr media
— a/n: guys again: it really isn’t that big of a deal, i know, and i was literally just yapping in my notes app, that’s all this is about. because i feel very strongly about the way our bodies tend to be portrayed in media. but after the great bush discourse, i just felt like pointing it out!!

idk it's a little sad for me that so many people have talked themselves out of enjoying the ride with an amazing queer romance onscreen bc they're determined to see as diametrically opposed with a prospective queer romance not onscreen

i keep seeing “it doesn’t matter if this post about anti semitism was made by a zionist, it’s still relevant” and i think this is a really deranged thing to say, but it’s a deranged thing that happens all the time so i guess it makes sense that people keep saying it. like, this was also a discussion when the crypto terf thing started going off, where people would say “it doesn’t matter if the op is a transmisogynist it’s a good post” but the op is specifically including trans women in their argument about male privilege which means their fundamental argument is incorrect and at odds with any and all feminist discussion!!! the same way that like, it doesn’t actually matter whether jackson hinkle is making a good point about palestine or not, he’s a far right anti semitic pos grifter and we should be blocking him any time he tries to engage because his fundamental argument is not “palestinians deserve a right to life, dignity, self determination, return, and safety” his argument is “the jews are controlling the media” a zionist will follow up their post about anti semitism with some shit like “i mean these leftists get mad when you call it the israel hamas WAR instead of a genocide, bc they’re anti semitic” while pictures of mutilated children’s corpses are being blasted all over my twitter feed. yes objectively anti semitism is on the rise, but that doesn’t mean you start platforming genocide deniers, sorry. there are plenty of people who don’t like, straight up refer to palestinians as rats that you can reference when discussing the rise in hate crimes!!

It really is 2003 again Jesus Tapdancing Christ.

Okay here are my thoughts:
Shauna and Van are full bush always
Lottie and Misty are like neatly trimmed. Like they don't fully shave or wax (occasionally they will but that's like maybe three times a year)
Taissa is neatly trimmed always never bald but like not a full bush either. Very middle of the road.
Nat most of the time has a full bush but she'll shave it like once or twice a month because she gets annoyed with it
SPEAK (Y)OUR TRUTH!!

I see the occasional piece of discourse slide past me on this website (but also in other places) that goes something like this:
Every four years the democrats tell us our democracy is in danger and we have to vote for them or else! When will the centrists liberals stop holding us hostage like this! Why don’t they fix it for once and for all?
Here’s the thing: you can’t permanently get rid of fascism. We had a WORLD WAR that killed 75 million people to try to get rid of fascism and it just keeps on popping up again. It’s a weed that will always come back because it grows in the fertile soil of human misery, and until we end human misery for good, our soils will be rich and productive for a long time. Fascism flourishes when people are scared, unhappy, and suffering, because it gives humans easy solutions to complex problems.
Anyway… We! The Royal we! Need to stop thinking of voting as one weird trick to fix things forever and start thinking of it as weeding. Every four years you’re going to have to weed this fucking garden. For the foreseeable future. Now put your gardening gloves on and get to work, otherwise you’re going to end up with a fascist garden growing nothing but the thorn bushes of oppression and subjugation.
