HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PAT CHRISTENSON!

Happy birthday, Pat!

Since Christenson is one of my favorite characters (I love him when I read the book and screamed when I knew he was portrayed by Fassy), I will make a little longer post about him. Alright, here we go: the unofficial artist of Easy Company.

Burton Paul Christenson was born on August 24, 1922 in Oakland, CA. Fewer people called him Burton. He had various nicknames like Pat (a self-given nickname) or Chris. He was an original Toccoa man, a Non-Commissioned Officer serving in Easy Company, 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division as a Technical Sergeant.

At age thirteen, Pat jumped off the roof of his house with a large beach umbrella to see if it would break his fall. He never did it again tho. He was always athletic and physically strong, joining the Airborne was sort of ‘natural’. Pat’s son, Chris Christenson, said that his dad aka Pat Christenson was a very competitive man. Pat became a paratrooper because he wanted to be the best.

Pat was a machine gunner. During the Normandy campaign, he almost shot his assistant gunner, Woodrow Robbins, because Robbins didn't respond to Pat's cricket signal due to losing the clicker part of the cricket. Pat spent the rest of this campaign as a grenadier. In the series, Bill Kiehn was his assistant (that's why Doc Roe gave Kiehn's dog tag to him in The Last Patrol episode). As I've written in this post, Pat was an athletic and artistic young man, carrying a sketch pad to war and playing guitar during service.

The first episode of Band of Brothers 'Currahee', it was shown that Christenson drank the water in his canteen and Sobel found out in the inspection after the march. Pat's family and fellow comrades doubted the accuracy of this scene, or at least it didn't happen to Pat. Probably Christenson was chosen to portray this scene because in Ambrose's book, there's a passage about him recalling, "We were miserable, exhausted, and thought that if we did not get a drink of water we were certain to collapse." Ambrose also added an explanation after this sentence, that at the end of a march, Sobel would check each man's canteen to see that it was still full. Well, this is just my theory, I'll ask the writer when I have the chance. IF I have the chance :D

Pat was promoted to Corporal after the Normandy campaign and he became Bull Randleman's assistant as a squad leader. Webster considered it as a 'snap job' because Randleman was very conscientious. Later, he was promoted to Sergeant and became the 1st squad leader of the 1st platoon.

After the war, Pat returned to the States and later married Mary Jo Bonham in 1947. They had three sons. Pat died on December 30, 1998 due to health problems

Did you know that according to a 1947 study, almost half the men who served in WWII were still under age 26 by the end of the war?

What this is : A (very long) post comparing the ages of the actors in Band of Brothers vs. the IRL figures they are portraying.

Background: Did I need to do this? No. Did anyone ask for this? Also no. Did I do it anyway? Yes.

Disclaimers: This is SUPER approximate for the most part. I based IRL ages off of D-Day unless otherwise noted, and actor ages off of January 1, 2000, the year filming took place (the latter is where the most variation will be because I didn't try to figure out what month filming started). I also didn't fact-check birthdays beyond googling. Most are sourced from the Band of Brothers and Military Wikis on fandom.com, Wikipedia, and IMDb.

Ugh such an underrated character it’s so frustrating.

I feel like you’d see him running in his PT gear and omg you’d be soooo impressed.

lingers around after all the guys are gone, purposefully so he can talk to you.

probs brings up something cheeky like ‘I haven’t seen you around here before?’

I don’t think he’s very cool, he’s so open and honest though, he just admits almost straight away that he’s been admiring you.

doesn’t like competition, and I think he could potentially get jealous easily- so if he see’s somebody flirting with you in the pub he sits sipping on his beer with looks that could kill.

of course he knows somehow this is wrong, it gives him an icky feeling so he never lets on that he feels any form of insecurity. He wants you to think he’s strong and impress you.

Pat’s got an artistic side but he doesn’t tell you this until one day he asks if you can just sit for him and he’ll draw you.

“No. I promise I won’t.” He’s right. If Pat promises something he sure as hell means it also- he’s a man of his word.

so when he shows you this fucking beautiful portrait you’re left quite literally speechless. How can this big, tough man produce something so elegant?!

Worries you don’t like it so lies that he’s gonna run Currahee, stealing the notepad with him and scurrying off.

when you assure him you do like it, in fact you love it, he’s so happy, flirting with you that you’ve got ‘a good face to draw’. It just took a real long time to actually find him after he’d initially scurried away lmfaooo.

but no he takes such good care of you and he’s so protective, if he was jealous his jaw would tense and he’d give the other man the biggest death stare ever.

not that he’s easily intimidated tho- he’s a handsome guy, and very secure with you, I feel like his love language is touch so omggg when you’re together in the pub with the others he loves it when you put a hand on his, or his lap, his fav place is his chest.

he literally gets the shivers when you run your hand down his chest, I think you’d be flirting with him and you’d be holding so much eye contact that he’d just cut off what you were saying with a kiss.

the feelings are still there the whole time, and one day you just like… kiss? And I’m talking out of nowhere, your faces get real close one night after it’s been hectic and you two just kiss.

Expect Floyd to ramp it up again after that. He’s all yours and there’s no denying that, even if you have to hide it due to fraternisation rules if you’re in the army with him.

once you’re together he’s the type to be gazing at you from across the room, probably winks in your direction too.

the two of you literally go at it like bunnies, I feel like you’d need to make up for lost time of being friends for sooo long.

T even when you were friends, there’s a lot of men with not much respect about for women and he hates that. One particular night when you were ‘just friends’ some guy upset you and Floyd wouldn’t have it.

he chewed the guy out and threatened to ge physical, thankfully the guy left. After he’d just be bear hugging you and reassuring you- I think he’d almost let his feelings slip there and then, but I think he’d either get too scared or think it just wasn’t the right time.

included in this compilation under the cut are the registration cards of 13 more easy company veterans featured in band of brothers (2001). all are taken from publicly available draft records held in online databases and collected by me, and contain details like the registrant's serial number, physical attributes, date and place of birth, phone number, residential and mailing addresses, place of employment and nominated next of kin, as well as their handwriting sample and signature. like or reblog if you use or save.

a note about draft registration

during the second world war, the united states selective service system conducted a total of six draft registrations, the records of which are held collectively in two groupings at the national personnel records centre in st. louis, missouri. members of easy company were drafted in all but one of these registrations from october 1940 through to december 1942. the six registrations are as follows:

16 october 1940: males aged 21 to 35 "within the continental united states". winters, nixon, welsh, toye, perconte and liebgott were among those registered on this date.

1 july 1941: males "who had reached 21 since the first registration". lipton and speirs were registered on this date.

16 february 1942: between the ages of 20 and 45 "who had not previously registered". roe, bull, malarkey and luz, among others, were registered on this date.

27 april 1942: between the ages of 46 to 65 "not eligible for military service". no known easy company members were registered on this date.

30 june 1942: between the ages of 18 to 20. talbert, webster, grant, guarnere, babe, shifty, skip and christenson, among others, were registered on this date.

10-31 december 1942: "those who reached the age of 18 after 12 november 1942". penkala, who turned 18 in august 1942 three months before the cutoff, was nonetheless among those registered in this period.

re: the christenson post - i have 3+ family members from around that same time period who for whatever reason just went by names completely unrelated to their legal names. like an uncle bill was actually henry, pete was actually tom, etc. in my family's case i think it just helped to clarify in cases where there were a lot of people with the same name (LOTS of johns, jameses, patricks, and the like) so i wonder if it's something similar with using pat instead of burton?

I’m 5’7, dyed hair that goes from my natural brown to a rusty color, and brown eyes. I play bass guitar as well as acoustic guitar and I sing a tad. I’m a pretty extroverted person, even though I have horrible anxiety (that’s what medication is for though, right?). I often find myself being a little bit sarcastic with people and I argue a lot, so I come off as unintentionally rude. I also love watercolor painting as well as other art mediums in general.

Note: I’ll do in headcanons style this time because I think It’s easier and fun to read. I hope you like the ship, I know he’s a side character but he was an amazing soldier and deserves more attention. I love him sm. HE’S SO CUTE, LOOK AT HIM. 

Okay, look, you guys have a lot in common but also, I could see you being best friends with George Luz. Not many people know but Chris was amazing at drawing (you should check out his drawings on google), singing and playing piano and guitar. He was really athletic and competitive too. 

The first time he saw you he was a little intrigued but then he saw you water coloring in a sketchbook and he was like:

“Yeah, I gotta go talk to her.”

He finally had someone to talk about art and even draw with him. 

Remember that time he roasted O’Keefe? I feel like you both would like to roast people with sarcastic comments. 

It’s more fun when they are dumb and don’t understand sarcasm.

Okay, hang out and draw or paint together? CERTAINLY.

When the pub gets empty you both play for each other.

Or you both play for the company as way to keep their morale up.

He asks you to teach him play bass guitar and he finds you so cool when you’re playing.

Expect many love songs and him looking at you when singing. 

Girl-... the height difference is the cutest. He’s 6’0 btw. 

When he notices you are anxious or sad he will ask if you want to talk but he will instantly hug you, kiss your forehead and let you cry on his chest. 

Maybe even sing for you or grab his guitar and make a stupid song to make you laugh. 

He draws you so much, but doesn't like to show you the drawings.

You’re like his muse. 

You said you argue a lot, I suppose it is more in terms of your personal opinions or ideas? Whatever it is, it doesn't matter. 

When you get in an argument he is the type of person who doesn't raise his voice and likes to talk it out but if the argument escalates he will walk away to be alone. 

After everything cools down he meets you in bed to talk to you after what happen and apologize, if the discussion was about personal opinions he will say how stupid the discussion was and make it up to you.

Imagine whatever you like about those last five words. 

For him, there’s no going to bed angry. Periodt. 

He hypes you up about your art so much.

Or about how pretty you are, he just finds your hair so aesthetic. 

“Your hair reminds me of autumn leaves, It’s just so goddamn beautiful.” 

After that he will wash you with kisses and admire you (which he does often.)

He loves when you hang out with him and his friends at the pub.

He’s not much into PDA but he does show a little affection in public. 

Putting his hand on your waist when he lets you get through the door first, puts his arm around you when you’re sitting by his side. 

Even the way he looks at you when you’re talking and the way he smiles, looks like he’s admiring every single detail of your features. 

You’re just perfect to him, idk how to explain it.
