Purpose.

This weblog, formally titled Burakku Majishan, features not only witty one-liners and personal thoughts, but also in-depth discussions, essays, and explainers of political economy, law, and the natural, social, and technological sciences. The latter posts, the ones that seek to capture a comprehensive view of the subject matter, will be more or less regularly updated.

Stylistically, the titles of weblogs will always assume sentence case, never title case, and end with punctuation.

He stares at the piece of paper in his hand, examining how flimsy it seems to be. This is no stone tablet, in fact, a tiny tear—

“No, don’t do that,” his apprentice warns, placing a hand over his, her eyes full of concern.

He pulls his fingers away from the edges of the card with confusion.

“Look, just trust me, okay? It’s... unpleasant at best to be attached to a damaged card.”

He finds it odd to defer to his student, but not necessarily unpleasant. After all, she is the one who spent time in this realm, and it is clear that she knows how things will work.

He glances down to the card once more and sighs. “Well, I suppose it is more convenient to carry around... the Ultimate in terms of attack and defense... How ridiculous a description, who came up with that?”

His apprentice rolls her eyes. “The creator of the game. Pegasus.”

“The game? This is hardly a game-”

“To them, it is. It won’t be until the Items get involved that it’ll have more importance.”

“But he has one.”

“Hmm?”

“The creator of the game.”

Mana nods. “He has the Eye.”

“Yes... I thought I could sense some form of its magic in this. So he wrote this drivel? And what are these numbers?”

“Hey, it could be worse... Don’t worry about it, that’s for the game. Its like your strength.”

“You cannot measure strength of will.” He finds himself bristling just a little... The numbers really do not seem all that high to him.

“Master, its a game. And they’re good numbers. Don’t worry about it. It’ll be fine and we can do what we have to.”

He frowns, he’s been asking her to stop calling him that since she came to the other realm to meet him. Sometimes she listens, but sometimes she slips.

“... What does your paper say?” He asks as she takes the card from him and gently slots it back into the human’s deck of monster cards waiting to be sorted.

“Does it matter?”

“Well, no... but I am curious to see what was written for you.”

“Its a special effect, to make the game more interesting.”

Now he was more intrigued. “How so?”

“I can power up, or something. It’s not a big deal.”

“Clearly it is, or you might have told me.” He has known her long enough to know when she is trying to avoid answers. Surely she knows that will not work for him.

She sighs. “I get stronger the more copies of your card are in the graveyard.”

He is silent for only a moment. “That is a rather cruel addition... I thought you said it was a children's’ game.”

“... Like I said before,” she answers as softly as she can as they both turn to watch the young boy in the next room trying to put together a shining puzzle. “It can always get worse. Besides, reliving my worst moments for a game? How bad could it be?”
