Fic Recs for Elrond Week 2024

Hello! Here’s a last-minute handful of Elrond-centric fic recs to wrap up Elrond Week 2024. (Time got away from me this week!)

These fics are all rated G or T, and I’ve loosely categorized them into groups so it’s a bit easier to parse through them. I also noted ones I recc’d in my 2023 Fic Recs list, which I posted on my main blog, @awwyeah107. I'm tagging each author in this list once (if they have a Tumblr account), although there may be more than one story from an author in the list.

Also, to clarify, none of these were written *for* Elrond Week—these are all simply fics about our beloved peredhel that I've enjoyed and wanted to share/recommend.

(Note: For anyone who does not ship Russingon—like me—the series does contain it, but it is minor and can be skipped over fairly easily.)

Return to Aman by cycas (bunn on AO3) A series of stories about Elrond's return to Aman at the end of the Third Age. All these assume that Maglor son of Fëanor was one of the other unnamed Elves who accompanied Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo on the ship when they left Middle-earth. Point of view is usually either Maglor or Elrond, but occasionally someone else (Celebrian, Lalwen, Nerdanel...) (Complete series of 15 works, each between 1-5 chapters, all rated G. The Last Homely Hostel by sweetteaanddragons (Drag0nst0rm on AO3) Barin was nearly entirely sure this hostel wasn't supposed to be here. It won't be the last unexpected appearance of the night. (Oneshot, G, 5k words)

we will make this place our home by @leucisticpuffin Elrond and Elros are sent to live with their distant cousins in a house that is crumbling slowly to pieces. They aren't especially happy about this. For Maedhros and Maglor, the twins are a rare chance to start living again. It will take a lot of work to turn a house full of ghosts into anything resembling a home. (70 chapters, in-progress! G, 259.5k words. Only AO3 users can read this fic. Since we're talking about Oni recently I wanna mention something that I find interesting

The Oni that we see in March of the Oni, don't they look... sickly to you?

Baggy skin that is practically hanging off of them, all throughout their bodies. This is strange, isn't it? It's especially interesting considering the other Oni we see, Mystake:

See her? She's perfectly healthy! And we can't say this is age because of the fact that she's probably just as old as the rest of the Oni. She was around all the way back before Ninjago was created and was hired to assassinate the First Spinjitzu Master. Meaning that she was most likely one of the stronger Oni at the time.

This isn't just something Mystake has either, Garmadon also doesn't have this bagginess!

So the question is, what caused these Oni to become so sickly, so unhealthy? They're powerful, able to spread destruction through a giant mist. Isn't that odd though, that they're able to do this? I mean, Garmadon and Mystake don't as far as we've seen.

My theory is because the Oni have embraced destruction fully.

Looking back at what we see of the Oni prior to their introduction in Season 10, we see that they have made multiple things. The temple, the masks, the stronghold in the first realm. Do you see a pattern here?

THEY CREATE!

They make temples, structures, and build civilizations! Sure the purpose is for war but it's still creation! They make things, they do the very opposite of what they apparently embody. They even carve pictures into their walls, making maps and telling stories, they clearly weren't just purely beings of destruction. They had a system of hierarchy based on the Oni masks being worn by Warlords.

The Oni most likely lost the war against the dragons, based on the fact that they had to flee their home realm and that there's not a single sign of one in Season 9. Now what would a war mongering species do in response to defeat?

Simple, become more powerful.

And they did! They can destroy realms now! They have become purely beings of destruction, yet they're sickly, why?

Because they don't have balance.

Their own destruction is most likely hurting them. Oni that create and have it as part of their lives, like Mystake and Garmadon(prior to being resurrected), are healthy. They have some semblance of balance and that keeps their bodies from being overloaded with destruction.

The rest of the Oni though have obsessed themselves with destruction to the point where they're destroying themselves.

I have the exact same headcanon actually! Where Lloyd, whenever he loses his element, is just pure Suffering. Seriously I think he'd die if he was put in vengestone shackles for too long I like to think he has a combination of the other fours' symptoms too just cause his element is also referenced as all of the others combined

man I know a lot of us have individual headcanons for how vengestone affects certain elements right

Jay feeling like his element is built up and trying to burst out, Kai feeling as though the fire inside him has snuffed completely, Cole feeling cut off from the earth itself etc. etc. but I don’t see much about Lloyd

And yeah Lloyd’s true “element” is up for debate but I usually work under the assumption that Lloyd is the element of Life and Energy itself and man

Doesn’t it seem like that element in particular would not do well with vengestone

Don’t you think if someone who’s element is life itself is suddenly, forcibly, unnaturally cut off from said element…

Don’t you think they’d get sick

I mean we saw what happened when Lloyd felt cut off from his power in season 8. He got sick. He was almost dying. He literally needed the other elements that make up his power to lend him some of their own or else he would have died

I just think that’s verrrrrry interesting, don’t you? :)

10 QL people I want carnally aesthetically

Sooooo as your local ace, I couldn't complete the lovely tag from @sunshinesanctuary with carnally, cause....I don't think that way. BUT with a little chit chat in DMs with @luckydragon10 I was able to cobble together a list of aesthetically pleasing people from Queer Love series.

Cool I'm going to start with the two who lured me into Thai BL cause why not.

10. Tan (Max Nattapol) - Manner of Death

What can I say, I like a good cheeky monkey who has no idea what to do with the pretty man that has just kissed him. He has his little shit face on here, and that's about all it takes to lure in my ace heart.

9. Bunn (Tul Pakorn) - Manner of Death

What an orange cat of a man. Like, what were you thinking was going to happen (spoiler he was checking for a gun I think? sus little bean) but that is a horrible way to go about that. Charmed the shit out of me from the get go, he absolutely deserves to be on this list. Also that shirt is doin' werk.

8. Phupha (Earth Pirapat) - A Tale of a Thousand Stars

Right, so, as far as aesthetics go, this man is already pretty, but then they stuck him in a uniform, and I've always been a sucker for a uniform. He gives gremlin vibes this entire show, despite the serious face that is just stuck like that. (I am starting to sense a pattern...).

7. Prapai (Fort Thitipong) - Love in the Air

What does this man do? Seemingly, nothing. He has way too much time on his hands and a clearly overworked secretary, but I will say the lack of brain cells and puppy dog eyes kinda worked for me. (not enough to finish the series, but I was digging him).

6. Jang Jae Young (Park Seo Ham) - Semantic Error

I love how freakishly tall this man is. Once again I have found an absolute terror of a man (this one totally has a golden heart) and latched onto him instantly. The fact that he came with a built in size difference is just the icing on the cake.

5. Choi Yu Na (Song Ji Oh) - Semantic Error

Ummm. Yeah Imma just let that gif speak for itself. Immaculate babe, just keep doing what you're doing.

OKAY from here on it's just KP I don't know what y'all were expecting otherwise.

4. Tay (Us Nititorn) - KinnPorsche the Series

My love affair with Tay is long standing and undying. This is the best I could do to find a silly gif of him. Honestly I think that speaks to why he is so high on the aesthetic list. Poor man lost in a google coin toss to Big 😭

3. Big (Nodt Nutthasid) - KinnPorsche the Series

That right there ladies and gentlemen, is peak bodyguard performance, losing your shit over the new kid. All jokes aside there's something about this man's face that makes me wanna stare at it from like every angle. Give this man another role so I can stare at him more, please.

2. Porsche (Apo Nattawin) - KinnPorsche the Series

Ahhh Apo and his amazing faces. There is a unique ability to demonstrate just how little is going on in a character's head, and Apo has it DOWN. Porsche my darling, aesthetically your a freaking masterpiece, but baby if you think too hard you might hurt yourself. (Yes I am aware the theme is getting worse). THAT BEING SAID. Holy shit when you clean this boy up he is a force to recon with. That green suit??? it haunts me. Aesthetics on point with this brat.

Kinn (Mile Phakphum) - KinnPorsche

Right so this last one was actually hard to pick between Porsche and Kinn, buuuuut if I'm going form a character aesthetic approach I have to give the #1 spot to Kinn. My man slays through the majority of this show with suits on point, and cocky faces galore. I kinda hate him a little bit for how long I had to scroll to find an unflattering gif. EVEN HERE HE LOOKS GOOD he just got his dick sucked too hard in a helicopter to pull off suave. *throws hands up in the air* I just wanna put him in my pocket and take him out and shake him every once and a while.

Where did this incident come from in the plan? The answer is: "All of it".

Gilbert: Hey, you want to help me do something bad?

Silvio: Idiot, don't bullshit.

One evening I visit Silvio in his guest room and am met with a cold welcome. I sit next to him on the couch, where he is enjoying a rosé wine.

Gilbert: As a businessman, you should at least listen to what I have to say.

Silvio: Only if you're dealing with a decent person.

Gilbert: Silvio is also a navigator, so you like to take risks and get high rewards, don't you?

(How could you miss such a lucrative opportunity?)

I put on the table a small box that I had prepared in advance. Silvio puts his glass down with a wary look, opens the box with one hand, and exclaims.

Silvio: You, this is.....

Gilbert: Rare ore... the amount of extraction is small, and its purity is probably the only one of its kind in the world.

Silvio: Idiot! Don't take such a valuable thing out of your pocket so easily!

Gilbert: To me, it's just a stone. But to those who know its value, it is a great treasure.

Gilbert: So...

Silvio: What's the story?

(His gaze changed.)

Chuckling inwardly, I lean back deeply against the sofa.

Gilbert: Do you know that doggy who's always hanging around Miss Bunny?

Silvio: Oh, that damn dog?

Gilbert: Yes. I just need you to separate the doggy from his owner tomorrow.

Silvio: ....... And that's it?

Gilbert: Yes, that's it.

Part 3/2

Tomorrow Miss Bunny is going to a friend's tea party.

(She's so looking forward to it. ..... She doesn't even know she's being taken advantage of).

The only people who approach Miss Bunny already know about the shadow of the Obsidian Prince standing behind her.

The noble girl had already been investigated, and if it came down to black/dirty and white/pure, she was black/dirty.

It seems that the father, not the daughter, had made several attempts to contact Obsidian, and this time may have been part of it.

(At the tea party, she chats up Miss Bunny, take her hostage, and interact with me... This filial piety is like one cage.)

(Well, it looks like I'm about to see something interesting. I don't want to miss it.)

Silvio: That's the amount of money you can ask to kill about 100 important people.

Gilbert: No, murder is a Obsidian specialty. We don't trust it to others.

Gilbert: ...I don't think you should be proud of it.

Silvio: How much money are you willing to spend to harass that woman?

Gilbert: I'm willing to pay as much as I can for Miss Bunny.

Silvio: .....What do you want to do with this woman?

Perhaps it was the price that was too high, but Silvio got suspicious.

Silvio: Everything you do is harassment, isn't it? What do you have against this woman?

Gilbert: It's so cruel to blame me for expressing my affection.

Silvio: Answer me seriously.

Gilbert: I have nothing against her. If I had, Miss Bunny would be dead by now.

Silvio: ....Then what do you really want?

("What" is it so...)

Of course, I have a clear goal, but I'm not going to reveal it with silly candor.

Gilbert: Don't you know my nickname?

Silvio: The Damn Eye Patch, The World Disaster, The Invincible Original Master, The Trampling/Conquering...

Gilbert: Yes, that's right, "The Trampling/Conquering"...

(.... I'll pretend I didn't hear about The Damn Eye Patch.)

Gilbert: Because I have trampled and dominated so many, people have come to call me "The Trampling Beast".

Gilbert: What we do in Rhodolite is no different.

Silvio: .....Even I feel sorry for that woman.

Gilbert: So am I.

Silvio: ......Don't say it to yourself.

I return the smile to Silvio, who is frowning, and get up from the couch.

(Now I'm ready to go.)

(After tomorrow, Miss Bunny will no longer be able to trust anyone.)

Gilbert: ......I'm looking forward to it.

The plan must have worked.

Flashback:

After Miss Bunny had gone to the library for a while, a pale-faced girl came to call me.

She can't seem to hide her guilt because of her character, and she smiles more wryly than the last time we parted.

(If you feel guilty, you didn't have to do it in the first place, right?)

I obediently followed the lie that "MC was calling" me, and was invited into the warehouse.

Earl and some of his mercenaries were waiting for us, taking Miss Bunny hostage.

I laughed again at the look of the place, which looked more like a rude town huddle than a noble mansion.

Gilbert: Oh no. If you're going to negotiate with me, you'll need at least three times as many mercenaries.

The mere hint of lethality made the earl and even the mercenaries shudder.

It may be that they have indeed assembled the city's brutes, rather than mercenaries who know the battlefield.

(It would be nice if they were, but that doesn't make me feel any better...)

With the exception of the Earl and the young lady, I chopped up all the people who picked up swords.

Needless to say, I was outraged by the fact that they couldn't even properly use a hostage, even though there was a defenseless Miss Bunny in the room.

Gilbert: Now I'll just listen to what you have to say before Miss Bunny wakes up. Go ahead?

Eventually, Miss Bunny woke up and realized that her friend had betrayed her, and her face was stained with despair.

The girl, caught up in the atmosphere of murder, decides to abandon Miss Bunny instead of saving her, as she was supposed to.

(Everything was supposed to be fine.)

Flashback ended.

MC: Lady Louise...?

Just as our lips were about to touch...... The door to the living room swung open, revealing a young woman with a sword in her trembling hand.

It seemed as if Miss Bunny, sitting in the lap of the great villain, had been attacked.

Louise: Please let Miss MC go......!

(...I thought she was supposed to be sitting on her backside.)

Gilbert: That's a funny thing to say. You betrayed Ms. Bunny, didn't you?

Gilbert: It's your fault that we're in this situation.

You can play the good person, but that doesn't make the fact that you sold out your friend go away.

I hate people like that so much I want to kill them.

(This is not unusual, for the aristocracy is full of such "narcissistic" people.)

Louise: I know. ......I am a shy person who approached Lady MC at my father's request.

Louise: But I'm such a lousy person... Lady MC says I'm her friend.....

Louise: She told me she was my friend.

(Oh, no, the farce has begun.)

(What should I do?)

I was ready to console Miss Bunny, who had been betrayed by her friend.

However, if that happened, everything would be ruined.

(This young lady was undoubtedly an aristocrat. She was defending herself and selling out her friends).

(And yet, she rolled over... I showed her the blood in front of her and soaked her...)

To think that Miss Bunny's purity touched her heart, "Belle" is even more troublesome than I thought.

(I blur my enemies with malice, but Miss Bunny is just the opposite.)

(If it is not dyeing white to black, but dyeing black back to white is not a good match for me.)

(Maybe... she's my natural enemy...)

The color of both Ms. Bunny and the young lady has returned to normal.

She must really believe that "even if I might be hurt badly, it would be better for me".

(..... I'm a little frustrated.)

The desire to kill fades, and the "anger" recedes like the tide.

Sigh... and admit defeat.

MC: Let's go home, Ms. Bunny. I hope you had a good time at the tea party?

MC: .....Yes.

The look of obvious relief on Miss Bunny's face made my heart flutter in my chest.

(Not awake at all.)

Perhaps Miss Bunny was overexcited, she fell asleep in the carriage, but she showed no signs of waking even after they carried her to her room.

MC: ....Oh.

Gilbert: ...Yes, I knew it...

Judging by the whispers, she seems to be suffering from a nightmare.

(Dreams do not lie, no matter how much you think you are okay.)

There is no way that today's events have not left a scar on Miss Bunny's heart.

Even if friendship returns in the end, the fact that a friend betrayed you never goes away.

Gilbert: But that doesn't stop you from trusting people, does it?

(You're an idiot, you know that?)

Gilbert: You're kind, and I'm sure a lot of people will hurt you in the future.

Gilbert: When you've been betrayed and hurt... so many times, can you make the same choices you do today?

(It's easy to paint white black, but hard to paint black white.)

(How many more times can you endure this?)

For some reason it annoys me.

I'm confused.

MC: Um... It's...

MC: ........

MC: !?

Gilbert: Hmm...

When Miss Bunny woke up, she was probably surprised by the closeness of my face.

She blinks a few times, turns red all over, pulls up the sheets and hides.

Gilbert: Hmm, what did you imagine?

MC: I didn't do anything! Nothing!

(This reaction makes me want to tease her immediately.)

(Poor thing. I wonder if there is anyone who can protect Miss Bunny from me.)

When I lie down next to Miss Bunny and look at her, his face looks like she's afraid...

MC: You ....didn't do anything, did you?

Gilbert: Who knows?

MC: ........What, what did you do?

Gilbert: Hmmm....

(I made a mistake.)

I kiss her lips gently and smile as usual.

(Sorry, I'm in a bad mood right now.)

Miss Bunny, who believed in his betrayed friend to the very end, turned black into white.

The truth is, she must be so wounded that she's having nightmares, but she doesn't show it in any way.

Sonatta! Well, it'd be nice to meet another fallen female celebrity, i'm sure she'd love to have a little chat with her sometime! Her vision of this world is a little worrying though, i mean, this place sure isn't "heaven", but she wouldn't really call it "hell" either...

Quiddo! So her limbs are stretchy, huh... Quiddo would try to see how far she can stretch. Mischiveous. And Quiller... Her awareness for the player is certainly fascinating, not a lot of creatures have that capability... She might be of interest to it.

Shikari... Eh, i don't think she'd care about her, she doesn't like cartoons.

And Sakriss... Funny enough, something similar happens to him. He could leave the graveyard anytime he wants, but yet he feels trapped. Sadly he doesn't get all this movie star thing, and he's extremely introverted, so i'm afraid they'd have nothing to talk about

This is super hard for me. Just gonna list some things from canon for people to consider when thinking about who would win:

Kai: Prime Empire leaping off the cliff onto a robot and riding it, Most experience with a sword & duel-wielding, ToE fight w/ Ash(he does have powers but he shows his cunning in it by baiting Ash), cleverness shown in Scrolls of Forbidden Spinjitzu w/ fire alarm, familiar w/ lack of powers

Nya: Naturally strong w/out powers (Easily suplexes Dogshank, able to carry the weight of all the ninja at once), dance fight in Prime Empire, Chase scene w/ Clouse in ToE, familiar w/ lack of powers, uses a spear (larger range & throwable)

Lloyd: Prime Empire fight w/ Harumi (he does not have powers here), Fight w/ Garmadon at end of Hunted (only gets his powers at the very end from not fighting), kinda familiar w/ lack of powers, best at stealth, also good w/ swords

Jay: Fought Kalmaar while injured w/ a staff, general resilience (Skybound), dance fight in Prime Empire, uses a Kusarigama (can disarm swords and requires A LOT of skill)

Cole: Vangelis fight (does not use powers majority of fight until the finishing blow), Strategically smart, uses a giant hammer that he can throw(terrifying)

I tried to think of notable fight scenes that I feel show off their stengths the most (without powers). Hope this helps!

Kai, Nya, Lloyd, Cole, and Jay fight without any powers. They have to fight to the death. Again, no powers, each with a basic weapon. Who would win? (Not including Zane bc he’s a nindroid, he’d win easily)

Test av KI-basert chat i Digitalarkivet

For et par år siden ble ChatGPT offentlig tilgjengelig, og det vi fikk prøve virket nesten litt… magisk? Plutselig var det mulig å kommunisere med en datamaskin med naturlig språk, og få fornuftige svar, til og med på norsk! Brukergrensesnittet minnet mye om chat-botene vi er vant med fra mange tjenester på nettet, men med KI-genererte svare føltes det nesten som at man kommuniserte med et menneske: Du kunne stille oppfølgingsspørsmål, eller be om enklere forklaringer, eller mer detaljer.

Kanskje en slik type KI-chat kunne være en være en fin måte å utforske og forstå arkivinnhold på, som et alternativ til tradisjonelt søk eller å få hjelp av en saksbehandler hos Arkivverket? Mange kan oppleve at arkivene kan være vanskelig å finne frem i, samtidig som arkivene inneholder mye materiale som er viktig eller interessant for store deler av befolkningen.

Men så var det med fornuftige svar, da. Helt fra starten var det åpenbart at ChatGPT og tilsvarende løsninger kunne komme med svar som var helt feil, med samme skråsikkerhet som riktige svar. Vi sier gjerne at den hallusinerer når den svarer feil. Dette er et stort problem med denne teknologien – du må egentlig dobbeltsjekke alle svar du får – og det sier også litt om måten slike KI-modeller utvikles på.

Bak KI-chatene ligger en stor språkmodell (LLM, eller Large Language Model). Disse lages (eller «trenes») ved å analysere store mengder tekst, i praksis store deler av internett. Disse modellene beregner (eller «predikerer») hva det neste ordet i svaret skal være. Det ødelegger kanskje litt av den magiske følelsen, men ChatGPT og tilsvarende løsninger er i bunn og grunn bare anvendt statistikk. Og hvis du spør om ting som er dårlig representert i treningsdataene så blir det statistisk grunnlag for å predikere ordene dårligere og du kan få oppdiktede svar. Det er også verdt å tenke på at KI-modellene ikke forholder seg til virkeligheten direkte, kun til tekster som beskriver virkeligheten. KI-modellen vet altså ikke selv om det den svarer er galt eller riktig.

Ofte inkluderer treningsdataene svært mye av tilgjengelig informasjon, men likevel vil fakta, meninger, tjenester og produkter som er viktige for f.eks. Digitalarkivet og arkiv-domenet ikke være en del av det modellen «vet». Det kan være fordi det er informasjon som er privat eller skjult, fordi den ikke anses som viktig nok til å inkludere eller fordi den er for ny. Hvis vi brukte f.eks. ChatGPT for å finne informasjon i Digitalarkivet vil den sjelden kunne gi riktige svar, samtidig som at det er en fare for at svarene den gir faktisk høres fornuftige ut.

Tillit til arkivene er svært viktig. Man må kunne stole på at det man finner er riktig, og at man finner det man trenger, og da passer det dårlig med løsninger som kan dikte opp opplysninger. Det er vanskelig å hindre hallusinasjoner i en AI-modell, men «Retrieval Augmented Generation» - eller RAG - er en måte å komme rundt problemet på.

RAG vil helt enkelt si at systemet kan basere svar på andre kilder enn de som modellen er trent på, slik at kunnskapshullene i modellen tettes. Det blir omtrent som å gi KI-modellen jukselapper. Det er fortsatt KI-modellen som skriver svarene, men den har altså tilgang til ekstra informasjon som den kan basere svarene på. RAG skjer i to trinn:

1. Hente informasjon Basert på informasjon i ulike databaser, kunnskapssamlinger, ontologier, dokumenter og bøker så lager man en samling over små kunnskapsbiter i form av "embeddings". Embeddings er et format som gjør at vi maskinelt kan finne likheter i betydning (semantisk) mellom f.eks ulike tekstsnutter. Når vi da får inn et spørsmål fra brukeren og gjør denne om til en embeddings kan vi gjøre et semantisk søk og finne de tekstbitene som er likest i betydning til det brukeren spør om.

2. Generere svar Brukerens spørsmål og de relevante bitene som har blitt funnet sendes som en pakke til en generativ KI-modell, som GPT, Claude, Mistral eller LlaMA, som laget et svar basert pakken den har fått. På denne måte kan vi sikre at KI-en har fått opplysningene den trenger for å gi et godt svar. Noe som er viktig i valg av modell er at den er god til å ta instruksjoner fra oss. I pakken vi sender legger vi nemlig til en hel masse beskjeder til modellen om hva den skal gjøre og ikke gjøre. Her finnes det et stort spenn av forskningsbaserte teknikker for å gi disse beskjedene på best mulig måte.

Denne teknologien har Arkivverket testet ut i en proof of concept (poc). Det er enkelt å sette opp en grunnleggende RAG-løsning, men for å få testet ut om RAG faktisk kan løse våre hypoteser om behov og utfordringer så har vi gått videre og laget en mer avansert og modulær RAG-arkitektur. Her har vi tatt i bruk ulike teknikker og algoritmer basert på forskning og det som rører seg i rag-verdenen på hvert av de ulike stegene i prosessen for å sørge for et mest mulig pålitelig og utfyllende svar til brukeren basert på våre data.

Poc-en består av to løsninger, som til sammen har latt oss teste ut RAG på flere typer innhold:

Den ene løsningen inneholder materiale om arkivkunnskap, som veiledninger og hjelpetekster. Dette kan være svært nyttig for brukere som har dårlig kjennskap til arkivene og som ikke helt vet hvordan de skal komme i gang med å finne informasjon.

Den andre inneholder to vidt forskjellige typer digitalisert arkivmateriale, henholdsvis arkiver fra Alexander Kielland-ulykken og dagbøker fra reindriftsforvaltningen.

En fordel med RAG er at det er relativt enkelt og billig å innarbeide mer informasjon, da dette skjer ved å oppdatere søket. Uten RAG ville vi vært nødt til å trene nye versjoner av selve KI-modellen for å oppdatere den med ny informasjon, noe som er langt mer ressurskrevende.

Det er et viktig poeng at løsning skal kjøre på våre egne systemer, heller enn at vi kobler oss på eksterne tjenester. Det er viktig at vi både har kontroll på teknologien vi bruker og på datagrunnlaget som legges inn i systemet. Det å kunne velge en modell som fungerer godt på norsk er viktig, og vi bør kunne bytte ut AI-modeller hvis det f. eks. dukker opp en ny som fungerer bedre til vårt bruk. Vi bør også ha mulighet til å velge teknologi ut ifra økonomiske faktorer.

Poc-en inkluderer også et chatte-grensesnitt, som du selv kan teste ut ved å klikke på lenkene nederst i artikkelen. I menyen til venstre kan du justere flere aspekter ved hvordan spørsmålene blir behandlet og hva slags svar du får, så her er det bare å leke seg!

Det er to momenter til som er verdt å legge merke til, som begge er viktige for å skape tillit til resultatene:

I tillegg til at løsningen svarer på spørsmål, gir den også en lenke til originalkildene slik at brukeren kan få bekreftet svaret eller bla videre i originalkilden hvis hen ønsker å utforske innholdet mer.

Løsningen forklarer at den ikke kan svare hvis brukeren spør om noe som den ikke har informasjon om, i stedet for å hallusinere frem feil svar.

Poc-en har vist oss at en chatteløsning med RAG i bunnen har mange fordeler:

Brukeren får beskjed hvis systemet ikke vet svaret, heller enn at løsningen dikter opp et svar.

Brukeren kan benytte naturlig språk, og skrivefeil eller dårlige formuleringer blir ofte forstått

Systemet vil forstår betydningen av det brukeren spør om og kan derfor gi svar som kan være nyttige for brukeren selv om det ikke samsvarer i språk. Den kan også gi svar ut fra informasjon som er relatert til brukerens spørsmål i større grad en f.eks et leksikalt søk.

Brukeren kan ha en dialog med systemet, og for eksempel stille oppfølgingsspørsmål eller be om presiseringer.

Brukeren får lenker til originalkildene slik at det lett å verifisere svarene hen får.

Vi ser også noen utfordringer ved en slik løsning:

En slik avansert RAG-arkitektur er avansert og ressurskrevende å lage. Det kan tenkes at det finnes andre løsninger som gir noen av de samme gevinstene.

Svarene man får er basert på arkivmateriale som kan inneholde utrykk og holdninger som er foreldede eller støtene. Slik utrykk og holdninger kan dermed også finne veien inn svarene som chatboten gir. Brukere er nok forberedt på at eldre materiale inneholder språk som vi ikke vil brukt i dag, men det kan virke støtende eller underlig hvis slikt språk benyttes i en nyskrevet tekst. Det finnes teknikker for å minimere dette problemet som vi kan ta i bruk, men man vil neppe klare å eliminere det helt.

Og selv om RAG reduserer faren for oppdiktede svar betraktelig så er det ikke helt en vanntett metode. Den generative modellen som skal formulere svaret kan fortsatt klare å hallusinere innhold som ikke var med i informasjonsbitene som svaret skal baseres på. Vi har et godt grunnlag som kan peke ut noen retninger for videre utforsking, og vi er spente på hva vi kan lære av dere som prøver løsningen. Veien videre har ikke blitt avgjort, men selv om vi har laget en omfattende og grundig poc så er det mye arbeid igjen for å få en ferdig løsning. Hensikten med en poc er å finne ut om man er inne på noe, om konseptet er teknisk mulig å realisere. Det langt unna et ferdig produkt, noe som betyr at det kan forekomme små og store feil. Merk også at datagrunnlaget som benyttes ikke nødvendigvis er oppdatert, og at f. eks. veiledningene man søker i kan inneholde feil.

Et kjent problem er at selv om kildehenvisningen blir riktig, så kan den en sjelden gang f. eks. starte nummereringen på 2 eller hoppe over 3. Årsaken er at det søket er mer optimistisk enn språkmodellen-en og derfor finner flere mulige kilder til svar enn det språkmodellen faktisk finner svar i. Dermed kan listen over kilder ha litt underlig nummerering.

ALRIGHT this is physically painful for me (I hate you so much OP) but let's actually analyze this for a moment:

Kai vs Lloyd

So obviously I need to start off with the obvious which is that we're assuming that neither of them are under the influence of evil staffs or whatever. Just purely Kai vs Lloyd, nothing else. I'm going to be analyzing this in different categories: Physical Prowess, Psychological Warfare, and Willingness Emotionally.

Physical Prowess: Now assumedly Lloyd just automatically wins due to his Green Power but let's take the time to actually think about this.

Kai is a quick thinker and one of the strongest ninjas in combat. We've seen how he can think in moments of stress and come up with clever attacks. He also tends to prove himself in moments where he's backed into a corner. Kai can be surprisingly powerful when he wants to be, always fighting no matter what.

Kai can do the craziest stunts and succeed; jumping on to the stone colossus, leaping off of a cliff and hijacking a flying robot, parkouring his way over volcanic rocks, the entire Kai vs. Ash fight, and probably many more I'm not remembering at the moment. Kai is a master swordsman and a certified badass.

The thing is, so is Lloyd.

Lloyd has jumped down multiple stories, every time managing to make his way out. There's a reason a sword is his primary weapon. Not only that but the fandom tends to forget one thing. When Lloyd isn't holding back, when he puts his all into fighting?

Lloyd is TERRIFYING.

In Prime Empire we see that Lloyd could have easily won the Harumi fight. At half health and with no powers he takes out all of Harumi's. The only reason he didn't is because of emotional attachment. In Crystalized we see that, when his Oni side gets unlocked, Lloyd has no issue taking out both Mr. F and Harumi. There is no struggle, no debate. He defeats them. These all-powerful enemies, that we're supposed to fear, and Lloyd doesn't even struggle and that is terrifying.

If Season 2 Lloyd could win against all four ninja in a sparring match blindfolded then I hold no doubt that he could beat Kai now.

Psychological Warfare: An underrated yet very important part of battle, the winner in this is obviously Kai.

Now you might be surprised by this but hear me out. Lloyd does have his strengths and is a good orator. He is a good leader in the way that he knows how to uplift a team. Lloyd knows how to bring people together to fight. Yet, that's the thing, in a one on one fight what matters most is getting in the other person's head.

Lloyd cannot do this.

It has been proven, time and time again, that Lloyd can't lie. He's gotten better at it, sure, and he can push himself to keep going when he has to, but he can't get in other people's heads. In his natural state, Lloyd is a genuine person. He can't help but be genuine and believe in the best in people, which makes him gullible. Lloyd has a tendency to take people at their word. He has become more skeptical over the years, yes, but in the end he's still the same kid who trusted Pythor, who believed that he was his friend.

Kai though? Kai can and he has.

Kai knows how to put on a persona and charm people. He doesn't get the chance to do it a lot but Kai can lie. He can put on an act as shown in the very season this poll refers to, the Tournament of Elements.

In that season, we see Kai take advantage of the fact that Chen thinks he has won by pretending to be defeated. We see directly that Kai did make Lloyd believe the same, he put on a convincing performance. He doesn't like to do this but the point is that Kai can do it. Kai is able to convince everyone, including his own sister, that he betrayed them.

We don't get to see it often because Kai doesn't like to do it. He, like Lloyd, also is naturally a genuine and honest person. However the point here is who is better at it and there is no debate that Kai is. Kai knows how to play on an enemy's assumptions and is also a skeptic. It is much harder to trick Kai. Kai is wary and Kai is clever.

Kai could manipulate Lloyd if he had to, and he has. Lloyd simply could not.

Willingness Emotionally: This is the hardest to determine. They both care about each other and are both deeply emotionally attached to the other. They're brothers and there's a reason Kai and Lloyd are one of the fandom's favorite duos. Neither could stand to see the other hurt.

Kai and Lloyd both also understand the necessity of winning the war.

Both of them, time and time again, understand when and where sacrifices are necessary. They both have been forced to accept the fact that sometimes, they either need to sacrifice themselves or that...

...well, that war has casualties.

Kai knows the importance of winning the war, we see this through him sacrificing himself. We also see that he knows when it's better to be selfish and sacrifice others. We see him constantly sacrifice himself to let others do the final blow. We also see that he has come to terms with the fact that no matter how painful, how awful it is, close ones may need to be sacrificed for the greater good.

Lloyd also knows this. He has watched his family, time and time again, give up their lives so he can deliver said final blow. He has also sacrificed himself and is fully willing to. He also has the concept of winning the war ingrained into him, ever since he was little.

Both of them have equal chances at winning the war against Cole, Jay, and eventually Chen. Both of them are also incredibly tired of seeing the other hurt, of seeing others sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Neither of them could stand to watch the other be captured and hurt again. They've been on both sides of that coin and both are equally horrible.

So, in Conclusion, in terms of who would win in this battle...

I'd say it's only a matter of who gets the opportunity to sacrifice themselves first. Kai or Lloyd.

My final piece for Multiversity Comics. I got to chat to Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt about the upcoming deluxe omnibus for The Damned, which will collect every story to date.

Okay so... Not entirely sure what this little tidbit will be. Whether as a prologue to the postseason 5 fic that popped into my head or just background for... Whatever I continue from this... Actually no. New idea that just hit as I'm writing this. I've shown how Faybon is with Marinette and Adrien, how he supports LB and Chat the best he can, touched briefly on his interactions with Alya and Nino. I've also hinted at an uneasy alliance with Felix and I may have said a bit about his thoughts on Chloe. Under the cut? How he managed to deal with Bunnyx.

"Stay out of trouble." That's the last thing Bunnyx ever said to him, of course had Faybon known that would be the last time he'd ever see the time traveller? He may have been a bit kinder to her.

As it stood, all he could do was look around at the destruction Strike Back was causing in the city before turning to glare at the bunny peaking out from her burrow. "Would it have worked?" He had asked instead, holding down the anger that threatened to bubble over.

"Yes. But what it changed sent the timeline careening into disaster." Faybon had left it at that, it had been a long time since he cared enough to ask what damage his need to help caused. He just accepted the fact that future Bunnyx knew best and there was no point worrying otherwise, if he could have made a difference then she wouldnt be stopping him.

So Faybon went home, he ignored the giant sentimonsters as best as he could, shut his eyes and ears to the cries of the Miraculous team as they were being overwhelmed, and instead chose to keep the kids from hurting themselves taking too many big risks. Only when the marks on the back of everyones necks were erased by the magical ladybugs did he actually relax and consider that he should probably apologize to Bunnyx when he next saw her... Then came the announcement of the newly named Monarch.

Watching the swarm of butterflies mock the heroes for failing, the symbols of all the Miraculous surrounding the faux head like some kind of bizarre clock, it filled Faybon with equal parts rage and despair. Shards of ice digging into his heart as fire flooded his veins. This was the preferred outcome? This is what Bunnyx couldn't let him change? He couldn't believe it. Something had to have gone wrong.

Over the next few days he managed to piece together exactly what had happened, starting with learning that their classmate Alix was currently going on a vacation through time to keep Fluff away from Monarch. So, yes, this WAS what Bunnyx wanted to happen and now he had absolutely no way of telling her just how pissed he was at her. Well, other than holding onto it for the years to come that is which, while tempting, only opened him up to getting akumatised.

That just left the question of HOW Monarch got the other Miraculous and, while the lack of the peacock during his little monologue gave Faybon an idea, it wasn't until he heard Adrien talking about it to the rest of the class that he figured out just how deep Felix's betrayal went. Handing over the Miraculous was one thing, but under the guise of being Adrien and helping out Ladybug? Well... Faybon was amazed he hadn't been akumatised at all during that week. Most likely because it was when Monarch went silent for whatever reason.

He was tempted to go to London, kick down the door and beat the prick until he was as blue as Duusu's outfits. In his calmer moments he thought about visiting and proposing some kind of alliance, but the same thing stopped him from doing that as what prevented him from threatening grievous bodily harm on Adrien's lookalike. There was no chance he would manage it. Faybon was an average kid and Felix had a Miraculous and some serious martial arts training if his Wikipedia article was to be believed. Felix had outsmarted Ladybug, bargained with Monarch, and got away scot-free. Faybon wouldn't be able to touch him in a million years.

So that left Faybon with no idea on what to do next. Ever since the future Bunnyx had saved him from Egypt, coincidentally enough TimeTagger had sent him just a few years after Bunnyx had been trapped there with a broken watch, he'd more or less relief on her guidance. If he ever got the idea for some big morale boosting party, or ideas for the heroes to help with patrols and catching HawkMoth, she'd show up and either tell him to stop it or ask for popcorn so she could enjoy it. Maybe it was because he didn't really have a great relationship with present Alix, or because she was the one who brought him to the orphanage to begin with, but he did feel a connection with her at times. She was like the big sister he hadn't seen in years but still treated him like a child. Now that she was gone? He had lost the only person who knew what was going on just as much as he did.

Sure she preached secret identities as much as Ladybug did, and was quick to point out just how many times his actions forced her to actually do overtime trying to fix things. But she still let him into the burrow, sat him in a chair, and showed him some of the crazy scenarios that Marinette and Adrien made up to try and keep their secret. It took hours before he could stop laughing over how embarrassed Ladybug was catching Adrien in the shower. Sure it felt a bit surreal watching his friends like some kind of soap opera, but it was nice not having to be serious for once.

So, with all those thoughts weighing on his mind.
