But what people often overlooked was that it wasn’t power or status that made someone formidable. You’d caught Chuuya’s eye almost immediately, a whirlwind of determination and fearlessness wrapped in a kind smile. He’d been head over heels before he even knew it, captivated by the way you could walk into any room, look anyone—no matter how dangerous—straight in the eye, and hold your ground. It was refreshing, exhilarating even, to see someone who didn’t just survive in a world of chaos but thrived on it without ever losing themselves.

The first time Chuuya realized just how serious you were about not taking anyone’s shit was when you knocked out Dazai. The lanky bastard had been mouthing off, making one of his usual snide remarks about Chuuya’s height and appearance, calling him a "short, ugly slug" with that annoying smirk on his face. Chuuya had been ready to retaliate, but before he could even move, you were in front of him, eyes blazing.

“Say that again,” you’d said, voice calm but laced with an undeniable threat. Dazai, ever the troublemaker, had repeated his insult, barely getting the words out before you’d sent your fist crashing into his face, dropping him to the ground.

Chuuya had blinked, shocked but undeniably impressed. “Y/N—”

“He deserved it,” you’d cut him off, wiping your hand on your pants with a satisfied grin. “No one disrespects you while I’m around.”

And that was that. Dazai had stayed on the ground, nursing a bruised jaw, while you stood there as if nothing had happened. Chuuya couldn’t help but laugh, a deep, appreciative sound that made your grin widen.

But it wasn’t just the small skirmishes where you showed your strength. You had no fear of the Mafia’s hierarchy, no qualms about confronting the most powerful figures if it meant protecting what mattered to you.

It had been one of those rare days when Chuuya had actually been granted time off—time off that Mori had later revoked, summoning Chuuya for an "urgent" mission. Chuuya had been ready to grit his teeth and go, fully aware that refusing an order from Mori wasn’t an option. But then you stepped in.

You had marched straight into Mori’s office, completely ignoring the bewildered stares of the subordinates, and leveled a steely gaze at the Mafia boss himself. Mori had looked mildly amused, raising an eyebrow as you spoke.

“If you don’t respect your employee rights, I’ll make sure that you will respect them one way or another.”

Chuuya had frozen in the doorway, eyes wide as he watched you stand toe-to-toe with the most dangerous man in the Port Mafia. Mori’s amusement had deepened, but there was a sharp edge to it. “Do you have any idea who you’re speaking to?” he had asked, voice deceptively gentle.

“I do,” you’d replied without missing a beat. “And I don’t care. I know how to handle people like you.”

The air had crackled with tension, subordinates shifting uneasily, ready to react if Mori so much as twitched. But you hadn’t flinched. Instead, you’d continued, voice calm and steady. “The last assassins sent to deal with me are six feet under, so I strongly advise you to rethink your response, Mori-san.”

Mori had studied you for a long moment, the smile never leaving his face but something darker lurking beneath it. And then Elise, perched on his desk with a curious tilt to her head, had spoken up. “I like them, Mori. Can we keep them?”

It had been a surreal moment, one that could have easily ended in disaster. But Mori had merely laughed, a soft, chilling sound. “Very well. Chuuya, you’re free to go. I wouldn’t want to upset our dear Y/N, after all.”

You’d turned on your heel, brushing past the stunned subordinates as if nothing had happened, leaving Mori and Elise behind. Chuuya had followed, heart pounding in his chest, a mix of awe and disbelief swirling within him.

“Y/N,” he’d said once you were safely out of earshot, “you do realize who that was, right?”

“Of course,” you’d replied, flashing him a smile that was equal parts sweet and dangerous. “But I wasn’t about to let him push you around. You deserve better.”

Chuuya had stared at you, utterly captivated. No one—absolutely no one—had ever stood up for him like that, especially not against Mori. He’d known you were special from the moment he met you, but this? This was something else entirely.

From that day on, Chuuya knew he’d found someone who was more than just a partner. You were a force to be reckoned with, a storm in your own right, and you had no intention of being anything less. You weren’t afraid to set boundaries, to demand respect, and to fight for what you believed in. And you did it all with a calm, collected demeanor that only made you more formidable.

Chuuya loved you for it, admired you for it, and he knew there was no one else in the world who could ever take your place in his heart. You were his equal, his anchor, and the one person who could stand by his side without ever being overshadowed.

You sighed, and went to buy new ingredients, you weren't too scared, this wasn't your first time at the armed detective agency, yet you really didn't know anyone much there. And you felt still a little bit intimidated by these random strangers you've heard so many rumors of, despite the fact they looked more silly than anything, but you were mostly worried for your house and your neighborhood that's probably going Kaboom.

What happened for you to arrive at the armed detective agency you may ask?

It was a few hours ago, you were cooking yourself something in your kitchen, until you heard a stranger's voice "—It smells good in here

— I must be hearing things. you told yourself out loud

—No, I'm not a thing I'm a human. the voice concluded, right behind you, you turned around.

—WHA-

—Shhh it's okay it's okay, say, can i taste the food?

—Um… sure. you handed over a piece of the finished product, about to call the police

—Na don't bother your phone is right here in my hands

—How did you-

—I have my ways. he says while eating your food as a whole, not very polite for a stranger who just intruded your kitchen, you looked at him, startled and a bit speechless, suddenly, he smiled This is so good ! Hey stranger can you cook me more ? I'll pay you !

—Well-

—Also we got sent a threat concerning this neighborhood so we were going to evacuate you and the neighbors so you've gotta come either way

—You could have just knocked i don't-

—It smelled way too good in there !"

And no matter how much you protested, you ended up at the armed detective agency, in a kitchen, cooking for this child-like adult, that was fine, everything was normal, daily matters.

Well, you finally arrived back to the agency, wondering if your neighborhood was okay still, and you cooked a little bit more and then stopped ignoring the man's pouts, but while he was pouting uncontrollably, you heard a voice, a familiar woman voice.

"Ranpo, who are you holding hostage ? "

you turned around, and you saw her, it took you a few seconds to recognize her, but eventually you did, It was doctor Yosano.

You met her one day when you were accidentally involved in a mission when you were minding your own business, trying to get to your destination ( and struggling to get to it).

And because of a lot of stuff happening as a complete coincidence, she had to make sure you were safe and had to bring you to a safe place and heal you, and this was the first time you entered the armed detective agency building.

Man, if only I could meet Dazai by just minding my own business- I MEAN UHM NEVERMIND CARRY ON WITH THE WRITING CARRY ON ATARAXIA NEVERMMIND THAT

After finally getting your money, you left the building, but you were kind of intrigued of what person Yosano was like and the man that made you cook for him said you could come back anytime to cook if you wanted to, originally, you wouldn't go back, but you decided to anyways, because you were intrigued by a lot of things concerning this armed detective agency.

Okay. Time skip. You guys ended up being veryyyy close.

Yosano is a really caring partner and she makes sure that you're not hurt without traumatizing you or atleast let's imagine that unless you're into that type of stuff.

Obviously, you're not a cooking-paid slave to Ranpo anymore and you guys ended up being good friends. You and Yosano hang out together a lot and Ranpo joins in sometimes when he's bored, you guys go to the beach sometimes, and you have a lot of fun.

Yosano gets drunk sometimes, and when you're there and she's drunk, she tries to get you to do a karaoke with her. Goodluck. Have fun imagining that.

Yosano can be pretty chill, and she gives you space if you need, she'll respect your boundaries. You do cook sometimes for the armed detective agency as a thank, but not every time, but when you do, on the rare times Kunikida isn't busy or bothered by Dazai, he helps you out with the cooking. (Ranpo steals some food sometimes)

So you ended up visiting the armed detective agency quite often, because they liked your cooking, and because you liked Yosano. You get along well with the members even though Dazai can be a bit of a bully.

You and Yosano have a lot of fun together, and you're a very sweet pair. You both are very caring and look after each other.

Yosano likes to threaten the members to offer them "treatments" if they're being annoying to you or embarrassing you.

Socializing is extremely difficult, well no worry, Yosano can do the talking ! Yay !

Eventually, you didn't need an excuse to see Yosano anymore and you can see her outside of the armed detective agency, so you didn't have to cook something every single time you wanted to see her, hooray !

You guys take some time to get closer, but eventually the relationship evolves and you guys are happy than ever together.

You had awoken in quite a predicament. Swaddled in a clump of blankets with a cool washcloth pressed to your forehead, bubbling cups of tea and soup spinning steam into the air.

However, you partially clued in on the situation when you felt your head pounding. Your throat felt raw as a cough encroached on your breath, your skin was inflamed as sweat gathered by your temples, and your muscles ached as you attempted to stretch your arms. You were sick.

The smirking man before you was how you clued into the next part of your predicament.

“Yes, my love?”

You had no idea how long you had been swaddled up on the living room couch, but knowing Dazai, he had clued in on your sickness hours before you did. A perked brow was your sole response to him.

“Isn’t it obvious? You’re sick.” He snuggled into your side, a lopsided grin on his face as he pressed kiss after kiss onto your skin with a coo. “My poor sweet baby.”

“You seem a bit too enthused about this entire thing.”

“Me?” he gasped. “I can’t believe you would accuse me of such a thing!”

He quieted his voice as you winced. “But who wouldn’t be?” he teased, sweet nothing whispered into your ears as he ran his nimble fingers through your hair, massaging them into your temples. “I have an excuse to miss work and spoil my sweet belladonna. Sign me up.”

“Did you somehow get me sick?” you deadpanned.

“No, I wouldn’t,” he whined, digging further into the blankets until he was snuggled up with you, bracing your body against his chest as he lazily burrowed into your neck.

“Mhm,” you hummed, pressing a kiss to his hands. “Watch out. You could get sick.”

“You’re saying that,” he smirked. “But you’re doing nothing to get away.”

“I’m sick, and you’re warm. Sue me.” You leaned into him as you toyed with his bandaged fingers.

He trailed kisses across your neck, his cool skin drawing a soft groan from your lips. “And that means I’ll have extra time to spend with my baby because she’s so sweet, and I know she’ll take of me.”

“Mm, I’ll consider it,” you mumbled, eyes heavy.

He gasped, much to your tired amusement, as tiny giggles escaped your lips between a cough. His arms were hot as they squeezed around your waist, and before long, you found yourself nuzzled into his chest on the cusp of sleep. His fingers traced your features as your eyes fluttered closed, a kiss pressed against your forehead.

“Sweet dreams, my love.”
