Something a little different today!! This scene is from The Road Not Taken by TopHat69, an ADA!skk AU. This is adapted directly from chapter 3, although I've cut down some things for time (and my sanity)

Necessary context: on their first day at the ADA, Dazai and Chuuya are split between Kunikida and Ranpo. Chuuya accompanies Ranpo to Kyushu, and Ranpo says some things that imply he knows a bit too much about Chuuya's past, which should have been erased along Dazai's. Chuuya, on edge, decides to confront Ranpo that evening in their Kyushu hotel room.

If you noticed, that Chuuya design is the one I posted a little while ago! It was made specifically for this comic because I needed to share this concept so bad. Ranpo deducing Chuuya's entire story from having known Murase, a Yokohama detective who was very involved with Chuuya's "early" life, was so simply clever it blew my mind. And now you can appreciate it too!!!

Dazai canonically rambling about his loved ones at every possible opportunity is so dear to me.

Mori knew a lot of the things he did about Oda because Dazai told him. Akutagawa also knew about Oda and how important he is to Dazai because of Dazai's ramblings. Random, unnamed PM members know about Oda being very dear to Dazai, because Dazai praises him and talks about how great he is.

Chuuya knew straight away that Dazai had been speaking about him to the ADA. It wasn't something he expressed feeling betrayed or suprised about. It was just an immediate understanding that of all the ways they could probably have known about him and his ability despite it being confidential information in the PM, Dazai's ramblings were most likely the reason.

The way that Dazai speaks about Ranpo to quite literally anyone who will listen. To Fydor, to random cops, to Atsushi.

Dazai canonically brags about the people he cares about in an 'omg omg omg my person my people I love them look how amazing they are' way.

friendly reminder dazai had a genuinely hard time telling chuuya about his humanity. friendly reminder akutagawa kept his promise to not kill even though killing was his first instinct even after death. friendly reminder poe was the only detective that ever made ranpo feel something. friendly reminder fyodor was the only one who ever truly understood nikolai. friendly reminder tecchou placed jouno over the only thing hes ever believed in. friendly reminder rimbaud changed verlaines entire veiw on humanity and gave him faith in the human race. friendly reminder albatross didnt care if he got hurt or killed if it meant he saved doc. friendly reminder fukuzawa was the only one who understood fukuchi and his motives and couldnt kill him even if it meant saving the world. friendly reminder kunikida calls dazai every morning to make sure hes okay. friendly reminder ango genuinely felt so guilty about odas death he betrayed the government. friendly reminder-
