here's something fun that came out of the Kendrick/Drake beef that more casual listeners of rap might have missed:

YG, a west coast artist that Drake mentioned in a song as an example of someone who's more "real" than Kendrick, came back later the same month he was shouted out with a response called "Weird", where he makes fun of Drake in the most "nana nana boo-boo" schoolground tone i've ever heard in a serious rap song. it's hilarious, and one i've been listening to on repeat recently.

ok, things are starting to make sense.

and it all comes down to Yami.

Asta isn't really one to question the 'hows' or 'whys' of a situation. He tends to just take things as they come.

We in the audience, on the other hand, often require more logic and cohesion.

And so, when Asta got yanked from certain death into the land of the sun, with a powerful shogun throwing tons of resources at him and seeming nothing but helpful... I got super suspicious.

Even if he has powers of clairvoyance, why would a man with an entire country to rule spend so much time watching Asta, and also have a ready-to-cast spell that would teleporrt him out of danger at the drop of a hat?

Could it be because he knew Yami, and wanted to keep an eye on his old childhood friend?

That seemed less than likely, with Yami being characterized as a criminal who fled to avoid persecution.

But, as it turns out, Yami was innocent, and probably left his homeland to protect Ichika.

And Ryu knew the whole time.

If Yami had murdered his family for a good reason, then I could see Ryu wishing him the best and letting him be, maybe checking up on him every once in awhile for nostalgia's sake.

But as a ruler who values power and chivalry, to know that one of his innocent countrymen is living in self-imposed exile, never able to return home... well, I'd bet that as soon as Ryu got his all-seeing-eye, he made it a habit to check on Yami regularly.

Through that, he would have gotten to know the politics of the clover kingdom, as well as seeing Yami's Black Bulll Squad, including Asta.

And the spell that brought Asta to the land of the sun? I'll bet Ryu has had his people working on that ever since Yami got captured by the Zogratis siblings.

At this point I'm still suspicious.

But now what I am suspecting is that Shogun Ryu is a good person.
