"Burjorji Ashburner was a successful Bombay merchant, a Freemason, and a member of the Bombay Asiatic Society. He was also a member of the Committee of Management for one of the most important Zoroastrian libraries in Bombay, the Mulla Firuz Library and made a special point of having copies made of some of the rarer items. In April 1864 Burjurji wrote offering some 70 to 80 volumes as a gift to the Royal Society, London, promising to add additional ones:

In the course of antiquarian researches...with special reference to the Parsee religion, I have had the good fortune to obtain some valuable ancient manuscripts in Zend, Pehlui, and Persian. I do not wish to keep to myself what may be useful in the literary world. [1]

His collection consisted of standard Arabic and Persian works in addition to nineteen specifically Zoroastrian manuscripts in Persian, Avestan and Pahlavi. A number of Bujorji’s manuscripts came originally from Iran. The oldest is an illustrated copy of the Videvdad sādah which was copied in Yazd, Iran, in 1647. Whereas Zoroastrian manuscripts are generally unillustrated except for small devices such as verse dividers and occasional diagrams, this one, exceptionally, contains seven coloured drawings of trees, used as chapter headings not unlike Islamic manuscripts of the same period.

The beginning of chapter 19 of the Videvdad sadah in which Zoroaster repels an attempt on his life by the demon Buiti, sent by the evil spirit Angra Mainyu. Note the elongated calligraphic script which is typical of the older manuscripts from Iran."

Mokyklos laikų draugė atsiunčia nuotrauką su pakeltos raudono vyno taurės ir fone besikūrenančio židinio vaizdu. Ir dar parašo: ,,Į sveikatą. Atidarom židinio sezoną''. Ir, žinoma, numeta šypsenėlę.

Ugnies kūrenimo sezoną aš, deja, jau uždariau, bet raudono gėrimo (ir ne bet kokio, o su jame teliūškuojančiu beveik raudonu maistu!) turiu - nusiunčiu jai rausvai dažyto 2 litrų stiklainio foto: ,,Į mūsų abiejų sveikatą!''.

Jei mano namelyje nebūtų taip šalta, kaip ir lauke, vėl grįžčiau į jį ir gyvenčiau ramų, kaimo jaukumu ir atsiskyrėliškumu alsuojantį gyvenimą. Vandenį semčiau iš šulinio ir, žinoma, iki mėlynumo nušąlusiomis rankomis bandyčiau patvarkyti kurį nors gėlyno šoną. Ir kaip kokia slieko beieškanti višta tikrai pasikapstyčiau žemėje - vasaros pabaigoje iš plytgalių ir susitįstų akmenų pradėtas daryti takelis taip ir liko pusinis - nueinu juo iki nurudusio, žiedų šluotas iškėlusio miskanto kero, o paskui, norint pasiekti vieną ar kitą augalą, tenka pėdinti žeme. Gerai ir ta žemė, bet kad akį kaskart užgauna darytas, bet taip ir nebaigtas darbas. Tiesą sakant, net labai norėdama negaliu dėl to nebaigtumo ant savęs smarkiai pykti - tada, tuo metu, reikėjo daržu ir gėlynais, šiltnamiu, o ir derliumi rūpintis, tai takeliui, lyg ir mažmožiui, laiko neliko.

Kuisdamasi lauke kas keliolika minučių varstyčiau namų duris dėl krosnyje spirgančios ugnies. Ji mėgsta, kai ja rūpiniesi - dega tada ryškiai, smagiai, spragsinčiai. Būtinai į arbatinį šliūkštelčiau vandens ir paskui, pasidariusi mažą pertraukėlę, gurkšnočiau nuleipusių, bet po langais vis dar žaliuojančių aromatingųjų šalavijų lapų arbatą.

O temstant pareičiau į jau šiek tiek apšilusius namus. Ugnį, kad galėčiau miegoti ne po trim antklodėm, kurstyčiau beveik iki pat vidurnakčio. Ir būtinai sukiočiausi virtuvėje - gal mėsos luitui leisčiau burbuliuoti arba kampe tebestovinčią pintinę obuolių iškratyčiau, cinamonu pakvipinčiau ir mediniu šaukštu maišydama, gardžios obuolienės privirčiau. Ach, jaukumas neišpasakytas, kurio nė už ką negausi ten, kur krosnies nėr.

Bet tai tik svajoklės mintys - į savo vasaros namus, mandagiai jiems leisdama nuo manęs pailsėti, nukanku retkarčiais ir tik trumpam. Pasilabinu, pasisukioju ir vėl lekiu atgal - miesto namų virtuvė visada šilta, kur kas didesnė ir tikrai patogesnė. Plius, čia iš čiaupo bėga vanduo - komfortas neišpasakytas, kurį supranti ir įvertini tik gavęs paragauti kitokio buvimo ir kitokios buities.

O toje, nei krosnies, nei židinio neturinčioje miesto virtuvėje vis dar karaliauja rudeninės sodo gėrybės - daržovių likę ne tiek ir daug, bet ir tas, matydama, kad niekaip neįveiksim šviežių, vis dar sugalvoju kur nors padėti. Nors ką čia galvoti - reikia raugti ir tiek.

Į 2 litrų stiklainį dėjau tai, kas pasitaikė po ranka arba nebetilpo į šaldytuvo daržovių skyrių. Gaminimo procesas, patys pamatysit, paprastas ir neįmantrus, bet rezultatas tikrai džiuginantis. Tiesa, jo reiks šiek tiek palaukti - geriems dalykams atsirasti kartais prireikia laiko.

Rauginamos daržovės geriausiai žiūrisi pirmą ir iš dalies antrą dieną - paskui skystis drumščiasi, turinys, bakterijoms veikiant, blausiasi. Kita vertus, procesui įsismarkavus randasi burbuliukų, o raudonai-baltai dryžuoti burokėliai ryžtasi paleisti savo kerus ir viską nudažo švelniai rausva spalva, kuri dar po dienos-kitos virsta į jau beveik visai raudoną - žiūrėk, akių neatitraukdamas, ir mėgaukis!

Reikės:

-įvairių daržovių (naudojau žedinius kopūstus, oranžines ir violetines morkas, raudonai-baltai dryžuotus burokėlius, daikonus, įmečiau kelis neprinokusius, t. y., žalius, pomidoriukus);

-3-4 česnako skiltelių;

-juodųjų, kvapniųjų pipirų grūdelių;

-lauro lapų;

-3 a. š. garstyčių grūdelių;

-1 a. š. maltų garstyčių grūdelių;

-6 gvazdikėlių;

-1 a. š. kalendros grūdelių;

-1 l vandens;

1 v. š. (su kaupu) akmens druskos.

Gaminimas:

Paprastesnio gaminimo nebūna - daržoves supjaustyti pageidaujamo dydžio gabaliukais. Būtų idealu, jei jų dydis būtų panašus. Tiesa, tų kelių vyšninių pomidoriukų peiliu neliečiau.

Į pasirinktos talpos stiklainį dėti daržoves ir prieskonius. Galima tai daryti bet kaip, bet, žinoma, siekiant originalumo, galima dėti ir sluoksniais.

Kambario temperatūros vandenyje ištirpinti druską, gautu sūrymu užpilti daržoves. Pasistenkite, kad jos būtų panirusios, antraip ims pelyti. Jei neišeina susitvarkyti, ant viršaus dėti mažą lėkštutę, o ant jos pastatyti svarmenį (puikiai tiks vandeniu pripildytas stiklainiukas ar puodelis). Tiesa, kai jau supilu vandenį, užberiu šaukštelį maltų garstyčių, kurios garantuos, kad ko jau ko, bet pelėsio tikrai nebus.

Stiklainį pridengti audiniu. Jei jokių svarmenų neprireikė, galima uždėti dangtelį (aš jo neužsuku).

Ragauti galima pradėti po kokių 5-7 dienų (rūgimo greitis priklausys nuo patalpos temperatūros) - skonis jau bus išsiskleidęs, tikras ir stiprus.

Sandariai uždengtą stiklainį reikėtų laikyti šaldytuve arba rūsyje.

Prie ko ir su kuo valgyti raugintas daržoves, teks spręsti kiekvienam asmeniškai, bet prasitarsiu, kad šitas gėris idealiai tiks prie bulvių ar mėsos patiekalų. Nors ką ten patiekalų...šalia įraudusio žiedinio kopūsto paguldyk virtą bulvę ar mėsos gabalaitį ir suprasi, kad pasaulis tikrai yra tobulas.

feelling as if I could leave a mark on anything I touched slowly walking through each old classroom the boards still filled with the work they where teaching in there classes old test still sitting on the old cluttered desk the chairs are all in the corner of the room stepping back into the hall the walls still have photos of the graduating classes it had before it fell from the community the lockers a rusty red from the years they sat and corroded the old walls flaking from the years without mantinence the floors where going out in some spots the entire building was decrepid the uneasy feeling you would get as you walk into the auditorium the windows are all blown out the chairs burned and ruined a once buitiful room with a stage deep red velvet seats and red paved walkways now sits a crusty grey and black the stage is filled with rubble from the collapsing celing that’s when you heard it the footsteps from above not knowing what it was I went to investigate ;climbing the stage hand ladder led to a staircase I figured this would lead to the spotlight room as I climed I could hear a voice getting louder and louder as I reaced the door at the top of the staircase i grab the knob but it creeks open the opposite way and a burly 6 foot man is standing there the shadow perfectly hiding any descriptive features I turn and run back twords the ladder and hear the massive footsteps right behind me I turn and run down the hall out of the auditorium thinking I lost this man I return to the group I had came with and told them the situation we thought we should leave right then but we don’t we split up half going to get thde car readty and the other finishing the exploration I decided to stay we headed twords the roof but as we got to the second floor I hear the footsteps again
