Do you guys ever think about how the “Buffbo” phenomenon as a character design is based in the idea that Tubbo was so traumatised by his past experiences (and feelings of inadequacy and powerlessness) that he literally built armour out of his own body is a vain attempt to keep his tiny family safe — as well as to give himself at the very least the illusion of control — and that even when all his focus was concentrated on this one specific goal he still ultimately failed.

i must say, i quite enjoy Tubbo with weight gain. still gotta figure out smth for Ranboo but my main headcanon, at least for Tubbo:

after moving to Snowchester, Tubbo needed to keep warm. it would be quite inconvenient to have to wear fifty coats at all times to keep warm, so he found a better idea: gain weight. with the ability to actually rest and eat and having enough to eat, plus the concern of staying warm, i can imagine Tubbo makes sure to eat enough. and within time, he gains weight. it helps keep him insulated and warm on freezing nights and cold days. plus its more for Michael and Ranboo to cuddle, and who wouldn't want a warm, soft husband/father? also, it means he doesnt have to wear as many layers. one heavy coat with a sweater underneath, warm pants, boots with fur inside and fuzzy socks [for the hooves], and grown out hair to warm his neck and cheeks. fabulous.

love chubby and fat Tubbo so much. despise skinny. muscle mass could also work for this, but ehm.. not much of a fan of Buffbo. im sorry, something just keeps me from liking it.

i'll admit i found the comparisons to that one benson emote a little funny but overall yeah, buffbo has always been a little cringe.

EXCELLENT! let me run with this because I definitely have headcanons

Techno was built to be a tank. Almost all piglins are; they’re big and strong and have tough skin and instinctually do the boar/Hoglin charge thing

except Techno didn’t grow up like a piglin. Wherever you wanna headcanon that he came from (I personally go with the Pit/coliseum/arena like ThaAngelIncarnate had in their webtoon), he was only a child, forced to learn how to survive without the rest of the hoard there to teach and protect him properly. So, as scared little kids do, they run and hide and dodge and Techno got really good at that until he started learning how to properly fight. Hence, why he’s so overpowered, he’s not just strong and brute forcing his way through battles—as we know and see, he’s also insanely smart/plans and simply doesn’t get hit often

HOWEVER I think he’s really bad at sneaking up on people.

Tubbo on the other hand, I don’t think is actually a very good fighter. That’s just a vibe. He definitely learned to be quiet and sneaky, especially during the Schlatt administration, but he’s not as good when he gets into an actual confrontation. That said, he’s strong. Similar to piglins and brute force, as a goat Tubbo has a lot of endurance and strength, but he actually has to build it up. He’s used to not being strong enough, and I think he saw himself as weaker than others often which is why in snowchester we have Buffbo supremacy.

He still doesn’t like to fight. Tubbo’s fighting style I think is to run away until he can’t or until he sees an opening, then hit as hard as he can and try to incapacitate. He has a similar charge instinct to piglins. Tubbo won’t lose his footing ever and he’s surprisingly nimble/has great footwork, even though he’s not particularly good at dodging

I absolutely agree that Tommy is great at dodging. If he wasn’t he definitely wouldn’t still be around. I also think he’s surprisingly slippery for such a tall guy. I headcanon that he gets really quiet when he’s focused. That could completely throw off any opponent when fighting him, cuz even though he’s right in front of their face, it’s Tommy being quiet. The problem is, he never got any proper training. He was supposed too, he maybe got a little from Phil or somebody, so again, he can survive, but for all his spirit, Tommy isn’t a good fighter. Lastly, After everything with Dream, Tommy’s dodge reactions would be awful. Dream would have trained him out of it with more torture for trying to get away.

What do you think a bird’s fight or flight instinct is? Phil, as an avian, naturally avoids conflict, and when he gets panicked he bolts into the air (in combat scenarios). Phil has a fighter’s personality though; he’ll stand up for himself and definitely for others and he doesn’t back down from a challenge (if it matters), so through trial by fire (not as intense as Techno’s) he learned and scraped by until he had enough experience to think and be aware of how he was fighting. He’s unpredictable because he was never taught any specific style. He’s learned how to use his wings to distract and attack and escape if necessary. His skill is very evenly spread out across attack, defense and escape. After so much experience and so many years learning and growing wise, Phil learned how to analyze his opponents, their fighting styles and see where they left themselves open mid fight and goes for it. He strikes quick and doesn’t linger (avians are a little fragile, not very strong, plus it’s just the way they act)

Wilbur is not a physical fighter. We know this. He has no issue with stabbing or hurting people, but he’s not a physical person. He doesn’t think he’s any good at fighting (though he’s probably better than he believes), he’s never been interested in it and it scares him. Because of that, when Wilbur gets in a physical altercation it’s desperate and he’ll do whatever he can to win. Scratching, hair pulling, biting if he’s freaked enough. He uses a lot of “dishonorable” tactics (but when it’s life or death, does honor even matter?). It hardly occurs to him that he can dodge or move around when he fights, so he gets hit a lot. To his credit though, he gets plenty of energy from adrenaline, so he won’t wear out too easily. You know that thing about bombers being cowards(cautious) who like to attack from afar? Yeah, that’s Wilbur (less so with Tubbo but him as well).

I wasn’t sure at first what Badboyhalo would be like to fight, but now I’m confident in this. I think he would be relentless—kind of like his teasing/rivalry of Foolish on QSMP (and others other times). I think he prefers shorter blades like knives but he’ll use whatever he can get his hands on and definitely his hands, especially as a demon they surely have claws. He’s very “a great offense is the best defense”, he won’t give you time to counter attack, but for the most part he comes head on and doesn’t move around a lot. It depends on his mood and how confident he is in his ability to beat his opponent, but he’ll either end a fight as efficiently as possible, or toy with his victim until he gets bored.

Dream uses a ton of parkour in his fights. It’s not even a headcanon, just watch the manhunts. He’s not always trying to get away, he’s just trying to keep a safe distance, get the upper hand and possibly find a better attack point. Also, dream ur ends to have an ulterior motive or some blackmail he may be trying to get to or keep under control. He always likes to keep an ace up his sleeve

Dream also is one of those that moves around a lot. He’ll try to study people he’s fighting but he can’t do it like Phil can, however he will absolutely take advantage of an injury or a slow reaction time. The more he fights someone the better he’ll get at reacting to them specifically which is why he’s such a good villain for Tommy—most people would take forever to be able to react to his dodging, but Dream adapts quickly and prepared for it. He’s studied different fighting styles and trained in everything.

Ok that’s all for now cuz I don’t want this to collect dust in my drafts any longer, but just- yes. My favorite part of fighting that is almost never acknowledged

I'm thinking about dsmp character fighting styles outside of weapon use. Like dodging skills, parkour in battle, stealth, acrobatics, like I'm thinking about this so hard like cclingy throwing each other final disc sadist animation kind of stuff. Like ohh ohh I'm thinking
