Buduga brainspace lately, so I made a bunch of pcs to fill the bg of all my future buduga comics i'll definitely draw. Plus homebrew clans - The ones in yellow are the Mhuul, featuring baby Keliyete and Yagaan (Nimna's mother) : D they don't get along.

The Buduga - Headcanons and Characters

Some headcanons written for the Buduga tribe of Au Ra Xaela which I developed for my multi-chapter Daidukul/Magnai fic Crossroads at Midnight on AO3.

As a tribe of all men, none of them are born into the tribe. They were all tributed, taken, kidnapped, or joined into the tribe at some point of their lives.

Kidnapped men are given hallucinogens to basically brainwash them into joining the tribe. Think of it as a nightly cult-like indoctrination. Children need less of this and are raised nearly like normal.

Though all Buduga call each other "brother" by default and consider each tribe member as such, they also adopt typical familial roles. Children tributed to the Buduga are usually adopted and raised by a couple as their own.

Kidnapping is also a euphemism for a Budugan man successfully seducing other men into joining their tribe.

They value the prowess and aesthetics of men, and thus regularly engage in sports like wrestling, or even foreign ball games, to showcase the male physique.

They do not keep livestock aside from horses and is generally thought to be not so skilled in keeping/raising animals. Policies on additional livestock vary from khan to khan. The previous khan before Daidukul focused more on the upkeep of the horses and supplementing whatever else they would need from raiding other tribes.

Raiding parties of the Buduga are considered some of the most efficient and terrifying. They will destroy an entire iloh with fire and grab whatever and whoever they can. They are, after all, all trained to be warriors of varying capacity. Tribes who wish to be spared destruction usually just tribute male children and some livestock.

They treat their elders well, and the elders serve as a secondary ruling council which the Budugan khan is expected to heed.

Budugan members of age and who are unpartnered (though couples do participate) engage in group sex regularly as a means of celebration or in times of hardship as a means to "loosen up". It is a coming-of-age ritual for lads who are old enough to go through Bardam's Mettle and have not yet been bonded to another man.

If a member falls in love with a woman, he loses his place in the tribe, and is expected to tribute a son in his place.

Contrary to popular belief, if a member of the tribe does not exhibit combat prowess, they are not immediately ostracized. So long as the member may contribute to food supplies in any manner (hunting, fishing, foraging, merchant skills), they have a place in the tribe.

A member of the tribe may become khan by challenging the current khan for the title, where if approved by the elders, the current khan and the challenger must fight to the death. The elders usually approve the challenge no matter what unless there is a direct threat to the survival of the tribe itself should the challenger win.

The khan of the Buduga dies with the title, therefore there were times when the khan is also an elder themselves.

The Budugan khan wears several talismans to mark their position. These are commemorative jewelry from prior victories/triumphant events made by members of the tribe to mark the occasion. Each Budugan khan is also buried with exactly one talisman and thus are constantly depleted and added on to. There are two talismans that are considered to be the first ones ever awarded to the first khan of the Buduga that will never be relinquished.

Each child is raised to be able to wield a spear and be proficient at archery. If he is unable to learn either, he will be taught magic, either spiritcalling or shamanism. The child is expected to be adequate with at least one of these skills.

They are really good at leatherworking, particularly tanning the hides of their hunts. Their mammoth leather is well sought after.

Kuzukh Buduga is probably my most favorite lizard concept I’ve made to date simply because of how strange and cryptid-like he is. He’s extremely flexible and very prone to stabbing people, and he makes the most god awful sounds like a demon creature from hell. This wild man is all violence and eerie smiles.

Oh yeah, and he breeds thousands of spiders.

Aaaaa this has been a project I've been working on for ages, based on a super rough sketch I did FOREVER ago but I vowed one day I would finish it, and today is the day! I haven't done a full piece for a long time so I'm really happy I managed to do one!
