CHELSEA REJECT - BUBBLE GIRL

Terceiro álbum de estúdio deste jovem talento de Nova York, berço de grandes nomes do Hip-Hop. Aqui nesse trabalho, segue o bom trato nas linhas e na escolha dos beats, que imergem em um universo própria da rapper.

Transitando entre o boombap, trap e beats mais experimentais do que o costumeiro, Chelsea deslancha entre uma das emcees mais embaçada, quando o quesito é flow e barras. E o híbrido repertório sem perder a postura só vem pra confirmar isso. 'Bubble Grl' tem 10 faixas e conta com a participação de CJ Fly, Anthony King, T'Nah & LIFEOFTOM.

BIG BLLAKK - ERREJOTACULTDRILL, VOL. 2

Se formos falar de Drill no Brasil, temos obviamente que citar nome do rapper carioca Big Bllakk, uma das grandes referências nacionais. Mas nem tudo são flores, muito menos pra quem vem de baixo, e para que Bllakk chegasse até aqui, um longo e trabalhoso caminho teve de ser percorrido. Depois de singles com certo estrondo na mídia e feats com SD9 e produções de Apoena, foi com Derxan, em uma parceria digna de Romario e Edmundo para o Brasil Grime Shows, que as a melhoria começou a piar. Foi também com o mano Derxan que soltou sua primeira mixtape, 'Músicas Para Fumar Balão', lançada pela Pineapple Storm Records. Big Bllakk solta agora a versão 2.0 do EP 'Errejotacultdrill', que já tinha enxamiado a cena, em agosto de 2021. Com flow mais afiado e a dicção em dia, Bllakk retrata as noites e rondas pela 'cidade purgatório da beleza e do caos.'

O Extend-Play de 7 faixas e +1 bônus, com participações cirúrgicas de Juyè, LEALL, Sant e MG CDD. Já os beats, que trazem também um pouco a atmosfera da orla carioca, com sambas e bossas sampleadas e contrastando com as letras de Big. Os instrumentais são assinados em sua maioria por $amuka, que em collabs com produtores do calibre de Ávila No Beat, Erick Di, Nansy Silvvz, Babidi e Pedro Apoema, fazem o disco crescer ainda mais. Mais um bom lançamento do MC carioca, e mais uma da família Rock Danger!

KURT SUTIL - ME PERGUNTA COMO FOI MEU DIA

"Pergunta Como Foi Meu Dia" é o terceiro disco do manaura Kurt Sutil, um dos artistas mais criativos da nova safra de rappers, se destacando no underground brasileiro, sobretudo nortista. Carlos Wendel, vulgo Kurt Sutil, 22, é um cidadão que como qualquer um tem suas ascenções e crises, mas como é sabido, as condições de raça, classe e geografia atravessam o globo. E no Brasil, terceiro mundo, não seria diferente. No álbum - o artista que se inspirou em Kurt Wagner, o Noturno dos filmes X-Men - desenha bem em linhas e flows agressivos as dificuldades de um jovem afro-índigena. PUMAPJL (FT. SONOTWS) - AUTODOMÍNIO

Mais um trampo da dupla do Febre90's, um dos grandes destaques da cena do Hip-Hop Brasileiro. Puma já se garante por demais, com Sono na retaguarda lançando as pedras, aí já é certeza de qualidade....

Com todos os instrumentais assinados pelo paulista de Jundiaí, o carioca do morro da Mangueira traz um flow de malandro posturado, como de praxe, tratando das vivências pós-sucessada do seu último trabalho, também com TWS, "Naturalidade EP".

O disco, apesar de curto, é objetivo. Se antes, em Naturalidade, pumapjl rimava sobre os balões no morro, e história de sua infância, personagens de sua vida e afins, hoje ele põe no papel as vivências de autocontrole e autodomínio nessa nova fase da sua vida artística e pessoal, com perspectivas totalmente diferentes de quando surgiu na cena. E segue contrariando estatísticas nessas 7 faixas, conseguindo dialogar com seu trabalho anterior, sem cansar flow ou lírica, e ainda estourar com um som não habitual entre o mainstream, sujo e mais orgânico, cheio de picotadas de jazz, música brasileira e batidas crocantes. Aliás, a drumkit do tio Sono, é brincadeira....

best choreos of 2023!

not gonna lie, this year was a rough one for choreos. like with the actual music itself, this year was profoundly complacent and very few choreographies were truly inspired and willing to do something original. i was actually afraid for a bit that i was not even gonna be able to fill out a top ten list, much less having any runners' up. so here's a list of runners' up:

circle - onew

i have a bit of a love hate relationship with the circle choreo bc on one hand i LOVE it, the imagery and idea is beautiful i think it's one of the few choreos this year that actually embodies what the song and the cb were trying to say. but on the other hand, as a contemporary dance enjoyer it is.........let down by the fact that kpop is a predominantly hiphop based genre and the backup dancers are not up to snuff for this type of choreo. kaspar did a pretty good job choreographing it but hiphop and contemp/modern are notoriously hard styles to slide between for dancers, and i really think they should have actually got a modern choreographer and a modern troupe. it would have significantly upped the quality and given the stages that extra gut punch.

grl gvng - xg

honestly you really could sub in any xg choreo from this year here bc they were all stellar, but the commitment of grl gvng clinched it for me. the costuming, the makeup, the style of movement all tell such a clear story that i would have included it on my list regardless of what the album was, but the transition from hesonoo to xgene to grl gvng is fucking UNREAL. it's so refreshing to see a gg actually commit to a concept that isn't pretty bubbly straightness and to not compromise on it regardless of how much people bitch, right down to the choreo. there's something immensely satisfying about seeing a choreo about how these girls are alien cyborgs and have it actually LOOK like they are alien cyborgs, the intentional clunkiness and 'offputting' movements and all. i've been begging for an actual real concept like this for years and finally. finally it has been delivered.

chrome arts - onlyoneof

its not a choreo list by me if there isn't an ooo one, and once again they came right out of the gate at the beginning of the year with something batshit insane. the knee walk move is crazy. i love it 10/10.

killer - key

unlike a lot of the other entries on this list, i don't think killer has as concise of a concept other than "the 80s", but the great thing about it is that you absolutely can successfully pull off a more abstract concept if you do it well. this is such a strong choreo with good images and composition, plus a lot of 80s references in the moves themselves, and sometimes that's all you need if you put the right care into it. this is actually one of the few choreos that i've seen that correctly capture the feel of an mj choreo from the 80s, which seems to be a real challenge for a lot of idols. i will say that i think it would have made more sense to me if this had been a repack to bad love, bc it has the same vein of nostalgia vibes and a very similar feel in the shapes of the choreo, but really they're all part of his retro series so it's not a substantive complaint.

the rizzness - taemin

don't speak to me don't look at me i'm literally never recovering from this in my entire life. i cannot fucking believe he made me say with full conviction that ""the rizzness"" is one of the best taemin bsides but also of fucking course he did. this is black rose but eviler (complimentary). it's so interesting to see how versatile taemin's style is and where his true strengths lie. obviously his title track choreos are perfectly tailored to his body and his abilities and they are all unreal choreos on their own. but there's something about the way that he carries himself when he does more hiphop based choreo that has such a natural power to it. it's so clear that this is the style that he started learning dance in and especially now that he's become much more settled in his body since he got back from the military, it's so obvious how much love he has for this song and this way of movement that i don't think any of his title tracks will stack up in the same to it in my eyes.

don't call me - dkz nine to six

insane. insane insane insane. i love everything about this. it's weird its creative it had very clear imagery that supports the song, it says fuck capitalism, what more could you possibly want. honestly one of the best choreos of the last couple years. i'm also gonna include nod here too bc it was the bside they promoted and it has crazy choreo also, and highly recommend ppl listen to digital love, the other bside. very strong release from dkz this year despite all the shit they went through.

Top 10 kpop songs of October

Chasing That Feeling - TXT. Not surprising. It came out in October and I liked it quite a bit. Very synth ethereal. Don't like the choreo too much though, it's too sharp.

오늘 조금 취해서 그래 - Youha. Very not surprising. It'll probably be my top song of the year. What a glorious synth masterpiece.

Eyes Roll - (G)I-DLE. Coming in at #12 we have our third kpop song which is kinda surprising considering I didn't like it that much. It's fine, but ehh very standard I guess?

有吗炒面 ALGTR - Lexie Liu. Still confused by the title, but still a glorious synth guitar masterpiece. At #22.

Payback - Ive. Directly below ALGTR is the only Ive song I liked from their newest release. Nice and chill.

Flower Rain - Youha. At #32 is another top song of the year contender. Perhaps my favorite opening of all time.

Back For More (TXT Ver.) - TXT. Hip and groovy! Sexy and cool! Better than the collab ver. lmao.

Bubble - STAYC. At #45 is my fave bubblegum release of the year. A fun chorus, and a swag synth for the post-chorus.

GRL GVNG - XG. Right below Bubble is my favorite girl crush release of the year! I don't super like Maya/Jurin's rapping style, Cocona is my favorite, but that's a style matter. I love the instrumental and the lyrics slap surprisingly enough.

X-GENE - XG. At #47 is a surprise considering I only remember playing it like three times this month. It's a fine intro song but I wish companies weren't so afraid of releasing full-length songs.

Actual top song was, funnily enough, La Borinqueña (Sharks Version) from the 2021 West Side Story movie soundtrack. #3 was Howl's Moving Castle Theme, Kyle Landry's piano version. That's my music tastes for you I guess.

Top artists were: Taylor Swift, Lorde, Halsey, Marina, and Fall Out Boy, in that order. Fascinating. Been a while since I had guys in the top 5. Then Imagine Dragons, (G)I-DLE, TXT, Twice, Over The Garden Wall soundtrack, and Olivia Rodrigo. Truly fascinating stuff here.

• but once the surprise had passed, another word stuck with him : brother-in-law ? as in « my sibling speaks so highly of you that i’m willing to let you put a ring on their finger even though i have never met you yet » ?

• well, it was good to know that your brother agreed with the plans he’d had for you since day 1...

• it was not unusual for akaashi to think that maybe he was not good enough for you. but being actually jealous was a first for him

• he had promised himself to never be too overprotective of you. but the facts were here : it was 3am and the only thing keeping him up was this unknown feeling of pure jealousy

• « who were you with ? i mean- this afternoon ? i don’t think i’ve ever met that guy and i was just wondering if... maybe i should ? »

• sitting up straight on your bed, you felt a weight being lifted off your shoulders. if this was the only thing keeping him awake, he should be able to fall asleep in the following minutes. « i was with my brother. but i understand why you were confused, it’s a normal reaction so please don’t blame yourself for that, alright baby ? »

• the gasp you heard on the other end of the line made you chuckle. akaashi’s voice was much less tensed now : « well in that case, yeah i should probably meet him... if you’re ok with that »

• « i’m more than ok with that » you smiled, placing your phone down on your pillow « wanna stay on the phone for a bit ? »

• « that’d be nice », his voice sounded sleepy already, especially above the familiar sound of his covers being pulled up to his chin

• how could he put that in words ? he didn’t even know if he was allowed to be jealous because he knew how often you had to see him deal with his many fangirls

• and that was actually what bugged him the most : that he might have already made you feel as shitty as he was feeling now

• but atsumu wasn’t the type to sit down and seriously open up about his feelings. besides, it was much easier to look like a needy boyfriend rather than a vulnerable one

• so he resorted to what he was best at : physical touch as a way to get your attention

• sneaking up behind you, he didn’t give you any warning before wrapping both his arms around your waist and pressing his chest on your back so much that you almost had to bend over

• he really hoped you would be perceptive enough to understand that he wasn’t just being clingy, but in need of a lot of reassurance. and luckily, it was quick to come :

• « tsumu, let me introduce you my brother » you chuckled, understanding how and why he had been mistaken

• one hand still on your waist, he used the other to greet your brother. atsumu did not really seem fazed by the news. of course he was relieved to know that he had nothing to worry about, but this little experience had still been very eye-opening to him

• after your brother had left to give you two some privacy, tsumu’s grip on your waist tightened, but in a softer way

• « ‘m sorry if i ever made ya cry » he let out, completely out of the blue. you didn’t really understand the meaning of this, but it didn’t matter. your hand found its way to his cheek that you brushed lightly with one finger, admiring the how it was slowly turning red. « being jealous sucks... » he added.

• « it does », you approved, giving him a quick peck on the nose. « but there’s nothing and no one that you should worry about, i promise »

• a fond smile lit up his face. you looked sincere, and he really needed to hear that right now. quick as ever, his hands left your waist to come and rest on your cheeks. both holding each other’s faces, you stared at the other for a few seconds, wondering which one of you would give in to a kiss first

In terms of SuperBros dynamic, I once stated in weird way, the three personality wise can be akin to the Powerpuff Grls;

Conner (90s/2019 version) is the rebellious one who takes no bad mouth or being called ‘Superboy’ from anyone, somewhat the Buttercup

Chris is the shy and reversed one, very polite, and can be prone to getting sad more than the others but will not hesitate to fight back and go hardcore if need be, analogous to Bubbles

And finally you have Jon, who is dedicated to the ways of being a hero, level headed in many situations whether he’s a leader or not, a mild mannered and good hearted soul who is not a pretty sight once his temper is unleashed, therefore the Blossom of them
