Discussing the 2.0 storyline focus, potential story threads

(Spoilers for 1.9, 2.0,2.1 and the recent release of the 2.2 PV)

Again MAJOR spoilers will be discussed here for 1.9 so do not read if you are global only.

Ive been sitting on some thoughts and would like to put them somewhere so here.

This will be purely lore based ( I am open for discussion and asks about global and cn btw asks are open I think?)

Focus on Zeno:

If the focus of the 1.0 storyline was on Laplace then 2.0 is focused on Zeno this time around. We are likely to be getting more Zeno characters as well (think so far its Lopera deffo, and idk on Mr Duncan and White Rum) just like with Laplace. Lilya probably is gonna be present for the long haul of the story arc, at least 2 to 3 patches possibly so it will be interesting to get more of her background and childhood.

In terms of Igor, there is a chance that like Lucy, he may become playable in the future. Igor now 2.2 is being sent to "clean up" the situation in Sao Paulo and this immediately is about killing all of the officers involved in the mutiny (again Lopera, what is her position here? I lean towards being a local as she doesn't wear the Zeno uniform as far as we have seen examples of. As much as alot of people want Igor to be playable I have a couple of suspicions on him.

Urd, Bessmert and Martha:

I think 2.0 story might give us more answers to Vertin's mom this time around. Not much here but oh god you better not leave a cliffhanger before Bessmert Martha Urd whatever actually has a convo with Vertin BP.

Implications of nuking Arcana:

Victories in R1999 are never simple (sure that Reformation Bill got passed but the "doves" of the Foundation is still a plotline that has not fully been addressed yet).

1.9 Igor is the one who verifies if Arcana is dead, with the headphones and all. What is suspicious is that after taking them off he says "it was just the wind shes dead", now why include that line? What if it wasn't just the wind but actually Arcana in some shape or form had survived? Arcana has already been referred to as a powerful arcanist and we do not know the full extent of her powers, as I said before shes created a martyrdom out of herself now coming to fruition in 2.0.

Druvis is a major flag here: out of everyone so far we interacted with she is definite that Arcana is not entirely defeated, and tbh she alongside Forget Me Not probably have been around her substantially enough to make a judgement like this. I mean Sophia got maybe one or two interactions with Arcana before the shitshow that was the Storm of 1914.

Stephen in 2.1 points towards these complications, although take this but with a grain of salt as I cannot translate anything and can only judge the voiced lines. He calls Vertin a murderer straight up over the nuking, ofc Vertin would be credited with the victory as it was her team that got Arcana in position for Zeno to fire but wdym? Why a murderer? Wasn't it Zeno who fired the bomb, and it was a longstanding goal of Zeno? It could be Tuesday manipluation of his fears so again conjecture.

Discussion of 2.2 story/ what the hell is gonna happen:

Already warning signs to the Foundation as a whole: Laplace did see loads of personal fall for the effects of the imperfect incantation and now wait to find or decide the new head of Laplace. Zeno even more dangerous, Igor suspecting potential Manus infiltration into their ranks and already Igor has resulted to literal firing squad of officers in the Sao Paulo branch. Maybe Stephen is not an outlier his thoughts. We still do not know the identities of the Eyepatch officer and the other dead ones who attempted to kill Vertin or his motives. (Again you start and focus on this one seen and show the immediate aftermath + Bessmert and Vertin interaction, thats alot for first mainline CH)

Were probably gonna get more information on the internal workings of Zeno this time around, possibly attempting to root out the Manus infilration.

(Thats everything so far in speculation I will return to Global posting possibly until the versions come out)

Sniper x Scout x A clingy s/o

Scout and Sniper are on opposite ends when it comes to PDA. Jeremy does not care if others are around, he's gonna give huge bear hugs and big kisses all the time ! In private places, Mundy straight up does not wanna let go, he's gonna cling until you tell him you gotta move. But once youre back comofortably, back to koala bear mode.

Something Mundy does that Jeremy thought was a little odd at first was sniffing. Sniper likes sniffing you and him like a puppy. He just finds your scents comforting.

Mundy loves giving you and Scout kisses on the forehead or top of your heads so he doesn't have to bend down that much. Scout can and has bragged about being the perfect height that he can kiss either of you on the lips without having to tell one of you to bend down. And if you're small, sometimes you settle for kissing them on the neck or chin so you don't have to ask them to bend down.

Scout 10/10 ambushes you with hugs from behind. And if Sniper sees him approaching you from behind? If he knows what Scout is doing, he'll keep quiet. But there have been times he completely outed Scout just because he was happy to see him and eager to greet him.

Scout acts like he likes being the big spoon, but he actually really likes being little. It gives him a sense of comfort and safety, but if anything, he prefers holding you guys while facing you instead of away. Bonus points if he can hold one of you to his chest like a plushy.

Sniper on the other hand likes being the big spoon. Just the feeling of you or Scout pressed against his body relaxes him so much that he falls asleep in just a few minutes. You and Scout don't have the heart to tease him for it cause he never gets enough sleep unless one of you are around.

You three sometimes have to take turns to see who gets to be in the middle. Sniper doesn't always participate in these little negotiations, he's just happy that you both wanna cuddle.

If youre small, Scout fucking loves carrying you, it makes him feel so strong and he gets to hold you close so win win. He has tried to pick up Sniper but they both fell over, and Sniper hasn't let him do it since. Snipes would carry you if you asked, and would be super blushy and amazed if you ever managed to carry him ! Same for scout tbh

Jeremy will sometimes grab you by the waist out of nowhere and pull you close to his side, bumping your hips together. The only reason he doesn't do that for Sniper as much is cause of the whole PDA thing.

Mundy is very prone to pulling either of you on his lap, but typically gets crushed after he pulls one of you and then the other insists to join (he likes it though).

Sniper usually sleeps at the innermost side of the bed cause hes a super light sleeper, meanwhile Scout sleeps at the edge side because you might need a nuclear bomb to wake this man up. Scout drools in his sleep btw and Mundy has seriously considered bringing a towel to bed because of it.

Every fuckin time you laugh Scout cant help but join even if youre laughing at something really gruesome or something. Sniper cant help but smile too.

Even tho Mundy isn't big on PDA, sometimes when he feels overwhelmed he'll hold your or Jeremy's sleeve or the back of your shirt for comfort.

Anyways. In general there's just so much bickering so there's never a dull moment. And Scout never fuckin shuts up so there's a lot of snarky remarks to be made.

But sometimes you or Mundy start feeling a little overwhelmed with all the noise. You both can recognize easily when the other is getting a little overwhelmed, but Jeremy needs a little time to figure out the cues. But when one of you lets him know, he'll start being a little quieter or just outright stop talking until he knows you guys are okay.

Back to cuddling hcs. You guys tend to fall asleep and wake up at completely different times, so you managed to keep a proper sleep schedule purely so you can all sleep together.

I could actually kind of see this being Angel and Adam, because of course I love the idea of their friendship lol, especially if Angel is like, sarcastically telling him "welcome to the family". Also with the lines "I see you're a king who's been dethroned. Cast out in a world you've never know. I don't have specific links on hand because this is an opinion I have developed over many years of reading on this issue but I will explain what I mean about the human shields thing, so at least you know where I stand on it.

Israeli leadership often claims that they have no choice but to bomb hospitals and schools and residential buildings because Hamas is hiding in them, that is the essence of the ‘human shields’ claim. And as far as I know, it is a factual claim that Hamas militants are in those kind of buildings. But there are two points I think are important to contextualize this claim.

The first, is that Palestine is not a real independent state. It does not have sovereignty in any of the ways we use that word. It doesn’t have a capital city. It doesn’t have an elected central government or an independent judiciary. It has no control over its own resources (the mere fact that Israel can cut off fuel and water is deafening evidence of that, because what other country has the ability to cut off water to another state?) Where this comes into play in this conversation is that Palestine has no military, due completely to the occupation and Israel not allowing it to be a sovereign state. This is not in defense of Hamas. They are not defensible and any leftists pretending they’re freedom fighters immediately lose any credibility in my eyes. But it is factual that Hamas operates in residential areas instead of military bases because military bases have not been allowed to exist.

The second, and more important, point, is that I don’t accept that a terrorist potentially being in a residential building is justification for dropping a bomb on it. Extrapolate that logic to any other situation. Let’s say the FBI thinks Ted Bundy is maybe hiding in a 20-storey apartment building. They don’t know this for sure, but they claim to have intel (which they refuse to make public) that shows he’s in a unit on the third floor. Does that give them permission to drop a bomb on that building and kill all 300 people who live there? If it turned out they were right and Ted was among the lifeless bodies they pulled from the rubble, would they be allowed to say “see we got him, so we made the right call and had no other choice”? I would argue, fuck no. Tbh I kind of don’t know how to empathize with someone who would argue yes. But that is the argument the Israeli government is making when they cry human shields. They’re saying they have to slaughter thousands of children, because a Hamas militant might be hiding in that elementary school. It is my opinion that that’s indefensible, regardless of whether they’re right about the presence of Hamas.

You’ve been keeping us fed with a new chapter every 3 days it feels like and everytime I come on tumblr I check to see if you posted a new chapter 🤩

During ”You’re mine” I thought that we would get some crazy plottwist where T would turn out to be a psycho or smthn because of the lovebombing but honestly I prefer the lighthearted path you choose. I get what people mean with ”only smut and fluff” but tbh I dont mind it at all. I absolutely loooove the way you write the smut and like you said it is a big part of their relationship and the kind of couple they are. And sure, angst can put more depth into their relationship and the storyline by seeing how they deal with it and react but sometimes its just nice to read something that makes me feel happy and at ease too.

The new chapter had me in tears when Trent and Y/n had their mini speeches to eachother after Teddy was born 🥲 Your writing really makes me feel the emotions behind the words.

Since this is such a developed fic I think you have the space to challenge yourself and explore your talent when writing and try new/different things outside of your comfort because you are a really good writer and I truly believe you can only go up from here. cleared 15 more floors of side order last night and left the last 5 for tonight (i remembered that i beat octo expansion like a day or 2 before the first splatfest after it--the orange juice one--so i decided i should try to be done in time for this one too)

and i beat it! (some spoilers ahead)

first 2 phases of the final boss weren't so bad, but in the third i died once (from the stingray... i remembered stingers are the number one thing i die from in salmon run so after that whenever i heard it i just RAN. reefsliders also broke my armor once so i learned to be careful of those too)

and since i only have 2 lives i had to play it super safe the rest of the fight. after dying, it literally took me almost 20 minutes for just that one phase (i recorded my playthrough so i know exactly how long it took).

i'd swapped my special for killer wail at a vending machine early on (using dualies btw) so my strategy was just to continue swimming + inking around the perimeter of the stage and then point the wail at it and go back to running. i also had a swim speed up chip and that certainly helped. slowly i wore each of the targets down bit by bit until they were gone (and sometimes ofc if i felt safe enough i'd hurl a splat bomb--i also got those--or go in and shoot at it)

wave 4 was super fun but i let all that power (and the music) go to my head and almost got killed by stingray again (if i didn't have armor i wouldve been dead)

was a little surprised that you only have to clear 30 floors (i guess 40 including the tutorial) considering how quick a lot of them go, i guess the expectation is you'll lose at least one run? (and i guess i did come close to doing that)

it's gonna get harder from here though probably. generally i chose based on which color chips seemed best, so i ended up doing a lot of easier floors (and i quickly learned my dislike of splat zones extends to this version of them too, i barely made it through a couple of normal/hard ones and decided to avoid them for the rest of the run) (tbh they're still better than defending an orb. at least you don't die if they take the zone)

....but i expect i'll probably want to clear all of the floors at least once in the end, just like how i've cleared every octo expansion/rotm stage with every weapon even though that isn't really necessary. so im going to have to go through splat zone hell later. maybe that'll make me better at splat zones though (also i guess the hacks should make that significantly easier. all i had was one extra life and slight damage reduction)

i did do one rigorous floor, acrobatic_triangular.floor, and it was fine. as with a lot of things in this game the trick was to just keep moving

and now that i've finally unlocked inkopolis square i can work on clothing store badges again (having unlocked the gold one in splatsville recently). i added up the amount needed to get everything i didn't have from 1 star to 2 stars and it was well over a million (this was before fresh season added more, too) so i didn't have to worry about potentially not being able to put money towards the jelfonzo badges. but at least now i'll get them sooner

i do still need gold hat/shoe badges from splatsville (i have all the inkopolis plaza ones) so i guess i'll be running back and forth until i have all of those and can focus my purchases entirely on inkopolis square shops

anyway splatfest for the next couple days so i guess i won't be doing anything in side order until at least after that. i do have several days off in a row though. also i gotta do my taxes. also i gotta get up for work in like 3 hours goodnight

I would've followed a bit better if I understood more about the political landscape of WWII China, but it wasn't too bad. Definitely one of those movies where I want to go back and rewatch it immediately now that I know what I know from the end.

I will put the rest under a cut because very definitely spoilers.

The entire first half, I was kind of confused and disappointed because Yibo's role was barely a background character? I was like... how did he get second billing? How did he catch the critics' attention?

Then he has the scene in the bathroom with his ex-fiance, and from there suddenly he's the main character of the second half of the movie. It's like Tony Leung got half and he got half LOL And he's so damn good in his half.

I don't particularly like or care about fight scenes, but his were so good?? That first one with the bitchslap, he's just explosive. In the bathroom scene he becomes a ticking time bomb that's just waiting for an excuse to go off, and when he does it's breathtaking. But then he manages to just bottle that energy back up as soon as he's done with one fight, and spends the rest of the movie like that. Like every single scene he was in from there on I was convinced he was about to go off and kill someone or at least maim them - he only winds up doing it a few more times, but anytime he's not being violent you can just feel the violence he's bottling up inside radiating out of him. I can 100% see why the NYT chose the words "simmering" and "mesmerizing."

I will admit I might not have been as transfixed during Yibo & Tony's big fight scene (which, the bts is just a tiny clip of a very long scene) if it weren't for the fact that I'd seen the clip of the truck scene so I knew they both survived, so I spent the entire time holding my breath like how the fuck do they both survive this. Like, it just doesn't seem like the kind of fight where one is gonna let the other walk away. But speaking of that...

Two bits my husband and I did not understand by the end:

If Ye was actually on He’s side the whole time, why did they have the huge fight?? Like that seemed way more than necessary just to continue pretending to be on opposite sides. Sure, Ye couldn't have just let He go or vice-versa, but like they both nearly killed the other multiple times, and tbh the only reason Ye survived that fall is movie magic (it might not be wuxia but it did inherit just a smidge from that genre in terms of this fight scene I think). Why such a knock-down drag-out fight if they're actually on the same side? Surely they could've made less look like more.

Then the much smaller thing: Early on, He buys pastries to pass a note to… his wife? It happens so early when you don’t know who anyone is, by the time they come back to it I couldn’t quite remember what had happened. I think it turned out to be his wife. Anyhow, then later the Japanese guy asks what took him so long and he says he was buying dim sum but then produces the pastries??? Why did he say it was dim sum? Such a weird lie to tell when you've got the pastries to show him (I assume He bought two boxes). And the Japanese guy doesn't comment on it or anything. Were the subtitles just mistranslated or something? IDK my husband thought he heard them say dim sum but obviously he wasn't paying close attention to that detail as they were saying it, that was just in retrospect after he realized it wasn't dim sum, so maybe they said something else and it got mistranslated.

Edit: Mystery solved! @trickybonmot says she heard them say 点心 (dianxin), and according to purpleculture.net (whose dictionary is top-notch and I trust way more than Google), that can mean dessert/pastry OR dim sum! So it’s not exactly mistranslated, they just chose the translation that makes less sense to English-speaking audiences.

Overall, btw, the translation was great. SO much smoother and less awkward than literally any TV show I've watched. They had both Mandarin and English subs up the whole time, even when the characters were speaking Japanese or Shanghainese.

It was very violent and there were a lot of things that were highly disturbing in a "horrors of war" kind of way. Like yes some bits were gory but I think the disturbing outweighed the explicitly gory by far.

The nonlinear narrative has gotten mixed reviews; I think it's the kind of thing where if you like that type of storytelling (which I do!) you'll like it and if you don't you won't. If you're neutral idk what you'll think. There were definitely a few times when I wasn't totally sure when we were, but usually it didn't make things outright not make sense. There are also a few scenes that I'm still not sure why we went back to them, but I bet if I rewatched it those choices would make more sense.

It was definitely communist propaganda, but I don't think that was heavy-handed. They just showed the communists as definitely The Good Guys of the war. Obviously Japan was The Bad Guy, but they kind of just pushed the non-communist Chinese nationalists to one side and ignored them? IDK, again I might not understand the politics or get the references well enough to know how they actually handled it, but it mostly seemed like that side was more ignored than, like, actively portrayed as bad the way the Japanese were. It doesn't actually, like, make any claims about why communism is good or anything, it's more like “communists” just happens to be the name of the good guys in this war. The ideology itself makes like one brief appearance when Ye's ex-fiance talks about laborers, and even then she says maybe I'll marry a laborer or an intellectual and I was like 😬 and how did communism work out for the intellectuals in 20-30 years? Not sure if that was actually a subtle dig on Cheng Er's part or not.

Anyhow I am very excited to talk about the movie with anyone who's seen it, or I can answer questions for anyone who hasn't!

okay writing this a second time (bc i accidentally deleted the first draft lmfao) so hope it makes some sense at least. (nvm this is all over the place and very filmbro-ish at times im sorry for everything but doubt anyone will read it anyway so...)

(if anyone does tho feel free to share ur opinions, but watch out! im merely a random person on the internet who doesnt know anything abt anything so dont take anything i say so seriously)

i feel like i finally cracked what bugs me so much abt the negative reception of this movie at some circles. a lot of people criticize it not for reasons it can be criticized, but for not being didactic. a film's job is not to be didactic imo. it doesnt have to hold your hand, sit you down, and say "atom bomb is soooo terrible btw all these people are terrible people for making the bomb okay????". at least that's not my expectation from a film, and i kinda find it ridiculous that a lot of people think that way tbh

and it is so sad to see ppl disregard media because they find it "boring" (aka too long without hand-holding and so little action) or "uncomfortable". it really shows that people stopped caring abt stories in the first place... and ive seen so many people who dont even intend to see this film try to criticize it according to some moral values that may not even directly have anything to do with the work

and btw when i say movies are not supposed to be didactic, i dont mean it in a "it doesnt matter if this movie has an actively hurtful or offensive narrative on purpose" kinda way. which is so not the case with this movie. i feel like everyone who calls it war propaganda or whatever has either 1) not seen the movie and making it all up as they go or 2) seen the movie but with piss poor media literacy so they didnt really understand what it was trying to say.

i personally liked how the film decides not to show the japan bombings or their direct aftermath visually. it could very easily go into the territory of tragedy porn, especially from the lens of an american director. it was not nolan's tale to tell. and i like how he was aware of this. and it also adds to the film's stance on oppenheimer, which is him being a spineless coward who doesnt want to face the consequences of his actions, or in the words of the film, who commits a sin and tries to act like the victim.

for me, the greatest and most satisfying part of the narrative was when the characters have to face the fact that they're "not that important". obviously, this realization happens directly with rdj's character (strauss) at the end. but i think the same can be said abt oppenheimer as well. the final scenes are great at portraying this (actually, the whole film after trinity is great at it imo). for me, it is clear that even if oppenheimer didnt make the bomb, someone else wouldve done it anyway. and someone wouldve used it. "once the nuclear genie is out of the box..." oppenheimer's individual actions cant change anything. he cant stop the bombing, he cant stop the h-bomb program, he cant even change people's ideas about him. in the grand scheme of the nuclear arms race, he truly is not that important even as the father of the bomb. this is very interesting for a biopic, because in the end it shows oppenheimer being powerless against his own creation. and that's why i think the main takeaway shouldnt be the "oppenheimer created the atom bomb and killed thousands of people". yeah that's true but this is not the story being told here. the story of nuclear war is far bigger than oppenheimer or strauss or anyone else. the takeaway for me was more in line of "now we're living in the atomic age, and the chain reaction that could -and perhaps will- destroy the whole earth is already triggered". the earth is a body of water, and human beings are merely droplets in the water. when it starts to rain, the ripple will reach the whole surface. individual droplets won't make a difference then.

(this is a metaphor i completely missed in my 1st watch btw and when i realized this in my 2nd watch it was so. fucking. satisfying. i love that ending so much)

with all that being said, it is also so impressive to me that nolan tells such a story in the form of a biopic. even if i say he's "not that important", surely oppenheimer as a person, as a myth, as a character was in the center of this work. the story is told as how nolan personally interprets oppenheimer. the editing was also impressive in this regard, even by nolan's standards. the changes between the povs of oppenheimer and strauss was integrated so well. because we are used to nolan juggling the timelines; but he is juggling timelines, and the povs of the two opposing characters now. anyway, what i wanted to say about this approach to editing was this: he manages to tell the story very successfully in both the small scale (ie the political tension between characters) and the big scale (ie the nuclear war is so much bigger than you guys' pissing contest) and it felt so very satisfying when everything falls into place nicely.

while doing all that, it also manages to (very subjectively) reflect oppenheimer's inner conflicts. honestly, these parts were the most technically astonishing scenes of the whole movie, so fucking crazy. big i love films moment for me. and im guessing those scenes are one of the main reasons why many people seem to think the film paints oppenheimer as a sad lonely hero, or something. well obviously i disagree with that statement, as i already told that the film takes a different stance imo. it was clear for me that the film is showing oppenheimer as a man who stands for nothing (save for improvement of science, maybe). even the other characters are confronting him about this all the time, so it's not even like a super hidden message or something. and even in those scenes that show his mind shattering after trinity, he was not painted in a sympathetic light if u ask me. he is constantly conflicting himself regarding where he stands in the matter, and especially considering the said matter is the creation of the biggest mass destruction weapon on earth, i wouldnt say that is very hero-like of him. so no i dont agree w those sentiments, and im also willing to give nolan a pass for these scenes, because holy fuck man.

(i havent even written anything about how the film is a technical marvel in so many ways but consider this my statement: holy shit man that's insane)

obv there are things that the film could've (or maybe should've) explored more, especially regarding the identity politics of oppenheimer being a jewish man. i get that nolan decided to focus on the communism perspective more, and maybe if he wanted to explore everything, then it would be trying to do too much. so im not really sure how he could tackle this better. (there's also his relationship w jean, which also left me feeling like hmm idk there could be more to this). but as i said, im not really sure, and even if i did have an idea, i feel like i would be falling short trying to explain it so yeah (the film is also 3 hrs long... while it was a delight for me, i dont know if making it longer would be a better option lol)

so all in all... while i can see that there are some problems, i certainly appreciate everything this film is trying to do, and succeeding in most of them (imo). the second half works so so so much better than the first half. i felt like there are some pacing problems in the first half especially the beginning, but man. after trinity, this movie starts to become so fucking ridiculous. especially in imax. i previously said the sound design haunts me. WELL. now imagine how im feeling now that i FELT all of that in my chest for the last half especially. everything from the chillingly silent moments, to roaring explosions. AND cillian's incredible acting that goes with all that. i went and saw it this morning, now it's evening and im still reeling. i wish i could explain why i find this so fucking astonishing in a better way but that's all i can do rn

pls dont boo me this is literally all i can do since now i am become headache, destroyer of minds. i dont even know if any of this makes sense but welpppp as i said i dont believe anyone will even read this fully bc why would they :p anyway anyone who enjoys cinema should see this in imax right nowww im not even kidding. 1. Who would end a heated argument by defending their actions with ‘because I love you’?

Harry to be honest. I can see this being his reasoning every time he works overtime or does anything with the intention of protecting her and his family. “I’m doing this for our family, to make the world a safer place for them. Because I love you! And I love them!” Also this dude is mega dramatic for literally anything. Whether Ginny would accept that as a valid reason to end an argument is another question entirely 🤔 . Either way, there’s always a part of her that tingles every time she hears it.

13. Who’s the bigger tease?

Intentionally, Ginny. She’d corner him when he’s either really busy doing work at home or even at the Burrow, Ministry meetings, or even at mundane places like the grocery store. She’d flip her hair over her shoulder, exposing her neck, or start touching the pads of her fingers on his bicep, or lean on his side, or stare at him with the classic blazing look. Harry would pretend to ignore it but there’s no mistaking his rising blush - and when he grows older - his foot and fingers from tapping restlessly before he gives in and pushes her against the wall in some lonely corridor (just like old times) where he can really give all his attention to her, not that she didn’t have it already.

Unintentionally, Harry. He’d offer to read the book she’s reading (“you’re laughing so much, it can’t be that funny” but they both know he wants to just laugh with her), or compliment her flying skills, or gush at her witty commentary in the Prophet, or suggest he watch the kids while she goes for some much needed girl time - in which case, Ginny decides everything else can fucking wait because this hunk of a man is actually with her forever and ever and ever, and she proceeds to blow his effing mind (amongst other things) once more.

Both do it a lot tbh, but the person who does it the most is Harry. As much of a rep Gin gets for being impulsive, when it comes to random kisses Harry takes the lead. In his eyes, she’s just so cute and small but also she’s this ball of energy and light, and when he looks upon her as she’s hexing yet another person who lowkey (high key) deserved it, he thinks back to the war and his suffering and all he can come to terms with is yes. It was worth it. She will always be. And then, boom. He snogs the angst away, and she lets him.

Sigh. Ginny, poor thing. As a shorty myself, I figure she wouldn’t get past much. But Harry finds it cute when she drinks and she’s always doing really silly things like dancing on top of tables and making really brazen innuendos that make him grin as much as he blushes. She’d probably hit him teasingly for being a “typical noble male git” if he told her this, but he really really really enjoys taking care of her afterward, lying her down and giving her water and massaging her sore feet (because dancing is exhausting, people!) and pampering her in ways she’d roll her eyes at if she was sober.

51. What’s a non verbal way they say I love you?

At first, my answer was going to be in very practical ways like doing each other’s dishes without asking for it/not their day to do it, or Harry killing the cockroach in the corner of the room without teasing her even the tiniest bit because dammit Ron may be scared of spiders but Ginny is absolutely terrified of those disgusting shitters (“Did you know cockroaches have evolved the least out of all bugs?” “Yes, Gin, you say this every single time.”)

But then I remember HBP and the intimate way they’d interact, so I actually do think they keep anniversary dates in mind (nothing too big but appreciative enough - and they definitely like experiences/traveling more than fancy dinners). And I think the way they laugh and touch each other and run fingers through the other’s hair and give massages are all very intimate expressions indeed.

Especially laughter. When Ginny makes a joke and Harry laughs, that validation is like he’s telling her he loves her 3245 times and she absolutely gushes over it.

And when Harry catches Ginny’s mischievous eyes every time someone says an inappropriate joke, he finds himself physically pressing his palm to the core of his chest from the way his heart violently wants to leap out of it.

“Unity” and the Broken Boys

BOY Y’ALL BETTER SIT DOWN BECAUSE THIS IS AS LONG AS CAN BE AND I TOOK OFF WORK TOMORROW SO I’VE GOT TIME

This is....one of the best episodes in the show.  Yeah, in all 325 of them, this is hands down one of the best.

First of all, stan Amara for clear skin.

That silent treatment babey, right out the gate with the Angst.  Tbh Dean deserves it.

“Like I said, killing Amara, Jack dying...that’s the only way.”

“The only way.  Our one shot.  Our Last chance.  You ever get tired of saying stuff like that?”

“We don’t have to like it, alright?  But you and me, we gotta get it done.”

Amara is such a welcome energy in this whole episode.  She’s warm and understanding, whip-smart and probably more powerful than Chuck.  I love her.

Sam is a wonderful, understanding, loving dad.  I love him eternally.  He loves Jack so much, he’s trying so desperately to do what’s right for Jack but also what’s right for the world.  Jack made this choice, but he can’t live with it.  How do you support your child when their life is at stake?

“Come on man.  Blindly following orders, lying to Amara, sending her to her death. Does any of this feel right to you??”

“It doesn’t matter how we feel!  You know what?  Stay.  Stay.  Someone has to be the grown up here.”

“Yeah well someone has to keep fighting for Jack!”

“He knows what he signed up for!”

“Last I checked, we don’t give up on family.”

“Jack’s not family.”

Y’all should have heard the noise I made.  What a fucking line.

“I know how you feel about the kid, I care for him too, I do, but he’s not like you.  He’s not like Cas.  He’s just not.”

“I’m- I’m ready.”

You can see the regret, the heartbreak in Dean’s eyes.  You can see how he wants to take those words back the moment he said them, and for Jack to hear them?  It’s unthinkable.

Sam and Cas I’m just so fucking emo dude.

“Sam, you stayed behind to find another way huh?  I woulda done the same.”

AMARA

First of all, LOVE this structure.

Amara and Chuck have such a fascinating dynamic.  Rob and Emily do a great job (as they have all along) by clearly being siblings but...heightened.  You can just tell they both exude power, and the other is the only one they consider an equal.

“You and Dean had that whole weird...thing.”

“That wasn’t you writing?”

“Ugh, not that part.  Gross.”

What I took away from this is what I’ve suspected all along.  They HAVE free will, just not total free will.  Dean and Amara’s connection wasn’t Chuck, there are parts of the story he didn’t write.  Obviously, this comes into play later. 

I also have a hunch that Chuck doesn’t write romance.  I also think that in particular will come into play.

“Balance.  Something we’ve never tried before.  Creation and destruction, light and dark, brother and sister united again, but on behalf of one world, this world.  True balance.  The way it was always meant to be.  But you can’t.  You only care about your pleasure, your story.  Well, I guess that makes you the villain.”

“Villains get all the best lines.”

We see again and again this season, Chuck is irredeemable.  He doesn’t care about the angels, he doesn’t care about the world, he doesn’t care about anything.  He is a petulant toddler who has broken his toys. And when he realizes he’s trapped, he gets angry, he shouts and screams, completely at odds with Amara’s peace.

“You can’t hold me here forever.”

“I can hold you long enough.”

DEAN

Pain is the name of the game in this section homies.  Because not only are we dealing with Dean’s pain, we’re also dealing with Jack’s.  Jack says he understands why Cas and Sam mean more to Dean, but Dean clearly doesn’t, he, once again, wants to say more, but is stopped, still stopped by his fear: his fear of not beating Chuck.

Alright guys, gals, and non-binary pals.  Let’s talk about Adam and Seraphina.

Adam.  The first man.  And Seraphina.  The angel.

“My old lady.  She’s the only one who could put up with me all these years.”

Yeah okay.  Volume at 100 I get it lmao.

But also: Adam wants God dead not because he and Eve were kicked out of the Garden, but because he went after their sons.  The theme of protecting the children strikes again.

“Killing God is your plan?”

“Yeah, Billie’s been giving us a hand but Sera and me, this is our baby.”

This juxtaposed directly with Dean’s own pain at what he has to do to kill Chuck, to gain his free will: the cost of his child.

Adam’s rib.

And who else might get his ribs hurt, only to be likely healed by an angel?

It’s fine, that’s fine.  I’m fine with that.

“Jack, I don’t know how to explain it but, when I found out about Chuck, it’s like I wasn’t alive.  Not really.  You know like my whole life I’ve never been free, but like really free.  But now?  Now me and Sam, we got a shot at living a life, without all this crap on our backs.  And that’s, that’s because of you.  So, I want to say, I need to say...thank you, Jack.  Thank you.”

I’m gonna have to do a separate post about just Dean in this episode, because there is so fucking much to talk about, but there are a couple of things that I think are important:  Dean realizes how wrong he was, to say what he said.  He knows that it’s not true, this is the way he’s always coped with loss, by pushing the person to be lost away, but for Jack to hear it?  He can’t stand for that.

And:

Dean has finally pushed through the barrier.  He won’t be quiet in the face of his doubts anymore.  This is a breakthrough for him, and, of course, there are more to come.

SAM

Sam and Cas, my chaos duo.

The box, the inscription, the door.

Death’s library, filled with dead reapers.

And there it is.  The Empty.

It tells Sam the plan, the plan for Billie to take God’s place.  For everything to go back to the way it’s “supposed to be.”

This has always been the game, since season 13.  This is the longest of long games.

Sam fuckin Winchester, lying his way out of a confrontation with the Empty like the legend that he is.

He comes back with a new purpose: to stop Billie’s plan, and here’s where we get to the heart of the episode and maybe the heart of the season.

“You hear that?  Dean, brought to the edge of doubt.  His sense of duty, his rage winning out in the end.  And poor Sam, always gotta know everything.  Can’t leave well enough alone.  This is my ending, my real ending.”

The gun comes out, pointed at Sam.

Hmm...what did I say during 15x05?  Oh yeah, this.

And:

Dean would never survive killing Sam, but he’s willing to do anything, anything to earn his freedom.  His ending, where one brother kills the other and then kill himself.

Why, you might ask, did Sam not mention that the angels would be sent back to Heaven, why does he not mention Cas?  I’ll tell you why, or rather, Becky will.

Plus, Dean looks back at Cas IMMEDIATELY when Sam says that, when he mentions Eileen, and THAT’S the first time he hesitates.  He can’t lose Cas.  But at the same time, he’s willing to do anything to have his freedom.

“Sam we don’t have a choice, Jack’s about to blow!”

“We always have a choice!”

You know me, just sitting here thinking about choice, the ability to choose, and how that translates to their free will.

And Sam...I don’t think there will ever be characters I love as much as these.

“I don’t care if Billie gets what she wants!  I don’t man, I’d trade it all, I’d trade em all for Chuck.  In a heartbeat!”

“What about me?”

“You’d trade me?”

“Chuck has to die.  He has to!  Otherwise he’ll keep us tap dancing forever, and I can’t live like that man, I can’t live like that, I won’t!”

“I know you feel like that right now, okay? I know you do, but you gotta trust me.  My entire life, you’ve protected me.  From Dad, from Lucifer, from everything.  I didn’t always like it, you know?  But it’s the one thing in the whole world that I could always count on.  It’s the only thing I’ve ever known that was true.  So please, put the gun away.  Just put it away.  We’ll figure it out, Dean, we’ll find another way, you and me.  We always do.”

Okay I feel like this is going to be one of those scenes that I cry watching for years to come.  Because fuck.  After fifteen years they finally admit that not only did Dean protect Sam from Lucifer, but he protected him from John.  John.  On a par with Lucifer.

Dean and Sam have, for so many years, sacrificed themselves for the other.  Dean’s demon deal, Sam and the trials, every season they have fought to see who can die the quickest for the other.  But this?  This is them fighting to stop the violence, to stop from killing the big bad.  This is them growing, in our eyes, in real time.  Sam has always been able to get through to Dean when no one else had a prayer, but for Dean to listen, for Dean to take his words to heart, to stop the hunt for Sam, for their family, that’s how you know they do have free will.

(Btw Chuck’s eye effect when he dusted Amara was sick as fuck but I’m emo for my boys so.)

Chuck knows it’s a loss, he knows that his story has, once again, been thwarted by the boys making their own choices.  And he’s pissed, but in his anger, we get a bomb dropped on us.

“Spare me your contempt Castiel, the self-hating angel of Thursday.  You know what every other version of you did after “gripping him tight and raising him from perdition”?  They did what they were told.  But not you.  Not the one off the line with a crack in his chassis.”

Are you fucking kidding me?

Also, just worth bringing up this one as well:

Every Castiel pulled Dean out of Hell.  Every one told him the same thing.  And yet, immediately, with this Cas and this Dean, something was different.  Because what has everyone seen about Cas, from the moment he met Dean?

And there’s our endgame people.  Laid out on the line.

But we ain’t done yet, fam.

So there you have it, our prep into the “monumental” 15x18.  I have spec on that, of course, but I think a novel is long enough for this.

What to take away: Dean’s rage was always Chuck’s plan, they do have free will, their love for each other, for their family, is what will stop Chuck’s control, Death is about to come back with a vengeance, Cas’ deal is at play, and, most importantly, Castiel and Dean Winchester are a blind spot for Chuck, something he has never, not once, controlled.
