I find it remarkable the extent to which everything in Buffy season 2 just kind of...works. Spike works. Drusilla works. Angel losing his soul works. The weird fucked-up love triangle between Spike, Drusilla, and Angel works. The metaphorical representation of a guy changing after sex works. Giles's dark past works. Oz works. Oz's relationship with Willow works (regardless of Willow's canonical sexual orientation later on). Oz being a werewolf works. Kendra works (notwithstanding her silly accent). The brutal murder of Jenny Calendar works (no matter how tired of a cliché the 'women in refrigerators' trope became). The Judge works. Killing the Judge with a rocket launcher after he boasts about no weapon forged being able to kill him works. Everyone turning into their Halloween costumes works. Buffy killing Angel works. The horror works without detracting from the comedy; the comedy works without detracting from the horror. Even the weird fling between Xander and Cordelia works. I feel like this was kind of "peak" Buffy. It was never as good after this.
