Riley telling Buffy how "mysterious" she is and how that's part of why he likes her, cause she's a puzzle piece that needs to be put together, something intriguing cause it's unknown. He doesn't KNOW her or UNDERSTAND her. And this whole premise carries on throughout their whole relationship. What a contrast from Spike, who literally tells her that he doesn't love her because she's UNATTAINABLE, that it has nothing to do with HIM. "I love what you are. What you do. How you try. I've seen your kindness, and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand, with perfect clarity, exactly what you are."

He knows her!!! He sees her!!!! Flaws and all!!!!!!! And he loves her!!!!!!!!!

xander having an obsessive crush on buffy and being constantly judgy and weird about her all the time is such a shame because the few times they let them be normal friends their dynamic was top tier. like in episodes where just the two of them have to work together to figure something out and they actively make each other stupider. it's delightful.

i didn’t really get that whole attack dog relationship thing folks were posting about a few months ago but then i watched that scene in btvs 5x20 where buffy has the cult captain held hostage in the basement of the convenience store they’re hiding out in and she’s interrogating him by herself but spike is also in the room not saying anything just lurking in the back watching them talk. he doesn’t need to say anything cause just his presence is a threat. buffy obviously is also very threatening but there are things that she won’t do but spike will. and she knows that and she allows him to be there in the room with her. and i was like oh……i get it now

the fact that buffy's acceptance of spike is so closely tied to her acceptance of herself is so fucking important and people will really dismiss that with a bunch of half assed media analysis like do you think they realize their comprehension sucks so bad

Obsessed w Joyce Summers’ wilful ignorance. Buffy’s speech to her in becoming asking her ‘what did you think was going on? How many times did you have to wash blood out of my clothes’. The implications that the truth was spelled out right in front of her but she had gotten so good at closing her eyes. How many times was Joyce involved in vampire activity and then she immediately rolled over and ignored it? Joyce knowing that Buffy was sneaking out, was fighting, was doing something, but choosing to live in ignorance. For what reason? To cling to the last remnants of a normal life? The belief that maybe if she ignored it, it would go away? More than that, she’s living in Sunnydale!! The horrors are literally everywhere and this woman is covering her eyes and ears and going lalala and it somehow works??? Imagine successfully ignoring the fact you are stuck in the horror genre for two whole years by gaslighting yourself. Joyce Summers the woman you are.
