I have too much to put here. Much of it the same as what you see elsewhere. Far too young. Far too talented. Far too many memories.
She was an important part of my childhood, with her first major role on The Adventures Of Pete & Pete. Then of course as Dawn on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I have vivid memories of the fandom *hating* her character since Day One and I always found her a really welcome foil to the supernatural stuff. Michelle also gave SMG a lot to play off of and could really turn on a dime emotionally.
I became DEEPLY ... angry? Resentful? to when they tried to make her into a sex symbol, with movies like Eurotrip or her MAXIM cover shoot. She seemed like such a CHILD. Like, perpetually. I know she was in her 20s but she was still a child TO ME and still seems that way even as I type this. Forever sixteen.
She'd looked unwell these last few years and, cowardly observer as I am, worried about her health amid speculations, just like everyone else.
Rest easy, lady. You will be sorely missed - but not forgotten.

"I love what you neglected to do with the place"
Joyce is so funny. I love that her and Spike get along and that Buffy trusts Spike to keep Dawn and Joyce safe.

I was reminded of Spike and Joyce's friendship. We all know why Spike loves hanging around Joyce but then the question popped into my head of "why does Joyce like Spike" we know it's frequent enough to "always had a nice cuppa for me" but Joyce never says why when she knows he's a Vampire that tried to kill Buffy in the past.
THEN I remember that Joyce works at a gallery for antiques, and was seemingly drawn to a really fucking creepy one enough to put it in her house. And it hits me, Spike is a creepy antique that Joyce can interact with. One that she can gain first hand knowledge of the past, or extract wisdom from even if it's only about a Passions storyline.

the moment where spike brings joyce flowers fucks me up so much. because. he liked her. she treated him like a person. something maybe no one else had ever done for - decades. longer. he had a bad break-up and she gave him cocoa. made awkward small talk. she didnt act like he was a freak. so he went to her grave. helped her grieving child try to resurrect her. he looked after her daughters. he didn't like seeing summers women take it so hard on the chin. he just - he liked joyce.

Can't stop thinking about how in Helpless Buffy having been let down by her father is absolutely desperate to feel like a child, to feel like she's actually being looked after and cared for and is practically begging Giles as her de facto father figure to step in and take her to the ice show, to stop treating her as the slayer for one night, only for him to immediately betray her. Not only that but he does so by giving her exactly what she wants and makes her an ordinary girl only for it to not matter because EVEN THEN there's no escape from murder and mayhem and saving her own mother because no one will ever save HER.
I can't believe she even has an inner child in The Weight of the World, that little pigtailed girl must have been buried so so so deep after that night.

who else has ever been personally victimized by season five episode sixteen of buffy the vampire slayer The Body. you know the one. the episode with no non-diegetic music. the episode with the major character death. the episode with the incredibly poorly timed title sequence. the episode that perfectly showcases how different people process grief and develops all its characters to the next level simply by showing us the both the big and little ways they react to this kind of pain. (yknow. buffy with the staying strong for everyone else and blaming herself. xander with the wall punching and quietness but still trying to make jokes. willow with the changing outfits and searching so hard for something she CAN control. anya with the trying so hard to comprehend something she went so long without having to understand. giles with the taking care of everything.) the episode thats one of only two buffy the vampire slayer episodes to be a featured article on wikipedia. the episode that might be the best done piece of television i’ve ever seen. the episode that had me nauseous cause i was crying that hard. you know the one.

I love that in 2x22, after Buffy and Spike killed that vampire in front of Joyce, and Joyce asked what was going on, Buffy looked at Spike. The way we look at people when we don't know what to do, and want their silent thoughts, or to seek strength. Buffy had literally just formed an uneasy alliance with Spike less than an hour before, and yet when it came to whether or not to reveal her true self to her mother, to possibly change their entire relationship, Buffy still looked to Spike for advice or strength. It was like from the very get-go, she trusted him. She might not have consciously realized it, but she did.
