targeted boycotts are as we know the most efficient and this isn’t me calling for a boycott, but to keep people informed below the cut are lists of kpop artists with affiliations to labels mentioned on zionistsinmusic on twitter
UMG (under an american umbrella label it owns or has joint shares in highup ent [kor releases only], yg ent [bp kor releases only], the black label [somi and taeyang's kor releases only]; under capitol music group it owns or has joint shares in sm ent; under republic it owns or has joing shares in big hit [txt kor releases only], jype [twice, skz, and itzy's kor releases only], under universal music japan it has u-cube a "joint venture with" cube ent, virgin music > republic records > used as an imprint for txt jp releases; through third party distribution umg is affiliated with yuehua ent) - 4minute, apink, ateez, beast, bigbang, blackpink, boys republic (actually managed by umg), btob, bts, dean, everglow, snsd, infinite, iu, iz*one, kep1er, lim youngwoong, loona (japan), miss a (since 2012), monsta x, nct 127, p1harmony, psy (since 2012), rainbow, stray kids, shinee, somi, stayc, super junior, t-ara, the rose, triples, tri.be, twice, txt, wonder girls, xikers, and zerobaseone
note: a lot of these have (south korea) next to the name, i don’t know if that means they only have a deal for that country because other artists like stray kids and lim youngwoong don’t have that specification
REPUBLIC (owned by umg) - itzy, nayeon, nmixx, stray kids, txt, tri.be, twice, vcha
SONY (owns columbia, wakeone, dreamcatcher company; distributes modhaus, chrome ent, kq ent, starship, top media, wakeone, wm ent) - riize, ive, ateez, bts, brown eyed girls, wjsn, crayon pop, dreamcatcher, everglow, exid, monsta x's i.m (astrisked, can't find why), kep1er, lim youngwoong, stayc, tfn/t1419, the rose, triples, wings, xikers, zerobaseone
COLUMBIA (owned by sony) - ateez, ive (usa), kep1er, p1harmony, stayc, triples, treasure (usa), xikers, zerobaseone
VIRGIN (owned by umg) - nct 127, shinee (japan)
WARNER (through warner records it owns or has shares in sm [aespa kor releases only]; included in their international labels is warner music korea which is an international copyright holder and distributor for brand new music [younite, ab6ix, as one, eluphant, miss s] and keystone ent [blank2y]) - aespa (outside of sk), b1a4, bigbang, cherry bullet, choi junhee/choi seoah/juniel (taiwan and japan), cn blue, day6, ft island, got7, iu, jyj, kep1er, loossemble, loona, p1harmony, sf9, twice
ATLANTIC (owned by warner) - got7, iu, kep1er, loossemble, p1harmony, sf9
as always if any of this information is incorrect or outdated, please feel free to correct me in a reblog or an ask and i'll update the information in this post. i'll try to keep up with any new companies that are brought up on the twitter account mentioned at the beginning of this post. i'm not here to call for a boycott of every artist mentioned here because i don't feel i am in the position to do so, but i'm not discouraging you from choosing to do so. in fact i encourage you to listen to these artists unofficially at the very least.
i'm not sure the extent to which these companies get revenue from these artists, i don't know if it's just streams or if other things like merch sales and youtube views contribute but quite a few of these artists' companies are being boycotted currently or in the near future anyway, so i would suggest you not buy any merch or watch youtube videos officially from them. this post has more info on downloading music, youtube videos (with subtitles), and the boycotts i mentioned so i hope you all will check that out too. tris @bandzboy has also been posting about and sharing twitter posts about zionism in music, especially in the kpop industry so i suggest you check out her blog as well

We got Married - Who is STARDOLL?
Masterlist Here.
TW: Cursing, stalkers(sasaengs), sexual themes, more to follow
Taglist: @lisaswifey
Tumblr media
STARDOLL is a 6 member girl group who debuted on July 14, 2012 under JYP. Their concept is feminine with aggressive music/notes similar to a boy groups.
They debuted with a lot of foreign members, being one of the first groups who had members of different races and backgrounds. They weren't easily liked and supported as other groups dominated and their music easily had lyrics mocking and talking about the stereotypes of women and the industry.
Roman is the face of the group, she was adopted from America by Park Jin Young(JYP) himself at the age of 10. She was bold and intelligent and when he met her on the street he immeditaly wanted to adopt her because he saw her talent. She was a musical prodigy, composing, producing, and writing all their music and other groups since the age of 12.
STARDOLL gained Global popularity in 2015 when Roman went back to America and participated on a rap compeition program. And won. She shocked fans and everyone around the world because she was a a vocal of her group and she proved herself to be one of the best rappers in the world. Since then, she's released 2 rap albums and even won Rap Album of the year at the GRAMMYs in 2017. STARDOLL went from being a disrespected group in Korea to being one of the most highly respected groups in Korea winning awards, dominating the charts, and others are scared of them.
They took a break from 2021-2023 and have been back to being active since. The members have since left JYP and have all signed new contracts under BigHit Entertainment under HYBE where they will continue on their Journey in the industry.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE MEMBERS:
Dasha is the leader, she is Chinese-Austrailian and is a great writer. Many trainees were intimidated by her during trainee years becasue she is very serious. She's very close with members of APINK and BtoB.
Jade is the main vocal, and is Egyptian and Yemeni descent. She's from South Shields, UK, and has written for a lot of other girl groups. She is also the oldest member.
Yena is the main dancer and is from Korea. She was a trainee under JYP for 9 years before she debuted at the age of 16. She has choreographed for her group along with other JYP artists.
Kimmi is from Bejing, China and has been singing since the age of 4. She is a highly trained opera singer and has done many musical.
JJ was a child star in South Korea, making her debut at the age of 8 in a popular kdrama. She was signed under JYP and trained as an idol and was specifically picked out by Roman because they were friends and JJ defended her against other bullies in the company.
Roman was adopted from America. She's mixed with Mexican/Irish blood and is known as the language freak. She speaks 9 languages and is currently learnign her 10th. She has a photogenic memory which helps her memorize and write her music. Her best friends are Taemin from SHINee and Jungkook from BTS.

not everyone old is 2nd gen
just for the kpop girlies that see anyone OLDER THAN 25 and immediately categorize them as 2nd gen. STAWP PLS. know ur culture.
Just bc they've got 5 years under their belt does NOT mean they're 2nd gen. CMON PPL.
There's actually periods of CULTURAL SHIFTS (characterized by music show formats/structures, changing markers of 'success', structures of songs, pop culture at the time, technology development aka SNS, styling/HMU, methods of promo (aka variety shows) and debut year vs heyday years) that designate the DIFFERENT ERAS.
(another indicator is military enlistment timing, but that's wacky now given the variety of age debuting now)
GEN BREAKDOWN BELOW:
2nd gen: 2005-2009
Significant moments: this essentially encapsulates what that era was like (the end-of-year award show collabs to end ALL EOY award shows collabs; you wont ever see such glorious unhinged shit like this again lmaooo)
GROUPS representative: SuJu, SHINee, 2PM/2AM, B2ST, 4Minute, KARA, T-ara, SNSD, Brown Eyed Girls, Big Bang, 2NE1 , MBLAQ, Wonder Girls, Secret
EXAMPLE: Debut yr VS Heyday yrs: TVXQ debuted in 2003, but I wrote 2005 bc with the combination of other groups in 05-06 is when the golden era really started to establish itself in popularity domestically and internationally.
How do they promote? Shows like Star King, Strong Heart, Star Golden Bell, Happy Together (in the sauna), Family Outing, Dream Team (and Xmen if we're going back 1st-2nd gen mix). TV Variety shows are the bread! and! butter! of whether your group will make or break it in the industry. You gotta get on these shows, you gotta be funny and witty, you gotta make an impression to get your name out there! There's several idols who've talked about nervously needing to do well in their debut on xmen or star king, and feeling like they had to impress Kang Hodong (etc). That's bc there was barely any other way to promote. Idols of this time are known as all-around entertainer (manneung entertainer), bc they had to do it all, e.g. leeteuk, eunhyuk, wooyoung, sunny, sooyoung, yuri, jo kwon, daesung
2.5 gen: 2010-2012
Truly like middle children, 2.5 gen groups debuted/worked in that amorphous time where times were in transition. They're like millennials, old enough to know cassette tapes, but young enough to know the first smartphone.
GROUPS representative: SISTAR, INFINITE, BTOB, APINK, EXID, VIXX, BAP, miss A, B1A4, Teen Top
REMEMBER WHEN: there was a huge online fanwar, INTENSE competition btwn EXO and BAP for the Rookie of the Year award from MAMA, fans were absolutely. incensed! Voting day and night, creating voting strategies, accusing the others of rigging/cheating, and when the time came....... Busker Busker won. LOL. International fans were dumbfounded, me included HAHAH. But we didn't know that busker busker was/is a HIT in SK.
How do they promote? 2.5 groups start not appearing on Strong Heart/Star King/Star Golden Bell as much; that's how I differentiate from 2nd and 2.5 gen (and it's WHY there is a 2.5 gen) bc you don't see 2.5 groups on those older shows that were dominated by 2nd gen groups. Like, Kang Hodong wouldve loved btob on star king, and they were on, but star king was over the hill at that point. The shift in these variety shows as promo starts here.
3rd gen: 2012-2017
Significant moments: korean news channels characterized the leaders in this era as "EBS", an acronym (it's an educational TV news channel's name) to summarize EXO, BTS, Seventeen (that's why I put exo here not in 2.5)
GROUPS representative: EBS (above), Twice, Oh My Girl, Mamamoo, Red Velvet, BlackPink
SNS: technology CHANGED RAPIDLY! We got Vlives, we got expansion of ways for idols to connect and directly speak to fans
HEYDAY: these are the groups enjoying their HEYDAY now! As in, they've got the experience, the money, the established fandom, and the respect-on-their-name (cough seniority cough)
How do they promote? We start seeing something call VLive, where fans can watch their own idol on their phone via a livestream, leaning into the individual parasocial connection. There's less Strong Heart and Star King, and more emphasis on the creation AND expansion of groups' OWN variety content. Instead of relying on variety shows (aka TV), they now can use youtube and create their own variety shows. Also, SNS starts!
4th gen: 2018-2024, WE ARE HERE CURRENTLY-
Significant markers: SNS era: the ACCESS is wild, online fan meetings, 1:1 fan calls (!?!?!!)
GROUPS representative: NCT, Stray Kidz, ATEEZ, GIDLE, IVE, Le Serafim, NewJeans (honestly I'd almost put them in 5th gen given how young theyve started, how far they could still go)
EXAMPLE: nct debuted 2017 but didnt really hit their public stride until a few years later, so they're currently in their heyday now in this gen era. and young as hell SHEESH.
How do they promote? Idols are allowed to/get to create their OWN social media accts now! SNS is heavily factored in when considering promotion and business strategy. Individual and group content now is a MUST: youtube, tiktok, insta, weibo, douyin, all the apps. Promotions emphasize internet methods rather than tv variety shows, so unless they have a variety-trained/-passionate member, it's much rarer to see kpop groups guest on a show. VLive unfortunately dies and we see the rise of Weverse, and BTS/kpop global recognition, and along with them: the marvelization of kpop (cough hybe-zation cough)
5th gen: 2024(?)-? BUT RAPIDLY MOVING HERE?
depending on how culture shifts and how technology develops, we could be going into a new era soon (now??), though as I've emphasized, it's more than just time and debut year, generations are marked by cultural shifts (whether it's environmental, music genre sound, or fandom practice).
GROUPS representative: TWS, Baby Monster, (idk anymore they're too young for me) I believe ppl look to/label NewJeans as the forerunner for the future (they were even on TIME mag)
How do they promote? Unfort, the trend of kpop idols being trained to be influencers rather than entertainers is real heavy right now, and might get more emphasized. Again this is a product of the changing times: as mentioned in the 3rd gen point about variety shows not being their main avenue of promos- idols now just aren't trained as much on variety skills bc they can get their popularity/recognition in other ways. Like you'll still see IVE on Knowing Bros, bc variety shows are still critical to the general korean populace's recognition meter, but they aren't there for the variety factor. Whereas older gen idols had to be variety-trained (that's why so many of them also work as show MC's now bc they have the skillset) bc variety shows were the main way to get their names out there and make sure their group doesn't fail. Nowadays, it's possible to focus promo online and not have the group fail, but it wasn't back then.

you know what i miss most about old kpop? the variety. like variety content.
its so much more a focus on presenting a perfect image now and doing short little tiktok things and lives and stuff but like....there just dont seem to be as many genuinely hilarious and entertaining shows and clips. maybe thats why i latched onto onf so hard is because their content reminds me of old variety and theyre all very....silly. seventeen too cause gose is very much a call back to it
but like,,,sandeul beating the shit out of baro with leeks, lee joon ripping his pants open on television, all of infinites ranking king, girls day on running man, jo kwon in general, btob and vixx in those little youtube shows they had (i dont remember at all what they were called lmao), we got married iconic haunted house episode, shinees hello baby, one fine day, teen top fly kicking each other into another dimension, baps killing camp. uee flinging her ponytail extension off her head while dancing on running man. i remember like. in tears laughing over so much of it but idk. im sure there is stil very good content out there but its just....ah :')) this is an "old man shakes his fist as the sky" kind of moment
infinite and apinks BIRTH OF A FAMILY fjdksalfhdsakj i cried
