Synopsis: The boys find out Yeji has asthma after an asthma attack during a show

Stepping off stage, Yeji wheezed as she leaned against the dressing room wall. The concert wasn't over yet but she was struggling to breath, her chest tightening with every breath.

A short break might have fixed things, Yeji grasping her inhaler in her palm tightly. The manager stood by the door, concern on his features as she wheezed out.

"Do you need the hospital?" The manager asked.

"N-no," Yeji wheezed, "I just need to rest,"

The door to the dressing room opened, the other members stepping inside. Hyunsik was at her side in an instant, one hand on her shoulder as he spoke.

"Are you okay?" He asked.

"I..," Yeji wheezed again, coughing.

"What's wrong with her?" Eunkwang asked.

"She's asthmatic," Hyunsik stated, "She needs to go to the hospital,"

Quickly, Yeji shook her head but couldn't get any words out. Minhyuk grabbed a chair, Hyunsik sitting her down quickly. Yeji coughed more, administering her inhaler again.

"I didn't know she had asthma," Ilhoon whispered.

"Neither did I," Peniel frowned as he looked at Changsub.

"I saw her inhaler a few times..," Changsub mumbled, "I didn't think it was this bad,"

"Is it because she was sick lately?" Sungjae spoke up, eyes wide, "She had a cold-"

Yeji glared at the maknae, Hyunsik giving the female member a pointed look. If she could breath properly right now, he'd probably be chewing her ear off.

"We can take you to the hospital," The manager spoke, "The rest of you need to go back on stage,"

Yeji wheezed, "I'm fine-"

"You're going to the hospital and we'll see you later tonight," Hyunsik held her hands tightly, "Okay?"

Unable to argue, Yeji simply nodded before the male stood up and gestured to the manager.

Ateez's 9th member: Ivy's friends outside of the group

Chan, Changbin and Felix (Stray Kids):

Although she gets along well with all of the Stray Kids members, these three have a special place in her heart. She got to know them through Kingdom but has met them prior to that as well.

Ivy remembers Chan always greeting her so friendly whenever they ran into each other and how he always seems so genuinely interested when asking her how she is doing and if everything is going well. Little things like these made her appreciate him a lot and see him as a true friend.

With Changbin it’s different. She knew him way before Kingdom due to Wooyoung being his best friend. These two are the reason the poor girl has grey hair. Whenever Changbin visited, Wooyoung and him made it their mission to annoy Ivy, which they succeeded in. Although she loves Changbin just as much as Wooyoung, she told Chris all about his behavior which he got scolded for by the rest of Stray Kids – oops.

Felix is an angel. His gentle being is what has Ivy whipped for this boy (in a total platonic way). Whenever she needs to unwind and relax, she loves talking or hanging out with Felix. He makes her feel so happy and loved, she doesn’t know how he does it but he always manages to bring some sunlight in her sometimes so dark and cloudy world.

Kevin and Jacob (The Boyz):

Not only are they both Canadian but they both share some similarities with the poison princess.

Kevin is so sassy and sarcastic; Ivy loves how well he keeps up with her mood swings and short-tempered outbursts. He outsasses her and makes sure that she gets her act together – which she is super thankful for.

Jacob on the other hand, like Felix, is the one that brings her calmness and shines sunlight through the thick dark clouds in her head. She is mesmerized by how easy it is for him to stay calm whenever she is mad and seems to know exactly how to calm her down. To her, Jacob is the angel on her left shoulder and Kevin is the angel disguised as the devil on her right.

Peniel and Eungkwan (BTOB):

She wouldn’t really consider them friends but more as family. Ivy surprisingly got very close with these two as they showed her so much support during her hardships in Kingdom. They always had nice words for her that gave her the push she needed.  

Peniel sees Ivy as his little sister – he hasn’t seen his family in so long but Ivy weirdly feels like she is a part of that close circle and he appreciates that. She is like a little fairy to him that needs a lot of protection.

Eungkwan is smitten with the tiny but icy human being. To him she is much more than she gives herself credit for which is why he always make sure to praise her for the things she does. It hurts him how low she tends to think of herself – he made it his mission to always cheer her up and push her ego just the right amount.

Dino (Seventeen):

Funny enough, Ivy used to be a student at his dad’s dancing school and basically grew up with Dino. They have a cute friendship and are often seen having random dance-offs in the corner of whichever venue they are at. Although Dino could easily outdance Ivy, he always makes sure to let her win their random challenges. Dino is also the first to offer helping her whenever she is stuck with a choreography. And even though he doesn’t really know the choreographies most of the time (cause they are created by Ateez before a comeback, duh), he would learn any dance for Ivy in order to help her out. Carats also always keep an eye out for her at concerts because it is not rare to see Ivy and Dino’s dad dancing somewhere in the crowd showing support to their favorite maknae (sorry Jongho).

People Ivy wants to get close with:

Mark (NCT): Ivy has made eye-contact with him a few times and he always smiled her way but besides blushing and some awkward stares, nothing has happened between them.

Hwiyoung and Taeyang (SF9): When she saw their performances on the Kingdom stage she was mesmerized. To Ivy they are so god-like and ethereal, she does not dare even looking their way. She respects them so much, she feels like she would bother them if she ever tried starting a conversation. If only she knew that Hwiyoung is a big fan of her and always talks about her talents to the others (which also has the rest of SF9 intrigued).

Youngji (soloist): Ivy just really wants to get close to Youngji as she thinks they would get along perfectly. She just adores her. Periodt. (She also might want to get drunk with her but you didn’t hear that from me).

Bobby (Ikon): He must be the cutest idol Ivy has ever laid her eyes on. To her Bobby is so adorable but she also admires how he performs on stage. His rap is something that Ivy wishes she could just copy and paste cause it’s just SO GOOD. She loves Bobby and gets only positive vibes of him which is why she wants to get close with him.

Yunho & Team Mayfly - Exhaustion

Yunho knew his limits. He really did. As the eldest member of the ‘99 line he did everything he could to fly under the radar, keeping up his low maintenance reputation. His hyungs had their hands full with everything and everybody else so there was no reason for him to be an additional burden on them.

Ateez had been busy for months straight now. Yunho went right from shooting Imitation into a new comeback with all of the associated promotional activities, and of course, Kingdom which had been a roller coaster for everyone.

Everybody was silently exhausted from the nonstop workload but kept their head down. Nobody commented on the dark circles under Hongjoong’s eyes or the way Yeosang fell asleep on the way to and from every schedule. They just had to keep it up for a few more weeks before their comeback and Kingdom both concluded and they’d be able to take a well deserved break.

This week the team was split up so Hongjoong and Jongho hadn’t been at the schedules with the rest of the group. Instead Yunho, Seonghwa, Yeosang, San, and Wooyoung were working with Peniel from BtoB and a few members of Stray Kids on a dance performance. It was their third day and, while some of the Team Mayfly dance line members were still learning the choreography, Yunho had grasped most of it within the first day, committing it all to memory half way through the second day. As such Yunho had taken it upon himself to help the dancers who were struggling with the choreography.

“It’s tricky, but you almost have it” Yunho said with a smile, reassuring the Stray Kids maknae as he watched I.N practice the chorus. Peniel had given them 20 minutes to practice independently and work through any troublesome spots before completing one final run through. If all went well they’d be able to take an hour for lunch before returning for an afternoon practice session. Yunho had already agreed to grab lunch with San, Yeosang, and Wooyoung but was thinking that it may be better for him to stick around and take a quick nap during their break. While the day had started off normally enough, over the last hour he’d started feeling unusually tired, chalking it up to the physically grueling rehearsal.

So when Peniel announced that it was time for the full run through Yunho was relieved, knowing he’d have an hour to kick his feet up and return as good as new. He got himself quickly to his starting position in front of Wooyoung, ready to run the choreography that had already become second nature to him.

They had gotten through the first verse and chorus when Yunho began to feel…well he wasn’t sure what he was feeling. Whereas a moment before the music had been loudly reverberating through the studio, it now sounded quiet and muffled as if somebody had plunged the speaker under the water. He looked around confused, wondering if anybody else seemed to notice the sudden shift. Not only did nobody seem to notice, but they all seemed to be moving in slow motion.

Yunho couldn’t quite figure out the tempo of the music, which was alarming to him. He’d been rehearsing the same song on repeat for the last few days but he felt like this was his first time ever hearing it.

Don’t panic. He thought to himself. This will pass and you’ll pick up the beat in just a second. But a second came and went, followed by two and three seconds. Yunho was so lost that he failed to notice all of the eyes that had turned and focused on him. He also didn’t notice Felix running to turn the music off or Peniel standing in front of him.

“Yunho-ah? What happened?” Yunho flinched as Peniel placed a hand on his shoulder, drawing him from the stupor he had been in.

“Sorry, I think I forgot the choreo” Yunho said, swallowing thickly as he noticed Seonghwa standing wide eyed behind Peniel. Clearing his throat he attempted to speak but his voice sounded distant. “I’m sorry,” he said, taking a step back in a failed attempt to steady himself, instead bumping into Minho who quickly grabbed him by the shoulders. “Sorry about that,” Yunho repeated, his words slurring slightly. “Perhaps would it be okay if I sat down for a second?”

Taking one look at his dongsaeng as the color drained from his lips Seonghwa swooped in, grabbing Yunho under the arms and helping him have a seat on the floor before he collapsed, which seemed less like a possibility and more like an inevitability at this point.

Peniel was just as quickly down on the floor, kneeling in front of Yunho, who couldn’t quite get his eyes to focus. “I’m really sleepy” he mumbled as he listed significantly to the left before being caught by Minho.

“Alright, how about you lie back? That’s better.” Minho said softly, easing Yunho down on his back as Seonghwa placed Wooyoung’s hoodie beneath his head.

Seonghwa soon took Minho’s place, brushing Yunho’s bangs from his face. “Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling well?”

“I wasn’t…I mean…I was fine, I swear…” Yunho’s breath was picking up too much for Seonghwa’s liking.

“Okay, it’s okay. Just relax, Yunho-ah” Seonghwa said as calmly as he could as Yunho’s eyes drifted closed.

“You’re a beat and a half behind Yunho, pick it up” Wooyoung shouted as they finished the chorus. Wooyoung was surprised that Yunho was making so many mistakes. This was the first time since they began learning the choreography that he’d seen Yunho struggle.

Yunho didn’t appear to have heard Wooyoung. “Yunho, come on” he called again, this time noticing how confused Yunho looked before he stopped completely, staring blankly ahead as he swayed unsteadily on his feet. The others continued to dance but their eyes wandering to Yunho, unsure what was happening.

“Cut the music” Wooyoung yelled out to nobody specifically but Felix was quick to reach for the computer and pause the track. Peniel was the first to approach Yunho, trying to figure out what was going on.

“He’s going to pass out” Wooyoung said quietly, finally registering what was happening, but nobody seemed to hear him.

“Hyung, he’s about to pass out, grab him” Wooyoung repeated, much louder this time as Yunho stumbled back into Minho. This time Seonghwa heard him and jumped into action, helping Yunho to the floor.

The rest of the team watched on in horror as Peniel, Seonghwa, and Minho took care of Yunho.

“He was just helping me and he seemed fine…” I.N said, reiterating the fact that this had seemingly come out of nowhere.

“He’ll be fine” Felix responded to his maknae, trying not to add to the alarm that everybody was feeling.

“Wooyoung” Seonghwa called, waving him over. “Give me your hoodie for under his head, please.” Wooyoung instantly unzipped his sweatshirt, handing it to his hyung. “And call manager hyung to let him know what happened” Seonghwa added as he ran his fingers over Yunho’s forehead and through his hair in an attempt to comfort him.

“Alright guys, he doesn’t need an audience” Peniel said, obviously trying to lighten the mood. “Head to lunch, be back in an hour.” Minho took the opportunity to hop up and corral the rest of the team out the door before popping his head back in to speak with Peniel, Seonghwa, and Wooyoung.

“Is there anything I can do?” Minho asked, receiving a shake of the head from Wooyoung who was on the phone with Ateez’s manager.

“Thanks, Minho, just keep an eye on the rest of them and we’ll let you know once we know anything” Peniel added. Minho only nodded and closed the door behind him.

Within the next 15 minutes Ateez’s manager arrived, finding Seonghwa on the ground near Yunho’s head, covering his eyes with his hand to shield him from the harsh overhead lighting, Wooyoung sitting cross legged with Yunho’s feet slightly elevated in his lap as he absentmindedly played with the seam of Yunho’s pants, and Peniel a few steps away on the phone with Eunkwang, trying to figure out what to do.

The manager sighed as he knelt down next to Yunho, rubbing his cheek with his thumb. “Open your eyes for me, jagi” he said softly, causing Yunho to stir.

Once Yunho had woken up as much as he could for the time being, the manager asked Yunho what had happened, dismayed that Yunho truly had no idea. By all accounts he had been fine prior to the run through before becoming dizzy and weak.

“I called your doctor on the way here and he’d like for you to go to the hospital, Yunho-ah” their manager announced. Yunho groaned audibly and Peniel grabbed his hand.

“It’s probably best to be checked out Yunho. Hopefully they can get you back on your feet quickly” Peniel responded, trying to make Yunho feel a bit better.

It took a few more minutes to get Yunho up and to the car. The manager thanked Wooyoung for his help and sent him off to lunch then turned to Peniel to discuss logistics.

“Hyung, I don’t want to go to the hospital” Yunho said sadly to Seonghwa. Seonghwa sighed and nodded, laying a hand over Yunho’s forehead.

“I know you don’t, Yunho-ah. You don’t feel like you’re running a temperature though, so hopefully you won’t have to stay long” Seonghwa responded, moving his hand from Yunho’s face to fix his hair.

“Ready to go?” The manager had wrapped up his conversation with Peniel and had turned his attention back to Yunho. Yunho shrugged before responding.

“I can come back tomorrow, right?” Yunho’s eyes looked even more like a sad puppy’s than usual.

“Yunho…” the manager started before being cut off.

“And the performance, I’ll be able to perform?” Yunho persisted.

“Yunho, please don’t do this…” the manager said, not sure how to respond.

“You know the choreography, you’re ahead of most everybody else, including me” Peniel said with a chuckle. “Let the doctors figure this out and we’ll be here if and when you’re cleared” the team leader said decisively, closing the door so Yunho and the manager could be on their way.

Yunho knew his limits, which is why he was shocked to be told that all of this had been caused by exhaustion.

“Sometimes the body just has a way of telling you that you need some rest” the doctor said. “We’ll get you some fluids through an IV since you’re a bit dehydrated, and as long as you don’t develop a fever or any other symptoms over the next few hours I’ll get you discharged so you can get some rest at home.”

“And work…” Yunho said, making his manager’s eyes roll.

“We’ll play that by ear” the doctor responded from the doorway as he exited, which was not the answer that Yunho had been hoping for.

“They’re going to get your IV going, then you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to sleep. Are you sure you’ll be okay alone here?” Their manager had concerns about leaving Yunho by himself but with all the other members still at work and on different schedules they really didn’t have any better options.

“I’ll be fine, hyung, thank you. And I’m sorry again for all of this” Yunho said, his eyes cast down.

“What did I tell you before? No apologies necessary” the manager replied, patting Yunho gently on the head. “Just sleep, okay? I’ll call the nurses’ station in a couple hours to check on you.”

Yunho nodded, already feeling drowsy. By the time the nurse came to administer his IV he had already fallen asleep, waking up briefly only to fall asleep once she left the room again.

The next time Yunho woke up he was feeling much better. He was still tired but he wasn’t feeling so dizzy and his head felt far less heavy. He glanced up at his IV drip, finding it a bit less than half finished. He let out a disappointed sigh, knowing he’d have to stay for at least another few hours just to finish the bag, and that was assuming that he wasn’t running a fever and was deemed well enough to be discharged.

“I heard you scared the shit out of everyone.”

Yunho jumped at the deep voice coming from behind his back. He rolled over from his side to his back, suddenly realizing how sore he was, to find Mingi in the chair next to his bed.

“San said Yeosang cried” Mingi added. Yunho hasn’t seen Mingi in a few weeks. They had texted back and forth a few times since Mingi had gone on hiatus, but Yunho was concerned about bothering Mingi or reminding him too much of work and his work stressors. Between that and his busy schedule he hadn’t reached out to make plans to get together.

“When did you get here?” Yunho questioned groggily. “And how did you find out?”

“Maybe an hour ago? You were sleeping so I didn’t want to wake you” Mingi responded. “And San called me. He said that you got sick during practice and that you were here alone. So I told him I’d come sit with you. It’s not like I have anything better to do at the moment.”

“I’m not sick” Yunho said with a huff. “I’m just tired.”

Mingi smiled at that. He’d known Yunho for plenty long enough to know not to argue with him when he was this grumpy. “Alright, well if you’re just tired then go back to sleep, I’ll be here when you wake up again. You’ve still got a few more hours left on this drip anyhow.”

“Thanks for coming. I miss you” Yunho said as Mingi adjusted his blankets, pulling them back up to Yunho’s chin.

“I missed you too, Yunho” Mingi responded, ruffling Yunho’s hair, who was already out cold again.

“Normal temp, that’s what we like to see” the nurse said with a smile as she took the thermometer from Yunho’s mouth. “I’ll talk to the doctor about getting you discharged.”

Mingi and the manager thanked the nurse on Yunho’s behalf as he was already falling asleep again.

“I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him this exhausted” Mingi said, his voice laced with concern.

“He’s been working really hard. Too hard, probably. But you know how he is. He won’t listen to anyone that tells him to take it easy” their manager responded. “He said he was feeling fine until he…wasn’t anymore. But I’m relieved that it wasn’t more serious. Peniel said that Changsub has been laid up in bed for close to a week with something…”

Just then the doctor arrived with Yunho’s discharge papers, waking Yunho again as he closed the door behind him.

“You’re to stay on strict bed rest for the remainder of the evening and tomorrow” the doctor started. Yunho looked ready to argue but one glance from the manager dissuaded him from doing so. “As long as nothing changes I’ll allow you to return to work the day after tomorrow. Wooyoung, of all people, made sure that the apartment was quiet enough to keep Yunho asleep, still shaken after seeing him nearly collapse at practice.

“Please tell me if you need to take a break” Peniel responded firmly. “But it’s really unfair” he added, grabbing everybody’s attention. “Even after missing a day and a half of practice you still know this routine better than half of us.”

Everyone laughed at that, including Yunho, who was just relieved to be back with his team.

Back Door is one of the best Stray Kids songs (we'll know for sure when the bracket is done!), and has given us one of the greatest covers - BTOB's cover from Kingdom.

We're going to break down what makes this cover so great, and why the changes in BTOB's cover serve them better than the original would.

The changes:

They started by (nearly) completely changing the backing instrumentals. They replaced the driving bass line from the original with a much more laid back guitar riff. Stray Kids's version is constantly pushing to the next thing - the next line, verse, chorus, etc. - BTOB's version is more relaxed, almost sitting in the music itself.

Changsub takes Han's part of the first verse, but cuts Hyunjin's part to go straight to the pre-chorus. This creates a cohesive opening to the song, and leads to a very alluring chorus by Minhyuk. This is the only chorus we get until the end of the song, and is a far cry from the original.

In the original, the second verse is a quick rap verse from Changbin and Han followed the pre-chorus and chorus once again. BTOB has a rap verse, featuring two original raps from Peniel and Minhyuk, that is twice as long as the original second verse. Eunkwang then sings for the first time, blessing us with the pre-chorus, but skips the chorus straight into the bridge.

Here's what's interesting - BTOB keeps the first half of the bridge almost exactly the same as the original: the instrumental comes down, there's a ticking sound in both. However, the second half of the bridge builds so much more into the RUM PUM PUM PUM. Much of the BTOB cover seems to take inspiration from the bridge - more toned down instrumentals with a laid back vibe.

Stray Kids goes straight from the bridge into the last chorus, the coda, and then the instrumental outro. BTOB instead goes into another original rap from Peniel, the pre-chorus (with the best harmonies from Changsub and Eunkwang), and then into the chorus and coda. This is the only full original chorus we get from the cover, and it really delivers.

So, why did they make these changes?

The obvious reason - they are a smaller group (especially when performing this cover), with only two rappers and two incredible vocalists. Why not make some changes to highlight the vocal talent in BTOB? By emphasizing the melody of Han's opening rap, adding an additional pre-chorus, and keeping the melodic lines cohesive, BTOB leans into their vocal powerhouses.

Additionally, Peniel is so integral to the sound of BTOB as a group - listen to any BTOB song and you'll hear Peniel's distinctive sound and style pulling it all together. In giving Peniel and Minhyuk their own original raps the cover has a stronger BTOB sound instead of trying to imitate Stray Kids beat for beat. It's a cover afterall, and some of the best covers are transformational (more on that at a later date 😉).

Overall, the songs are best described as a party. The original is like going to a college block party and being in the throngs of partygoers; everyone's invited, bring friends of friends! BTOB's is a much more intimate, invite-only party; adult club, VIP. It's the kind of party where you slip away to a dark corner with someone special.

Wait what you said has me confused. Is there no Pentagon comeback now?

Nothing has been officially announced and the only hints we have are members talking about selection of songs for a new album at the fan concert. They don’t even hint at vague things like “see you soon” or whatever, probably because they don’t want to give false hope like last time. They have 7398338 songs in the vault, but Cube haven’t started doing their part yet as in no MV, jacket shoots, scheduling etc. For the time being I will say I still believe it’ll happen eventually, but clearly Cube aren’t feeling urgent about it. (They might still think they don’t have enough money to spend. They’re doing as little as possible from every aspect aside from Idle’s activities.)

For additional context, Cube haven’t announced anything officially for the future aside from idle’s world tour. Nothing has been said on what the next move is for Pentagon, BTOB, Lightsum, or of the two (!) groups they claimed they were going to debut this year.

They add to the end of every Jinho Phantom Singer article that “Pentagon will continue active activities in 2023”, without any elaboration on that, lmao.

As the manager spoke, Yeji couldn't stop her eyes from drooping. She had a modelling schedule the night before and didn't return to the dorm until one in the morning.

The seven other members sat around the table, they atleast looked a bit more rested than she did. Yeji sat between Hyunsik and Minhyuk, leaned back in her chair.

"We don't enourage public dating as it can cause damage to your images," One manager explained, "But you can date in secret,"

Yeji raised an eyebrow.

"Now, in saying this," Another spoke up, she looked like the leader of this team, "We are heavily discouraging dating within the group,"

Silence filled the room for a moment before Yeji couldn't help but burst into laughter.

Maybe it was the sleep deprivation but it was profoundly hilarious to her.

"Is something funny?" One man asked.

Yeji snorted, "You think I'd date any of these guys?"

A couple of giggles and chuckles filled the room, Minhyuk smiled from beside Yeji while she glanced around at her group. Even Hyunsik looked amused at her comment.

"We're glad to hear that," One smiled, "Now, we understand you all have needs and we won't discourage that, physical comfort can be-"

Yeji scrunched up her face in disgust, "Fuck off,"

"We all think of each other as siblings," Minhyuk spoke up.

"We understand," The lead manager smiled, "With that, this meeting is finished,"

The meeting group stood and bowed, leaving the room. Yeji slumped her head against the desk, yawning and closing her eyes. She was too sleep deprived for a meeting like this.

"I thought we weren't allowed to date at all," Ilhoon spoke up.

"Why?" Peniel asked, "Have someone in mind?"

"No," Ilhoon answered quickly before Yeji snorted.

"He likes Hayoon," She whispered into the table.

Ilhoon groaned, "You're annoying,"

"So are you," Yeji shot back as she sat up, "I'm tired, what's next?"

"Practice and recording," Eunkwang spoke as he stood up, "Let's go,"

Yeji groaned, slipping down in her seat until she was eye level with the table.
