HI!!!! Dana loves loves loves you all and I'm kissing every single one of you on the forehead for waiting for this chapter đ„ș most of you know that I caught a lovely plague, but on a more positive note, I got to spend more time writing hehe. WELL that aside, get ready for some ANGST babes!!!! No smut in this chapter (Y/N needs a break!) but there is some goooood fluff and a LITTLE bit of a spicy moment in there. Forgive me for another cliffhanger. I love you, thank you, and I can't wait to hear from you (and respond when I can feel my legs again!) đ
Previous Chapter // Next Chapter
Orange embers floated up into the darkened sky, mingling with the deep blue of the moonless night. Taehyung found the contrast of these two colors, fiery orange and velvet blue, striking. Something he wanted to capture in a still frame and hold onto forever, to revisit when everything felt hopeless and without purpose. Lost in thought, he hardly noticed the chatter around him, nor the chill Alaskan-July mist clinging to the material of his flannel. There was a deep ache starting in the muscles of his upper back and spider-crawling down through his shoulders and biceps, and when he used his hands to prod at the muscles in his arms, he realized he couldnât recall the last time he wasnât sore.Â
âTaehyung, brother. What do you think?â Taehyung was pulled out of his trance of staring at the roaring bonfire in front of him, turning his attention to one of the other Kodiak hybrids he worked with sitting on the log beside him, Andy.Â
âAbout what?â Taehyungâs voice was scratchy after not speaking for so long. He wasnât a fan of talking when there was nothing to say.Â
âYouâre a goddamn space cadet. We were talking about ghost stories, do you have any?â Caleb, Taehyungâs least favorite co-worker, rolled his eyes at him from across the bonfire.Â
âNo. I donât have any ghost stories,â Taehyung replied, a frown tugging on the corners of his mouth. âThis is what we choose to talk about after a double?â
âWhat else are we going to talk about? Itâs not like we have lives,â Andy pointed out, Taehyung snorting humorlessly and taking a swig from the lukewarm beer someone managed to smuggle into the plant. âOkay, Iâve got one. When I was working in the western plot for an overnight, I could have sworn I saw a woman in a nightgown by the lakeâŠâ
Taehyung zoned out again, the aftertaste of the beer turning sour on his tongue. He had heard Andyâs ghost stories a hundred times, and they lost all their luster over the years. Instead, he focused on finishing his beer and losing himself in the flames licking the sky, the scent of pine stuck in his nostrils.Â
He wondered if there ever would be anything else at all for him and the hybrids he was destined to work with to discuss. All there was to speak of was the dayâs work, the woods, and after a few cans of Pabst Blue Ribbonâ ghosts and things that go bump in the night. For once, Taehyung wanted to dig deeper. Was he really such a shell of a being? Was there nothing more than work? He dreamed of expression, though he was not a hybrid of many words.Â
âWas the ghost lady hot at least?â Someone drunkenly asked Andy, Taehyung furrowing his eyebrows. âMaybe she fell in love with you, Andy.â
The other Kodiak hybrids dissolved into tipsy laughter, Taehyung pulling his threadbare beanie further over his forehead, the fabric muffling sound from both sets of his ears.Â
âI think that would be nice,â Andy sobered up once the chuckles died down, Taehyung peering at him curiously. âThough in this life, none of us have time.â
âWhat do you mean?â Taehyung spoke up, apparently the only one confused as everyone else nodded seriously.Â
âFalling in love. It was never for us, Taehyung. You know that.â
âI donât know what youâre talking about,â Taehyung bristled, staring down his nose at the leopard hybrid, the feline hissing at him.
âItâs too early for this bullshit. You wanna live in denial? Be my guest. But stop with the shifty behavior. Itâs hurting Y/N,â Yoongi narrowed his eyes at Taehyungâs gritted teeth, not intimidated in the slightest that Taehyung had an inch or two of height on him.Â
Taehyungâs mouth dropped open, the color draining from his face, unable to come up with a response. As soon as Yoongi mentioned Y/Nâs feelings being hurt because of him, a shard of ice wedged itself in his heart. Shaking his head, Yoongi ran a hand through his long, inky locks, pushing past the frozen hybrid. All Taehyung could do was follow the movement of Yoongiâs spotted tail curling behind him with his vision slightly fuzzy.Â
âWhaâ Why would you say that Iâm in love with her? Isnât she with you and Seokjin?â
Yoongi stopped by the door, taking a deep breath. After that conversation, heâd need thirty minutes of Y/N holding him on the couch to calm him down.Â
âBro, itâs fucking obvious. Youâve been a jealous prick since you found out about us, which I can understand. Stop fucking growling at me, Iâm answering your question,â Yoongi crossed his arms over his chest, one of his ears twitching in agitation. âBefore that, it was written all over your face. Following her around like a shadow. You had a fist-fight with the wolf over her, when he flew off the handle last summer. And itâs all in your scent. Are you really in denial or just out-of-touch with your emotions, Taehyung?â
Shocked, Taehyung leaned against the wallpapered alcove across from the piano, his skin flashing with heat. Falling in love wasnât something Taehyung thought about much. Sure, he listened to countless songs about the sensation of falling for another, but he was a hybrid, not a human. A hybrid who was designed to be a workhorse, nothing more than that. Apparently, stuffed beneath his baser instincts, feelings he had never experienced before started to bloom when Y/N swept into his life.Â
âFor what itâs worth, she really cares about you, too. Way more than you think. She goes to every single one of your expos, finds rare records for you online, lets you take pictures of her when you think she isnât paying attention. She couldnât give a shit about your past. For fucks sake, she turned a linen closet into a dark room for you. Is that what this is about? You donât think thereâs a possibility that she could love you back?â
Taehyung flinched like he was slapped across the face. Yoongi sighed, thinking he had said enough. It wasnât his place to tell Taehyung how Y/N felt about him and the rest of the hybrids, but it would make things a hell of a lot easier. All he could do was nudge the Kodiak hybrid in the right direction so Y/N wouldnât look so sad whenever Taehyung would flee from her sight.Â
âJustâ think about it, okay? Iâm gonna get the coffee started before Hoseok complains,â Yoongi shoved his sheet music under his armpit, suddenly feeling sort of bad that he was the reason Taehyung looked like he was having a nervous breakdown. Mouth pressed into a line, Yoongi left the Kodiak hybrid in the music room, Taehyung gaping after him.Â
Perhaps he had been a little too harsh on the younger hybrid, but all of Yoongiâs instincts were screaming at him to protect Y/N. The instinct had only grown stronger since he claimed her as his mate, and sensing her gloom towards the odd situation between her and Taehyung had become unbearable. If he had to shove a few cold, hard truths down Taehyungâs throat for Y/Nâs sake, heâd do it time and time again. As he slouched down the stairs, his nose twitched, picking up the rich smell of roasted coffee beans, and brightening up, he caught a whiff of Y/Nâs jasmine lotion mingling with her natural scent. She must have beaten him to the kitchen that morning, and he was thankful that both the music room was soundproofed and Y/N had only human hearing.Â
She was by the island, an arm curled around Seokjinâs waist as he cut up some fruit in his pajamas. Yoongi snorted at the goofy print on the set, the pink pajamas stamped with cartoon puppies, one of Seokjinâs black ears twisting back at the sound. Cheek smushed against the side of Seokjinâs arm, Y/N looked back, catching Yoongiâs gaze and smiling sleepily. Even first thing in the morning, she was lovely, despite the fact that her hair was sticking up in several directions.Â
âMorning, angel! Weâre gonna make banana pancakes, wanna help?â Y/N asked, watching her leopard hybrid stroll into the kitchen, grinning when he booped her nose as he passed by.Â
âNo, I think you two have it covered. I wanted to start writing something for your next lesson,â Yoongi tapped the book of sheet music, Y/Nâs eyes sparkling with excitement.Â
âYouâre composing something new?â Y/N squeezed Seokjinâs waist, lips automatically parting as the jaguar hybrid fed her a slice of banana.Â
âIâm going to attempt to. Weâll see how it goes,â Yoongi settled on a barstool across from the other two, pausing when Y/N pushed something in front of him.Â
âHere, your coffee,â Y/N said proudly, butterflies soaring in his stomach when he glanced at the glass. âIced Americano, your favorite! I finally figured out the espresso machine!â
âAre you sure you figured it out on your own? That smirk on Seokjinâs face is sort of giving you away, silly girl.â
âUgh. Seokjinnie, you need to learn how to school your features,â Y/N complained, reaching up to tug on the dangling earrings hanging from the jaguar hybridâs lobe, his thick lower lip jutting out into a pout.Â
âSorry, pretty,â Seokjin replied, stooping so he could kiss the apple of her cheek.Â
âItâs fine, honey, Iâm only teasing. I like that you display your emotions so clearly. Youâre like Jimin in that way,â Y/N pulled away from Seokjin, Seokjin making a sad little purr when she disappeared into the pantry. Yoongi watched Seokjinâs neck blush furiously at the compliment with a chuckle.Â
Y/N definitely wasnât aware that her constant kind words meant the world to all of them. The hybrids she adopted were used to a world that was against them, treating them like commodities or prey. Compliments were far and few in between, and kindness was rare and usually met with suspicion. To be so accepted, to be allowed to pursue their interests, and to have a safe and loving home was sometimes unbelievable. Clearing his throat, Seokjin made meaningful eye-contact with Yoongi, wondering if he felt the same.Â
âMy loves? Do either of you know where the new jug of maple syrup ended up?â Y/N called from the pantry, Seokjinâs blush reddening even further with the way she addressed the two of them.Â
âBehind the wolfâs sugar cereal,â Yoongi answered, using a pencil to draw the treble clef on the staff paper.
Y/N made a satisfied hum from the closet, emerging with a gallon jug of syrup, nearly knocking into Jeongguk who was trudging into the kitchen. Hand shooting out to steady her by her shoulder, Jeongguk grunted, taking the jug from her swiftly.Â
âWatch it, you were about to take me out with this thing,â Jeongguk scolded, flicking Y/Nâs forehead. Y/N scrunched up her nose at the elk hybrid, flicking him right back and returning to Seokjinâs side. âWhy do we even need this much syrup?â
âNamjoon,â Y/N, Seokjin, and Yoongi spoke all at once, Jeonggukâs eyes going round at the chorused answer.Â
âThat tracks,â Jeongguk admitted, scratching above the barbell threaded through his eyebrow. âIâm surprised he doesnât have a cavity. Y/N, you spoil him with too many sweets.â
Seokjin glared at the elk hybrid, while Yoongi simply shook his head, definitely not taking him seriously considering he looked like a doe without his bony antlers.Â
âWell, weâll find out. You guys are going to the dentist next week,â Y/N reminded them, Jeongguk sending her a grimace.Â
âDo I have to take these out?â Jeongguk asked, pointing at his lip ring and then sticking out his tongue, Y/Nâs eyes glazing over as she stared at the barbell so close to her face.
âJesus, I didnât know you had that in your mouth,â Yoongi lifted an eyebrow, Y/N mumbling something under her breath as heat rose to her cheeks. If only Yoongi knew what was under the elk hybridâs shirtâ thinking about Jeonggukâs chest had her hiding her expression by hiding around in the fridge.Â
âYeah, youâll probably have to take them out, sweets,â Y/Nâs voice came out feathery, hoping that the three hybrids didnât notice her spontaneous fluster. âUh, what should we do today? Itâs Saturday, so we could go into the city for dinner or something.â âYou three arenât going on a date or something tonight?â Jeongguk snarked, but there was no real bite to it.Â
âNo, not that Iâve planned. Yoongi, Seokjin? Have you? Shall we invite Jeongguk so he isnât lonely?â Y/N teased right back, pure shock and embarrassment washing over the elk hybridâs face as he tripped his way to the breakfast nook.Â
âStupid,â was all Jeongguk could mutter, Yoongi and Y/N sharing an amused snicker at his shock. Jeongguk supposed he walked into that. âWhat you do on dates is none of my fuckinâ business.â
It had only been two days since Yoongiâs birthday, and thankfully, no one teased her when she snuck out of Yoongiâs room in his tee shirt and boxers, smelling like his vanilla body wash. Though truthfully, she didnât run into anyone as she scampered to her bedroom to change into her own clothes. By the time she bumped into Hoseok on the way to the kitchen, all the fox hybrid did was tickle her sides teasingly when he greeted her.Â
She supposed that her hybrids would likely not even acknowledge her tryst with Yoongi; after all, they knew that the two of them had been intimate. Suspecting that they didnât want to embarrass her, that slight comment from Jeongguk was the only minor implication that he had at least thought about what Y/N was doing with Yoongi and Seokjin once or twice. Surprisingly, Y/N couldnât find it in her to feel ashamed, only continuing to slice bananas beside Seokjin.Â
âI think thereâs an early farmerâs market near Faneuil Hall. We can stock up on some produce and then get some drinks and good food around there,â Y/N continued, trying to ignore the intriguing heat rising in her cheeks when she pictured Jeongguk listening in and imagining what her and Yoongi were doing the night of the leopard hybridâs birthday, just down the hall in his own bedroom. She shivered, turning to the stove and greasing up the skillet for the pancakes in order to compose her expression.Â
âLetâs do it! We have to pick a designated driver,â Hoseok made an appearance, his usual disdain for the morning time patched up by the potential opportunity to explore the city later. âNot it!â
âI got it,â Yoongi volunteered, predicting that Taehyung would be the only other option, and Yoongi guessed that Taehyung wouldnât be showing his face the rest of the day. âWhen do you want to leave?â
âUh, not sure. Iâll have to talk to Joon, Jimin, and Tae, before making a solid plan,â Y/N stepped to the side so Seokjin could sprinkle chopped banana into the dollop of batter she ladled onto the pan.Â
Internally, Yoongi cringed. He had no idea if Taehyung would even talk to Y/N after Yoongi confronted him like he had, much less be willing to hang out with the rest of them in the city. With his human side regretting saying anything at all to the Kodiak hybrid, the animalistic side regretted not tearing into him further. It was all very confusing, and part of the reason Yoongi decided to opt out of drinking that evening. Booze and moodiness was a hell of a mixture.Â
Jimin came in from outside shortly after that, a basket full of eggs swinging from his elbow, and when the house began to fill up with the buttery, sweet smell of pancakes, Namjoon was summoned from his bedroom with a wagging tail. Everyone helped themselves like normalâ it wasnât unusual for members of the household to eat at different times, but Y/N still caught herself glancing towards the foyer every few minutes, waiting for Taehyung to silently enter the room and make his coffee.Â
Even when she was washing dishes besides Jimin when breakfast was picked over, a cellophane-wrapped plate of pancakes left for the Kodiak hybrid sitting on the stove, she waited for him. Chewing her lip, she entertained the idea that perhaps he was just sleeping in or not very hungry, but Y/N still couldnât help that wounded section of her heart from throbbing painfully. When her hands were dry and almost everyone had cleared the room, she pulled out her phone to text him.Â
Y/N: Morning, Tae! Left some breakfast out for you if youâre hungry
Y/N: Weâre all planning on going into Boston for dinner tonight, and to walk around the farmerâs market!Â
Tae đ»: Thx
Tae đ»: Have to work on expo pics tonightâŠ
Y/N: oh, okay! You donât have to come if you have too much work
Tae đ»: yeah, Iâll stay here if thatâs alright
Y/N: totally fine, want me to bring you some food home?
Y/N was picking her nails nervously when Taehyung offered no response, starting to fret over him. It was typical, when nearing a photography expo, that Taehyung would hole up in his room or the dark room to work, but Y/N couldnât help but think that he was perhaps still distancing himself from her, even after their last talkâ her almost-confession. Limbs stiffening with dread, a dish slipped from her grasp when she considered how horrifyingly embarrassing it would have been for her had she managed to confess, the phone call from Diana following directly after. Thankfully, with Jimin beside her, he managed to catch the dish before it shattered on the floor, a canine noise of surprise ripping from his throat.Â
âAre you alright?â Jimin placed a palm over her shoulder blade, a pout on his full lips.Â
âO-oh. Yeah, Iâm okay, sweetheart, just clumsy!â Y/N assured him, the warmth of Jiminâs palm immediately soothing her. Chuckling to herself, she pushed some golden hair off of Jiminâs forehead, poking his cheek when his pout didnât let up.Â
âHey, can I help you put the herbs into the planters today? Before we leave? Itâs nice and sunny out,â Y/N shook off her worry, thinking that some time spent outside would do her some good, Jiminâs pout transforming into a brilliant grin as he nodded.
âYou still need to wear a sweater, pretty,â Seokjin called from the hallway, where he had dashed away moments ago to rummage around in the coat closet.Â
âWouldnât dream of leaving the house without letting you bundle me up, Seokjin,â Y/N snickered, waiting patiently by the slider into the backyard while her jaguar hybrid approached her, one of his soft felt coats in his hand.Â
Humming as he puffed out his chest dutifully, Y/N went lax as Seokjin maneuvered her limbs through his coat, a happy purr leaving her lips as his eucalyptus scent swallowed her whole. If Y/N had her way, sheâd throw away every single one of her coats just so she could wear one of her boyâs every time sheâd have to go outside, so she could drown in the scent and comfort of them. As Seokjin slid the last button in place, he ducked low, brushing his lips against her temple softly. Seokjin wasnât as bold as Yoongi when it came to kissing her in front of the othersâ though hugs and words of affection he doled out generously regardless of the audienceâ so the gentle kiss had her skin tingling.Â
âHave fun,â Seokjinâs cheeks rounded out cutely when he smiled at the dazed look on Y/Nâs face, a hand on her lower back as he guided her towards the door.Â
âMm-hmm,â Y/N waved him away, embarrassed. She scurried off, following the swish of Jiminâs sandy tail off in the distance.Â
The grass was starting to become green again, with the nearing arrival of spring, and small sparrows swooped overhead as they scouted for spots to build their nests. Tiny red bulbs were just beginning to swell on the branches of the willow trees, and while the temperature was still rather raw, Y/N couldnât feel it with the way she was wrapped up in Seokjin-scented warmth. The anticipation of spring was making her giddy, and when she caught sight of Jimin patiently waiting for her by the newly refurbished greenhouse with a pot of mint sprigs, she skipped her way to meet him with a smile.Â
Y/N placed the stir-fried noodles she brought back for Taehyung on the stove, next to the untouched wrapped stack of pancakes that were looking really sad. Apparently, the Kodiak hadnât bothered to come downstairs the entire day, and even with the merry tipsiness flooding through her bloodstream from the Mai Tais she ordered at the bar with Hoseok, the sight of the food sitting there had her mood souring quickly.Â
âHe could have at least put these away,â Yoongi muttered from her side, scooping up the plate and promptly dumping the pancakes into the garbage. Seokjin made a low hiss in agreement, upset that his and Y/Nâs hard work was ignored by Taehyung and was now sitting in the trash.
âI should check on him. I donât want him to pull an all-nighter, and he should eat something, at least,â Y/N sighed, resting her chin on Yoongiâs shoulder, her eyelids fluttering at the sensation of his tail curling around the back of her knee. âJeongguk, itâs your turn to pick a movie tonight, just make sure it isn't something too horrifying. I donât think Hoseok can handle a film like Hereditary again, no matter how much rum heâs had.â
âSucks the fun out of it,â Jeongguk complained, sending Hoseok an evil eye, the fox hybrid offering him the middle finger right back as he very tipsily filled a glass with water for himself. âShould I put on Aladdin, or is the Genie too intimidating?â
âPfft. Itâs not the Genie thatâs scary, asshole, itâs that big talking lion cave,â Hoseok cleverly replied, his cheeks flushed and eyes slightly squinting. Jeongguk snorted, eyes rolling into the back of his skull.Â
âHeart of a lion, you have, Foxy,â Yoongi teased, narrowly dodging his ear from being pinched by Hoseok, Yoongi ducking behind Y/N and hiding his face in the back of her neck.Â
âOkay, enough,â Y/N giggled, Yoongiâs fingertips pressing into the soft of her tummy. âGo get comfy while I check in on Tae. Anyone see Joonie or Jimin, by the way?â
âJiminâs half-asleep on the couch already. I think Namjoon went to shower the bar off of him,â Jeongguk helpfully informed her, scratching at the bony spots where his antlers once were. Y/N had said antlers sitting prettily on display on her altar in her bedroom on a strip of velvetâ something Jeongguk didnât know.Â
âAlright, queue up the movie. No Aladdin or Sinister, please,â Y/N gently requested, able to wiggle her way out of Yoongiâs grasp. Scooping up the carton of noodles on the stove, she cupped Hoseokâs warm cheek tenderly as she passed by him, his worried grimace at the thought of a horror movie dissolving into nothing at the touch, his sunny grin replacing the storminess. âBe back soon!â
Sobered now that she had an important task to complete, Y/N soldiered up the stairs, stopping right in front of the dark room, the door open and lights off. Frowning, considering Taehyung told her that he was busy working that night, she spun around, glaring at his bedroom door across the hall.Â
âTae? Are you alright? Not working too hard, I hope?â Y/N knocked on his door, the only indication that he was inside being the lamplight that spilled out underneath the door. âI brought you some dinner. Shrimp stir-fry, your favorite!â
No response.Â
âUm, Taehyung? Youâre worrying me, is something wrong?â Y/N felt her heart begin to race, picturing Taehyung sick and unable to reply, much like how Seokjin was many months ago when he had to scent her.Â
âN-no, nothingâs wrong, Iâm fine!â Taehyungâs voice abruptly cut through her spiraling thoughts, right when Y/N was about to turn the doorknob and enter the room. âThanks for the food, you can leave it there. Iâ Iâm just getting out of the shower.â
Taehyungâs normally smooth voice was strained, making Y/N furrow her eyebrows. If she didnât know any better, she almost detected a fib based on his tone. Considering the odd distance between the two of them, Y/N decided not to push it, and instead left the carton of noodles on the floor with a sigh.Â
âJeongguk is picking out a movie if youâre interested in taking a break from editing,â Y/N offered, hopeful that heâd make an appearance. She hadnât seen him once the entire day, which was far too long for her to go without him.Â
âUhâ I,â Taehyung cleared his throat, pausing. âMaybe. I still have a lot to do.â
So that was as good as a no, Y/N knew. Nodding at the closed door, she tried to imagine his face, as if it had been days rather than hours since she last saw the graceful lines of it.Â
âOkay, well, let me know if you need anything. Otherwise, goodnight, Tae,â Y/N kept the disappointment out of her reply as much as she could, but she wasnât as good at masking her emotions at Taehyung. The melancholia was plain as day and she knew it.Â
Returning back to the stairs, Y/N found it impossible to perk up, even when she heard Hoseokâs pitiful, playful whines when the introductory music to Friday the 13th began to echo through the house thanks to the surround sound in the parlor. When she got to the parlor, all she could do was curl up on Seokjinâs lap on the leather recliner, wrapping a blanket around the two of them without a word.Â
Y/N was eternally grateful that Seokjin didnât ask her what was wrong. He knew already, she was well aware. He simply snaked his arms around her middle to hold her close, the purrs vibrating from his chest soothing her a few degrees. Relaxing, she rested her head on his bony collarbone, whispering quietly into his skin.Â
âLove you, Seokjin.â
The jaguar hybrid tightened his hold on her, brushing his lips over the crown of her head.Â
Sleep evaded her. It wasnât just because of the slasher film before bed. She thought about going upstairs and slipping into Yoongiâs bed, but she didnât want to disturb his sleep by tossing and turning. Grumbling at her darkened ceiling, she tossed the quilt off of her body, shoving her feet into some slides. Since the weather was mild, Y/N decided maybe a lap around the backyard would tucker her out. Blindly, she felt along the walls in the hallway, not wanting to turn on a light and wake anyone up. Kitchen completely dark, Y/N fumbled for the coat rack by the slider door, pulling a garment on at random. Gasping quietly, she noticed that the lock on the door was loose, which was seriously abnormalâ Namjoon was militant about locking up. Figuring he might have just forgotten that evening, Y/N shrugged, easing the door open and trudging outside.Â
It was colder than she thought, and the coat she selectedâ Jeonggukâs leather jacket, as it turned outâ didnât do much to block out the chilly wind. Burying her nose into the collar of the jacket, she breathed in the elk hybridâs scent; mahogany wood, leather, and smoke. Slowly, as she began her walk around the property, Y/Nâs vision began to adjust to the dim outdoor lights that lined the trails. Somehow, being outside, even more alone with her thoughts, Y/N felt her throat growing thick. Pausing, she plopped down on a boulder by the pond towards the rear of the property, rubbing her eyes. With a sniffle, she managed to choke back tears, at her wits end trying to figure out how to fix things with Taehyung.Â
The moon, half-full, shined down on her indifferently. Wishing that the moon could give her answers, solutions, she cursed her weak heart and inability to tell Taehyung how she felt. It was sucking the life out of her, not being able to tell him, to not even be able to see him, and Y/N had no idea what to do. What she needed was someone to confide in, but she didnât want to worry Seokjin or provoke Yoongi into saying something to Taehyung. She knew what Ben and Alice would say. Laura would probably agree with them, too. So really, Y/N had to work things out on her own, and that made her utterly miserable.Â
Unable to stop frustrated tears from gathering in the corners of her eyes, she shoved her hands in the pockets of Jeonggukâs jacket, attempting to stop the tears gathering further by staring at the placid pond. Sniffling again, she froze when a twig snapped off to the side, Y/N searching for the source of the noiseâ it was probably a squirrel or a rabbit. Her ears strained as her heart leapt into her throat at the sound of heavy footsteps, far too heavy to be some kind of tiny critter. Uneasy, she squinted at the bushes beside her, a startled noise leaving her when something squinted right back at her.Â
Instant horror flooded through her, the golden orange eyes narrowing further as she stared back. The eyes resembled the ones belonging to the creature she had nightmares about, the creature that would chase her through the woods. Body locked up and unable to move, her heart was hammering around in her chest, Y/N whimpered in fright. Could it be that the entity banished many months ago was back, and this time manifested as the creature Y/N was terrified of for years? Helplessly, she scraped her nails against the boulder she was glued to as the creature emerged from the bushes, and even in the darkness, Y/N could make out how big it was. As it got closer, Y/N breathing heavily, her heart suddenly stilled; the creatureâs left ear was jagged and scarred over.Â
âJesus C-christ, Joonie? Is that you?â Y/N gasped, her fear slightly slipping away, realizing that it wasnât a creature in front of her at all, it was a wolf.Â
Limbs unfreezing, she leaned forward, getting a better look at him. Indeed, it was her Namjoon, Y/N recalled exactly how he looked back when she first saw him at the shelter. He gazed at her analytically, still several feet away, his head cocked at the sound of her voice.Â
âWhat are you doing out here? Itâs so late!â Y/N recovered, not wanting Namjoon to think she was afraid of him. With shaky knees, she stood, slowly approaching the hybrid. Namjoon glared at her, as if to say and you? âUm. I couldnât sleep, so I decided to take a walkâŠâ
Namjoon sat on his haunches, Y/N hardly able to believe how big his wolf form wasâ it was almost as intimidating as his tall, muscled human form. Hesitantly, she moved in front of him, the top of his head reaching just under her chin. Her earlier fright was a distant memory, and all she wanted in that moment was to pet him. Unfortunately, she didnât know if Namjoon would be okay with that.Â
Namjoon blew a puff of air out of his nose, Y/N wondering if he could read her thoughts, and to her surprise, he pressed his face against her chest, a quiet whine coming from the back of his throat.Â
âWhoa, am I dreaming?â Y/N blurted, Namjoon nuzzling his face further into the jacket she was wearing. Automatically, Y/Nâs hands dove into the shaggy fur around Namjoonâs neck, effectively holding him as he melted into her. âDidnât know you were such a love bug. Looks are really deceiving, huh?â
Giddy, Y/N scratched behind Namjoonâs damaged left ear gently, earning another whine from the wolf hybrid, his tail beating the grass behind him. Y/N, stunned, wondered if Namjoon was actually trying to comfort herâ after all, not only had he scared the shit out of her, he had caught her pathetically weeping by herself, on a rock, in the middle of the night. Namjoon was perceptive, so the idea was fairly feasible to her.Â
All too soon, Namjoon was pulling away, looking over his shoulder expectantly when he began to walk back towards the house. Apparently wanting her to follow, Y/N obeyed, her eyebrows shooting into her hairline when the wolf hybrid led her to the drive in front of the garage, where his van was parked. The vehicle was running and lit up, apparently Namjoon had been hanging out in there after she bid him goodnight. Y/Nâs face grew hot when she spotted the pile of clothes Namjoon left outside, the wolf hybrid growling, Y/N getting the hint. She turned, facing the house, cheeks still aflame as she heard the sound of fabric rustling against skin.Â
âY/N, you can turn around,â Namjoon spoke after several seconds, Y/N not proud that she almost broke her neck while spinning around to look at him. He appeared just as startled by her sudden movement, still yanking his sweater down over his lower stomach, the strip of golden skin hidden from her greedy view in a flash. âUh, want to tell me why you were crying?â
âOh. I forgot how forward you can be,â Y/N quickly swiped under her eyes, the skin still a tad tacky from the few tears that escaped.Â
âDid I scare you that badly?â Namjoonâs mouth flattened into a line, a rare look of vulnerability flashing over his face.Â
âN-no! No, it wasnât you that made me cry, Joonie,â Y/N exclaimed, hurrying over to his side. âSo why were you out here?â
Y/N dodged his original question, something that did not escape Namjoonâs attention. Expecting him to press her, Namjoon soaked in her appearance thoroughly, like he was trying to figure out how she was feeling without her speaking a single word. She fidgeted under the weight of his gaze, especially when something in his eyes shifted when he realized whoâs jacket she was wearing.Â
âCome on, letâs go in. Itâs cold,â Namjoon opened up the van door, gesturing for her to hop inside. Secretly, she was thankful that he wasnât making her go back into the house quite yet.Â
Hovering by the kitchenette, she wasnât really sure where to go with the conversation since they were both avoiding each otherâs questions. Namjoonâs Walkman was playing quiet folk music on the counter, and there was a package of Oreos open beside it. He had put on the fairy lights Y/N taped around the ceiling months ago, something that had her heart squeezing in her chest.Â
âI⊠take a walk around the house every night,â Namjoon admitted after pulling the van door shut, his bitten ear fluttering.Â
âHuh? Like⊠that? In your wolf form?â
âYeah.â
âWhy?â Y/N asked, Namjoon shrugging nonchalantly, leaning against the van door.Â
âI want to make sure weâre safe,â he finally answered, vulnerability all over him again.Â
âOh?â Y/N blinked, not exactly expecting such raw honesty from Namjoon. He had really come a long way when it came to trust, so for him to answer so earnestly, Y/N was taken aback.Â
âWhen you live most of your life without security, once you get it, youâll do anything to keep it,â Namjoon clarified, and contrary to the heaviness of his words, a faint dimple appeared in his cheek. âItâs instinct. Protect myself, protect you.â
âJust me? Not the others?â Y/N couldnât help but giggle, knowing that she was toeing the line of provoking Namjoon into laughter or provoking him into agitation.Â
âWell. Mostly just us twoâŠâ Namjoon muttered, toying with the silver ring in his earlobe. Loving this version of Namjoon, Y/N could hardly remember that she was miserable only fifteen minutes ago.Â
âWhat about Jeongguk, you arenât worried about him? Heâs our teammate, right?â She continued to jest, Namjoon shaking his head.
âY/N, I know youâre just trying to tease me to get out of telling me why you were crying. I hope you know by now Iâm not going to force it out of you,â Namjoonâs ears went sideways, pointing to the loft above the cab. âCan I show you something?â
âWhat?âÂ
âClimb up, I wanna show you something, Y/N,â Namjoon moved towards her, Y/N all but herded to the ladder with his mass behind her. There was no reason for her to refuse, so she hauled herself up to the cushy space, astonished that Namjoon was close behind her.Â
âAh, thankfully Iâm not claustrophobic,â Y/N cringed at her inability to stop jokes from spilling out, cramming herself against the wall in the bunk. Apparently, Namjoon had cleared all of the books he had stuffed up there, transferring them to the bookshelves in his room where his and Y/Nâs shared library was, and it was a comfortable place to sleep again. âItâs cozy up here! You used to sleep in this bunk?â
âMm-hmm, but itâs been a while,â Namjoon carefully swung his large frame onto the bunk beside her, the space wide enough for the two of them to lay there without touching. âSeems like a lifetime ago.â
âShitâs been crazy, hasnât it?â Y/N said, snorting. Namjoon was right, it did seem like a lifetime since she adopted the seven hybrids, and between getting to know them, dealing with ghosts, and falling in love, any normal personâs head would be spinning constantly. âI think weâre taking it in stride, though.â
âYou have a pretty good ability to bounce back,â Namjoon hummed, reaching up to the ceiling, Y/N following the movement and glowing under his praise.Â
âOh! Thereâs a sky light up here!â Y/Nâs eyes widened, Namjoon grunting, pushing the moss-covered window upwards and revealing the night sky. âIs this what you wanted to show me?â
âUh-huh. I donât think you or Jeongguk knew it was up here, since the glass is covered. Thought youâd like it, I remember you telling me you wanted to learn more about constellations.â
Y/Nâs focus on the sky was effectively stolen, gawking at Namjoonâs side profile as she laid beside him. Suddenly she was falling in love with the wolf hybrid all over again, with his perception, the way he listened, the slope of his nose, even.Â
âThatâs right,â Y/N whispered, the fairy lights making his starlight hair appear lilac.Â
âThereâs only a few in the sky this time of year, in this hemisphere. Since weâre outside of Boston, itâs a little easier to see the stars, which is good,â Namjoon didnât seem to notice that she was staring at him, extending a digit up to the sky. âIf you look closely, you can see the constellation Lynx over there. Cancer is right underneath.â
âYou really know everything, donât you, Joon Bug?â Y/N commented softly, Namjoon finally turning his head to look at her. He cocked an eyebrow, watching her shiver at the gust of wind brought in by the open window.Â
âOf course not. Nobody knows everything,â Namjoon pointed out, making Y/N giggle at the reproach in his tone. âNot much else to do in the wild but look at the stars.â
âDo you know the stories of the constellations, too?â Y/N asked eagerly, scooching closer to him subconsciously for warmth.Â
âSome of them,â Namjoon replied, reaching towards the foot of the bunk, dragging an old knitted blanket up and offering it to Y/N. âWant me to tell you what I know?â
âPlease, can you?â Y/N accepted the blanket, the smell of it reminding her of the woods. There was a beat, one filled with tinny folk music and rumbling coming from Namjoonâs chest.Â
âLynx, right there. See it?â Namjoon waited for Y/N to nod, adjusting his body so he could face her on his side, Y/N finding it hard to believe he was willing to be so close to her. âThe reason it was named that is because the stars are so faint, people believed only those with eyes of a lynx could see it. Cancer, below it, has to do with a story involving the Greek gods.â
âI used to love Greek mythology,â Y/N grinned, Namjoonâs expression turning sly.Â
âOh, I believe that,â he chuckled, Y/N wondering if he knew how flirty he sounded. âHercules was trying to slay a creature called a hydra. Goddess Hera sent Cancerâ the crab, to distract Hercules from accomplishing that.â
Y/N watched Namjoon trace the constellations in the sky with his finger, swallowing thickly. Namjoon had done so much to open up to her, and she hardly ever confided in him herself. Clearing her throat, she got his attention, his mouth twisting up quizzically.Â
âI was crying because I was frustrated,â Y/N confessed, Namjoon blinking in surprise.Â
âOkayâŠâ Namjoon drew out the syllables to the word pointedly, shifting closer to her.Â
âJoonie, youâre observant. Have you noticed Taehyung acting strange?â Namjoon stiffened at the mention of the Kodiak hybrid, so Y/N gave his arm a gentle pat. âI know you donât. Uh, like him. But I just wanted to ask if youâve seen how weird heâs been.â
Namjoon paused, throat bobbing, turning the words over in his head.
âHe has been acting odd, I agree,â Namjoon answered honestly, with a soft exhalation. âHis behavior is frustrating you?â
âWell, yes and no. Iâve tried talking to him a couple of times, but we never get anywhere. I donât know how to fix things,â Y/N frowned, eyes on the sky again. Thankfully, though, with Namjoon at her side, she didnât feel like crying again. âI just⊠if I did something to hurt him, I want him to tell me. I donât want him to feel like a prisoner in his own home.â
âI doubt he feels that way,â Namjoon said, the note of firmness in his tone. âAs much as I hate to admit this, Y/N, Taehyung is similar to me in a lot of ways. He takes a while to adjust to things. Maybe heâs simply getting used to newfound freedoms he has never had before. Or heâs got that moodiness lots of artists get. You havenât done anything to hurt him, Y/N. You shouldnât think so badly of yourself.â
âYeah?â Y/Nâs voice was small, Namjoonâs insight bringing her swift comfort. âYou think heâll come around?â
âIn time, yes,â Namjoon assured her, realizing how tired Y/N lookedâ it made something in his chest pinch uncomfortably. âY/N, youâve made us feel safe here. Weâre not prisoners, weâre home.â
âOh,â Y/N breathed, and just like that, she was almost moved to tears again. Struck by the heaviness of the conversation, she yearned for something to distract her. âCan you⊠tell me more about the stars?â
Namjoon gave her a closed-mouth smile, turning his attention back to the sky.Â
âThat one there. Constellation Draco. It represents the dragon who protected golden apples in the garden of Hesperides, Ladon. See it? The golden apples would grant immortality to those who would eat themâŠâ
Y/N listened to Namjoon as best as she could. After confiding in him, she felt like a weight was lifted off of her chest, and his silky, deep voice instilled a sense of calm in her. Namjoon dove into stories of Greek myths, probably trying to make her feel better, and Y/N would ask an occasional question. Some stories he had more details on, others, heâd simply name the constellation and point out where it was. At some point, while he was relaying the tale of Virgo, Namjoon noticed Y/Nâs lack of response. Curiously, he glanced at her, eyes widening when he realized she had fallen asleep beside him.Â
Not knowing what to do, considering carrying her to her bedroom would be impossible to do without waking her (not to mention, he worried about dropping her when climbing down the loftâs ladder), Namjoon could only stare at her serene expression. Gritting his teeth, he closed the window above them as quietly as he could, trying to inch his way towards the ladder. Heâd let her sleep up there, and heâd curl up in the booth for the nightâ he didnât feel right staying next to her, for some reason.Â
He froze like a statue when he heard an unintelligible mumble, turning to Y/N, a pout pulling at her lower lip as she slept, squirming in her spot. Namjoon could only compare the sensation in his chest to something that was melting, his ears pressing against his skull in alarm. And before he could escape and unpack all of that, the muscles of his abdomen contracted when Y/N moved again, slinging her forearm around his middle, this time in an embrace. Utterly paralyzed, Namjoon didnât dare breathe, Y/N mumbling again and cozying up to his side, resting her cheek against his bicep.Â
Namjoon tried, as best as he could, to relax. Clearly, he wasnât going anywhere without waking her up. He was surrounded by the floral, vibrant scent of her, and shamefully, it made his mouth water. He inwardly cursed himselfâ he hadnât scented Y/N in months, and judging by the volume of saliva gathering in his mouth, he would probably have to do it again in the near future. Even with Jeonggukâs musky scent coming off of the jacket she was wearing, he was nearly choking on the unique smell of her.Â
Now, Namjoon was the one who couldnât sleep. Not when Y/N was burrowing against his side like a newborn cub. Every instinct within him was screaming, and it was all he could do to just remain still and focus on his breath. After a few moments, the weight of her arm curled around his center, Namjoon was able to loosen up a bit. Before sheâd wake in the morning, heâd be able to move and not make her uncomfortable. In that moment, however, all he could do was let her hold him, and surprisingly, he was able to fall asleep, contrary to his initial hypothesis. He did, after all, remind Y/N that he didnât know everything.Â
Y/N was disoriented when she woke up hours later, curled onto her side and blinking at the indented spot where Namjoon was previously occupied, a frown on her face wondering if he had left her alone. Peeking over the edge of the loft, she gasped quietly, the wolf hybrid barely fitting in the booth in the back of the vehicle, asleep. Even though he was unconscious, his triangular ears twitched at the sound of her movement. Climbing down quietly, Y/N felt guilty that Namjoon had slept in such a cramped spot, his body twisted in an odd position. After glancing at her watch, Y/N hissed at the late hour of the mid-morning. She hadnât slept that late in months, let alone so well, so she definitely owed Namjoon some gratitude for that.Â
âJoon? Joonie, that canât be comfortable. Iâm awake now, so if you want to keep sleeping you can move up to the bunk,â Y/N slid her palm up and down his back to wake him up as gently as she could. He mumbled, one of his golden eyes cracking open, and immediately the tips of his ears turned scarlet. âI feel bad you had to sleep like this. You could have just stayed next to me!â
The flush on Namjoonâs face deepened, clumsily sitting up, Y/Nâs hand falling from his back. Wanting to tease him, she quickly stopped herself, remembering how sweetly he treated her the previous night.Â
âThanks for last night, Joonie,â Y/N watched him stand, and before she could think against it, she looped her arms around his middle, squeezing him into a fond hug. âNext month, can you tell me about the constellations you can see in April?â
âS-sure,â Namjoon answered, bewildered, placing his hands over her shoulder blades tentatively, Y/N able to feel his pounding heartbeat through his sweater. That, and she could hear his stomach growling, Y/N giggling and letting him go.Â
âShould we get some breakfast?â
âUh-huh,â Namjoon averted his eyes from her, ears drooping in embarrassment. Stumbling his way to the driverâs seat, he turned off the engine, following Y/N back to the house.Â
âWhat, did you two fall asleep reading each otherâs Tarot cards?â Jeongguk was in the breakfast nook with his feet kicked up, chewing on an apple, his eyebrows pulling together when he spotted Y/N. âIs that my jacket?â
âOh, yeah. Sorry, I grabbed it by accident last night,â Y/N shucked off the garment, hanging it back up on the coat rack.Â
âWhatever,â Jeongguk shrugged, still looking at her kind of funny. Using his half-eaten apple, he gestured to the kitchen island. âToast and eggs over there. Your phone, too, Y/N. It was going off every five minutes this morning in your room so Yoongi brought it out here and turned it off, some spam risk calls, I think. Woke me the fuck up.â
âThatâs weird. Itâs probably just an over zealous telemarketer,â Y/N reached for the device, turning it back on without too much thought. âSorry to interrupt your beauty sleep.â
âWhatever,â Jeongguk repeated, this time looking out the window, feigning annoyance and continuing to munch on his apple.Â
Taehyung removed the clothespin from between his teeth, shaking excess fluid from the photo paper poised between the tongs he was holding, clipping the image up on the wire above him to dry. The picture was one he took of the swan boats in the Boston Common weeks ago with one of the vintage cameras Y/N dug out of the basement for him.Â
Y/N. Even just thinking her name had him biting down on his lip hard enough to draw blood. Shaking his head, Taehyung pushed a hand through his unruly curls, trying to put her out of his mind by focusing on straightening out spare rolls of film on the shelf. He had left the house that morning before the sun was even up, just so he could spend more time at the rec center and clear his head. Pinching the bridge of his nose, he tried to put Yoongiâs words out of his mind.Â
At first, Taehyung wanted to knock the leopard hybrid down a few pegs. Every word out of Yoongiâs mouth infuriated him; Taehyung wasnât used to others trying to psychoanalyze him. Usually, if Taehyung stuck to the wall, he wouldnât have people trying to pry into what he preferred to keep to himself. Particularly, his emotions. However, what Yoongi said to him sunk in like a heavy stone thrown into a pond. He could no longer deny it: he had feelings for Y/N.Â
The heavy door to the photography door was pulled open, making him flinch, swear, and topple over the canisters of film he had just organized. Taehyung must have lost track of time, because it was mid-morning, and several other club members would be arriving shortly. Catching the scent of who it was, Taehyung internally groaned. He wasnât ready to deal with that issue yet.
âTaehyungie, youâre here early!â A raspy female voice, delighted, trilled in his ears. âThought you would be. Miss me already?â
Taehyung adjusted the collar of his flannel, gazing at the sky for bravery before he turned around. The bobcat hybrid was pretty, for sure, with feline upturned greenish eyes, and gray-blonde hair. At the sight of her, Taehyung had guilt boiling in his stomach he had to squash down, painting a neutral expression on his face.Â
âYouâre here early, too, Diana,â Taehyung answered nonchalantly, watching a pout tug at her lips.Â
âJeez. Full name today?â Diana set her camera bag down on one of the benches, sniffing the air delicately. âIs something up?â
âNo. Nothing,â Taehyung shook his head, fixing the film rolls again.Â
âLiar,â Diana narrowed her eyes, methodically placing the items of her camera bag on the table. âTell me.â
There was a stark difference between Diana and Y/N. Well, there were several, which caught Taehyungâs attention in the first place. The major one, however, was how Diana liked to press Taehyung for information, and Y/N let him come around and tell her his thoughts when he was ready. Yoongi was in his head again, taunting him. Calling him out for using Diana as a distraction.Â
âIâm fine, Diana,â Taehyung sighed, hoping someone else would arrive momentarily so he would have a better excuse to talk about something else. âDonât worry about it.â
âI bet itâs something at home. The other hybrids you live with must be causing you trouble. That has to be rough, living with so many others. Poor Taehyungie,â Diana cooed, making Taehyungâs hair stand on end. âSort of selfish for a human to adopt that many hybrids. She should know how stressful that is for us.â
âSheâs the least selfish human Iâve ever met,â Taehyung reacted as if someone struck him with a fire poker. A light, surprised hiss came from behind him, Taehyung cringing that he wasnât able to keep the anger out of his response. To boot, he bumped into a basin filled with developing fluid, the liquid spilling everywhere. âUh. Shit. Iâm going to get more paper towels from the supply closet.â
âWow. I get it now,â Diana breathed, Taehyung hardly able to look at the insecurity shadowing her features.Â
âThereâs nothing to get. I said nothing was wrong,â even Taehyung didnât believe himself. Before he could brush by the bobcat hybrid, she caught his sleeve. Throat bobbing, he waited for her to speak.Â
âThis isnât going to last, isnât it?â Diana asked quietly, making Taehyungâs heart pound. âYou love her too much.â
Taehyung didnât answer. She was the second individual in less than 24 hours that brought that to his attention. When he had no reply, Diana sighed.Â
âI hope you can figure it out, Taehyung. Itâs not just you that youâre hurting,â Diana let him go, Taehyung fleeing from the room as swiftly as he could.Â
He hated himself. Always running, running, running. From himself, from his problems, from those who grew to care about him. It made him sick, and instead of finding himself in the supply closet, he found himself in the bathroom, hurling up the hasty breakfast he had into a toilet bowl. Heaving, he thought about everyone he hurt. The man he killedâ even if it was in self-defense. Diana. Y/N. Another dry heave had his body locking up, never feeling more miserable in his entire life. It was like every emotion he desperately locked away had unleashed themselves with a vengeance.
âFuck,â Taehyung rinsed his mouth out at the sink, wiping away tears that tracked down his cheeks with the back of his sleeve. He had to get out of there.
Out in the parking lot before he could bump into any other members of the club, Taehyung pulled the keys to the station wagon out of his pocket, and like the tires were on fire he was leaving the rec center, Yoongi and Hoseok be damned. A problem for later, and to his misery, a problem that would probably have to be solved by Y/N. Slamming his palms against the steering wheel in frustration, he wondered if heâd ever stop making her life more difficult than it had to be.Â
After half an hour of him driving catatonically, Taehyung was parked by the Boston Common. He decided to do the only thing that could potentially calm him down; walk around the park and take pictures until his fingers and mind was numb. Shoving a beanie over his head, simply so he wouldnât have to deal with people staring at his ears, he grabbed his camera and hauled himself outside.Â
The anonymity brought him a semblance of comfort. With the beanie on, he looked like any other human, so he passed by groups of children without them pointing at his ears peacefully. Taehyung spent the better part of two hours taking pictures of early blooming flowers, the task controlling his newfound raging emotions. Zooming in on a pink tulip, Taehyungâs ears picked up a sweet giggle even with his hearing muffled by the beanie. He went pale, the giggle sound very close to Y/Nâs, Taehyung fell backwards on his ass from his crouch, searching for her face amongst the throngs of people. How would she even know he was there?
Suddenly, the laughter was closer, Taehyung whipping his head around to spot a young woman who wasnât Y/N at all. She wasnât by herself, she was pointing at flowers, her arm linked with a tall man beside her. The wind carried their scents, the woman just a human, but the man was a hybrid, some kind of feline. Frozen, Taehyung gawked at them, the pair totally wrapped up in their own little world. His fingertips twitched, a certain part of him wanting to snap a photograph of the two, but he couldnât move. It was the look in their eyes.Â
Taehyung had seen the expression on the male hybridâs face before. Heâd seen it on Yoongi when Y/N would determinedly practice his compositions beside him on the piano. Seokjin often wore the same look whenever Y/N would enter a room. Once or twice, he swore he saw it on Jimin whenever the two of them would work on the garden beds.Â
And the one the woman was wearing? As she glanced at her hybrid companion picking a flower from the dirt for her? It was pure adoration, easy and sweet. One that Y/N offered him, all of them, endlessly. Taehyung then knew.
âWhoâs that?â Jimin asked when Y/Nâs phone went off for the third time, the two of them covered in soil as they transferred flowers into one of the garden beds.Â
âSpam risk. I keep trying to block the number but then another one will replace it. I think some newspaper peddlers got a hold of my cell,â Y/N grimaced, switching her phone off. âSo annoyingâŠâ
Jimin grunted, packing soil loosely around one of the plants. Spring was fast approaching, so whenever she had a moment to spare, she was out with the coyote hybrid setting up the garden. Judy hadnât forwarded any new consultation cases for her, Namjoon, and Jeongguk, so the three of them would sit in the shop during her shifts and basically stock inventory. On the bright side, with the two of them there, sheâd get to tell them what certain herbs were for witchcraft, sometimes Jeongguk would explain who was on the saint medallions, and what they represented.Â
âMaybe you should change your number,â Jimin pointed out, concerned. Nudging her elbow into his ribs, Y/N shook her head.Â
âNah, that would be a total pain in the ass. Theyâll give up eventually,â Y/N brushed it off, turning her head to survey the completed garden bed beside her, filled with culinary and witchy herbs. âIâm so excited to start using these herbs. But even more excited to see what we can grow and cook!â
âMe too. Maybe you can teach me how to make something besides pancakes. I was never much of a cook,â Jimin admitted, admiring the glow on her face.Â
âYou could always go to a cooking class with Seokjin and I. Heâd love that, it gives him a chance to show off,â Y/N replied, running her fingers over the rosemary plant in the herb box. âOh, yeah. Speaking of classes, I know you were interested in maybe taking one once the universities started offering them.â
âI⊠yeah. If itâs okay, I mean,â Jimin paused, setting down the rake he was holding, Y/N groaning. âHuh?â
âJimin, of course itâs okay. You guys need to get it through your pretty, thick, skulls that itâs alright to ask for things,â Y/N grasped onto Jiminâs arm, playfully shaking him. The alarm in his eyes changed to surprise, his cheeks hot. âWhat kind of classes interest you?â
Jimin, contrary to his usual impeccable self-control, had a whine leaving his throat, brushing dirt off of his jeans bashfully. Y/N shook him again with a coo, trying to coax it out of him.
âW-writing. I like reading, but I want to learn how to write down things Iâve seen,â Jimin mumbled, now picking dirt out from beneath his fingernails. âWe had basic education on the ranch, but we never really learned how to write creatively. It wasnât necessary.â
âCreative writing! Sounds like fun, have you looked into any local universities, if theyâll offer that?â
âYeah, Boston College is going to,â Jimin was completely pink, Y/N finding his shyness adorable. âIn the fall.â
âSo, are we signing you up?â Y/N cocked her head, Jimin growing redder by the second. âCâmon, Jimin. You should! Itâll be fun for you to meet some new people, write together.â
âIf itâs okayââ Y/N shot Jimin a glare, making him cut himself off, chuckling nervously. âIâd like to try it out.â
âGreat! As soon as thereâs information about applications, let me know, Iâll help fill them out if you need me to,â Y/N cheered, pumped for the coyote hybrid. âOh! If the classes are in the fall, itâll be after our trip to Montana to visit your family. We can tell them about it too!â
Jimin stuttered, apparently haven forgotten about Y/Nâs promise to take him out west. Blonde hair falling into his eyes, Jimin flashed her a shaky smile, nodding. She opened her mouth to continue, when her phone went off again. Agitated, this time she actually picked up, murmuring an apology to Jimin.Â
âHello? Please stop calling. Iâm not interested in anything youâre selling,â Y/N spoke firmly, Jimin watching her with rapt interest.Â
âActually, Iâm interested in something you could sell me,â A slimy, smug male voice answered. Wrinkling her nose, she exchanged a puzzled look with Jimin.Â
âI think you have the wrong number. Iâm not selling anything. Please stop calling,â Y/N was about to hang up, when the man scoffed.Â
âYouâre Y/N L/N, right?â The manâs tone turned condescending, Jiminâs ears perking up protectively as he listened in on the conversation. âYouâll want to sell when you find out what Iâm offering.â
âFuck off,â Y/N barked, an icky sensation filling her. She hung up, blocked the number, and turned off her phone with jerky movements. âEw. Telemarketers are getting creepier and creepier.â
âThat was⊠worrisome,â Jiminâs eyes softened when Y/N appeared slightly disturbed, offering him a half-smile.Â
âNo, itâs fine. Just trying to intimidate me into giving my credit card number, probably,â Y/N shook off her nerves, blindly searching behind her for another pot of flowers to plant.Â
âWeâve planted them all, Y/N. Yoongi will probably want your help with dinner, you want to head in and wash up before then?â Jimin changed the subject. Instinct told him to look further into what he perceived to be a threat, but if Y/N wasnât too concerned, he decided to let it go. For now.Â
âGood idea. Itâll be a while before we plant the vegetables, anyways,â Y/N agreed absently, letting Jimin help her up with an arm around her waist. âWeâll start planning our trip to Montana in a couple of weeks! Right after we come back from New York to visit Hannah.â
âSounds good,â Jimin agreed, reluctant to let her go once she was back on her feet. âIâll help any way that I can.â
âYou know how to book airline tickets?â Y/N teased, both of them making their way back to the house. However, when they entered the kitchen, the lack of Yoongi occupying the room had them both stopping in their tracks. âWeird. He should be home by now. Maybe Hoseok convinced him and Taehyung to stop for pizza?â
âSeems like the most likely possibility,â Jimin nodded, switching on the lights. âMaybe ask Seokjin?â
âYeah, I think I will. See you in a bit, okay, sweetheart?âÂ
Y/N left Jimin in the foyer, the coyote hybrid off to take his shower, Y/N deciding to do the same before she sought out Seokjin for any information.Â
Meanwhile, Yoongi was incessantly trying to call Y/N, getting sent directly to voicemail each time. Cursing, he wondered if it was karma for jumping down Taehyungâs throat that he was now stuck at the rec center with Hoseok, without a way to get home.Â
âWhy the fuck would he leave us here? I get why the wolf hates him hour by hour,â Hoseok complained, leaning against a cement pillar in the lobby of the rec center. His gym bag was by his feet, exhausted from a day of both coaching and practicing with his own team. The fox hybrid was ready to throttle Taehyung. âIâm gonna hide all of his cameras if we ever get back. Y/N still not picking up?â
âNo. I think she turned off her phone, the spam callers were probably bothering her,â Yoongi mumbled, tucking his freshly-showered hair behind his ear. âThis is fucked. Should we call a cab?â
âI donât think we can,â Hoseok whistled his three-tone tune, mouth set in a sardonic smirk. âCall someone else. Call Jinnie, maybe heâll pick up.â
Yoongi, hissing, did just that, ready to blow his brains out when the jaguar hybrid didnât answer the call either. It was just his luck, getting stuck with Hoseok at the rec center with no one coming to get them, when all he wanted to do was have a beer and rot on the couch the rest of the evening. Hoseok was annoying the shit out of him, pacing around the lobby, ordering him around. In a last-ditch effort, he called the next number on his phone.
âWhy the fuck are you calling me?â Jeongguk picked up on the third ring, his voice a sarcastic drawl.Â
âTaehyung ditched Foxy and I at the rec center. Y/Nâs phone is off. Weâre stuck here,â Yoongi snarled, fed up with the three hybrids pushing his buttons at the moment.Â
âAnd what would you like me to do about that? You know I donât drive,â Jeongguk sounded like he was rolling his eyes, Yoongi pressing his forehead to the cinderblock wall and praying for patience.Â
âWell, first, you can remove the stick from your ass. Then, you can put me on the phone with someone who can come and fucking pick us up before the janitors lock us in here.â
âNice,â Hoseok commented from across the room, giving Yoongi a thumbs-up of approval, his russet tail swishing merrily.Â
There was a sound of rustling, before Namjoonâs confused voice filled Yoongiâs ears.
âI can come get you,â Namjoon said through the receiver, Yoongi muttering hallelujah. âWhat about Taehyung? What do I say to Y/N?âÂ
âLet me handle that when I get back. If you say something now, sheâll freak,â Yoongi ordered, Namjoon making a noise of agreement. âHeâs probably just fucking around with his cameras in the park and forgot about us.â
âAsshole. Alright, Iâll be there in twenty,â Namjoon hung up, Yoongi putting his head in his hands.
âWhatâs wrong? Heâll be here soon,â Hoseok approached the leopard hybrid, hands on his hips.
âY/N is going to be pissed,â Yoongi leaned his head back against the wall, rubbing his temples.
âWell, yeah. Not at us, though, donât sweat the shit,â Hoseok bumped his hip against Yoongiâs. âItâs Taehyung thatâs going to be in the doghouse.â
âYeah I know. I think itâs my fault heâs lost his fucking mind, though.â
âWhat are you talking about? Did you say something to him?â Hoseok exclaimed, surprised.
âI told him something he didnât wanna hear, but had to know.â
âOh, youâre so fucked, dude,â Hoseok tsked, walking to the doors and peering outside. âGuess weâll see.â
âWhat in the fuck are you talking about?â Y/N got out of the shower and walked into a whole new pile of shit. âHe left you there? Where is he now, is he back yet?â
Y/N was livid. Every hybrid in the room, Yoongi, Namjoon, and Hoseok, all had their ears pressed to their skulls, like they were going to be punished. The only one she cared to scold was Taehyung, more worried about him than she ever had been.Â
âNo,â Namjoon broke the silence bravely, Y/N ready to tear her hair out.Â
âPerfect. Absolutely perfect. Let me call him,â Y/N turned her phone back on, glancing at everyone in the room, tails between their legs. âIâm not mad at you guys, itâs not your fault. Heâs been a pain in my ass for like three weeks now. Heâs lashing out, for whatever reason⊠I gotta get Laura over here, do some conflict resolutionâŠâ
Hoseok gave Yoongi an encouraging eyebrow raise, the fox hybrid slyly spiriting himself down in the basement to change. Meanwhile, Namjoon went back outside to check the driveway for any sign of the station wagon Taehyung hijacked. Only Yoongi remained, Y/N wondering why he looked so suspicious, shifting from one foot to another. Tabling that for a moment, she dialed Taehyungâs number, ready to chew him out. To Yoongiâs astonishment, the Kodiak hybrid answered right away.Â
âIâm on my way back to the rec center now, I just lost track of time in the park, now thereâs rush hour trafficââ
âDonât bother,â Y/N cut him off, seething. Yoongi had never seen Y/N so pissed off at someone (other than himself, when he was being elusive about their first meeting). âNamjoon picked them up a half hour ago. They were waiting for two hours for you, Taehyung. How could you take off like that?â
âIâIâŠâ
âWeâll talk when youâre home. I told you that it was fine for you to go wherever you please, Taehyung, but to take off without a word? Leaving the other two behind?â
âIâm sorry,â Taehyungâs voice was thick, the sounds of Boston traffic coming through the receiver. The pain in his voice had her heart breaking.
âJust get back here, okay? Drive carefully, Taehyung.â
Y/N hung up, arms limp by her side, Yoongi eyeing her carefully.Â
âCan I have a hug?â Y/N asked hollowly, Yoongi springing into action promptly by gathering her in his arms, ashamed that he likely set that whole thing in motion. Y/N was too exhausted to even cry, simply hiding her face into Yoongiâs hoodie, bathing in his comfort.Â
âY/N⊠I think this might be my fault,â Yoongi cradled the back of her head, Y/N snorting humorlessly.Â
âHow? You were the one that was ditched,â Y/N pulled away, tucking hair behind Yoongiâs ear.Â
âYesterday morning. I confronted Taehyung about his behavior. Maybe this is karma kicking my ass,â Yoongi confessed, Y/Nâs eyebrows pulling together. âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have said anything to him.â
âWell, that depends on what you said,â Y/N replied slowly, fear creeping into her gut. Surely, Yoongi wouldnât tell Taehyung how she felt about him?
âI didnât tell him how you feel. Thatâs up to you,â Yoongi said quickly, Y/N breathing out in relief. âI justâ I was pretty harsh. Told him to stop acting shifty. I was just trying to protect you.â
âI appreciate that,â Y/N squeezed his shoulder, his ears perking back up at the touch. âI should fight my own fights though, angel. Talking to Tae about matters of the heart⊠is tricky. Delicate.âÂ
âYouâre not upset with me?â Yoongi purred, secretly pleased.Â
âNot that much. Youâll have to make it up to me in the future, though,â Y/N flicked his hoop earring, not having the energy to get upset with Taehyung and Yoongi. Yoongi, relieved, ducked and stamped a kiss on her forehead.Â
âWith pleasure,â Yoongi placed another kiss on the tip of her nose, grasping for her hand. âCome. Letâs start on dinner, take your mind off things until he gets back.â
Minutes crawled as she and Yoongi began chopping vegetables for a quick curry recipe, Seokjin joining them after a while, the jaguar hybrid helpfully making the rice to go with the main dish. She dropped the knife she was holding when the front door creaked open solemnly, the two feline hybrids in the room with her exchanging uneasy side-eyes. After she hung up from Taehyung, Y/N cooled down somewhat, and was mostly just relieved he had made it home. Yoongi and Seokjin remained behind in the kitchen, and Y/N went into the foyer to meet Taehyung. She hadnât seen him, physically, in over 24 hours. He looked like a mess.Â
Normally golden skin ashen and a touch green, eyes tired and lacking their usual sparkle, Taehyung stood in front of her with his shoulders slumped.Â
âYouâre back,â was all Y/N said, a lump in her throat. âWhat happened?â
âI justâ I went into the city to take photos. Forgot that theyâd be without a car,â Taehyung pulled at the hem of his sweater, avoiding her eyes. âIâm so sorry, I wonât do that again. I didnât mean to.â
âUm, okay. I accept the apology, but itâs Yoongi and Hoseok you should probably apologize to. Namjoon as well, he picked up the slack,â Y/Nâs chest throbbed painfully. She didnât know how much more she could take of seeing Taehyung in such distress. âTae, have you been sleeping? You look like you donât feel well.â
Y/N took a step forward, panic flashing over Taehyungâs face. Did he think she was going to hurt him? He glanced at the stairs, towards his bedroom, and shook curls out of his eyes.Â
âI think I caught a bug from the rec center. I donât want to get you or the others sick. Iâll⊠apologize in the morning,â Taehyung breathed, his voice cracking on the last word he uttered. âIâm sorry, Y/N. I am.â
With that, Taehyung left. Y/N had not a drop of energy to chase after him. She was tired of waiting for him to be honest with her. Y/N decided then and there that she would listen to Namjoon, who swore to her that Taehyung would eventually come around. Putting her faith in her wolf hybrid, she swallowed down her agony and returned to the kitchen to finish making dinner.Â
âHow you doinâ?â Hoseok stared down at Y/N, who was standing below him while he sat on the metal bleachers. Y/N snorted at his silly accent, his attempt to make her laugh.Â
âOh, you know. Another day in the life,â Y/N sang, pulling her jacket around her tightly. âFirst outdoor meet of the season. You excited?â
âA bit,â Hoseok swung his feet in front of her face, his expression turning contemplative. âToo bad all the other lumps I live with didnât want to watch it.â
âWhat, am I not enough?â Y/N teased, catching the loose shoelaces dangling before her. With a hum, she grasped his ankle, gingerly tying the laces so he wouldnât trip on the track.Â
âYouâll suffice,â Hoseok relented dramatically, wiggling his foot in her hold playfully. âHope youâre not as upset as you were the other night. Weâre worried about you.â
âAh, Ho-seok,â Y/N complained, considering she had put the drama at home aside to watch his meet peacefully. âDonât worry. Iâm a big girl, if I canât handle road bumps from time to time, I might as well be a princess.â
âYou know⊠thereâs a French saying. âAprĂšs la pluie, le beau tempsâ. That basically means after wading through the shit, something good will happen,â Hoseok sobered, reaching up to the bar above him and swinging his body through the slats of the bleachers so he could stand in front of her.Â
âIs that a literal translation?â Y/N drawled sarcastically, Hoseok smirking at her and pinching her nose.
âNo. The literal translation is âafter the rain, good weather.â The sentiment is the same, though. Things will blow over.â
âWait a second, you speak French?â Y/N blinked, even when his coachâs whistle blew to call the team members to the track. She never even considered that he could, even though he was born in Paris. That made her feel quite silly.
âPensez-vous que l'hiver sera rude, darling?â Hoseok called, jogging backwards with a wink. He was off, quick as lightning, Y/N pulling out a translation app while repeating the words he shot at her.Â
ââDo you think winter will be hardâ? Itâs the end of fucking March, you goober,â Y/N scoffed to herself, though despite the ridiculousness, a grin tugged at her lips.Â
A while later, back at home once Hoseok won first place in the mile run again, Y/N decided to tidy up her room. Full of energy somehow, she started at her altar by organizing items on the vanity. She had the moonstone Namjoon once gave her front and center, and against the mirror were Jeonggukâs antlers. Recently, Jimin had dried a bunch of lavender and sage for her to use in her practice, so Y/N used natural string to bind the leaves into a bundle for smoke cleansing. Enjoying a few moments to herself, Y/N lit a candle on her altar, burning some calming sandalwood incense to really let loose. It was only a matter of time before one of her boys sought her out, which didnât bother her in the slightest, but the rare solitude was refreshing as she wrapped the bundle up tightly.Â
Almost as soon as she tied the last knot, there was a knock on her bedroom door.Â
âCome in!â
âHi, pretty!â Seokjin slunk into the room, shutting the door behind him. In his arms was her laptop and a fuzzy blanket from his bedroom, and he was dressed in sweats and a slouchy white tee shirt. âWanna watch a movie with me? I miss you!â
âOf course,â Y/N melted on the vanity stool she was seated on, Seokjin placing her laptop and the blanket on her bed. Before she could get up, Seokjin was behind her, a closed-lipped smile on his face reflected in the mirror. âI miss you too! Iâm all yours this afternoon.â
âWe could watch Emma. I just finished reading it and waited, like you suggested. What do you think?â Seokjin began to make a nest on the bed for the two of them to curl up into, Y/N watching him through the mirror and setting the herb bundle she made down.Â
âYes, please! I havenât seen it yet, surprisingly. I wonder how itâll compare to the book.â
âI guess weâll see,â Seokjin mused, straightening up and shutting her curtains, attempting to create the perfect environment to watch a movie. Again, Y/N adored that trait Seokjin possessed, the ability to figure out exactly what she needed to decompress. Once he was satisfied with how everything looked, he turned his attention to her, trudging over cutely.Â
Seokjin leaned down to kiss the top of her head, his entire body suddenly locking up as soon as his nose was buried in her hair, a growl low in his throat. Suddenly, he wasnât so cute. âOh.â
âWhat? Do I smell? Is it the incense smoke?â Y/N frowned in the mirror, Seokjinâs palms curling around her shoulders heavily.Â
âNo, you smellâŠâ Seokjin pulled her up to a stance, spinning her around and shoving his face in her neck. âSo good.â
âYou always s-say that,â Y/N mumbled, embarrassed and slightly turned on. It had been at least a couple of weeks since someone touched her in a more heated way. Part of her brainâ distantlyâ wondered if he had to scent her or something, with the way he was backing her against a wall. The sudden change in the mood had her reeling.Â
âMm, but somethingâs different,â Seokjinâs words took on that siren-like quality he usually reserved when he was alone with her, Y/Nâs lips dropping open to reply. However, her words were choked from her as Seokjin dragged his tongue from her collar bone up to just below her ear, shuddering against her. âSweeter. Stronger.â
âW-well, I havenât done anything different,â Y/N clutched the front of his tee shirt desperately, eyes going wide when he shoved a knee between her legs. âSeokjin. Baby. Are we reallyâŠ?â
âMmmph,â Seokjinâs speech was muffled, considering he was frantically dragging his face and lips across every exposed patch of skin around her neck and upper chest. âJust wanna. Mm. Kiss you.â
âThen kiss me,â Y/N egged him on, Seokjin nibbling along her jugular.Â
âNot⊠n-not while theyâre here,â Seokjin sounded strained, regretful. âI donât want them to hear you with me.â
âI didnât say fuck me, Seokjin,â Y/N protested, a strangled noise coming from the jaguar hybrid. âYou can still kiss me.â
âFuck, okay,â Seokjin relented, sliding his lips from her throat to her jaw, littering kisses all over the sharp angle. âGod, youâre irresistible. What are you doing to me?â
âNothing,â Y/N whined, wrapping her arms around his neck urgently, pressing her chest to his and getting on her tip-toes. Absently, Seokjin pressed a palm against her lower abdomen, which had her stomach flipping over unexpectedly.Â
âYou have no idea how good you smell right now. You must be ovâ I⊠makes me wannaââ
âWanna what?â Y/N breathed âWhat am I?â
Seokjin pulled away a degree, his face flushed and eyes wild, predatory. Lust and thrill pulsed through her, but she wasnât about to escalate things when Seokjin expressed he didnât want to take things further while the other hybrids were still in the house. His hand still pressed against her abdomen, she looked down, confused. Ov⊠ovulating. The realization had heat flashing though her violently.Â
âYeah,â Seokjin read the sudden understanding blossoming across her face, restraint in his posture. Swooping down, his lips landed on hers in a heavy kiss, but it was short and sweet. âRemember what you asked me about a couple of weeks ago?â
âUh-huh,â Y/N nodded, trying not to whimper when he removed his knee from between her legs, stepping aside. When she asked him about ruts.Â
âI think next month might be my time,â Seokjin was scarlet red, adjusting his sweatpants awkwardly. âJudging by my reaction to your scent at this point in your, um. Cycle.âÂ
âD-damn. I thought I was the one famous for dropping bombshells,â Y/N attempted to recover from the sudden attack on her neck and chest, though cutting through her lust was also a concern. âNext month? Youâll tell me how to prepare for that, right?â
Seokjin nodded eagerly, despite his clear embarrassment.Â
âSorry. I didnât mean to ambush you like that.â
âItâs okay, itâs natural for you, honey,â Y/N grabbed his hand, bringing it to her lips and kissing his knuckles reassuringly. âYou still want to watch the movie with me? I donât want the scent torturing you.â
âI still want to spend time with you,â Seokjin quickly shot her doubts down, urging her towards the bed. âThe scent just caught me off guard. I swear, I can control myself.â
âToo bad,â Y/N quipped, Seokjin clicking his tongue at her but snorting softly at her jest nonetheless.Â
âYouâre so easy to rile up, Y/N. It might get you in trouble with me in the future,â Seokjin warned, pushing on her shoulders slightly so sheâd flop onto the bed bonelessly. âScoot over and play the movie, hmm?â
The teasing threat had sparks shooting through her veins, and she obeyed him completely by making space for him, waiting until he was comfortable and pulling her into his side before playing the film on her laptop. Y/N let Seokjin nuzzle into the crook of her neck for pretty much the entire movie, positively amazed by his self-restraint.Â
âThe book was better, so far,â Seokjin commented halfway through, tail curling around Y/Nâs waist.Â
âI agree, but itâs still nice to watch this with you,â Y/N stroked her hand through Seokjinâs silky waves, content. âLetâs watch Pride and Prejudice next.â
âAgain?â Seokjin exclaimed, finally retreating from the crook of her neck with amusement all over his handsome face.Â
âCome on, Seokjinnie. I thought you liked spoiling me,â Y/N jutted out her lower lip and batted her eyelashes, trying to lay it on thick just so she could spend more time with him.Â
âA little bit too much,â Seokjin leaned his head back, relenting. âQueue it up.â
That evening ended with her and Seokjin falling asleep with movies still playing in the background. The following morning involved Y/N doing menial chores once untangling herself from a very clingy Seokjin, wiping sweat from her brow as she vacuumed the entire first floor. The task distracted her from thinking about the sticky situation with Taehyung and the fact that Seokjin told her to expect his rut to hit the following month, lining up pretty closely with their trip to New York. Talk about timing.Â
Her phone had been going off all morning with more spam calls. She ignored every single one, starting to agree with Jimin that sheâd have to change her phone number in the near future. Taking a break, she sat down on the staircase, an email notification popping up on the screen from her boss, Judy. Curiosity and excitement stuck through her, hoping for a new case so Jeongguk would stop suggesting the three of them investigate local haunted churches as she tapped on the message.Â
Y/N, Jeongguk, and Namjoon,Â
I hope you are all doing well. I would first like to congratulate and thank you for your success at the Sandersâ home. Ms. Sanders has reached out to me and raved about your professionality and dedication to helping them.Â
Iâve received information about a new consultation Iâd like to hand over to you three. Thereâs a bed and breakfast inside of Boston city that has changed hands many times. The rumors that it is dangerously haunted drives customers away, aside from amateur paranormal investigative crews. The newest manager stated that these amateur crews have increased the activity tenfold.Â
Considering the business may be shut down due to lack of revenue, the manager has reached out to me for a potential cleansing and banishment. Would this be something the three of you would consider handling? Let me know when you come into work tomorrow, and Iâll email the manager for more information.Â
Blessed be,Â
Judy
Screenshotting the email, she sent it to Namjoon and Jeongguk in their group chat titled Dream Team. She wasnât expecting an immediate response, considering the two of them were out in the van picking up a short list of necessities from the drugstore in town. Her phone started to buzz in her palm, and her reflex was to throw it considering the amount of spam calls she had been getting lately. However, she relaxed once she saw that it was Laura calling, to her happy shock.Â
âHi Laura! Long time no chat! How are you, Kai and Tyler?âÂ
âHey baby, sorry to keep you in the lurch. Ty and I have been looking all around the area for a good preschool to enroll Kai in next fall. You wouldnât believe the loops you have to jump through to get a nearly four-year-old into preschool!â Laura sounded exasperated, but still retained her sunny sound.Â
âOh, no worries! Adult life really takes the wind out of you, huh? I sometimes feel like Iâm chasing my tail.â
âWas that a pun? Y/N, last time you started making puns all the time, you were writing your thesis and living off of caffeine,â Laura accused, making her crack up. After so long, she missed her girlfriends making wise cracks at her expense.Â
âIt wasnât, but thanks for the laugh. I needed it.â
âWhatâs up? You sound high-strung, baby.â
âThe usual. I could use your conflict resolution skills right about now. Any chance youâre free in the next eight months?â Y/N joked, even though she was half-serious as well.Â
âIâm free on Saturday. Want me to swing by? Fresh perspective might be useful. Youâre all by yourself over there, diffusing situations.â
âCan I text you about it before you come? Youâre sure youâre willing?âÂ
âAm I sure? Y/N, weâve been like sisters for years. Iâd do anything for you, just like you would for me. Iâll help you out!â
âDo you want me to babysit Kai on Saturday night? Date night?â Y/N offered, a smile on her face.Â
âY/N, I could kiss you. I need a date night so bad, you have no idea. Iâll bring him by when I come for the little meeting. Text me the details so Iâm prepared, alright? Love you, baby.â
âBye Laura, love you,â Y/N massaged her sore lower back, strained from dragging the ancient vacuum around all day. Grunting, she stood, resuming her task so she would be done by midday and perhaps take a nice, long shower.
Just after shoving the vacuum back into the coat closet, the front door banged open, Y/N flinching and shouting a colorful swear. Poking her head around the staircase, she stared daggers at the figure clad in black waltzing through the door.Â
âJeongguk! Iâve told you at least three times to be careful with the door. If you break the stained glass, Iâm dragging your candy ass to the auctions to find exact replacements. And that could take months,â Y/N threatened, marching up to him and taking the bulk-sized package of toilet paper from him with her tongue sticking out.Â
âJudas priest. Thatâs like the first time a threat of yours has actually frightened me,â Jeongguk scoffed incredulously, Namjoon gently locking up the door behind him with several bags of his own.Â
âQuiet and bring everything down to the basement,â Namjoon requested, Y/N able to tell that he was sick to the back teeth of hanging out with Jeongguk for the afternoon based on the agitated swish to his fluffy silver tail.Â
Y/N assisted them in putting everything under the basement stairs, Jeongguk able to duck under the tight space now that he didnât have his antlers taking up so much headroom.Â
âYou guys get my text?â
Both of them appeared confused, Y/N watching with a snicker as they fumbled for their pockets on the way back up to the ground floor. Waiting as they read the screenshotted image Y/N bounced on her toes, their eager expressions having a warm, fond sensation filling her entire body. Jeonggukâs mouth opened, no doubt ready to ask one hundred questions, but he was interrupted by some rapt knocking on the front door. Namjoon recoiled, since he knew that with his and Jeonggukâs return back home, everyone should be accounted for.Â
âAh, itâs probably a Girl Scout or something. Hold on,â Y/N gave Namjoon a soft arm pat as she passed by him, unlocking the door and pulling it open. Instead of a little girl she was ready to fork over significant cash to in order for a large shipment of Thin Mints, there was a middle-aged man standing on her porch.Â
âUm, hello, sir. Can I help you?â Y/N assessed the person in front of her. He didnât appear to be holding onto any pamphlets like a Jehovah Witness, and the expensive, well-tailored suit he was wearing didnât make him seem like a robber of any kind. However, his greasy, expectant face had her a little on edge.Â
âY/N L/N. Youâve been dodging my calls,â the same slick voice from the phone call she had in front of Jimin days ago was now several feet away, pure horror flooding through her system. âFigured I should swing by.â
âWho the fuck are you? How did you find my house?â Y/N raised her voice, and in less than a second flat, Namjoon was on her right, growling darkly, and Jeongguk was on her left, a firm grip on her elbow that felt protective. Instead of backing away in fright, the man smiled slimily, a gold tooth replacing one of his normal incisors, looking from Namjoon to Jeongguk like they were prime plots of real estate.Â
âReal nice animals youâve got there. Gerryâs Hybrids is where you got them, am I correct?â
âYou have about five seconds to get the fuck off this porch,â Namjoonâs tone had never been more deadly, the man simply barking out a laugh.Â
âOh, heâs a pill. Just what I was looking for.â
âWhat do you want? Jeongguk, call the cops,â Y/N placed a hand over his, but the elk hybrid wouldnât budge.Â
âMs. L/N. The nameâs Harold Bass, from Manhattan. Those hybrids next to you, and the other five no doubt lurking around in this dump of yours, were supposed to belong to me.â
âThatâs too bad. Theyâre mine, now get the fuck off my property,â Y/N was about to slam the door in his face, unable to believe the guyâs audacity. It had been so many months since Y/N had adopted her boys, she never even considered that this guy would try and find her.Â
âBefore you close this piece of plywood on me, you should know something. Iâm giving you an ultimatum.âÂ
âWhat the fuck?â She breathed, Haroldâs nose curling at her continued use of profanity. He reached into his suit jacket, Namjoon grabbing Y/Nâs other arm and pulling her partially behind him.Â
âHereâs the deal. You either take my generous offer for the animals, or I take you to court for stolen property. This is an agreement I signed with Gerry stating I had them on hold. I put a deposit down before you âadoptedâ them.â
âWhat?â Y/N squeaked, bile rising in her throat.Â
âSimple, simple girl. Gerry mentioned you werenât the sharpest tool in the shed,â Harold sneered, all venom and acid. âAre you hard of hearing?â
âNamjoon, please,â begged, grasping a fistful of the back of his sweatshirt to stop him from lunging at Harold. âI donât understand, Mr. Bass. Iâve legally adopted them. You canât take my boys away.â
âNo? You havenât heard my offer?â
âThere is absolutely nothing you can offer me.â
âNot even one million dollars for the seven of them?â
Jeongguk swore from beside her, his grasp on her elbow loosening. Even Namjoon went statue still, all of the color draining from his face. Y/N was really going to be sick, her two hybrids evidently already concluding sheâd take that offer.Â
âFuck. That. And fuck you. Get off my property,â Y/N spat, finally managing to slam the door shut and lock the deadbolt in place. Breathing raggedly, she saw the shadow of Harold Bass behind the stained glass beside the front door. He was laughing, Y/N could hear it even with the barrier of the locked door.Â
âWell then. Youâd best get a good lawyer, Ms. L/N. Youâll be hearing from mine soonâ and itâs a call you cannot ignore.â

Change My Mind [3]

__________
For a guy with his heart on his sleeves and his emotions displayed so loudly on his face like neon signs with gigantic arrows, Taehyung is an enigma.
It didnât help that he had experience in acting, if anything it made it harder to understand him.
One moment he's supportive of your quest for a perfect husband then another, he's raging with a jealousy even the power of the thousand burning suns couldn't replicate. Even when Guwon has long disappeared, Taehyung didn't stop from hanging off of your arm when the three of you had entered your home.Â
In the short time they had stayed over, he made sure he was somehow close to you or having you within his sight while Jimin returned to being the sweet boy he had always presented himself as but the glint of something dark in his eyes never disappeared.
But it didn't make any sense. All of their behaviors, even Jimin, is confusing.
Taehyung had introduced a date to the group before, and had hooked up with a few people from the after-parties if the othersâ words were anything to go by. Jimin is the same, although he took every chance to flirt with you at any time and everywhere, you always thought it was him being his playful self. But after last night?
You don't know.
And you hate not knowing.
To find out that Jin still liked you was shocking already, then comes this new realizationâalong with the impacts of Jungkookâs confessionâto knock you off of your feet. You thought he had moved on like he had said years before, but last night's conversation had told you otherwise.
âThat's the tenth time I've heard you sigh just this hour alone and we're only drinking coffee, whatâs wrong?â
Your head shot up to meet the concerned gaze of the oldest make-up artist. Jihae is one of the original staff back from 2013, the woman who had picked you up when you tripped in front of the BigHit building crying with your bag spilled out, having been given a low grade in one of your subjects.Â
They were lacking in staff back then, urgently searching for another body to help with the debut look and when she saw your cosmetic bag, she tugged you inside and told you to agree with whatever they were going to ask.Â
Stunned, you followed the woman without question.
A month later, you dropped out of the nursing course your mother had insisted you take and pursued cosmetology.
Many times have you looked back at the memory and grimaced. It could've gone wrong, she might've been leading you into a trafficking ring but nonetheless, you're glad you had accepted it.
All because Jihae had seen you with mascara-stained tears and somehow deemed you skilled enough for the job. Up until today, you still wonder what she had seen in an emotional teenager who had comically tripped face-first in the companyâs front yard, mascara running down her face and thought: âSheâd be a good additionâ.Â
Whatever it is, you're thankful.Â
âHey, you still with us?â
Snapping out of your trance, you wearily smiled at her. âYes I am, unnie. Just frustrated about something...â
At this, multiple heads turned to you, their stares a varying mix of curiosity and teasing. Suddenly reminded of the group lunch Jihae had proposed that day, a bonding exercise for the entire make-up artists roster, for better teamwork, she had said and internally facepalmed. You had forgotten that it wasn't just your friends sitting on the table with you and you had just aired your problem out in the open for them to hear.
Fuck Kim Taehyung and his confusing attitude. You should beat his ass next time you see him for being the catalyst to the dilemma haunting your mind.
Leaning closer to you, Nabiâanother friend of yoursâcrossed her arms and flashed a shit-eating grin.
âIs it boy problems?â
Instantly, the table explodes into chatters, all of their questions drowning each other.
âWhich one of them?â
âDid someone from Bangtan confess to you, unnie?â
âIs it Hoseok? Please say it is! I have a bet with someone from the styling department.â
âWas it Taehyung? I always thought he had a crush on you for a whiââ
âIt's not any of them, please we're just friends.â You interjected before they dig further and find truth in their questions. âIt's a different guy I've had two dates with.â
Never had you sounded more unsure of yourself until now and you had wished nobody had noticed. But one look around the table says differently. Your friendsâ eyes glinted, all of them telling you that this discussion was far from over and you find yourself already dreading opening the groupchat once you're home. But unlike them, someone wasn't satisfied with your answer and crossed her arms from the other end of the table.
âWhy so dismissive, unnie? We're all friends here, no need to be so defensive.â
Immediately, the ones closest to her snapped their heads at her with a scandalized look. Alexa was a new recruit, A half-Korean and half-Chinese who lived in the States for a better half of her life, had just joined the week before the first leg when one of the crew went into labor and had recommended her cousin as her last minute replacement until she could return.
In the short time she had been in the company, there had been whispers and none of them were positive. Rumors of an unhealthy obsession hidden beneath the skillfully applied make-up that granted her a younger and cuter appearance, hushed stories of their encounters where she'd reveal her soulmate markâinked initials, and written on her wrist is a K.S.J, something she boasted around with a smug look, as if to imply something you refuse to entertain.
It was absurd.Â
Seokjin was untethered, if he got a soulmate mark out in the open, he would've screamed it on top of the world. Delighted and in cloud nine at the thought of having someone destined for him. Not to mention, it meant that he didn't need to go through any of the shit you've gone through, going through dates after dates looking for someone better to settle down with only to be met with constant disappointment at the end of the day.
(You'd also be the first to know. He would've ran to you and asked if you manifested a mark too, but for your sanity, you pushed the thought at the back of your head as soon as it came.)
To say, to imply that Seokjinâs soulmate is the kid on the side of the table, it almost made you grimace.
âHey Alexa, I know you're just new and a foreigner but that doesn't mean we'd let you disrespect your seniors!â Minhyuk, someone who had quickly wormed into your friend group last year, had jumped to your defense.
Alexa scoffed. âI'm just saying, no need to be so secretive, unnie. Everyone in this table knows how close Bangtan is to you. Everyone is wondering if you've at least dated one of them.â
âHey Alexa, that's a bitâŠâ
âWhy are you guys looking at me like that? I'm just saying what you're all thinking,â She looks back at you. âI've seen how they look at you, surely you've at least had a fling with someone.â
Your brows shot up, incredulous and shocked by her audacity but before you could bite back, Minhyuk stood abruptly, face darkened with pure unadulterated anger.
âOh thisââ Nabi and you were quick to tug him back down to sit.Â
At the commotion, everyone in the cafeteria shifted their attention to your table, inquisitive and curious of what might've set off the resident social butterfly, someone who everyone knows the name of and has been at the end of his constant kindness.
Minhyuk is a passionate soul, especially towards his job and friends. Having been kicked out for being himself, he turned to the very skill that had his father screaming expletives at him. Recommended by Jihae, who had been visiting a nearby friend at the time and was passing by his street, had found him crying in the rain, outside the gate of his family house. She had taken him home and the rest was history.
There's never been a time when you've all hung out, five emptied bottles of Sojus later, where he wouldn't be crying, thankful for the chance your eldest had given him before turning to you, sobbing loudly and hugging you and the rest of the group in a tight grip. Heart full of gratefulness for his new found family.
So there was no shock that he had been the first one to jump at the first sign of aggression towards your group.
âEveryone is looking, hyuk. Let's calm down.â Nabi whispered to him, eyes cautious and Minhyuk grunted.
âShe's lucky we're in public, I would've torn her down for that comment.â
At the end of the table, Alexa scoffed, incredulous. âAre you seriously mad that I'm saying my opinion? Is it a crime to express their own opinion these days?â
âNot when it's as rude as yours.â
Jihae sighs. âCalm down the both of you. Remember that you're working right now.â
You didn't doubt that everyone in the company has speculated about your relationship with Bangtan. It's hard not to when the maknaes hang onto your words and comfortably play around with you, especially not when you have dinner at their dorm every other week so you didn't blame the newbie for being curious.
That's what you would've felt if she hadn't been going around planting ideas into people's heads that she might be Jinâs soulmate like the delusional slug she is.
You had half a mind to loosen your grip on Minhyuk and let him wipe the floor with her unnecessarily expensive work clothes.
Shrugging both your and Nabiâs arms from his, Minhyuk stands up again only to walk away from the table. Instantly, the rest of your group follows him as he marches through the gathered crowd in the cafeteria and in front of the closed elevator.
You trailed behind him, waiting for his eventual frustrated explosion as he always does after an encounter with Alexa since she was hired. Once you were all far enough, hidden away from the prying eyes of the public, he threw his head back and let out a loud, exasperated groan.
âThat girl I fucking swear!â He growled as combed his long hair back. âWhy did we even let her continue working after the tour?! We could've just found a better alternative, she's getting into my fucking nerves!â
Nabi sighed. âIt's not like we have a final say in this, hyuk. Whether you like it or not, we'll be stuck with her until Hyuna comes back.â
âGod,â He groaned. âYou should've let me hit her once! I'm so tired of hearing her bullshit! Surely, you've heard the lie she's spreading around right?!â
âLike Nabi has said, we can't do anything unless it starts to hurt the reputation of the idol. She's smart for not saying it outright and somehow containing it within the styling departments.â Jihae responds with a defeated shake of her head.
The answer didn't satisfy Minhyuk, who then turned to you with a pout and wide puppy eyes before promptly stomping over and taking both your hands in his.
âSurely you can pull some strings, noona? Tattle off to Namjoon hyung or Seokjin hyung, surely one of them would do something, right?â
You almost considered his suggestion. Alexa had been grating your gears ever since she arrived to replace Hyuna. You had excused her lack of cooperation with the team for being a newbie and clumsy mistakes of haphazardly leaving her items everywhere for the stress of the new environment she was suddenly put in. But for her to go around implying Seokjin is her soulmate is another can of worms you didn't even want to open.
The mere thought of her existing on the same floor as Seokjin invokes an unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach.
But unfortunately, even if you had tattled to Namjoon about her, nothing would happen since it's not too drastic of an event to fire someone over for. It's also just not a good idea overall. The tour is set next Wednesday and while Alexa doesn't cooperate with most of the team, she unfortunately got the skill to back her up. Her skills nearly compensate for her rude personality.
Almost.
âThey won't fire someone over a small argument, Hyuk. Just suck it in until Hyuna returns.â
âWhich will be in December after Japan,â He mulls it over before shaking his head. âYeah no, I don't think I can tolerate her nasty ass that long.â
The elevator opensâJihae had called it the moment they've arrived, bless herâand everyone piles in. It was a quick ride, the stylists being on the floor below the cafeteria. In a flash the metal doors parts opened and you all walked out. But before you could follow your friends back into your department, your phone vibrated from your pocket.
Slowing down, you pulled the device out and looked at who's texting you.
[13:02] Hobi: can ask you a favor            [13:02] Hobi: just an itsy bitsy favor đ€đ€            [13:02] Hobi: I promise it's harmlessđ
There's also a text from Guwon not too long ago. Something you missed while you were lost in your thoughts earlier.
[12:30] Guwon: Eat your lunch soon!            [13:03] You: hi sorry late reply, I was having lunch with my co-workers, couldnât use my phone during.            [13:03] You: I hope your lunch was goodđ
You grimaced at how robotic your reply sounded before returning to Hoseok who had sent another text.
[13:03] Hobi: don't leave me on seen pleaseđą            [13:03] Hobi: noona noona noona noona noona            [13:04] You: hoba hoba hoba hoba hoba            [13:04] Hobi: YAY            [13:04] You: how can I help you?            [13:05] Hobi: can you deliver lunch to hyung?đ            [13:05] Hobi: I would do it myself but I'm currently helping Seokjin hyung and Namjoon with the dance            [13:06] Hobi: and we both know Yoongi hyung wouldn't eat on time if I do it            [13:06] Hobi: can you do it for me?đ„ș            [13:06] You: sure, you guys still in the dance practice room?            [13:07] Hobi: ur a life saver            [13:07] Hobi: an angel in disguise            [13:07] Hobi: but yesđ            [13:08] Hobi: just knock on the door when you're heređ
âY/N?â Jihae asks and you look back up to see your group waiting for you.
âWho is it?â Nabi adds.
âBetter be news of Alexa getting fired. If not, I don't want to hear it.â Minhyuk says as he crosses his arms. You shook your head and he threw his hands up in frustration.
âGot asked to help with something but I'll be back in a moment.â
With a brief goodbye, you turned back to the elevator and directed yourself to the floor where the dance practice rooms are at.Â
The walking distance from the elevator is not too far from the dance room but seeing five familiar teenage boys speaking in hushed whispers and hitting each other's arms in front of the vending machine just a feet away from the door easily distracted you.
If they had been crowding around the machine, you would've thought they were fighting over the last snack but instead they were all facing the same direction as your destination.
Sneaking up to the five giants, you're slowly introduced to the dilemma they were hitting and pushing each other for.
âYou're the oldest, you should go and knock!â
âJust because I'm the oldest doesn't mean I should always be the first! Why are you even ordering me around?! Go ask Huening Kai instead!â
âWhy me? I can't talk in Korean, I-Iâm foreigner.â
âOh don't you pull that shit on us. How are you only a foreigner when it matters?!â
âWhat are we talking about?â
Three shrill screams pierced through the air as the five of them jumped back, awkwardly long bodies falling against and clutching onto each other for dear life, all of them huddling onto the next body for protection. But once they recognize you, Yeonjun immediately regains composure and breaks off from the cluster to stomp over to you with his bottom lip jut out as he dramatically latches onto your arm.
âNoonaa, why would you scare us like that?!â
When you first met Yeonjun, he was standing in front of the cafeteria bar in front of the exhausted cashier and the long irritated line of workers, peering up onto the menu before looking down to count his money. He looked like a little kid lost in the sea of busy adults, painfully alone and helpless as the hungry customers behind him began to complain loudly.
He had been holding up the line as he recounted his change once more, hoping he had miscounted and that he could afford what he was eyeing. Seeing his hopeful expression crumble into defeat was enough to make you approach him and buy him lunch.Â
Yoongi had teased you when he found you being trailed by another kid, saying you were collecting every doe eyed kid in the company and becoming their reliable older sister. Especially when his soulmates began to follow his footsteps.
âWhat were you guys doing? Fighting against who gets the last chip?â
Beomgyu then ran to wrap his arms around yours, the sweetest and most innocent smile plastered on his face as the two boys began to walk you forward, the destination? The dance studio.
âYou know that we love you right, noona?â
Why these kids are genuinely intimidated by your sweet Hoba is beyond you. The man screams and flinches at the smallest of bugs daring to exist two feet away from him. Still, you entertained them with a raise of an eyebrow and Yeonjun continued.
âOur favorite make-up noona, the greatest sister figure we have ever had, my savior and my salvation, our dearest creditââ
âOkay, what do you guys want?â
You all stopped in front of the dance room door. IDOL was blasting on the other side of the wall, the floor vibrating with the beat. Although muffled, you could pick up the sound of shoes squeaking against the floor and heavy footsteps accompanying the song.
âCould you pretty please knock on the door?â Beomgyu asks, pleading and also hopeful and the rest of his brothers chimed from behind you with their own versions of the request which ended up sounding like a bunch of warbled words.
âCouldn't you have done that yourselves?â
âBut they're busy and J-Hope sunbae is scary.â Taehyun quietly adds behind you.
âHoba? He's the sweetest though?â
âOkay, let's not lie to ourselves now,â Huening Kai shoots back before motioning to the door. âJust⊠knock and we'll handle it from there. We promise!â
âCross our hearts.â Taehyun says, drawing a cross over his chest. The other four follow.
Dance teacher Hoseok to you is a hoax. You've never been subjected to his intense scrutiny and harsh perfectionist side, always managing to slip past or only being able to meet him outside of the workplace where he'd be far relaxed and cheerful.Â
Sure there's been plenty of photographic and recorded evidence posted in the group chat but you still find it hard to believe he's more frightening than the bugs that scare him off the room.
âHe's not that scary, guys.â
Taehyun scoffs. âEasy for you to say.â
âCrush privileges.â Soobin quietly adds.
âWhatââ
The door swings open before you could ask what he meant and Jungkook steps out of the room.Â
In a span of a second, the memories of his drunken confession flashed before your eyes. From the moment he had entered your home with bags of snacks to the way his voice had sounded, hushed and shaky, when he asked you for a kiss.
Seeing him again outside the concert where Namjoon and Yoongi had made sure there were no contacts between the two of you, evoked a weird sense of longing within you. Having absolutely no contact with Jungkook for two days had you missing and recollecting your past memories with him. In the short amount of time you've been away, you wondered about many things.
From something as headache-inducing variations of hows and whys questioning his attraction to you to something more simple and short like âhow is he feeling right now?â.
It was a dumb question with an obvious answer yet you wanted to know. Curiosity and anxiety clawing at your chest.Â
Is your friendship still okay?Â
Did rejecting someone this time finally ruin your entire dynamic with the group?Â
Should you have chosen someone like your sister had told you to do?Â
They have plagued your mind and haunted you in your waking days yet the moment you finally see him, your mouth dries up and your voice dies in your throat.
But before you could even muster the courage to talk to him, he turned his attention to the boys who had retreated behind you the moment the door opened and greeted them with a short bow before walking away, completely ignoring you. Pain blooms in your chest like a thorned vine wrapping and strangling your heart tighter and tighter as you watch his back disappear around the corner.
âDid sunbae just ignore noona?â
âIs that even possible?â
âI didn't hallucinate that, right?â
âNoona, are you okay?â Soobinâs concerned voice, soft and cautious, brings you back to reality and you turn to them, a precariously built smile on your face.
âWhy wouldnât I?â
The five shared a look as you stepped into the studio, exposing you to the two figures laid on the floor, heaving and panting. The main topics of your thoughts were sitting at the far corner next to the black plastic table while Hoseok stood in the middle of the room, unaffected by whatever had happened and was chugging the water from the small bottle in hand.
As if he had grown a sixth sense for you, he suddenly spun around, a wide grin brightening his stern face.
âNoona!â
At this, the two men on the floor perks up. Namjoon merely waves before promptly dropping back down, Jimin and Taehyung only smiled at you, looking spent from whatever routine Hoseok had them do before turning to the two tallest. Seokjin had pushed himself up to stand and approach the black plastic table from the other end of the room where a dozen take outs were.
As Hoseok approached you, his gaze then found the cluster of five heads peeking through the sides of the entrance and laughed.
âYouâve got five ducklings following you, noona, didn't know you started collecting more after our maknaes.â He jokes before turning to the teens and waving them over. The group then spread to occupy the space in the doorway and bowed. âWhat can I do for you guys?â
They suddenly disappear behind the wall but you hear them hitting each other and their whisper-shouts, it took a long while before Soobin was pushed out of the shadow and forced to talk to their sunbae. The painfully shy teen shuffles over, shoulders folded forward and taking the smallest of steps forward before stuttering a bow.
A wide smile brightens Hoseok's face, endeared by the boyâs overly formal actions.
âH-Hi sunbae.â
âHello, Soobinie.â
âWe-we we're just wondering if we-we could watch you guys? Practicing dancing I meanâNot that you sunbaes need it cause you're professionals!âI mean of course you still need to practice to be better at dancing andâwait noââ
âYah Soobin, stop embarrassing us like this!â Yeonjun scolds and immediately, the boy almost broke his neck with how face he looked over his shoulder.
âThen go do it yourself!â
âWe don't mind, as long as you guys stay in a corner like good kids then we'll all be good!â Hoseok cuts in before an argument ensues.
There's a tap on your shoulder and you look over to see Seokjin standing behind you, a gentle smile playing on his plush lips, both hands hidden behind him.
There's an awkwardness that hung in the air as you both gazed into each other's eyes before he cleared his throat and began.
âHave you eaten yet?â
âYes.â You lie. Jin caught it.
Turning to face him fully, he then takes one of your hands and forces your fingers to hold the neatly folded top of a paper takeout bag.
âI've packed Yoongiâs portion here as well as an extra for you.â
âYou didn't need to, I already ate.â
âI even had them order some soft tofu soup, you were craving it last week, right?â
It was sweet being loved so selflessly by him. It tasted like the sweetest nectar from the garden of Eden with a foul aftertaste once your mind reminded you of your sins against the man and the thorned tendrils of guilt coiled tighter around your chest, its sourness easily overlapping the sweetness of his love.
After Jungkook pretending you didn't exist earlier, having Jin, someone who you didn't even know still admired you all these years while you had messed around with many faces and came to work with some of their marks on your skin, expressing his care had you almost bursting at the seams.Â
It enrages you thinking about Alexa going around spreading her bullshit spiel about being Jinâs soulmate. As if she deserved a morsel of his attention.
Nobody deserves Seokjin, not even you.
âThank you Jinnie, but I already ate.â You then remembered your promise to return to your friends soon. âAnd Jihae is expecting me back immediately.â
âCoffee and toast is not lunch.â He deadpans as he takes your hand and forces it to close around the pack. âJust eat it with Yoongi, he'd be happy to be able to eat with someone and Iâll handle Jihae noona.â
âHow the hell did you know what I had for lunch?â
Shock crossed over his face and he brought a hand over his mouth. âI was right? I just had a hunch on what you ate.â
âThatâs a bit creepy, old man.â
âMaybe itâs a soulmate mark manifesting.â He shrugs but you doubt he meant it in a joking way.
âYouâre way past the age, give it up hyung.âÂ
You both turned to the door at Jungkookâs voice. Like earlier, he had strode in without acknowledging your presence, something Seokjin had noticed immediately. His eyes slid to the five boys tentatively pushing each other to the empty corner of the studio before looking back at their youngest.
âHow could you insult me like this? I fed you with my hands, you should be addressing me formally with a full 90° bow!âÂ
âI shouldâve bitten your hands at least once back then.â Jungkook jokingly muses.
Before you could witness their banter explode, thereâs a tug on your shirt and you spun around to face Hoseok who had nudged his head to the door. Jin had already marched towards the maknae before you could even thank him so you left.
Once you were both outside the studio, Hoseok closed the door behind and hugged you.
âWh-what is this?â
âA thank you hug for being the sacrifice and feeding the grumpy dragon instead.â He says with a laugh but you knew what he was trying to do.Â
âIâm fine, Hoba. I didnât expect us to be buddy buddy again after what happened.â
He sighed.
âHe still shouldnât have done that. Iâm sure Seokjin hyung will talk to him about it later.â
Stepping back, you shook your head. âNo need, I understand why heâs acting like that.â
His eyes regarded your face for a moment before pulling you back in for a hug and nuzzling his head on top of yours. âYou donât have to defend him noona, heâs acting like a child. It's our duty as his hyungs to fix that up.â
âPlease donât. It feels like youâre taking sides, he might think it's unfair.â
He laughs. âAre you kidding? âCause from what Iâm seeing, heâs being a petulant child. He should handle the rejection with more grace when it's his fault heâs in this predicament. You know Seokjin hyung warned him, right?â
âHe told me when he and Tae took him home.â
âThen you should know better than defend him.â You opened your mouth to refute but he pressed a finger to your lips. âDon't start. He's not the same sixteen years old we had to raise back then, he needs correcting.â
With two hands on your shoulders, he then spun you around and began to push you towards the elevator, leaving no room for an argument.Â
Once he had led you back to the locomotive, he briefly stepped in to push the correct button for the production floor and stepped back and waved as the elevator wall slowly closed to a shut.
âNow go feed hyung and yourself before you go back to work. Thank you again noona and see you later.
âSpecial delivery for a grumpy hairless cat!â
A beat.
Then came a grumbled: âCome in.â
Punching the proper strings of numbers on the door code, you open the door to the genius lab to find Yoongi sitting in front of his computer, one ear off of his headphones as he goes back to a specific second again and again.
Situating yourself on the couch next to the door, you place the paper bag on the coffee table and slowly unload all its contents, hoping its smell is enough to deter him from his work just for a second.
Taking one of the containers, you open it to see bulgogi generously sprinkled on top of rice. The savory smell of the dish wafting out almost immediately, and Yoongi visibly perks up from his table; if perking up meant him temporarily stopping his incessant clicking and head tilting a little to the side.
âIs it all bulgogi?â
Placing down the container, you opened the other one to reveal the same dish except this time with fried rice.
âYeah, you want fried rice or no?â
âWhatever you like less.â He grumbled as he returned to his work.
âThat's not a proper answer.â
âJust take whatever you want, I like either.â He muttered.
Staring at the food on the table, you found yourself at a crossroads. The fried rice looks more appetizing than the plain white rice on the other container but you've had enough sodium for the week, having challenged Taehyung, Jimin and Jin to who can eat more ramyeon in one sitting the day before the concert.
But today just doesn't feel like a plain rice type of day.Â
But fried rice isn't healthy.
âJust choose please, I don't know what I want either.â You groaned out, frustrated.
With a grunt, the man took off his headphones and turned to face you before maneuvering himself closer to the table and picking up the container with the plain rice.
âStop thinking so much about what is healthy or not,â He remarked as he took a pair of chopsticks from the paper bag. âI could hear your thoughts even with my headphones on and my back turned.â
âThen why tell me to choose if you already knew?â
Yoongi only shrugged as he took his first bite, prompting you to take yours. He seems to mull over something as he chews, staring at the food on the table for a while before placing the container down and leaving the room without a word.
You had learned not to question his confusing actions throughout the years, even then you couldn't help but be bewildered.
When he returned, he was carrying two drinks in one hand. Sprite and Kombucha. Settling back on his chair, he placed down the bottle of Kombucha in front of him before opening the can of sprite and placing it in front of you.
âI don't have any straws on me so you'll have to just chug it.â
People don't usually notice it but you think Jin and Yoongi are more similar in how they show their affections, just in different volumes. Seokjinâs care is always voiced out, always asking whether you want something or not and offering to do or make it for you while Yoongi just somehow always knows what you want and does it wordlessly. Both of them are always willing to provide.
If you had asked them for something as ludicrous as fried cotton candy with melted cheese on top, Jin would complain and express his disgust openly, ranting about the strenuous process while holding the handle of the pan and a spatula in the other while Yoongi would cook it without questioning your sanity.
Either way, it never fails to make your chest warm.
âThank you, Yoongs.â
He suddenly takes a huge bite, bringing the container close to his face before humming out his response, easily flustered as ever.
You both eat your food in silence. With years of friendship under your belt, you have learned to enjoy the serenity Yoongi brings. It had been rough at the start, his quietness matched with his stoic expression had often led to misunderstandings where you often thought he thinks of you badly for being close to his brothers, especially after Jinâs confession.
He had confronted you once he heard it from Namjoonâwho had immediately tattled onto his hyung after you had told him not to tell anyoneâ, saying he simply had problems expressing himself. You could remember how his hands, despite being entangled with each other, shook with his voice, could recall how he had forced himself to hold eye contact with you when he always had difficulties in holding one.
It was thoughtful and that was the first time you had felt the tingles of warmth in your chest. Teenage you had her feet swept off by a stuttering mess of a guy with eye contact issues.
Despite Jin being the first in the group to confess, Yoongi was the first to touch your heart.
âWhy are you looking at me like that?â
You tilt your head. âLike what?â
A conflict of emotion crossed his eyes as he struggled to find the words but before he could, your phone vibrated from your pocket.
[13:54] Guwon: I'm at the cafe close to your building
You almost choked on your spit, surprised by his message and Yoongi hurriedly put his food down to pat your back. His office was on the other side of the city, why would he drive so far just to get some coffee with you during work days?Â
Love, a voice answers and you immediately waved it off.
There was no way he had fallen in love with you in such a short time. You have been on two dates with him yet he hadn't asked you to be his girlfriend when there's been multiple times throughout those days and nights he had the chance to do so.
During nights where you'd restlessly toss around on your bed, you found yourself facing one more problem outside of your friends.
You didn't notice when it started when Guwon began to make your stomach churn and it bothers you to the nines at how you were being suspicious of him.
Guwon is a genuinely nice guy with a legit and grand background from what you learned throughout the short time you've been hanging out, his case stories of helping out women stuck in abusive relationships and bringing justice to those the law has failed once proven true when you've typed his name on Naver. The man didn't deserve the doubt twisting in your stomach nor the aversion you were slowly gaining towards him.
Your conflicting feelings surrounding your friends' confessing and odd behaviors shouldn't be affecting your relationship with the man you will marry at some point yet it ended up doing so.
There was something foul and bitter simmering in your guts these days whenever you force yourself to think about him during your time. It burns like bile and tasted like betrayal, almost like unfaithfulness; you try not to think hard on why you feel this way but it's hard not to when Jimin and Taehyung's jealousy keeps flashing behind your eyelids with every blink.
[13:55] You: Oh wow, which one?            [13:55] Guwon: The one on the left side, Areum Cafe.            [13:55] Guwon: Are you free to get a cup of coffee with me?            [13:56] Guwon: Sorry for springing this up on you            [13:55] Guwon: I missed youđ
âWho is it?â
âIt's Guwon,â You say, scratching your head. âHe says he's at the cafe down the road and wants to meet up.â
Yoongi placed down his food and stared at you, long and hard. Cat-like eyes narrowed and observing as he leaned back on his chair. You feel his eyes regard your body language before sighing.
âI assume you need help getting out? I'm not as⊠bold as the younger ones but I think I can help⊠somehowâ
His appearance would surely help tamper down the discomfort that had bloomed with the recent revelations. Yoongi is intimidating as he is caring, having him next to you would ensure you a shorter time spent with the man, as well as prohibit him from pulling another surprise kiss on you.
But why are you so uncomfortable spending time with Guwon anyways?
You didn't have any problems before, even wanted to sleep with him the night prior so why now?
âHowâd you know I need help?â
âYou looked like your mother just told you to come to another date.â
Immediately, you ironed out the frown you didn't realize had marred your face.Â
âI thought you would've been delighted you've finally met your match?â
âI-I am.â
Yoongi clicks his tongue, the sound echoing louder in the silence of the room. âTry again. A little more sure this time.â
You sighed and relented, knowing the man wouldn't let you take a step out of the door if you lied to him again.
âEverything just started feeling wrong for some reason.â
He raised an eyebrow at that, eyes widening with surprise. âHow so?â
âYou know, when Jimin and Taehyung came over last night to make sure I got home safe, they were acting strange towards Guwon.â When he made no move to respond, you continued. âWhen Guwon suddenly kissed me, Taehyung looked⊠scary. Jimin too, if you can believe it.â
âI actually do.â
âWhat do you mean by that?â
Yoongi goes silent again, mulling over something as his gaze finally met yours for the first time that day. âFor someone so perceptive, you're a bit oblivious.â
âWhat is it?â
âI won't elaborate, I'll let you realize things on your own.â
You groaned, facepalming because ain't no way Yoongi just added more fuel to the forest fire that is your thoughts. The man doesnât even look aware of what his words had done, reaching over and innocently sipping on his kombucha once more.
âBack to what you were saying, why do you think it felt wrong to see Guwon?â
With his calm voice and the deafening silence of the room, you found yourself comparing Yoongi, who even has his hands folded over his crossed jean-clad legs, to a therapist and laughed.
âDidnât know I was due for a therapy session when I dropped off your lunch.â
âWell I did, so deal with it,â He placed down his bottle. âDo you need my help or not?â
âIs breathing important? Obviously yes.â
He nods and stands, but not before saying, âI hope you know this conversation is far from over.â
While his presence had given you more peace of mind, leaving the BigHit building with Yoongiâwho had forgone his usual outdoor style of beanies and big prescription glasses matched with a black mask in order to appear more intimidating, claiming the beanie softens his edges, something you playfully rolled your eyes atâstill felt like walking into your doom.
The moment he steps out of the building, suddenly everyone's eyes are on him. The cool stoicness surrounding him commanded attention and the people listened without complaint, not when Yoongi looked like every highschool teenager's bad boy wet dreams.
Strolling into the cafe is easier with Yoongi trailing behind you like a guard dog; or in his case, a guard panther.
There's something about having the rapper, who has never shown a hint of romantic attraction to you in all your years being their friend, accompanying you to meet the man you might marry once the discomfort born from conflicting feelings subsides. It makes your heart jittery and your stomach twisting uncomfortably, the nerves from meeting Guwon only adding fuel to the fire.
It felt improper somehow, as if you were breaking an invisible rule you're yet to uncover from the depths of your soul.
The tempting aroma of freshly baked buttery goods and roasted coffee beans greeted you the moment Yoongi had pushed the door open for the both of you. In the controlled volume of mixed chatters from different tables, a calm acoustic instrumental flies through the air and you almost forgot what you came here for.Â
It didn't take long for you to find Guwon sitting on the table farthest from the entrance, secluded and away from the wide glass pane windows. When the door had opened with a chime, the man had raised his head from his phone and met your eyes. You try not to linger on how his expression stiffened when he realized you had Yoongi in tow before a smile wipes it away.
âYou see him?â Yoongiâs voice grumbled from behind and you nod. Guwon stands, the sound of the chair scraping against the floor catching his attention. âThat him?â
âYeah, I don't think he's happy I brought you with me.â
He chuckled lightly. âGood.â
Guwon met you both halfway, arms opened wide to greet you with a hug and you let him. When you pull away, his hand casually falls to your waist and your skin scrawls.Â
Immediately, Yoongiâs eyes drop to look at it but before any hint of emotion breaks onto his face, his cool eyes are already back on your suitorâs face.
âWhich one of your kids am I given the pleasure of meeting this time?â Guwon asks before offering his free hand to Yoongi who had taken it with a carefully crafted blank expression and unrelenting stare.
Seeing him remain in eye contact with Guwon surprises you. The man, even after your years of being friends, had never held eye contact for longer than five seconds outside the time he had opened up to you about his struggle with expressing himself.
It made you curious. Why is he provoking him? Is he testing Guwon?
âI'm not one of her kids, I'm actually older than her. Min Yoongi.â
âYoo Guwon, a pleasure to meet you.â
Even when both their hands had long pulled away from each other, their eyes lingered longer. Challenging on Guwon's part, and taunting on Yoongi's as he stared back, completely unfazed.
Seeing them silently engage in a dick measuring contest, something you didnât expect Yoongi to ever partake in since he had been loud in his distaste for his own gender, irked you. The tightening grip on your waist didn't help, wanting nothing but to slap it off if it wasn't for your promise to your mother to not fuck this up.
âIf you don't tell them what you're uncomfortable with, then they'll continue on doing it. The other guys out there aren't like us who'd feel guilty if we knew, I fear that they might take advantage of you instead, noona.â Hobiâs voice echoes in your mind.
Sorry Hoba, I'm trying to make this work. But if this behavior continues, then I'll listen to you.
âI thought you idols are often more busy than the average folk?â
Yoongi sucks air through his teeth before responding. âWe were in the middle of a fitting prior. I hope you don't mind me keeping watch, can't have our staff getting distracted by heartthrobs like you.â
Guwon laughed, a little louder than usual.
âShe's been telling you guys about me?â
âAll the good things, don't worry.â He then turns to you, eyes searching your face for a hint of extreme discomfort before continuing. âI'll go order the others some food.â
Sparing one last nod of his head at the man next to you, Yoongi then turns towards the counter to order. The moment he was out of earshot, dread drops onto your stomach like an anvil and you looked up at the Guwon whose eyes were already trained onto yours, a lazy smile stretched on his lips.
âI assume youâll be needed back once heâs done?â
â Yeah, Iâm sorry it's just⊠Wrong timing.â
He waves you off. âNonsense, itâs my fault for bringing you out of your work. They wonât fine you for this, right?â
âI went with one of my bosses, of course they wonât.â
His eyes studied your face for a moment, searching. For what? You donât want to know. When he had found whatever it was, his face melts into a softer, more mellow expression and your heart clenches. The outpouring of awe in his eyes felt heavy and thick, it clogs up your throat and weighs your already strained form.
âI missed you.â He whispers with the sweetest of voices. âDid you miss me?â
âI-I do, kept thinking about you...â
The lie weighted like lead on your tongue and burned like acid. Compared to the genuineness practically dripping from his lips, your words fall short in your ears. With the way his softened expression crumpled into a frown, you knew he also noticed the hesitance in your voice.
âWhatâs wrong?â
âIâm sorry. With the tour being so close and more sponsorship offers coming in, it got a bit stressful than usual.â
When his arms reach around your shoulders and pull you flush to his chest, you will yourself not to tense. You were both hugging in the middle of the coffee shop and you could feel the nearby patronsâ stare pressing onto your body, judging and unpleasant. Embarrassment burns your cheeks and the desire to push him away grows.
Even Jimin and Taehyung doesnât dare to get affectionate in public, none of your friends ever did anything more than a hand on your shoulder to lead you to the correct direction or a pat on the back when Jungkook had more sleep and food ingested, and was bouncing off the walls and you just happen to be assigned to him.
You wanted nothing more but to tell him to back off but the words got stuck in your throat.Â
âJust a tip, she doesnât like PDA so maybe step away?â
Immediately, Guwon scrambles off of you.Â
âIâm sorry, I didnât know.â Guwon says, his hand falling from your shoulder and down to your arm. You shivered.
A firm and familiar hand lands on your shoulder before Yoongi tugs you back to stand next to him. Thereâs a set in jaw as his eyes narrowed down at Guwon, the hand replacing Guwon on your arm is tense and rigid but not enough to hurt.Â
You sensed that he had a lot to say once you were out of sight, all of them expressing his distaste for the man youâre set to eventually marry. Even when you were all standing there, you could already imagine the curses and nitpicked details pouring out of his lips.
âWeâll be going back now,â Yoongi says to Guwon, voice tight as if holding back his emotions as he curtly bowed. âOur leader is already demanding us to come back so weâll have to cut this meeting short. It was nice meeting you.â
Guwon looked incredulous at the turn of events, eyes shuttering before he nodded in understanding and turned to flash a smile at you.
âMessage me when youâre home, alright?â
Yoongi didnât even linger long enough for you to respond, already walking away. By the time you turned to look at him, he was three gaits away from leaving the coffee shop. With a dip of your head, you sprint to follow closely behind the man now pushing through the door.Â
You could understand the reason for his irritation, always the most protective out of the bunch and the one with the most to say about men. To see your closest female friend be made uncomfortable by her suitor, a stranger in his eyes, there was no doubt heâd be livid.
But why does he have to walk so fast?!Â
Youâre not physically built to match his pace, he takes one step and you have to do three. It was infuriating but you couldnât exactly scream at him to slow down in public, catching the attention of other people would only create more problems than you both could take on.
He eventually slows down to a halt in front of the double glass doors of the BigHit building and you were able to finally catch up to him. In the lobby, you both calmly approached the elevator, a complete juxtaposition of how hasty you two were not a moment before.Â
But the moment the metal doors of the elevator shuts, isolating you and Yoongi from the rest, he begins.
âI donât like him.â
It was stupid but you wanted to know what specific trait he had found irksome.
(Deep down, you knew you were finding a reason to stop, to let go of Guwon and stop this stupid charade.)
âHe didnât even notice you were uncomfortable earlier. When you told us that heâs good, I thought heâd be decent, not top grade bare minimum.â
âH-He was actually good, believe it or not.â
âSo he's a pretentious prick?â
You sighed. âH-He justââ
âHyung wouldn't approve.â Yoongi cuts in, his hardened eyes now piercing through yours, almost taunting you to bite back. âNot just him, everyone wouldn't. You'd break poor Jiminieâs heart if you continued seeing him once he found out how he acted today.â
You knew he was guilt tripping you and it was working. But you swore Guwon was better than the others, he had treated you with a gentleness and care your friends had shown yet something had changed after that night.Â
Was Taehyung's clinginess, their presence in general, been the catalyst?
Had he felt threatened by them showing up? You had established early on that they're your boss and your mother would've mentioned your relationship with the boys in passing at least, so why would he feel threatened by them?
âI know what you're thinking but it doesn't work like that.â His voice, now softer than it had been earlier, pierces through the trance youâve submerged into. âEven if you had said youâre only friends with them, it's human nature for us to still feel intimidated even if we're just friends.â
âThat's dumb.â
He shrugged. âMen are dumb, I'm just slightly better than the rest.â
âThat's debatable.â You joked and he raised an eyebrow.
âYour taste is questionable.â He shot back and you hit his arm in response, making him laugh but it dissolves as fast as it came. âI'm serious, hyung won't like it if you continue meeting Guwon.â
âI know, I can already hear him and we're not even there yet.â
âDonât be dumb, if you want a husband so bad, tell aunt to wait for us to renew our contract this October then I'll marry you.âÂ
He meant it as a joke, you knew that, but you couldn't stop the butterflies in your stomach from fluttering wildly. You're suddenly reminded of a scene from years ago, his alcohol-flushed cheeks pulled taut by the dopey smile stretching his lips wide and his slurred voice admitting something youâuntil todayâhave no recollection of what had been uttered.
You both have been battered to the nines, drunken out of your minds and stumbling over the smallest rocks on the street by the time Seokjin and Namjoon had found you halfway home. It was a miracle you both got off unscathed with how giggly and dumbed down you both were.
âBold of you to assume I'd say yes.â
âI got wealth, I got a good mug on me, what else would you need?â
âSeokjin also got those.â
He pondered long and hard, sucking air through his teeth before he turned to you again with a glint in his eyes.
âYou know what they say about my tongue right?â
He couldnât say he didnât expect the punch in the arm that followed soon after.
When the elevator door opens and you both go straight for the dance studio, the conversation about Guwon is put on pause and you dread the moment Seokjin hears what had transpired in the coffee shop when suddenly, Yoongi stills and hissed out a curse.
âShit, I forgot Jungkookâs muffins.â

We're in this together.
requested by @alexandra3719 saying:Can I request Rhea with depressed reader?
pairing: Rhea Ripley x fem reader
genre:angst
summary: even when you're feeling low,Rhea is here for u.
A/N: this made me get war flashbacks, also listen to this song to get the vibe!
â ËïœĄâđâàčàŁ
Today,you felt empty.
Despite all the sun,the birds chirping and the blue sky illuminating the day,you still felt dark inside,as if it was raining in your heart.
You didn't have the strength to wash yourself or to go out, only getting out of bed to do basic tasks, like going to the bathroom or eating.
This bad feeling was eating you whole and to make it worse, your girlfriend Rhea wasn't here to comfort you because of her packed schedule in California, but she called you every night to make sure you were okay.
Rhea was your safe space, your comfort person, and your anchor, holding you to the ground, never letting you go away.
You two met at your worst, and she helped you to heal and to get better.
You fell in love with her because of this: for her patience and for her confidence in you, because she was sure and confident about you healing from your problems.
The sound of a car honking outside took you out of your trance, and you realised you were staring at the ceiling again.
You missed your girlfriend strongly.
You missed her scent, her lips, her warmth, her laugh, her muscular arms and her mama bear hugs.
Trying to fill the Rhea-void (you liked to call it like that),you picked up your phone on your white nightstand, instantly opening the facetime app.
Rhea answered after 4 or 5 rings, and you were instantly cheered up just by seeing her face.
"Hey,pumpkin! How are you doing?" She asked cheerfully, her enthusiasm transmitting itself onto you.
"Not bad but not good" You shrugged, and she asked the reason of that response.
"I think I'm in that period again,I feel like nothing has got a purpose,I don't have strength to do anything and I'm just sad. What do I do?" You started rambling about your feelings to Rhea, while she was listening carefully.
"Oh,baby. I'm sorry." Her pout was heavily visible, and you arched your left eyebrow.
"For what?"
"For not being here for you when you need me the most. I promise to come home as soon as possible, okay? I think tonight I'm gonna come home,so if it's like that you'll find me next to you in bed." She admitted with a smile, eager to see your cute face.
"Thank you,Rhea. I actually don'tknow what i would do without you." You started to get emotional, but you shook your head trying to get rid of the newly formed tears.
"Oh,baby,it's nothing. Remember,we're in this togheter, and im not gonna ever leave you."

another member is in love with you.txt
â type: bts x gn! reader  â navigation

â  c/w: depiction of throwing up in Jiminâs part
NAMJOON | âSince when did you switch to another movie?â
Though the haze with which heâd come home with had not disappeared entirely, it did lessen. However, with this sentence being the first and only thing heâd spoken to you the entire dayâŠwell, you couldnât help but be just a tad ornery.
âWelcome back to the world of the living,â you jeer. âWe do hope you enjoy your stay here.â
But something is undeniably wrong and itâs not the silence or the faraway gleam of his expression that gives it away but rather the absolute lack of reaction. His hand still monotonously brushes up against your leg that sits perched up in his lap but heâs simply not here.
âJoon,â you call out, a stern new tone lilting your voice. It stirs him enough to break whatever trance he self-imposed and lifting his head, Namjoon blearily blinks up like one would after a long nap.
âWhatâs with you?â
âWhat do you think of Yoongi?â
Sitting half-turned on the sofa with a distinct wrinkle of an oncoming frown, he awaits your answer. One you donât know.
âYoongi?â you parrot, all of a sudden being the confused one. âWhatâŠwhat does Yoongi have to do with anything?â
âLike are you two close?â
A beat of silence drags on as you stare at each other. It is frustrating being asked something you did not understand and yet even more so looking into Namjoonâs eyes and having no idea what is it thatâs sitting behind them.
âUhâŠnot really?â at last you cautiously reply. âHe texts me something funny every now and then but thatâs it.â
âWhat kind of âsomething funnyâ?â
The room tumbles into another bout of silence. Slowly you tuck your legs away and though his fingers clutch repeatedly around the emptied air as if the sudden domestic absence has hurt him, the tone of his voice is just too damn imperial for you to care.
âMemes, cat videos,â unwittingly, a part of you â not so agreeable part â breaks free and arching an equally damning eyebrow, you goad him on: âWhy? You want to have a look?â
He thinks of it, he genuinely weighs it over, you could see it in the way his pupils dart to the side, half-calculating, half-ashamed of the possibility. By the time that he wistfully utters: âno, thereâs no needâ it is too late. The tranquil peace of a quiet evening has thoroughly evaporated â what lingers in the air now is terse and partly hidden.
You may not know Yoongi but Namjoon knows Yoongi and he knows that there is something soft that quirks his lips at the mere mention of your name. That the way his gaze follows you around is just a touch too tender. Safe to say, it all goes unspoken â it is Yoongi after all â and Namjoon doesnât know whether itâs for the better or worse. There is a certain kind of cathartic appeal to just shouting things aloud, consequences be damned, but as it stands, for now at least, everything is quiet and nothing is resolved.
Still, Yoongi doesnât bother you â shouldnât that be enough? He has the freedom to feel how he feels, just not the right to act upon it. And the fact is that it wasnât Yoongi per se that was ruining his relationship right now; Namjoon was doing it quite well all by himself.
Peeking at you from the corner of the eye, he finds you sitting blue. Blue as in bathed in the blue light of the working TV although you do appear quite sad â all shrunken away into the corner, staring at the screen but not seeing anything.
Youâve had a fight.
He just started a fight.
Drawing a curt sigh, Namjoon inches himself a bit closer, acutely monitoring every last bit of you, down to the microexpressions. The slightly stretched out bottom lip, the tightly wound arms around your stomach, just the slight, almost imperceptible crease in between your eyebrows â yes, most certainly, youâve just had a fight.
Still despite Namjoon moving ever so closer, slyly crawling back into your good graces both metaphorically and physically, you donât make a move to deny him or cuss him out. In fact, you donât make any move and once again he doesnât know if thatâs for the better or worse.
âIâm sorry,â he says and itâs earnest â you both know it is. You may not know that heâs saying sorry for more than just this but that too is earnest. âI donât want us to fight.â
âThen donât start no fights,â spitefully, you bite back but if your non-reaction was anything to go by as Namjoon places a palm on your knee, he will be forgiven.
YOONGI | Well, I should count my blessings it wasnât Jungkook. Chiefly, thatâs the first thought that pops into his head when on a random Tuesday in the most random of practice rooms, he sees the contact picture saved as Jiminâs phone lights up. Yoongi knows that picture, he took that picture. Which of course prompts the question how did Jimin get his hands on it because last time anyone checked you were Yoongiâs partner and not anyone elseâs.
Sliding to unlock the call, heâs hoping like never before that it wonât about to change.
âYes?â
âYoongi?â instantly, you wonder. âWhereâs Jimin?â
âDonât know. Why do youââ fuck, his voice cracked. âWhy do you want him? I mean, talk to him?â
âI donât even know myself, dude,â loudly, you complain. âHe called me some time ago, saying thereâs something uber important to talk about and now I canât get a hold of him anymore.â
Just then when Yoongiâs heart is about to free fall right to the bottom of his stomach, the doors to this very random practice room open and because life has a cruel and twisted sense of irony, itâs Jimin who steps through. Lately, heâs been looking haggard and it had been an unspoken agreement between the boys that his problems laid with album production but now, in one hand holding the love of his life and in the other what probably was his brotherâs heart yearning for one he couldnât have, Yoongi wonders whether itâs you whose keeping Jimin up at night with guilt. You and the smiling picture he definitely shouldn't have.
For a moment they simply stare at each other, without speaking a word. Like a clash of two worlds, the collective breath has been knocked out of the room and not even the clock pinned to the wall can cut through the sheer volume of silence.
At last, Yoongi gathers himself and stretching out the phone, he makes sure that his tone is nothing but utterly monotone.
âItâs ______________.â
Jimin grows deathly pale. His widened eyes jump from the phone in Yoongi's hands to Yoongi himself and like a deer in headlights, he keeps standing still. If his dry lips part to mutter something, no sound leaves him. The only thing he can muster is an awkward incline to indicate some kind of bow. Yoongi cards him back the phone, pretending he canât hear your voice repeatedly questioning âhello?â on the other line and quickly steps out of the room.
It takes him three more hours than usual to get home. By that time youâre soundly asleep, clutching at the shirt Yoongi had so carelessly discarded on the bed this very morning. He quite earnestly wishes to go back to that moment, call in sick and not let either of you move out of the bed.
Despite him most definitely not wanting to, the smile creeping on his face is by now an instinctual. You could make him beam like a spring sunshine by just waking up. He loves you he knows that. He loves Jimin and Jimin as it turns out loves you. The question is of course â do you love Jimin as well?
Maybe he couldâŠshare?
âNo, no,â Yoongi shakes his head, muttering to himself in the pale yellow light of the nightlamp. âWhat the fuck am I even thinking?â
How would that work? He gets you from Monday to Thursday only to then card you over to Jimin for the remaining week?
Glimpsing at you slumbering, half-nestled underneath the duvet, he canât help but shudder. If you would ever learn what he just thought, it wouldnât matter whether you love Jimin or not, because sure as hell Yoongi wouldnât be alive to learn that fact.
Safe to say, he doesnât get a wink of sleep.
As Yoongi tiredly observes you getting ready, there is an aggravating, oozing cut on his heart and every single action of yours pokes a big salted thumb right in its middle. Did you made your hair with the same level of precision when you went on a date with him? Did you dig through numerous outfits as desperately for him, trying, no, feeling the need to look good?
By the time, youâre done, heâs sitting on the bed, bleeding dry. Still, there are some things to consider â you were getting ready in his bedroom, it was his shirt you were pulling over your head and it was his initials hanging on a dainty chain down your neck.
⊠as it turns out, a drunken second date could lead to many things, be it a custom jewelry or a tattoo of someoneâs name on their back orâŠleft butt cheek, to be more precise.
You had a history together and he could only hope that it meant something to you.
âIâm going to meet up withââ
âJimin after work.â
You swerve to gander at him, frowning as you do so but Yoongi doesnât explain how he knows you will. Only wishes a succinct âdonât be out too lateâ and lets you out of his grasp.
It wasnât like him to chain anyone down and you wouldnât love him if he did. This is one of those things he just has to trust you with and maybe in time, heâll learn to trust Jimin again.
True to your promise, when the clock strikes six youâre not at home like you usually would be. At first seven passes, then eight, then nine. Yoongi still gives you the benefit of the doubt. But when the clock starts crawling half past eleven, his knee cannot stop bouncing and his mouth cannot stop gnawing on his own nails. However, just when he no longer can stand the veritable avalanche of anxiety bucking him under, you drag yourself through the door. All complaints and accusations swiftly evaporate from the tip of his tongue as Yoongi takes in just how dead you appear. Your expression is permanently frozen in a state of hurt confusion so much so that when Yoongi slides the jacket over your shoulders, you donât seem to notice his presence.
Itâs only around one in the morning, when staring at a steaming mug of warm tea, you dare to whisper the revelation Yoongi already knows.
âJimin said heâs in love with me.â
âI know.â
He cringes as the hurt in your eyes now finds him. Sweet heaven, how could Jimin ever do this.
âYou knew?â incredulously, you question. âYou knew and you didnât bother to tell me?â
âIt was not my secret to tell,â firmly, he replies. âAnd you know that.â
âBut you donât know how he looked!â you continue, steadily working yourself up to an angered hiss. âHe said he loves me and hates himself for it. The last thing he wants to do is to hurt you. You know he thinks of you like a brother.â
Dragging a tired palm over his face, Yoongi whispers that he does know that.
âAnyway, Jimin told me that he has no intention of butting in our relationship,â you conclude numbly and while Yoongi is happy to hear it, the same delight is overshadowed by worry. Was Jimin drinking? Was he somewhere unsafe in Seoul right now?
Seemingly being able to read his mind, you answer before the question is even poised.
âI made sure Jungkook picks him up and looks after him,â you sigh, pushing the mug away. It was completely full. âHe wanted to apologize to you for doing this.â
âVia you?â
You sigh once more and somehow itâs even heavier.
âI donât think that he can bear to look at you right now.â
Yoongiâs gaze darts to sit on the edge of the kitchen table, it lays there dull and lifeless up until you reach to gently wrap a hand around his palm.
âWeâll be okay,â you reassure him with a smile far too meagre to be convincing. âAll of us will be okay. In time.â
It takes approximately a week for Yoongi to run into Jimin. They cross each other's paths in a hallway next to the exit doors. What sparse conversation they share is gone as soon as it starts. Yoongi takes in the exhausted, heartbroken look that seems to devour Jimin whole and all he manages to wrangle out is an understanding âIâm sorryâ spoken at a distance.
Jimin gives him a tight-lipped smile and a nod, before putting back his headphones and stalking out into the rain soaked street with a downward gaze.
Yoongi hopes that it will be, as you said, all okay in due time.
SEOKJIN | Hoseokâs entry level of amusement had always been on the floor. Thus seeing him nearly double over in a peel of roaring laughter is not by any means an unusual sight. But...
Jinâs gaze slides over to you, standing next to a positively beaming Hoseok. You were funny, Hoseok liked funny.
And he also liked you.
Which wouldnât be a problem if not for the tiny fact that you and Jin already have matching bands around your fingers and that you are in fact undeniably, irrevocably the love of his life.
SoâŠthereâs that.
Though sitting back and simply observing feels somehow wrong, what else is he supposed to do? Going over there and punching Hoseok in the teeth is not only something he would not usually do but also, in Jinâs mind, it wasnât even close to being productive â so what else is there?
And yes maybe it does irk him.
âGosh, it looks like a painting,â you sigh contently, gazing over the rolling grass and clumps of disorganised mountains in the background.
âI know, a real masterpiece,â Hoseok agrees but his heart-shaped gaze is not found on said clumps of mountains or the tufts of white clouds rolling above. It's firmly planted on you and so it has been for quite some time.
Yes, it does irk him, knowing that his brother, practically flesh and blood in all the accounts that it mattered, would betray him but even so the last thing Jin wants is to tell you. There was no doubt about it â the knowledge would break your heart.
At first, youâd blame yourself, concocting in your mind that somehow this was solely just your doing and that should any fight occur itâd be you whoâd spark it and then youâd cut ties with Hoseok completely. Whatever the case may be of his feelings, Hoseok was the first one who accepted you, who welcomed you into their midst as Jinâs partner with no suspicions or walls of guarded behaviour. Heâd become your ride and die and frankly, very, very frankly, Jin was just as worried whether Hoseok would survive such sudden separation.
He canât not care for his friend and as messy as it is, his friendâs wellbeing now partially hinged on his partnerâs smile.
What a shit fest.
Jin is fairly certain Hoseok will not attempt anything. The sense of shame broiling within him is so apparent that more than once someone else had caught Jin by the elbow, wondering whether they have had a fight.
They havenât, monotonously, he replies each and every time, but he doesnât insist itâs all good either.
Regardless, the fact is he hasnât spoken with Hoseok forâŠquite some time. His contact number has traversed from the usual "recently dialled" to possibly being outdated.
âHey, youâre not sick, are you?â the sound of your worried voice at last rouses Jin from the literal plague of thoughts buzzing around. For good measure, you put your palm on his forehead, trying to gauge the temperature.
Jin wrangles it away, for a moment considering whether to kiss it. Hoseok is looking.
He chooses to hold your hand instead, his finger lingering on the promise ring.
âIâm okay, donât worry.â
âYouâve just been really quiet ever since we got here.â
âIâm overwhelmed by the sheer amount of struggles you have to go through.â
Your brow wrinkles and you gaze down on Jin whose been slowly or not so slowly sipping his whiskey by the fire pit.
âStruggles?â you echoe confused and Jin gives a sage nod.
âIâm already so beautiful every single moment but out here â in our forest get together⊠I canât even imagine how you cope. I must be absolutely enthralling.â
Thereâs a solid minute of absolute silence before you enrupt in fond laughter.
âDonât ever change, Jin.â
He tries to mimic your grin but it falls a touch too flat so instead his eye travels towards the onlooking Hoseok. Both hold each otherâs stare before quickly turning away.
âI definitely wonât,â absent-mindedly, Jin mumbles under the nose.
HOSEOK | It just had to be Namjoon.
âWell, at least itâs not Jungkook,â Namjoon breathes a demure laugh.
If Hoseok had any heart to pummel him through the ground, he would.
âMotherfucker, really?!â
âIâm sorry.â
It truly was a curse to see someone as human. Because no matter how mad Hoseok was at Namjoon, he could not rid himself of a kid's image in this man. A kid who always was beside him. A kid with all the big dreams and all the wrong approaches to those dreams. Still, Namjoon had a kind heart and there was no one more dedicated to fixing their wrongs than him. Hoseok presumes it was this same dedication that had brought his best friend to his doorstep with a bottle of whiskey in hand and a great big apology tumbling like vomit out of his mouth.
âThey just called me to help arrange your birthday present. I promise it wasnât any more than that.â
For what seems like the hundredth time, Namjoon rushes to explain, wearing not to subtle glimmer of delirium in his eye.
âWe met up for a coffee,â Hoseokâs eyebrow twitches and though he could have sworn it was impossible, Namjoon grows a touch paler from fear. âAnd we only discussed you and I left the second I could!â
âSo my partner called up my best friend whose actually in love with them to discuss the plans for my birthday. Me, their partner who knows that his best friend is in love with said partner.â
All Namjoon can really do is apologetically rub the back of his neck all while trying (and failing) to inconscpicously inch closer towards the doors.
âItâs messed up, I know.â
âItâs more than a little messed up, Joon,â Hoseok laughs dryly, already sensing the tepid touch of an oncoming migraine. âYou havenât told them, have you?â
Immediately, Namjoon shakes his head, the glasses perched on the top of his nose threatening to simply hurtle against the wall.
âWe agreed to not tell them. Iâm keeping my end of the bargain.â
And Hoseok does hate himself for it but heâs always wondered so why not ask while the opportunity is still fresh â
âWhy did you agree?â he prods with what to him appears as a cautious hand. âYou could have just told how you feelââ
But Namjoon is quick to interrupt.
âI donât want to,â he states with no small amount of firmness. Itâs the sort of resolution Hoseok has seen him wield in front of the UN, in front of difficulties he could not even comprehend. Something steel-like rests behind his gaze and Hoseok knows that whatever sort of intention Namjoon has set on you, no force of nature can lead him astray.
âI donât want to see the pity in their eyes.â
â_____________ wouldnât look at you withââ
âYes, they would,â Namjoon interrupts him again, his mouth thinning into a grim line. âI wouldnât be Namjoon the leader, Namjoon the trustworthy member, Namjoon, your,â he stammers; itâs almost imperceptible alas Hoseok just knows him too well. âYour brother but Iâd be small Namjoon. Iâd be Namjoon the naive fool who would require kid gloves in case any remark about the happiness of your relationship would break his heart. And I donât want that.â
Ah.
âI want ________________,â they both know itâs a poor choice of wording but none of them is brave enough to remark upon it. âIn a natural way, you know. I want to be their friend, I donât want to make things any more complicated. So, yeah, I donât want to tell them and perhaps,â he licks at his dry lips, briefly glimpsing outside. Unbeknowst to himself Hoseok mimicks the movement, forcing the barest sliver of a smile upon Namjoonâs face. âNah, it is selfish but it is what it is.â
âHmm.â
For a while they stand silent and itâs painfully awkward but alsoâŠitâs good. Itâs almost unbelievable but things are actually peaceful between them.
âWhat does ____________ has planned for my birthday?â
Namjoon cracks a wry smile.
âI ainât telling you that.â
The ring of Hoseokâs phone cuts the lingering tension in two and like an air escaping from a pop balloon, the room grows lax.
If a bit sad.
âHey babe,â Hoseok greets you and Namjoon simply pretends like he isnât here to hear that. âYouâre waiting outside? Yeah, Iâll get going soon. Bye. Love you too.â
He doesnât miss the way Namjoon turns away, obstinately staring at anything just to not see what currently he does not want to see. Hoseok simply lets him be.
âIâve got to go,â he waves around some well-meaning gesture that falls flat on comfort, already halfway there to bolt out of the door. âWill you be okay?â
He watches Namjoon scuff the shoe against the floor. Itâs a tad too angry for someone who will undoubtedly insist on being utterly okay.
âYeah, of course!â Namjoon brushes him off, feigning indifference a bit too well. âIâll just, you know, go into my studio and write some lyrics to process my bottomless devotion to the love of your life.â
Kidding! â follows soon after.
âSort of,â is added when Hoseok ultimately leaves the room.
JIMIN | âYou should go home.â
âI donât want to go home.â
âJiminâŠâ
âDonât you dare to pity me!â
âIâm not. Actually, quite the opposite.â
Jimin glowers at Yoongi across the rim of his glass but it doesnât quite have the effect he pictured. Yoongi keeps on wearing the same unimpressed grimace heâd sat down with. He draws a great sigh for the upteenth time and begins again, a bit gentler, a bit more lenient.
Jimin doesnât know which is worse â either way, heâs a hair away from bursting into tears.
âI didnât expect you, out of all people, to think with your fists instead of your brain.â
And just like that, the tears evaporate.
âHe tried to take them away,â he whispers, voice shaking from the barely concealed rage. Not even at Jungkookâs feelings per se but rather at his sheer audacity. Jimin would understand if he would just fall in love with you, he would understand, he knows how easy it was to love you, to be consumed by you but to goâ!
âHe went behind my back!â he cries out loudly, instantly drawing the attention to their small table. âHe went and asked to be given a chance!â
The frown on Yoongiâs face deepens and seeing such an opening Jimin reaches out and does what he knows best. He pours himself a drink, knocks it down into his throat and hopes heâll pass out soon.
Yoongi bats at his arm, steadily growing redder and redder from the frustration alone.
âStop drinking!â he chides with an irritated hiss. âIâm not excusing Jungkookâs actions. But you know how he is.â
âAnd thus Iâm supposed to forgive him for trying to fuck my fucking partner?!â
Once again, all eyes sit on their table as Jiminâs voice rises into an angered scream.
âYeah, and look at you now. Youâve traded fists with your best friend, gotten yourself a busted lip and _______________ has moved out and honestly good for them. I also wouldnât want to stand you clowns.â
âYouâre supposed to be comforting me,â Jimin scoffs but receives nothing but an ill-meaning glare back.
âIâm all out.â
When at long last Jimin gets home, itâs well past three in the morning. His head is spinning and not so small part of him regrets ever drinking. The alcohol is clawing back up his throat and it doesnât care that heâs putting a palm in front of his mouth. Heâs about to vomit it all back out.
âJesus,â a blur of a voice calls above him and Jimin finds himself being hastily carded to the toilet. He wonders who it is â it couldn't be you, you wouldnât be able to lug him around like a roll of wet paper towels but he simply doesnât have the time to care about it. As the next thing that comes out of his mouth is not a question poised, eloquenty or not, but a steady stream of stomach acid and half-digested fragments of his piss-poor dinner. His faceless saviour brushes the hair back from his forehead, occasionally laying an empathetic pat on his back. Though his mouth of full of bile, Jimin tries to say he appreciates it.
The sun greets him vicious and unforgiving. His head pounds and for the longest part of an hour, Jimin doesnât even recall on how he made it back into his bed. Spotting a full glass of water and painkillers, he both chugs it all down and prays to heaven that it is you. Someoneâs definitely clambering around his kitchen. The noise of a pan on a stove is unmistakanable regardless of the state heâs in.
Cautiously, Jimin pads over to the kitchen, attempting to put together at least two phrases of a genuine apology but the sight he sees only further spikes the nausea gripping him whole.
Unless you suddenly grew a mullet, got an armful of tattoos, a lip piercing and a cosmetic surgery, heâs fairly sure that it isnât you standing by a stove and cooking a pan of eggs but one Jeon Jungkook.
Jeon Jungkook the traitor.
Jeon Jungkook the one Jimin thought was a friend.
Best friend in fact.
In spite of how hard Jimin tries to eviscerate Jungkook with his glare, he cannot help but cringe as the man whips around, showcasing his black eye. Instinctually, Jimin runs a tongue over his lip. It still hurts.
There is a pregnant pause during which they donât speak, merely stay in their respective corners of the room. Jungkook shifts from one foot to another, white knuckling the handle of the pan.
âI made you some eggs,â he splutters, hopefully presenting the food. Ever so slowly, Jimin lowers his gaze towards them and quirks a brow in order to show just how unfettered he is by it.
âIâll vomit them back in your face,â he states coldly and Jungkook all but withers into himself.
âListen, man, I know that I overstepped some boundariesââ
âSome?!â at once, Jimin has to clutch at his head to make sure it simply does not implode.
âAll of the boundaries,â he corrects. "And Iâm sorry. Iâm so, so sorry. I betrayed your trust and __________âs trust, and I know that neither of you owe me your forgiveness.â
Jimin pries open one of his eyelids â itâs swollen and laced with sleep but even so he knows Jungkook and he knows Jungkook wasnât capable of lying.
He truly is sorry.
âWhy the change of heart?â Jimin barks mistrustfully. âSince when do you care for anything but yourself?â
Itâs a low blow but damn if it does not delight him, to hurt Jungkook just as much as Jimin was hurt.
â________________,â Jungkook sighs, his nose scrunching up at what is certainly a recollection of some exceedingly sour memories. âChewed me the fuck out. They saidââ his breath hitches. In a still moment between one breath and the next, there is a single, utterly pathethic plea ringing in Jiminâs earsâ
Please, dont take them away from me
âThey said they were disgusted by me.â
He has to physically bite his tongue to not say âIâm sorryâ. Itâs just as instinctual for him to comfort Jungkook as it is for their younger one to seek that same comfort. For a brief moment, he sees a much younger Jungkook. A much younger Jungkook come to beg for understanding and Jimin himself, feels much younger. Much more ill-equipped to deal with Jungkookâs fragile heart.
But that moment disappears and with it the breadth of his anger.
Itâs churning, he knows it is, he doesnât deny it but he reckons that step by step, day by cautious day theyâll be able to calll each other friends again and greet you back home, inhabiting their rightful roles.
You would say they're a broken pot with its cracks glued by gold.
Yoongi would say theyâre fucking morons.
TAEHYUNG | Dearest ____________________,
Let me preface this by saying, I know itâs inappropriate and I know itâs unfair for me to spring this on you. I must seem like a coward to you and thatâs beacause I am one. Million times I must have tried to tell you, to be able to say IT to your face but I just canât. I donât care what you do with this letter, burn it if you must, destroy it if it brings you peace but a part of me reasons that people deserve to know when one loves them and so I tell you.
I love you.
I love you insanely. I love you devoutly but most of all I want to love you selflessly so I wonât ask of you anything donât worry. I wonât ask of you to meet me, I wonât ask of you to let me down, gently or otherwise, I wonât ask of you to even look at me. I burn for you, I yearn for you but I also know you love Taehyung. I see your love for him as clear as I see my own so I understand I donât have a place in your life. I donât even dare to ask of you such a thing.
You may wonder why even write this at all? Well, for me this is a speech. A speech one would give at a funeral. I scream and I vomit all that I feel and with it, with every stroke of this stupid pen I hammer in a nail into a coffin of all the fondness I hold for you. With any luck, Iâll be able to return to it rarer and rarer until at last itâs swallowed by moss and will lay unrecognizable. With any luck, the scar will heal and will be just that â a painless scar left by idiocy of youth.
I donât want you to find me, I donât want you to know me, all I want is for you and Taehyung to be happy. Oh, Taehyung, if only I could also say how sorry I am for ever letting him down.
So please be happy _______________. Be the happiest a person has ever been so I can rest easy and breathe a little easier each day, knowing that none of us has made a grave mistake.
Sincerely,
Your secret admirer.
Quite the letter, Taehyung reckons, closing it shut once he finishes tracing the inked lines. The thick black of the room is cut only by the orange flames licking at the firewood in the old fireplace. Glancing quietly across the shoulder, he finds you sleeping soundly on the hotel bed, hair splattered messily across the pillowcase. Taehyung supresses a deep sigh of relief before turning back with a heavy frown etched upon his face.
He took you away just in time, whoever this secret admirer was, he clearly held something more than a casual crush. When did he have the time to slip this into your bag, Taehyung did not know but it scared the shit out of him. The only people who both knew of his sudden trip to France and had the opportunity to see you were his members. His friends. His brothers. Which meant that one of them betrayed him. For one of them your name on their lips was not something easy to be spoken. For one of them your name was a benediction, meant to be sighed in shameful isolation.
The poetics said Namjoon but donât find me said Yoongi. Loving insanely was Jungkook wanting to love selflessly was Jimin. But who could possibly know â maybe it was Hoseok, maybe it was Jin â Taehyung certainly didnât.
He gazed down onto the thin paper, lips curling in distaste. Whoever he was, he should have just kept it to himself. For the first time, Taehyung was happy in his relationship, secure even and here he comes, one of his family, tearing it down.
Perhaps he should do what this admirer said â forget about it. No one wants to hate their family, right?
Yes, he thinks to himself, Iâll forget about. Iâll try really, really hard.
It was a good letter, beautiful even, he has to admit that much.
Shame though, he doesnât hesitate to toss it into the flames, ______________wonât ever read it.
JUNGKOOK | âBaby, please.â
Jungkook loathes the fact at how weak he grows underneath your touch. Where others would give him a wide berth, all in fear of incuring a foul mood, you merely have to wrap your arms around his back and he feels the tension unlatching its jaw from his shoulders.
âJust talk to Jin.â
âDonât even mention his name,â he growls, trying to sound pissed but his body has a mind of its own. It reaches to tug you closer around him, almost frightened that should he let you go for just a second, he could lose you.
âHe came forward with how he felt,â you reason slowly, cautiously. âHe was honest and just let it all out.â
âHe should have choked with it,â Jungkook refutes. You donât buy it.
âYou donât mean that.â
Jungkook knows you know he knows he doesnât mean it but for the time being he just wants to be angry.
He turns to look over his shoulder, finding you nuzzled into his spine, swaying slighty from left to right. His heart swells with all thisâŠlove he held for you. Whatever Jin held was nothing but a cheap copy, a fling, a failure of the brain.
âYouâre mine, got it,â he tries to warn you but you all but laugh at the pout in his tone. âI donât care how handsome you think Jin is, you promised me forever first. Finders keepers and all that.â
âYouâre a bit delusional, you know that?â you rub your nose against his jumper, spectacularly failing at trying to supress the smirk fighting its way onto your face.
âSo what?â he scoffs, turning to scrub the dishes with far more vigour than neccessary. âIt makes me happy.â
But your voice of âjust talk to Jinâ doesnât leave the side of his ear. Like an overzealous mosquito it buzzes around his head at all hours of the day, at all hours of the night, round and round until Jungkook swears it makes his nose bleed.
Itâs well past midnight when he finally musters up the courage to press the dial button to Jinâs number. His knee refuses to sit still and behind his back heâs crossing his fingers hoping that his friend will be asleep.
He is not.
When Jin replies with a timid âhelloâ he is surprisingly coherent as though he hadnât slept at all.
â_______________ told me to give you a call,â Jungkook grouses instead of a greeting and the other line of the phone grows uncomfortably quiet.
âTheyâre too kind,â Jin whispers and Jungkook certainly agrees on it.
He taps his leg, bites his lip, looks at you for guidance â youâre asleep on his bed, practically knocked out because Jungkook just had toâŠshow his love for you â and none of it helps him to get over this sudden knot growing at the base of his throat.
However, Jin beats it to him.
âI know I said it already,â he mutters miserably, voice crackingi across the connection. âBut for what itâs worth, I really am sorry for doing this to you Jungkook. I wish nothing but happiness for you and _______________.â
They cry, they curse, they share their love for you and some three hours later itâs somewhat easier to breathe. The days, the weeks that Jungkook couldnât sleep, plagued by nightmares of his light being stolen away, are wiped away with a cool hand and he rejoices in the comfort it provides. He doesnât say I love you to Jin, heâs not yet ready for that but he knows Jin knows and he knows that Jin knows that he knows.
For now he just wants to sleep. Putting the phone away, Jungkook drops himself back into the pillow, Â heaving a drawn-out sigh up against the black ceiling. He wraps his arm around your waist, kissing your neck âgood nightâ as he always does. Itâll be alright, he reminds himself, surprisingly, itâll all be just fine.

MYG- I love you eternally.
Summary: he hasn't been gone long but the space he left behind consumes you, thankfully you aren't ever really alone.
Genre: hurt/comfort, angst, sad fic, happy ending, COMFORT
A/N: this came to me after seeing an edit on tiktok of yoongi clips to fine line by harry styles (deffo listen as you read it makes you cry) this is very self indulgent. I miss yoongi an awful lot, he was my comfort person and it sucks that I canât stop crying.
BTS Masterlist
The sound of knuckles tapping on the door pulled you out of your trance, you hadnât even realised the movie youâd put on had finished, nor that your phone had been receiving numerous calls for the past god knows how long.
Reluctantly you shove off the blanket you had wrapped around you, it was a gift from Yoongi one winter when it was far too cold to sit in just clothing. The door is only a few steps away from the couch so it doesnât take you long to finally open it.
âI brought foo-âNamjoon's mouth rounds into an âoâ shape. âYou were crying.â
âWas I?â You frown reaching up to touch your face, sure enough, it was damp from the tears youâd shed. âSorry, I was just a little out of it.â
âLetâs go inside?â He asks, raising the white bag up a little higher to remind you of the food he brought.
âOh yeah, of course.â You shake your head stepping aside to let him pass. âIâm not really hungry.â
âHave you eaten today?â He asks, pulling out some plates.
You slump back onto the couch, pulling the blanket around you before shoving your face into the hood of the sweatshirt youâd stolen from Yoongis's closet. The smell comforts you. âI donât know, I had breakfast or was it lunchâŠâ you trail off, half-heartedly trying to recount your day.
âYou canât let yourself fall apart YN. Hyung will be worried.â He looks at you with a hint of concert as he passes you a plate of food. âLetâs watch something?â
âI- uh.â You really canât stand the idea of noise right now. âMaybe not tonight?â
âOf course. What did you do today?â He questions, sitting on the other end of the couch, his own plate balanced on his thighs.
âNot much, I watched TV and read a chapter of the book yoon gave me.â You dug the spoon into the food, not really attempting to eat.
It wasnât your fault you had no appetite.
âWas the book good?â He asked in between a mouthful.
âIt⊠I donât really know⊠I couldnât get into it.â You shrug, bringing the spoon to your mouth.
âItâs 5 pm and you havenât done anything today have you?â Namjoon sets his plate aside in favour of moving closer to you.
âI miss him.â You mumble, putting your own plate on the table.
Yoongi would have scolded you if he were here, always complaining that it would mark the table despite the fact you always used hear absorbent dinner trays but that was the problemâŠ
Yoongi wasnât here.
You donât know what exactly caused it but within a second you were bursting into tears, everything youâd managed to hold together ever since he left a week ago falling apart. âI miss him, I donât even get to fucking call him.â
âI know.â Namjoon shushes you as he brings your head to his shoulder in an attempt to comfort you. âIâm so sorry this must be hard for you.â
âIt was so short notice he didnât even tell m-me.â You hiccuped, bordering between the lines of angry and sad was never a good place to be but you couldnât help it.
Yoongi had waited until the last possible moment to tell you he had received his enlistment date and when he had received it he was shocked to see a date only 4 days away giving you absolutely no time to mentally prepare yourself for him to be gone.
âItâs so fucking unfair.â You cuss, unable to do anything else with your anger at the situation.
Namjoon didnât say anything, he couldnât, he himself knew how ridiculously unfair it was but still, he didnât regret the group's choice, it was the only right way to deal with the situation. âIt will pass quicker than you think. You wonât be alone.â
âJoon soon enough you, Tae, Jimin and Jungkook are enlisting too. Itâs not exactly like anyone else knows about me and Yoongi. Other people just donât understand it.â Yoongi had made a joke two days before he left telling you to cry with other armys about it because they would understand but it was looking more and more appealing as the days went past. âI donât know what to do with myself.â
Another wave of tears came just seconds later and this time there was no reprieve, anytime you nearly stopped a memory of him would pop into your mind and the tears would start again. You hated how it made you seem crazy, seem overly obsessive but you knew Yoongi would be missing you just as much. Youâd become each other strength in all the years youâd been together so now he wasnât here, wasnât just a phone call away, it felt like youâd lost a part of yourself, it felt like youâd lost your strength.
Thatâs how you fell asleep, curled in Namjoon's arms, sobbing in longing for the man who taught you how to love.
Namjoon waited until he was sure you were fast asleep before slipping out from underneath you, draping the gifted blanket over you as he tiptoed to the balcony to take his incoming call.
âHyung.â Namjoon smiles into the phone. âHow are you?â
âAs good as I can be, you didnât tell her right?â
âNo Hyung. Are you sure we really canât tell her about you-â
âNo Namjoon-ah I donât want to get her hopes up, that will only hurt her more if it doesnât get approved. Iâll tell her if she knows I can call and I donât want to do that to her. How is she? How are you? â
âIâm okay.â Namjoon responds. âShe misses you.â He continues, not going u into depth about the small breakdown.
âI miss her too.â He breathes, his voice a little strained in the way it gets when he is very obviously holding back tears. âIs she eating?â
Namjoon nodded before realising Yoongi couldnât see him. âI brought her food she just seemed sad. Are you eating Hyung? Sleeping enough?â
Yoongi laughs as though Namjoon has said something absurd. âThe food is shit. Iâve got this fucking melody stuck in my head and I just know it would sound amazing for the vocal line.â
âAh, Hyung.â Namjoon laughs. âIâll tell them Iâm sure they would appreciate the fact youâre thinking about making their songs already.â
âIâll probably forget it by the time Iâm actually allowed to work on music.â Yoongi huffs.
âI doubt it.â Namjoon hears shuffling, already knowing itâs you. âI have to go Hyung sheâs waking up.â
âMake sure she knows I love her okay? Iâll call you again to let you know if itâs approved.â Yoongi rushes out before Namjoon hangs up.
âWhat are you doing?â You ask him, shivering at the draft coming from the open door.
âSorry.â He smiles, stepping back inside and closing it behind him. âJust needed some air. So⊠how about watching something?â
You donât hate the idea as much as you did earlier, your little thirty-minute nap helping you feel a little better. âSure.â
You watch 3 episodes of some drama before declaring it a night, Namjoon insisting you eat before he left which led to you both eating an oversized pizza. It leaves you feeling a little less lonely, especially when he tells you just how much he too misses Yoongi.
Namjoon comes over again three more times that week, each day following the same pattern. The days he didnât come you resigned yourself to laying in bed, looking through pictures and videos you and Yoongi had taken in the past few months.
Today was one of those days, those days where you missed him so much and felt so alone that youâd texted Namjoon not to come, told him you just couldnât deal with being around anyone else right now, so it surprised you when the doorbell rang consistently for five minutes until you finally gave in.
You groaned, shivering as the floor felt cold against your bare feet. âNamjoon I said not to-
âYou really shouldnât lay in bed every day.â
You froze, too afraid to move, speak or blink in case the figure in front of you disappeared.
âBaby.â He sighed, dropping his bag inside the door before pushing you inside lightly. âItâs me.â
âFuck.â You sobbed, wrapping your arms around him as tight as you could. âYouâre here. How are you here.â
He laughed, the sound of it melodic to your ears. âI did extra time so my training finished earlier. They could t exactly say no.â
âI just- I canât believe youâre here I thought it would be at least another three weeks before I could even call you.â You bring your hands up to his hair, despite it being short you still love it. âI missed you.â
âBaby donât cry Iâm here now.â He sucked in a breath, his own eyes pooling with tears. âI get to stay for four days.â
âReally?â You pull back to look at him properly, a grin breaking out as he nods.
âReally.â
Despite the tears trailing down your lips he leans in to kiss you, his hand at the small of your back a comforting presence. âI love you.â
âI love you too Yoon.â
The next four days passed much faster than you would have liked but as you dropped him off at the camp again things felt different.
You hated how quiet the house was without him, where he would normally be playing piano, watching a new show jimin had recommended or cooking with a glass of whiskey in his hand, there was nothing but silence.
You were almost ready to give in to your tears again until you spotted a letter on the kitchen counter.
The perfect writing on the envelope already tells you who itâs from, you donât hesitate in pulling out the paper and reading it.
Hello, my love,
I snuck away to write this whilst you slept, Iâm not the best with words although Iâm sure by now youâre absolutely aware of that but still there are only things that can be conveyed by words. If I was allowed to Iâd write you a hundred songs but Iâm a little short on time so I hope this suffices.
I want you to know just how much you mean to me, just how much your presence has brought me happiness, strength and comfort. You often thank me for giving you strength but you forget that you are the sole reason I keep going.
You cannot let the bad days consume you, although itâs okay to give up and take a break, you canât let that feeling consume you. There is always a tomorrow, always another chance and I know that you will never ever fail because I donât believe in failure, every attempt is precious, and every time you try to get up - even if it isnât successful - is precious and I am so proud of you for it.
In the moments you miss me do something nice for yourself, eat a good meal, read a book you like, watch a movie you find brings you happiness and before you realise it Iâll be back, spending every moment possible with you because you are my home.
I will always be here, write me letters, send me messages, take pictures of the things you see and do and share them with me. Iâll always be apart of your life, Iâm not going anywhere.
I love you eternally.
You wiped away your tears, holding the letter close as though it were him. You let the words sink in and silently you made a promise.
Youâd keep going and do the best you could, youâll be the best version of yourself when he returns because he gave you the ability to grow much like water does a flower.
And even if you couldnât say it to him, you were sure he knewâŠ
You loved him eternally too.
