-behind starless, night-

saki: Are you heading home, Kokuyou-san? Have a good night.

kokuyou: Yeah, you too. Make sure you have someone walk you to the station.

sin: You should accompany her, Kokuyou. Everyone else appears to be busy at the moment.

saki: Oh no it’s ok! I wouldn’t want to trouble him, Kokuyou-san has his motorbike too.

sin: Kokuyou.

kokuyou: Fine, I don’t mind escorting you. As for the bike I’ll just walk with it until we get you to the station.

saki: But—

sin: Don’t worry about it, Saki. I’ll leave her to you, Kokuyou.

-time pass, alleyway, night-

sin (on phone): …What are you calling me for?

iwami (on phone): I just wanted to have a little chat with you, got a minute?

sin: Why?

iwami: It's about the black cards, my preparations are finally complete.

sin: Is this why we haven't been seeing you around here lately? Alas, you may be ready but her preparations are not, I am still waiting for the right opportunity.

iwami: You're still worried about what happened back then, huh? You of all people should know that what's most important is sealing her black card.

sin: But…

iwami: What, have you gotten attached to her? Because of that you've let your guard down you know. You and Kei both. You may have planned to keep everything under wraps and locked away, but the basket is wide open, its contents are in plain sight for all to see. In reality all you need to do to steal something away from someone is to tell them what they want to hear.

sin: ...Are you saying that her black card was stolen?

iwami: All I know is that someone has their hands on her card.

sin: .....……

iwami: I’m sure you must have foreseen this would happen, however the fact you’re hesitant to say anything must mean… That you’re the one who's hiding her card away yourself, am I right, Sin? 

sin: —!

iwami: Well whatever, let's meet in person, I won't take up much of your time I promise, i'll be waiting for you outside the old Starless building... Be careful on your way here, take care.

-call ends-

sin: ...This isn't good, I need to hide it, somewhere that nobody can find.

-thug appears and tasers sin-

sin: Ngh...!? What are you—

-thug hits sin over the head-

-screen flashes red-

sin: Gah…!

-thug takes black card from sin-

sin: Crap... So much for telling me to ‘take care’…

Chapter 1

-street, night-

kokuyou: This is as far as I can walk you with my bike.

saki: The station is just up ahead so this is fine. Thank you for escorting me, Kokuyou-san.

kokuyou: I don’t mind, I was heading home either way. I like waking up early when we have a performance coming up.

saki: That’s right, your next performance is a week away, isn’t it?

kokuyou: Yeah, it’s a new show so look forward to it. Our performance and direction is all ready to go too.

saki: I’ll be looking forward to seeing it!

sin (voice only): Nn… Agh… Ngh…

kokuyou: Saki, stay beside me.

saki: Kokuyou-san?

kokuyou: Someone’s injured in that alleyway. Wait, that’s—

-koku and saki run into alley-

-alleyway, night-

sin: Ugh… Grh…

saki: Sin-san…!!

kokuyou: What happened, Sin? Who did this to you?

sin: Run, Saki. Just for the time being, run somewhere far away. Kokuyou, I’m trusting you with her.

saki: Run? What are you saying…?

sin: She can’t be near this area. The power balance is collapsing… Just for one week, that should be long enough. If you sense danger then avoid her house too.

saki: U-um… What do you mean by that?

kokuyou: One week… So we’ll be back right before the opening show. I just have to shelter her somewhere until then? —Understood. Let’s get going, Saki.

saki: But we need to call Sin an ambulance…!

sin: Do not worry about me. Leave any electronics you have on you here. Otherwise you will be tracked.

kokuyou: Got it, here’s my phone. You too Saki, leave your phone with Sin.

-they give their phones to sin-

kokuyou: Leave Saki to me. You handle things here.

sin: Yes. Peace cannot be achieved if old wounds still ache. —Proceed with caution, Kokuyou, Saki.

kokuyou: What are you saying all of a sudden? Don’t talk your usual nonsense at a time like this.

saki: This is all my fault… I’m so sorry…

-koku’s scar suddenly hurts-

kokuyou: Ow… Tch, the heck was that?

saki: Kokuyou-san? Is something the matter?

kokuyou: It’s nothing.

-they run back to kokuyou’s motorbike-

kokuyou: Let’s go, Saki. Hop on the back.

saki: O-ok.

kokuyou: Hold on tight.

-they drive off-

sin: Please be… safe…

iwami: I have the time to wait but well… It’s not like he’s gonna show up anyways huh? I suppose I should finish things up.

-iwami calls hinata-

hinata (on phone): Yeah yeah it’s me~ What’s up?

iwami: Have you seen Sin around Starless at all? I arranged to meet with him but he’s late.

hinata: What~ Annoying.

iwami: If you don’t see him at the store then could you check the nearby streets?

hinata: Yeah, got it. I’ll go and have a look then.

-time pass, alleyway, night-

hinata: Even if he tells me to look for him it’s not like I’m going to turn a corner and he’ll be right there…

hinata: …Hm? Wait, isn’t that Sin over there? Oh my god it totally is.

-hinata walks over to him-

hinata: Heeey, Sin? What are you doing sleeping in a place like this?

sin: ………

hinata: Woah wait, his head is bleeding!? There’s blood, blood! He’s dead!

sin: I’m not dead yet.

hinata: Oh thank god! Don’t scare me like that, seriously.

sin: Why are… you here?

hinata: Iwa-san told me to look for you. He said you didn’t show up to your meeting or whatever.

sin: Just what is he… planning…

hinata: Nevermind that, what the heck happened to you? An accident? Crime!?

sin: Please tell the hospital… I got caught up in an accident…

hinata: W-wait hold up, don’t go dying on me now! I’ll call an ambulance right now, ok!? God, what the heck is this situation!?

-ambulance noises-

-rehearsal room-

-taiga’s phone beeps-

taiga: …It’s no use. My calls won’t go through to either Kokuyou or Sin.

akira: You serious? Without those two here how are we supposed to rehearse?

taiga: Is it possible we’re the ones who got the date wrong? Like this rehearsal wasn’t a canon event?

akira: What are you saying? I don’t get it.

taiga: Heheh, nothin’.

takami: There’s no doubt that rehearsal was scheduled for today. I’m sure they know, they might’ve just had some urgent business to attend to.

-unei rushes in-

unei: I-i-it’s an emergency!

takami: What’s wrong, did something happen?

unei: Sin-san got into an accident and was rushed to the hospital…!

akira: An accident…!? Sin did?

taiga: Is he ok!?

unei: Yes. His injuries were only minor so they aren’t life threatening. He’s being kept at the hospital overnight to rest. Will he really be ok to perform…?

takami: If he said he can then he’ll be fine. That’s just the way he is.

akira: Didn’t see this one coming… And we still can’t get in contact with Kokuyou either.

unei: What? Kokuyou-san isn’t here? I didn’t know that.

akira: Ah, as I thought, he hasn’t contacted you either then. I wonder where he’s off killing time~

unei: H-huh…!? Isn’t this a really big problem? What if Kokuyou-san got into an accident as well!? Then what!?

akira: He commutes here by motorbike doesn’t he? But well, I don’t think he’s that bad of a driver that he’d crash.

takami: Indeed. Plus, if he had gotten himself into an accident then we would have heard from the hospital or the police by now.

unei: T-that’s true. I’m sure Kokuyou-san is fine. There’s no need to worry, right?

taiga: …You don’t think he actually went and ran away, do you?

akira: Hmm?

taiga: Nothing, I’ll try looking for Kokuyou too. It’s not like him to skip out on something.

akira: …I really wonder where he’s off killing time.

-rehearsal room-

taiga: Unei-kun’s a mess, do you think he’ll be ok? He looks like he might keel over.

akira: Welp, that’s it for today’s rehearsal.

taiga: Huh? Are you sure it’s ok for us to not do anything today?

akira: Our leader isn’t here and there’s only three of us. We can start practicing once Sin’s back. Until then we can just do our own thing. I’m off to the voice training room.

-akira goes to leave-

takami: Wait a moment, Akira. Is there really nothing we can work on? We don’t have long before the show starts. I know you’re our singer though, so making sure you fine tune your singing is important too.

akira: ……..

akira: You sure have a way with words, don’t you, Takami?

-akira walks back into the room-

akira: Fine, let’s get to practicing.

taiga: Sure.

akira: Then from the top, let’s forget about the acting for now and go over our dancing.

takami: Got it, let’s start.

Chapter 1 SideB 

-black screen-

kokuyou: …ke up.

saki: Nn… Hm…?

kokuyou: Come on, wake up.

-saki opens her eyes-

-service station, night-

saki: Huh…?

kokuyou: You awake? Let’s eat something and move before the sun comes up.

saki: Where are we…?

kokuyou: You can’t tell from looking? It’s a service station.

saki: (Oh, right… Kokuyou-san and I ran away…)

kokuyou: Here, eat this. I bought it from the vending machine over there, so it probably won’t taste the best, but it’s better than nothing. You can’t think clearly on an empty stomach.

saki: Thank you.

kokuyou: We’re getting out of here as soon as you’re done. It’s the crack of dawn but after what happened yesterday… We might still have pursuers on our tail. 

saki: (Right… Yesterday we saw someone following us…)

-flashback, street, night-

-thug runs across the screen-

kokuyou: Tch, there’s more of them here too? It would be great if we could return to Starless but it doesn’t look like that’s gonna be easy.

saki: To think there’s actually people after us… What are we supposed to do now?

kokuyou: If we stick around here and get caught right away it wouldn’t be a funny joke. We need to leave Tokyo.

saki: But, where do we go?

kokuyou: ……. (thinking)

kokuyou: I have a place in mind.

-flashback ends-

kokuyou: You not gonna eat?

saki: Um… The one who they’re after is me, isn’t it? That’s what Sin-san said… so…

kokuyou: Don’t worry about it. Sin left you to me and leaving you alone whilst you’re being targeted obviously isn’t a good idea. I could’ve beat them all up, but your safety comes first. Just don’t dwell on it and eat. You shouldn’t think about what ifs while you’re hungry. Or what, do you want me to rip the package open and eat it for you?

saki: Huh? No! I’m eating it, look!

kokuyou: We’ll be fine, we only need to put up with this for a couple days. We’ll be back before you know it.

-hospital room-

sin: You’re here. I’m sorry for calling you here.

kei: I am simply here to visit my fellow cast member after he got hospitalised due to an ‘accident’. And so, what is it that you’d like to talk about?

sin: There’s something that I need to tell you. It’s about Saki’s black card. The card that she has with her now is not real.

kei: What do you mean by that?

sin: I switched her card out with a fake. I did it in order to avoid the worst case scenario, I wanted a way to insure she wouldn’t lose it. If something were to happen to her, I thought it would be safer if she did not have her true card with her.

kei: Preposterous… And so? Does that mean you have it with you right now?

sin: It was stolen from me last night.

kei: What…!?

sin: I do not know who attacked me and I do not know the cards whereabouts. I am sorry, I made a lapse in my judgment.

kei: You fool. We must protect Saki immediately.

sin: She has already fled, Kokuyou is with her.

kei: …What did you just say?

sin: I told him to take her as far away from here as possible. They’ve already left so they should be able to escape.

kei: ……..

kei: I’m not happy about it, but I must leave her in his care for now. I will find where her card has gone. It’s a blessing in disguise that it hadn’t been used yet.

sin: Kei. You must stay and maintain control of Starless.

kei: …Once you’ve been discharged you must perform. Starless must remain operating as usual. If your performance were to be canceled, the public would assume that something has happened.

sin: Understood. I will return to Starless tomorrow.

-hospital lobby area-

kei: What is the matter, Gui?

gui: I can’t sense Saki’s presence in this city anymore. I’m going to go look for her.

kei: Could you sense that Kokuyou is with her?

gui: Yes. Kokuyou is with her.

kei: Then Kokuyou shall protect her. There are other things you need to do right now.

gui: You told me that protecting Saki is my job.

kei: Yes, but we have no choice but to leave her to Kokuyou for now. Act as you always do and make sure no one else finds out about this.

gui: …Is that… an order?

kei: Yes.

gui: …Ok.

first i wanna recap, not only for those who are lost but to show better the points i'll make at the end. (disclaimer: im not including every single update of louis and harry, just the main ones related to this event. check this UA tag for more).

context: saturday - july 14, 2024: it was the final match of the euro tournament (uefa). spain vs. england played in berlin (germany) at the olympiastadion stadium (spain won 2-1).

timeline of events in chronological order

before july 14, 2024:

july 12, 2024: harry joined stevie in a performance of "landslide" and "stop dragging my heart around" at BST hyde park festival (london, UK). - added it mainly to highlight that harry was in london two days before.

july 14, 2024 - before the match:

louis spotted in berlin (pic with a fan).

louis posts an IG story (of the official tournament programme).

louis was spotted with ed sheeran at the stadium. we started joking about all along and that harry was gonna appear there in a different VIP section.

july 14, 2024 - during the match:

louis posts an IG story (of the field).

an IG story of louis waiting for the match to start is posted (the video was taken before ofc but posted during).

harry is spotted in an IG story in the stadium. we automatically notice that the person behind louis in the pic with ed sheeran was probably harry (not only because of the outfit but because if ed was with louis and harry was there too, they surely were all together).

stuff to highlight

there isn't a valid logical reason to interpret that the person with ed and louis wasn't harry.

they didn't share the exact same vip sectors, however they were extremely close.

funny coincidences: exactly 9 years ago (july 14, 2015), the article that confirmed babygate was released - and 9 days from now (july 23, 2024) are four years since louis followed harry and zayn on IG.

it was the first time since 2016 (just hold on the x factor performance) since they were publicly together in the same place at the same time and the probably the first time since late 2011 they are at the same place at the same time and both of them publicly single. (see these timelines for more).

why is this so important? why this might be so important?

obviously the fact they were in the same place at the same time publicly AND confirmed is a huge step. we know and have some solid proof they were together at other events too but this is the first time in almost 8 years that the media confirmed it.

we have always speculated about how louis and harry are gonna come out and one of the most common theories is that they are gonna slowly "reconnect" publicly by these type of "random" situations (as the beginning of the end). then some people believe they're gonna "fell in love" and come out without saying they were always together and other who believes they are gonna come out after "reconnecting" and later explain or as life goes or not explain at all. just theories, ofc, but is as old as larry stylinson itself basically, so its something we have to have in mind.

it's mid-2024: it's been 14 years since one direction was formed and 9 years since babygate started. next year will be 15 and 10 years respectively. i talked about contracts in this recent ask and if they have term clauses, some of them might be end soon. as we don't know whats happening, i cannot tell if it's correlated, but exactly mid-july 2024 it's an interesting time to do this.

even though i personally really skeptical about this and im inclined to think that it means nothing, i don't think in this particular case that thinking everything that happened was a random coincidence or that is "simply louis and harry living their lives hidden from the public but always together etc etc", as we usually do, its the best we can do. these two run rbb and sbb... im not saying these coincidences mean something (i don't know!) but we really need to stop pretending these two aren't capable of "coincide" in the most crazy ways.

some conclusions and - personal - opinions

now i explained everything let's get to the "im gonna be honest with you man" part. as a fandom (im talking exclusively about larries here) i feel there are two types of people: the one who could watch louis and harry go for a walk holding hands and would be like "yeah that means absolutely nothing" and the one who could watch a blue and a green sticker in louis or harry's water bottles and be like "larry is coming out tomorrow". yeah im well aware im taking it to the extreme and exaggerating it, but my point still stands.

i personally mostly identify with the first one since my mindset is like, i don't expect anything at all, so i don't get disappointed; and if something nice happens, i'd be surprised instead of "yeah that's what i originally expected". i feel this mindset is like the "calmer" way to deal with the situation, by not getting your hopes up for everything, surprises are always more pleasant. but this is just what i enjoy most since it takes a lot of time and energy to be invested in this, but if people adore enjoying fandoms that way, i think its great as long as they understand that they cannot be mad if that expectations don't fulfill every time, since they are theories and speculations after all.

with this situation i see these two exact mindsets in everyone, like you either believe they are coming out or it means absolutely nothing. and why? like genuinely. not everything is black or white and i really feel some people are so combined in their respective mindset that they cannot see beyond. what if it means something but not a coming out? i don't see people asking that question, for example.

im more inclined to think this means nothing, due to the amount of times we genuinely had proof something was changing and nothing happened, therefore im choosing to not get any hopes up, but to continue to analyse and follow the situation closely, just to see if this actually means something. if this means something, we are not gonna know it now, or probably not anytime soon. but i know i have to understand that even thought we lived a lot of other situations where we "clowned", that is not actually a valid reason to say "this entire situation mean absolutely nothing" as every situation is different and as time passes, even the "same situations" change.

regarding feelings about this: every emotion you have is valid, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. this can be overwhelming, this can be exciting and scary at the same time, this can make you feel a lot of ways in different moments, maybe you are "they are confirming larry tomorrow" at 4pm and "this means nothing" at 5pm. literally. its because it was huge, really huge. and took us by surprise. we are shocked! that's the conclusion, we are so shocked that even though we acknowledge the situation, we are clearly not processing it yet. so don't be hard on yourself nor other fans :)

some questions we may need to start thinking

and finally, to end this damn rant (again, sorry) i wanna ask questions, but not for people to actually answer directly, but to encourage to start thinking about this whole circumstance.

was this a "husbands living their life normally but hidden" moment where they didn't mind the media knowing they were in the same place at the same time because its just a football match, or it means more?

if you believe its #totally awkward random, why do you believe they decided to appear publicly in the same place at the same time for the first time in years at that place and that time when they could have not done so, or chose another date and place?

if you believe this means more, what do you think is actually happening? do you genuinely believe this is coming out or is it something else? a 1d reunion? why?

if you believe this is the beginning of the end, what do you think is gonna happen to babygate? the date wasn't randomly chosen?

i could make a lot of these, and im not making them because i need the answers, im making them because i think a lot of people are asking themselves the wrong questions (or not asking themselves anything at all) and that is why there is chaos lol. sometimes its easier when someone asks you directly, at least for me.

and sorry if i got you even more confused, but i didn't want to just say "black or white" as an answer, yk? form your own conclusions always <3

Participation Requirements:

You must choose whether to join the Big Bang as an artist or writer. You may not do both.

Writers will require an AO3 account; if you do not have an AO3 account, please request one via AO3’s login page.

If you wish to write M or E rated fics you must be aged over 18.

All participants must read and adhere to the Expected Conduct guidelines (see below).

Minimum Final Word Count: 20,000

Maximum Number of Fics per Writer/s: 1

Maximum Number of Writers per Fic (collaboration): 2

Fic Draft Requirements: At the draft deadline (August 18th), we will require a complete draft of at least 18,000 words. “Complete” means that the fic is written from start to finish with no indispensable scenes missing or left as outlines—think, “If I posted this right now, would I be happy with the story it tells?”

Ideally, you will refine and polish your draft in the remaining time, but it can also be your final draft if you prefer.

Drafts will be handed in via a form that will be sent out to you before the deadline. Drafts should be available in Google docs, or if need be in PDF format.

Summary Requirements: A form for the summary will be sent out to you before the deadline. Summaries should briefly outline the general premise, and include rating, ships, triggers and other warnings, and any other relevant details.

Eligible Fics:

Fics of any rating and with any warnings are permitted, as long as they meet the minimum word count (20,000), are centered around at least one Rusty Quill original podcast (The Magnus Archives, The Magnus Protocol, Rusty Quill Gaming, Stellar Firma, Inexplicables, Chapter & Multiverse, Trice Forgotten, Cry Havoc!, Neon Inkwell), and are tagged appropriately.

We encourage authors to take this opportunity to challenge themselves to take on a project that they might not otherwise—though please consider what is realistic in terms of the deadlines as well!

Fics must be stand-alone (requires no knowledge of previous fics to enjoy), complete (resolves all main plotlines within the story, as opposed to being part I of a trilogy, etc.), and previously unposted.

Crossovers are allowed, but the focus should be on the RQ podcast involved. For example: a fusion crossover with the Leverage Team replacing the LOLOMG in the RQG!verse would not be permitted, though the RQG characters in the Leverage!verse would be.

Please be aware that fics with obscure crossovers, common squicks, higher ratings, etc., may be more difficult to match, and thus take a little longer to get snapped up. We will do our best to find you a suitable match, though!

If you have any questions about the suitability of your fic, please contact the mods.

Matching Process:

The artist sign-up will include a list of the anonymised fic summaries. Each artist will select 3 fics which they would be interested in creating for, with additional preferences (favourite show/shows they do not follow, OTPs and NoTPs, Do Not Wants, etc.) indicated in the comment field. Mods will then match writers to artists, taking preferences into account as much as possible.

If fics are oversubscribed or if it is otherwise necessary for matching, they may be removed from the list of eligible fics before the end of artist sign-ups.

If you have an issue with your match, please let the mods know as soon as possible.

Do Not Wants:

In this event, you will have an opportunity to Do Not Want (DNW) the types of content that you do not wish to work on. Similarly, if you’ve had conflicts with certain people in the past and do not want to risk matching to them, you can include this in your sign-up or draft submission, and we will avoid matching you with them (details of these will not be shared beyond the mod team).

The mods will always account for DNWs within reason; however, attempts to manipulate matches via DNWs or otherwise acting in bad faith will result in the rejection of your sign-up or draft. We are also not private detectives, and will thus not be fielding any requests such as “do not match me with anyone who has ever drawn/written XYZ.” Please keep that in mind when considering whether this event is right for you.

Expected Conduct:

By signing up for this event, you agree to do your best to meet the deadlines. If you might need a little more time, please email the mods to explain your situation before the deadline passes. The late (BST) Audiodrama Sunday

I have had a Woe.Begone hyperfocus for some time and I am only just now listening to other stuff!

Finally finished How it Ends after dipping in and out of it over several years - I was not expecting that ending! I guess the clue was in the name.

Caught up on the Hallowoods. I like this format of main story bookended by Jimmy Yamaguchi being unsettling and MAROLMAR CONTINUING TO FILL ME WITH THE WHITE HOT RAGE OF A THOUSAND SUNS. Nikignik darling you can do so much better. Although I realise your dating pool is limited… sorry babes.

Binged all of How I Died, which manages to neatly combine mystery, horror, ghosts and sci-fi with some engaging and sympathetic characters and cool twists.

Late to the Margaret's Garden party (don't tell my friends). Somehow it managed to be both beautiful and kind of.. wacky? Anyway I love Pasha.

Midst…wow, it really is everything people said it was. The story was fun, and touching, and amazing worldbuilding, but as with so many shows it was the music that made it for me. I cannot wax lyrical enough about the music. Just these amazing expansive synthwave soundscapes, like something out of Bladerunner.

In the name of getting back into K-pop, here's what I think the drivers' positions and audition stories would be like:

Charles Leclerc: Visual, Lead vocalist

Went to audition when he was 15-ish and was pretty confident on what he had prepared. He planned to play the piano and sing but when he got there the judges didn't even LET him sing or even touch the piano. Made him pose a few times and he was through to the next audition. Definitely messed with his confidence a bit because he doesn't want to be an idol just for his looks but also for his talent. Stayed a trainee for about 3 years before debuting with a dark, suit and tie concept. (Probably like movie star by CIX or dare I say BST)

Yuki Tsunoda: Main dancer, sub rapper

Was minding his own business, walking around the streets when he was casted. Wasn't interested and went to walk off but was bribed with promises of food. Low-key regrets it now cause he's forced to do the MOST AEGYO out of all the other members just because he has a baby face and is on the shorter side. Be so fr rn, his members are the anomalies, he's just an average height Asian. Was a trainee for about 2 years before debuting with a refreshing, summer concept. (Like Wave by ATEEZ or NCT Chewing Gum) The concept will definitely change as the group grows up though. Notorious for using the fact he's a foreigner to pretend he doesn't understand game rules just so he doesn't lose. Has purposely accidentally told fans to be ready to get 'Fucking lit' in a concert

Alex Albon: Face of the group, Lead rapper, Sub vocalist

Decided to audition because a family member was really into K-pop when he was younger and he thought the idols looked cool so why not. Worked really hard for his place and managed to pass auditions and become a trainee. A few months later, the company decided to send him to a survival show and he ended up finishing rank 39. Was a victim of evil editing and was slammed by K-Netizens. After that he trained for about 4 years before making his debut and proving everyone wrong about their assumptions of him. Debuted with a cool school concept. (Was honestly envisioning Run Away by TXT or Tamed Dashed by Enhypen) Adding on, for someone who hates media commitments, putting Alex as face of the group just feels right. As much as he hates it, the company LOVESSSS putting him into random variety shows. After debut, they plopped him onto Hello Counsellor and he managed to garner loads of attention with how forward he was in his suggestions and questions.

takami: I didn't speak with him directly but it appears Sin has been discharged from the hospital.

akira: Oh? And what about Kokuyou?

taiga: I still haven't been able to get in contact with him. Feels like he's ghosting me.

takami: It's possible he's shut his phone off for personal reasons.

akira: Personal huh...

sin: Can you hear the footsteps in the night?

taiga: Woah!? Sin is here!

akira: You sure got here quick. I heard you got caught up in a car accident?

sin: ...I'm fine. I just took a little knock to the head.

akira: Well, what matters is that he's ok. Now it's just Kokuyou we need to worry about... Where the heck is he?

sin: All that can be found inside the empty box is dusk. Before night falls you must block out the light.

akira: I have no idea what you're saying man.

taiga: I feel so restless, a Starless without Kokuyou in it is so weird.

takami: True... On the off chance he doesn't show up I think we should prepare a back up plan. Akira, do you have any ideas?

akira: Without our leader I'm the highest in command yeah? I know that already. We'll proceed with a version of the show with me as the centre. Find someone to fill up our missing spot.

takami: I've already asked Kasumi to help us. Mokuren gave their consent as well.

akira: Then we're already all set? You're so capable it's almost annoying y'know.

takami: We're thankful for Kasumi's help though. This way we don't need to delay and can proceed with rehearsals.

yakou: Still, it's pretty unusual that Kokuyou hasn't shown up or contacted us yet.

takami: Indeed. We can't get a hold of him at all.

mokuren: It can't be helped, want me to replace him instead of Kasumi?

takami: Someone like you wouldn't be able to sub in for Kokuyou. It's true that you used to be a W member too but you're in a league of your own.

mokuren: It's not like you to try and flatter me, Takami. You owe me one.

takami: It's not flattery, I'm being serious. And I understand that we're in your debt.

yakou: 'Abandon the Dawn' is the name of your new show huh. I think Kasumi will be able to blend right in.

mokuren: Hopefully it interferes with his C lessons. That way he'll require make-up training.

yakou: You shouldn't be saying that, Mokuren. Kokuyou isn't here so please cooperate.

mokuren: You think I care? I've done my part in helping them already.

yakou: So, if Kokuyou does return, will you have him take Kasumi's place?

akira: Eeeh, nah. We'll just have Kasumi perform the whole run.

yakou: Well, I have no complaints as long as everything goes well. It looks like it will be a success at least.

mokuren: You're lucky this is happening while the owner isn't here. He'd be making a fuss about disbanding their team right now.

It doesn't make any sense~ Also the other day he randomly told me to go and search for Sin and—

hinata (on phone): Oh, sorry, I gotta go. Someone that's hard to deal with just showed up.

kei: Chatting away on the phone during your work hours, you truly are taking your obligations lightly.

hinata: I'm on my break! I'll head right back so don't get on my case about it. And so? You got business with me or something? I'm not in the mood for a lecture.

kei: You were the first to discover Sin after he was injured, weren't you, Hinata?

hinata: What? You want to talk to me about Sin? I was told by Iwa-san to look for him... It was awful, he was bleeding everywhere and I had to call an ambulance.

kei: I see. So there were no other witnesses and you were the one who claimed he'd been in an 'accident'. There's no way to prove that is the truth.

hinata: What do you mean by that?

kei: Oh I wonder. You above all should know best what I'm insinuating. I'm just wondering if the theory that the first person on the scene is the most suspicious holds any weight.

hinata: W-wait a minute, what are you saying? You don't think I did something do you? Go ask Sin yourself, he'll tell you the same thing! It's the truth!

kokuyou: ...It reeks of mould.

saki: This place is...

kokuyou: Relatives of mine own this house. When I was a kid they looked after me for a period of time. After my grandparents died my relatives moved away and no one has lived here since. Being here again is nostalgic but this place is a complete mess. Come on in, there's still space to move around.

saki: Please excuse me.

kokuyou: Sorry about the mess. If anything gets in your way just push it aside. It's still dark out, what time is it— Right, we left our phones behind. I can't even check the time.

saki: We can't check the news or anything either.

kokuyou: I wonder if there's anything in my jacket pocket... My lighter and... This isn't gonna be useful.

saki: What is that?

kokuyou: It's an mp3 player. I put our new show's song on it.

-koku starts playing 'abandon the dawn' instrumental-

saki: (This song...)

kokuyou: .......

saki: Um, Kokuyou-san, I really am sorry for getting you involved in this.

kokuyou: There's no need for you to apologise. This isn't anything new and it's not like I could just leave you be.

saki: But your show is starting in a few days... I know, why don't you let me stay here for a while? You can head back to Starless and prepare for your show.

kokuyou: You want me to leave you on your own? Don't be ridiculous, we’re past the point of going back now.

saki: I don't want to cause you any more trouble than this.

kokuyou: Sin told me to hide you away for a week. So that's exactly what I'm gonna do. A week means I should make it back in time for the opening show. Things should calm down by then. Team W has Akira and Takami, they can handle themselves. 

saki: But you need to rehearse too, Kokuyou-san. Otherwise you won't be able to synchronise with the others.

kokuyou: Don't tell me you're worried about me messing up. I don't need any advice on that front. So long as the Starless stage exists, I'll be there.

Feel free to use the house however you like. Don't mind me. You're probably still on edge but try and get some rest. You're tired, so don't go overthinking things. I'm gonna go check something out back, don't go outside.

saki: (What time is it...? Looks like it's evening... I wonder where Kokuyou-san is.)

saki: Sorry, it wasn't intentional...

kokuyou: It's fine, you must've been really tired.

saki: Did you sleep too, Kokuyou-san?

kokuyou: Yeah, just a bit. I checked out the area too. There's a small strip of shops nearby, so if you're hungry we can grab something to eat. There's a public bathhouse there too. The shrine behind the house hasn't changed either. This place really is just as it was in the past.

saki: Oh right, you said this was your relative's place didn't you? Did you come here to play when you were little?

kokuyou: Yeah, something like that. Since I haven't been here for a while I figured we'd be safe coming this far. It doesn't seem like we've been followed but don't go wandering off on your own just in case.

saki: .......

saki: Is there nothing that you want to ask me?

kokuyou: If I did, would you even have any answers?

saki: That's...

kokuyou: I know that you don't know what's going on either. So asking anything would be pointless and only trouble you, am I right?

saki: Sorry...

kokuyou: There's nothing you need to apologise for. I've told you this already. Even if you had answers, you're not the only one who wouldn't talk about it.

saki: What do you mean?

kokuyou: Those at Starless are all the same way. If you ask them anything they're not the type to give you an honest answer. So, don't worry about it.

saki: ...Thank you.

kokuyou: Anyways, did you want to step out for a bit? We can go buy something to eat.

saki: —Um, Kokuyou-san.

kokuyou: What is it?

taiga: As expected Akira's version of Tristan is way too flashy. I could never~ 

akira: I'm always giving it my all y'know. Man~ I wish Saki-chan was here, I wanted to sing my words of love to her.

taiga: She hasn't been visiting recently. I guess she must be busy.

takami: I heard she hasn't been feeling well. Kei was worried about her.

akira: Wha, I hadn't heard that. Is she ok?

takami: I don't know the details, but I hope she feels better soon and is well enough to come visit again.

kasumi: Same~ I'd love for her to come and see the new show. And if possible, I hope it can be performed by the whole of W. So... Any updates on Kokuyou?

taiga: Nope. I think his phone battery is dead.

takami: Didn't you go check his apartment, Akira? 

akira: I did, but his motorbike wasn't there and I couldn't find him anywhere either.

sin: If the evening is destined to become darkness then the curtain of the night becomes meaningless. Furthermore, a dull blade cannot cut through the stars. That is all there is to it.

takami: It's not easy to be optimistic in a situation like this.

akira: Don't overthink it. We just gotta do what we gotta do.

taiga: A performance without Kokuyou huh... I never even considered it being a possibility. Has W ever put on a show without him before?

akira: Nope. Not that I know of at least.

taiga: I see, I'm a little worried what the audience's reaction will be like.

akira: I told you, we just gotta do it. Quit your mumbling.

taiga: Huh? Ah... Got it, sorry.

kasumi: Ahaha, Mokuren always says that if you're worried then it means you haven't practised enough, Taiga~ Let me help you with a Team C style intensive training course.

taiga: What? Hold up, since when were you this sort of character? No way!

kasumi: Can we start over from the top, Akira?

akira: ...Yeah, sure. The overall level of our performance is fine but if you're concerned about Taiga then let's focus on him.

sin: The diffused reflection of the light produces a false image. All we can do is follow the winding spiral as it disappears down into the void.

gui: I can't tell you.

heath: Oh you ‘can't’? I see what's going on here. Fine, I'll go and ask Kei then.

gui: Me too... I want to know what's going on as well.

heath: Hold it, Kei. Have you put her in danger again? Where is Saki? Tell me where she is this instant.

kei: Yes. There is someone with her to protect her. And that is neither you nor I.

heath: And can you trust this person?

kei: ...Somewhat.

heath: Why... why can't it be me? Why the fuck are you standing around here instead of helping her?

kei: Because I must be here in order to protect her. Doing so is the very reason for my existence. Gui, look after Heath. Search within yourselves for your own reasons to be.

gui: Ok.

akira: Thrown for a loop huh... Funny hearing you of all people say that. By the way, Nekome, you wouldn't happen to know anything would you?

nekome: About what?

akira: Like why someone would suddenly disappear, or where they would go if they decided to. You have experience in those areas after all, could you give me some advice?

nekome: Hahah, that's a tough question. Kokuyou and I are completely different too.

akira: Completely different? What do you mean by that?

nekome: I mean that we value and prioritise different things. The things that we can't abandon.

akira: I don't get what you're trying to say.

nekome: Hey, Akira, do you have any spare change on you?

akira: Don't extort me, you haven't even answered my question.

kei: The item that was stolen from you had already been passed off to a different courier. However the ghost is not on the move. Before long, the one in possession of the card shall also be arrested.

sin: Meaning it has not reached that man's hands yet?

kei: Those who already work for money are easily convinced by more money.

sin: I see. So you're just waiting for them to fall into your trap. Alas, it is clear who is pulling the strings behind this. We should prepare our next move.

saki: ...You have a lot of faith in them all, don't you?

kokuyou: I wouldn't say that... It's more that I just know how those on my team think. So don't look so down, none of this is your fault. 

kokuyou: —Five years ago, when I first met you, you looked like any other regular woman just living her life. Even now, I still just see you as a normal woman. Except, you've been targeted by some suspicious group that I don't know and you've even been kidnapped before. Do you really think I'm heartless enough to just leave someone like you to handle all that on your own?

saki: Kokuyou-san...

kokuyou: It's fine, get some more rest. You still look pale.

Namjoon was the epitome of obsession, it coursed through his veins just as much as blood did. 

He was comparable to a magpie, though his form of treasure was delicate little beings like you that he liked to lock up. And watch as you dance for him behind the bars of a cage, eyes piercing into your very soul until it melts and he mends you back together again. 

“What’s wrong, my darling?” Namjoon frowns, slouching back into his chair. 

You lay the book over your chest, heart-wrenching deja vu tickling your insides. “It’s just work. The old lady that owns the place is lowering our pay” 

Namjoon hums, “Why don’t you quit?” he takes off his glasses, hand running over his face. 

“Quit?” you sit up, eyebrows furrowing, “I probably have enough saved for a couple of weeks but after that I’m done for. It’s not like I’m paying rent anymore” 

Namjoon pushes himself to stand, slinking around his desk to stand before you, “That’s why I’m here. You don’t have to work anymore, I’ve got the both of us” 

You shake your head, “Namjoon I can’t do that” you tell him, leaning into his touch as his thumb caresses your jaw. 

“And why not?” He crouches down, head tilting in a way that is so very much Namjoon. 

“It’s unfair on you. Plus, I’m capable of taking care of myself” 

He runs his thumb over his bottom lip, “I know you are, but why have all the added stress when I’m more than happy to do this for us”

Some days Namjoon seemed awfully normal. Integrated perfectly into society, just like the rest of human kind. And some days you found it scary how ordinary he seemed when you knew of the things he did. He always seemed so in control of his own mind, thoughts easily articulated into convincing words, dressed proper, a kind smile. 

It was unnerving how someone so perfect was so very much the evil that you fear as a child. The grim reaper who melts into the darkess, takes a life and thinks no more of that pitiful being’s existence as he stalks through the night ready to chew on another soul. 

Maybe it was blissful ignorance that had chained you to him. If he were the being that men feared then it was only smart to latch onto him, to pretend he didn’t do all these bad things and let him squeeze his way into your heart. For you to be docile and quiet and everything he wanted from you. Even if his love hurt, thick shards of glass piercing their way into your heart and your mind and your body and your soul.

Please read through the information carefully to understand what will be expected of you as a participant.

You do not need to have decided what you will be writing at this stage, but please consider whether the fic requirements are compatible with what you have in mind, and be sure that you can commit to contacting us on the below deadlines to share your progress (or withdraw your participation if necessary).

Check-in 1: June 11th

Full First Draft & Summary Due: July 9th

Artist Sign-ups: July 17th - 23rd

Participation Requirements:

You must choose whether to join the Big Bang as an artist or writer. You may not do both.

Writers will require an AO3 account; if you do not have an AO3 account, please request one via AO3’s login page.

If you wish to write M or E rated fics you must be aged over 18.

All participants must read and adhere to the Expected Conduct guidelines (see below).

Minimum Final Word Count: 20,000

Maximum Number of Fics per Writer/s: 1

Maximum Number of Writers per Fic (collaboration): 2

Fic Draft Requirements: At the draft deadline (July 9th), we will require a complete draft of at least 18,000 words. “Complete” means that the fic is written from start to finish with no indispensable scenes missing or left as outlines—think, “If I posted this right now, would I be happy with the story it tells?”

Ideally, you will refine and polish your draft in the remaining time, but it can also be your final draft if you prefer.

Drafts will be handed in via a form that will be sent out to you before the deadline. Drafts should be available in Google docs, or if need be in PDF format.

Summary Requirements: A form for the summary will be sent out to you before the deadline. Summaries should briefly outline the general premise, and include rating, ships, triggers and other warnings, and any other relevant details.

Fics of any rating and with any warnings are permitted, as long as they meet the minimum word count (20,000), are centered around at least one Rusty Quill original podcast (The Magnus Archives, Rusty Quill Gaming, Stellar Firma, Inexplicables, Chapter & Multiverse, Trice Forgotten), and are tagged appropriately.

We encourage authors to take this opportunity to challenge themselves to take on a project that they might not otherwise—though please consider what is realistic in terms of the deadlines as well!

Fics must be stand-alone (requires no knowledge of previous fics to enjoy), complete (resolves all main plotlines within the story, as opposed to being part I of a trilogy, etc.), and previously unposted.

Crossovers are allowed, but the focus should be on the RQ podcast involved. For example: a fusion crossover with the Leverage Team replacing the LOLOMG in the RQG!verse would not be permitted, though the RQG characters in the Leverage!verse would be.

Please be aware that fics with obscure crossovers, common squicks, higher ratings, etc., may be more difficult to match, and thus take a little longer to get snapped up. We will do our best to find you a suitable match, though!

Matching Process:

The artist sign-up will include a list of the anonymised fic summaries. Each artist will select 3 fics which they would be interested in creating for, with additional preferences (favourite show/shows they do not follow, OTPs and NoTPs, Do Not Wants, etc.) indicated in the comment field. Mods will then match writers to artists, taking preferences into account as much as possible.

If fics are oversubscribed or if it is otherwise necessary for matching, they may be removed from the list of eligible fics before the end of artist sign-ups.

If you have an issue with your match, please let the mods know as soon as possible.

Do Not Wants:

In this event, you will have an opportunity to Do Not Want (DNW) the types of content that you do not wish to work on. Similarly, if you’ve had conflicts with certain people in the past and do not want to risk matching to them, you can include this in your sign-up or draft submission, and we will avoid matching you with them (details of these will not be shared beyond the mod team).

The mods will always account for DNWs within reason; however, attempts to manipulate matches via DNWs or otherwise acting in bad faith will result in the rejection of your sign-up or draft. We are also not private detectives, and will thus not be fielding any requests such as “do not match me with anyone who has ever drawn/written XYZ.” Please keep that in mind when considering whether this event is right for you.

Expected Conduct:

By signing up for this event, you agree to do your best to meet the deadlines. If you might need a little more time, please email the mods to explain your situation before the deadline passes. Those who miss deadlines without contacting the mods beforehand may be dropped from the event without further contact.

In order to participate in this event, you must be willing to contact the mods directly in the event that you have a question, concern, or issue with your participation (as in the deadline example above). We are happy to help participants with anything that arises, but cannot accept “telephone”-style communiques on behalf of others.

Be in regular contact with your match—if you’re going to be offline for a significant length of time, let them know. Radio silence from your match in events of this kind can be very concerning. (If you are having trouble getting in touch with your match, please contact us!)

Please take care to credit your artist/writer in your own final post.

Our Discord server has its own list of rules, which are listed within the server. If you decide to join the server, we require you to read and abide by those rules.

Be kind and courteous towards your match and fellow participants. This naturally means that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are prohibited, but even where those are not at play, you are expected to treat others with respect.

We, like Rusty Quill, have an “all headcanons are valid” policy. Harassment or mockery of those with different interpretations will not be tolerated. This does not mean you cannot discuss how you see the characters with others or that your artist/writer should not take it into account at their discretion, but insistence that any one interpretation must be adhered to is not allowed.

If you have concerns that a work or participant may be in violation of the rules, please bring it to the mods directly. Harassment of other participants (including but not limited to callout posts, name-calling, baiting, etc.), either publicly or in the Piles of Nonsense discord server, over their identities, fanworks, or headcanons will result in an instant default.
