Part 1

Chapter 2 SideA

-starless balcony, evening-

sinju: Is anyone out here…? Good, it doesn't seem like it.

heath: Sorry, but I’m here too.

sinju: Uwah!? That scared the hell out of me. So you were here, Heath. What are you doing? You don’t smoke, right?

heath: Nope, I don't. I just wanted to be alone for a bit. Right after the store opens those on the staff shift are busy attending to the hall. And what about you, Sinju? Isn't your show going to be starting soon?

sinju: Yeah, I was actually thinking of going over my steps again quickly before the real deal but… Then I didn't really feel like doing it anymore and ended up coming here instead.

heath: Well, you see, I’m out here watching the sky.

sinju: The sky?

heath: It's going to rain soon.

sinju: Huh? Is it? Damn, but I didn't bring an umbrella today.

heath: At least, it might. But it probably won't rain in the end.

sinju: Huh? So it won't rain?

heath: The sky is perfectly clear right now, isn't it? So it probably won't.

sinju: Oh… Right.

heath: You really trust whatever people tell you, don't you? You didn't doubt me at all.

sinju: That's cause I have no reason to doubt you. Not to mention, we're friends, aren't we? We're not enemies or anything.

heath: Hmm, if you say so. If you're able to trust me this blindly, then I’m sure you must trust Rindou even more.

sinju: Well yeah, I think Rindou is seriously amazing. Say, Heath, how does Team P look to the rest of you guys right now?

heath: I can't speak for the others, but the reason you're asking me that is because you must have a problem with P, right? So, that's why I think things must be hard for you right now.

sinju: Sorry, it was weird of me to ask you that. It's just, I’ve been messing up and holding the team back, so things haven't been going well.

heath: Is that so? …Sounds tough.

sinju: Ah~ I’m sorry! I’m acting so lame right now! I’m sounding like I’m looking to be comforted. Let's just pretend this never happened, ok?

heath: Huh? You want me to forget it? Not comfort you?

sinju: Yeah, please forget it. Anyways, I need to try my best however I can. I’m gonna go rehearse my steps before the show. Thank you for hearing me out!

-sinju runs off-

heath: He went from moping about to back on his feet all on his own. What amazing self-motivation he has… 

heath: Team P, huh? I wonder what will happen to them from here on out. I can't help but envy them a little though… Since Rindou is a leader who gets things done, and Sinju is someone who can stand up for himself.

Chapter 2 SideA extra

-rehearsal room-

lico: Hey, I just saw Sinju sleeping in the locker room, he fainted, didn't he?

heath: I saw him too. I put a towel over him.

ran: I did too! His brows were all furrowed so I put the towel right on his face.

heath: Oh, that was you, Ran? It looked like he couldn't breathe so I removed it.

ran: Ahaha! He was just sleepin’ though, wasn't he?

lico: No he definitely passed out cause of Rindou’s hardcore training. No matter how you look at it, Rindou has been acting strange lately. He’s way too intense. It can't feel good to have that much pressure placed on you.

ran: Huh? What's this? That sounds kinda cool! 

lico: Excuse me? What are you saying?

ran: Despite bein’ all sparkly and perfect on the stage, behind the scenes they're throwin’ up blood! It's so idol core!

lico: What kind of image of idols do you have? What I’m trying to say is that Rindou is weirding me out.

heath: Rindou has made up his mind.

lico: Made up his mind on what?

heath: Various things.

ran: What's this, what's this? Did you soul link with him cause you're a fellow singer? At this rate you're goin’ to become an idol too, Heath! You're so cool as well~ I want to know what connectin’ souls feels like~

lico: Seriously, what are you going on about? You’ve lost it. Anyways, I’d never accept it. I’d hate it if my team’s principles changed like that.

ran: Their principles haven't changed though, their show is still super sparkly.

heath: That may be true. However, nothing stays the same forever. If the situation of a team changes, it could happen to any of us.

lico: Well, I’d be against it. Think of all of the fans who've supported us till now.

ran: That's cause all you want is to be loved, Lico~

lico: Shut up.

Chapter 2 SideB

-bar-

kokuyou: Yo, Kou-san.

iwami: Kokuyou. Well isn't this a coincidence.

kokuyou: Nah, it's not a coincidence. I just told the bartender to tell me when you’d be coming.

iwami: If you needed me you could've just contacted me by phone.

kokuyou: Hey, I’d like to order. A beer and some food. Preferably something filling.

iwami: As always you're not listening.

-time pass-

iwami: How come we're just sitting here drinking and snacking? Didn't you have business with me?

kokuyou: C’mon man let me get something in my stomach. I had to work all day unlike you.

iwami: Sure sure. I am just a wandering unemployed man after all.

kokuyou: If you wanna talk, how about you start? Talking to keep up appearances is your specialty isn't it?

iwami: You should respect your elders. Well, not like I’ve done anything that's worth respecting.

kokuyou: So you're aware of it?

iwami: You’ve always been like that. Arrogant and never walking down any other path than your own. When you came to Starless, do you remember what you said to me?

kokuyou: As if I’d remember something from that long ago.

iwami: You said that the place was a dump and that the name was lame. I’ve held a grudge ever since. 

kokuyou: Did I really say that? Ah, actually, maybe I did. That place really was a dump after all.

iwami: Despite working at a restaurant you never cracked a smile and served everyone with a stern expression.

kokuyou: You're the one who hired me despite knowing I’d be that way. Plus it was boisterous enough with just you and Nekome being there.

iwami: Getting to know your regular customers is part of the job.

kokuyou: A normal person wouldn't come back a second time if the waiter just ignored their order and chatted with them instead.

iwami: It's fine isn't it? I started the store up as a hobby, so I can do whatever I want with my store.

kokuyou: Your store huh… Well, I guess it's still technically true. And so, Kou-san, what is it exactly that you're scheming?

iwami: ……..

kokuyou: Not gonna drink? Your hand stopped.

iwami: ……. (drinks)

iwami: You're not gonna turn a blind eye, are you?

kokuyou: Nope. I’ve looked away for long enough already. So tell me, who are you?

iwami: I told you already. I’m just a regular unemployed old man. That's it.

kokuyou: That's what you’ve always been though. Well whatever, you obviously don't plan on answering.

By the way, did you know this? Around two years ago Mokuren and Mizuki had a versus. Team C vs Team B, the winner would decide what would happen to the old Starless building.

iwami: What do you mean by what would happen to it?

kokuyou: Whether Starless would be demolished or left alone. Since that old building caused Saki’s health to deteriorate.

iwami: …I see.

kokuyou: In the end Mizuki’s Team B won and the old Starless was left as is. However, if Mokuren had won, who knows what would've happened.

iwami: The old building would've been demolished. Isn't that what you just said?

kokuyou: I’m doubtful of whether that would've actually happened though. Cause I mean, isn't it strange that that old dump of a building is still there to begin with? Could you tell me why it is that you’ve let that building stay there?

iwami: I never thought you'd be asking me that. But the old Starless is just an empty shell. Nothing more, nothing less.

kokuyou: Is that so? Then you don't care what happens to it? Even if I were to destroy it myself?

iwami: Kokuyou.

kokuyou: Welp I’ve had my fill, I’ll leave my cash here. You can keep drinking if you want.

-kokuyou leaves-

Chapter 3 SideA

(note: Team P’s show is based on the opera ‘Andrea Chénier’. The script originally had Chéneir as the protagonist like the original story, but Rindou changed the protagonist to be the story’s antagonist, Gérard.)

cw: suicidal thoughts

-rehearsal room-

maica: Enough, Rindou! Just how many times do you plan on repeating this part? There's a limit to how many times I can sing it before it ruins my vocal chords, you know. Are you really that dissatisfied with my singing?

rindou: No, that's not the reason. It's just that I still feel a sense of disconnect with Gérard.

maica: And what does that mean exactly? Tell me what kind of portrayal you're aiming for.

rindou: Grief, anger, powerlessness, regret… The loneliness of not being able to let go of a loved one that you've lost. And finally, hope. Gérard sees hope in Chénier’s poems. 

maica: Yeah. My interpretation of that aspect is the same.

rindou: However, Maica. I feel as though you're still going easy on me.

maica: No I’m not.

rindou: You can do better. Despite having not died, what ultimately kills Gérard is hearing you singing whilst on death row. Chénier and Maddalena die together, so Gérard does not die. 

He’s left behind— Within a deep despair and deep envy towards the hope that those two held.

maica: Rindou. Are you saying that your Gérard wants to die?

rindou: Wants to die… Yeah, I suppose he does. It would have been better if Gérard had died first. If he had been able to save Chénier and Maddalena, Gerard’s death would’ve left a scar on their hearts.

But, Gérard doesn't die. I know that all too well. And so, he is left to despair. Left behind in a world that’s devoid of love.

maica: So that's what makes the story a tragedy when Gérard is the protagonist? I'll think about it some more then.

Say, Rindou. How come you suddenly decided to change the protagonist of the story? While it's true that the original protagonist Chénier is naive, spoiled and an annoying idealist, he has all the key elements that make a protagonist. The opera is even named after him.

rindou: Yes. He has a natural talent for poetry, he's honest, has a pure and beautiful heart and lastly, a strong sense of devotion. 

Chénier has friends that would lay their lives down for him and even when he's captured he still acts noble. But… He's a protagonist that's a little too perfect. I guess you could say that that's the reason I decided to change it.

maica: What? What do you mean?

rindou: Starless isn't a beautiful place. The stages of the outside world are far out of our reach. So, I think that a warped protagonist suits a stage like ours better.

Chapter 3 SideA extra

-starless office-

kongou: Ah, Saki-chan. Would you like to sample this drink for me?

saki: What is it? A hot drink with honey and lemon? I’ll try it. Wah, it's delicious! It goes down easy, it's not too sweet so it's really refreshing.

-mizuki and hinata appear-

mizuki: Drinking something tasty in here are we? Gimme some too.

hinata: You're looking cute again today, Miss! ♪

saki: Uwah!? (she drops her cup)

kongou: Woah there. (he catches it)

saki: S-sorry about that. The cup just slipped out of my hands…

kongou: It's ok, I caught it. Besides, it wasn't your fault anyways. You two, suddenly running in front of her like that is dangerous.

mizuki: What, I could smell something good in here. Gimme a sip.

kongou: No. This drink is for Maica.

hinata: Oh~ He’s in the middle of a show’s run so is that honey lemon drink to help take care of his throat? I can see why he’d need it! Maica’s been rehearsing nonstop.

mizuki: Is that so? (sneakily steals the drink anyway) Woah, this is yum.

hinata: Team P look like they've been going through it. Rindou is so strict with them.

mizuki: That's just how he is. It's his way or the highway. It seriously pisses me off. You think so too right, Saki? 

saki: Huh? You're asking me about Rindou-san? Um—

choice:

-He said that he wants to create a new Team P

-I think that he's serious about the stage

-I’m worried that something happened

>He said that he wants to create a new Team P

-flashback, rehearsal room-

rindou: I want to create a new Team P.

-present, office-

saki: Rindou-san said that he wants to create a new Team P.

mizuki: A new Team P? Then what the hell is the current Team P to him? (gulps down drink) He’s so up himself, pisses me off.

hinata: Ahaha, you really hate on Rindou way too much, Mizuki.

kongou: Mizuki’s never hidden his distaste for him. Anyways, I do hope that they manage to get through their show without incident. I’ll go and deliver this drink to Maica now.

…Hm? Why’s the bottle so light?

mizuki: Heheh, thanks for the drink! See ya~ Let's go, Hinata!

hinata: Huh!? I didn't even get to try some! Make one for me too next time, Kongou!

-mizuki and hinata run off-

kongou: Well, what can you do? I guess I’ll make a new batch. Would you like to come and taste test it for me again, Saki-chan?

saki: I think that Rindou-san takes the stage very seriously.

hinata: I get what you mean~ He's almost like an honours student or something. He acts as if being diligent is the only correct way to be. He’s the type of person who would say that the most logical argument is always the correct one.

kongou: Is that really a fault though? The most logical argument would be correct, wouldn’t it?

hinata: Nope. Not always, Kongou.

mizuki: So basically, Rindou’s shit.

kongou: Anyways, I do hope that they manage to get through their show without incident. 

—

>I’m worried something happened 

-flashback, restaurant area-

rindou: Please be careful. I don’t want you to end up being taken advantage of as well. 

-present, starless office-

saki: I think that something might have happened. I’m worried about Rindou-san…

kongou: True, Rindou is the kind of person to bottle up his feelings and push forwards. It would be better if he didn't try to carry whatever's burdening him all by himself.

mizuki: I don't get it. Like who cares about Rindou anyways?

hinata: Ahaha, Mizuki you're way too heartless!

kongou: Anyways, I do hope that they manage to get through their show without incident.

-alleyway, day-

hinata: Sigh~ Iwa-san sure is taking his sweet time. Even though I told him that I had to talk to him… Oh well.

-hinata holds up phone to his ear-

hinata (on phone): Hello~? It's me, big bro. I’m waiting for Iwa-san at the moment. Remember that thing you said? I figured I’d meet up with him so I can pass it on to him.

You said it wasn't something that could be said over the phone, right? That's why I’m waiting for Iwa-san to show up… I wonder if he wandered off somewhere, I need to get back to work soon too.

hinata (on phone): Yeah, it's been super fun! Team B really are the best. I wish you could've seen our last show.

-iwami appears-

hinata (on phone): Ah, Iwa-san is here! I’ll call you again later, see you.

-hinata puts his phone away-

hinata: Iwa-san~ Over here, over here.

iwami: Yo, sorry for the wait… You look like you're in a good mood.

hinata: Of course I am! I got to play a really cool role in our fifth anniversary performance. I seriously love Team B so much. They’re all super close, we’re like brothers!

iwami: Like brothers huh? It appears you're enjoying being in the little brother position to the fullest.

hinata: Well yeah. My actual big bro said that he's happy for me as well~ Oh right, I was just on the phone with him, he says hi to you, Iwa-san.

iwami: …Tell him I said hello as well.

hinata: Sure thing~

iwami: So, what is it that you wanted to talk about? You said it couldn't be over the phone.

hinata: I’m passing on a message from my brother. He told me I had to tell you this in person.

iwami: A message? For me?

hinata: He said that BLACKCARD will be necessary soon.

hinata: I have no idea what that means though~ Is it about that black coloured card that you were looking for?

iwami: Ah, yeah, something like that.

hinata: Well you better put your back into finding it! You can't let that old man get a hold of it before you!

iwami: Which old man?

hinata: Ha! Se! Ya! Ma! He seriously pisses me off. I went and introduced myself to him and he was such an asshole about it. I wish we had’ve won that versus against him, then he would've been shocked speechless.

haseyama: Hahaha, true, he really would’ve been.

Please pass this on to your— To your brother for me. Tell him that I’ve begun making my own preparations as well. And that I also require a black card for them.

Though, Saki-chan and Sin’s cards have proven that they’ll be hard to obtain. 

hinata: Are they the only ones that you can get?

iwami: I did have another one, but I’m not sure where it is now. Well, I suppose I’ll just have to go and ask the guy who took it off my hands.

(note: Unlike other scenes that show characters on the phone, when Hinata talks to his brother, there are no beep sounds to indicate him picking up or ending the call.)

And you know what?

You deserve a break!

You deserve to feel happy!

It's been a lot lately, and some people might try to shame you for being happy about something while there's so much not so happy going on in the world, but please oh please remember, that you deserve to have happiness too.

Even if it's just a little here or there, or bounds of happiness -- you deserve a break from all the things you have to deal with every day. You deserve a chance to smile, and to laugh, and to enjoy this crazy life we live, and bask in the warm sun, or the cold wind.

You do not need to feel bad for enjoying yourself once in a while. No matter what it is-- even if its unrelated to the fandom, or anything that's happened the last couple days, please go out today or tomorrow and enjoy something.

Do you like tea? Drink a cup of your favorite tea!

Do you like going for walks? Get on out there and move those legs!

Do you like animals? Find a random neighborhood cat (not a wild one) and give it some much needed pets if it's friendly!

Do something that brings YOU joy, not anyone else. Take a moment to savor that feeling, hold it deep down in your chest where you can feel your breath coming in and out, and remember that you deserve to feel that joy, and you don't have to do anything different, or be any different to deserve it. 💖 Sending so many good vibes lovelies-- may your day be filled with excitement and wonder, or calm and love, whatever it is that will brings you joy. 💖

We ask that you check your email (including the spam folder!) and reply so we can confirm that your registered email address is correct and you still intend to participate.

Participation Requirements:

You must choose whether to join the Big Bang as an artist or writer. You may not do both.

Writers will require an AO3 account; if you do not have an AO3 account, please request one via AO3’s login page.

If you wish to write M or E rated fics you must be aged over 18.

All participants must read and adhere to the Expected Conduct guidelines (see below).

Minimum Final Word Count: 20,000

Maximum Number of Fics per Writer/s: 1

Maximum Number of Writers per Fic (collaboration): 2

Fic Draft Requirements: At the draft deadline (August 18th), we will require a complete draft of at least 18,000 words. “Complete” means that the fic is written from start to finish with no indispensable scenes missing or left as outlines—think, “If I posted this right now, would I be happy with the story it tells?”

Ideally, you will refine and polish your draft in the remaining time, but it can also be your final draft if you prefer.

Drafts will be handed in via a form that will be sent out to you before the deadline. Drafts should be available in Google docs, or if need be in PDF format.

Summary Requirements: A form for the summary will be sent out to you before the deadline. Summaries should briefly outline the general premise, and include rating, ships, triggers and other warnings, and any other relevant details.

Eligible Fics:

Fics of any rating and with any warnings are permitted, as long as they meet the minimum word count (20,000), are centered around at least one Rusty Quill original podcast (The Magnus Archives, The Magnus Protocol, Rusty Quill Gaming, Stellar Firma, Inexplicables, Chapter & Multiverse, Trice Forgotten, Cry Havoc!, Neon Inkwell), and are tagged appropriately.

We encourage authors to take this opportunity to challenge themselves to take on a project that they might not otherwise—though please consider what is realistic in terms of the deadlines as well!

Fics must be stand-alone (requires no knowledge of previous fics to enjoy), complete (resolves all main plotlines within the story, as opposed to being part I of a trilogy, etc.), and previously unposted.

Crossovers are allowed, but the focus should be on the RQ podcast involved. For example: a fusion crossover with the Leverage Team replacing the LOLOMG in the RQG!verse would not be permitted, though the RQG characters in the Leverage!verse would be.

Please be aware that fics with obscure crossovers, common squicks, higher ratings, etc., may be more difficult to match, and thus take a little longer to get snapped up. We will do our best to find you a suitable match, though!

If you have any questions about the suitability of your fic, please contact the mods.

Matching Process:

The artist sign-up will include a list of the anonymised fic summaries. Each artist will select 3 fics which they would be interested in creating for, with additional preferences (favourite show/shows they do not follow, OTPs and NoTPs, Do Not Wants, etc.) indicated in the comment field. Mods will then match writers to artists, taking preferences into account as much as possible.

If fics are oversubscribed or if it is otherwise necessary for matching, they may be removed from the list of eligible fics before the end of artist sign-ups.

If you have an issue with your match, please let the mods know as soon as possible.

Do Not Wants:

In this event, you will have an opportunity to Do Not Want (DNW) the types of content that you do not wish to work on. Similarly, if you’ve had conflicts with certain people in the past and do not want to risk matching to them, you can include this in your sign-up or draft submission, and we will avoid matching you with them (details of these will not be shared beyond the mod team).

The mods will always account for DNWs within reason; however, attempts to manipulate matches via DNWs or otherwise acting in bad faith will result in the rejection of your sign-up or draft. We are also not private detectives, and will thus not be fielding any requests such as “do not match me with anyone who has ever drawn/written XYZ.” Please keep that in mind when considering whether this event is right for you.

Expected Conduct:

By signing up for this event, you agree to do your best to meet the deadlines. If you might need a little more time, please email the mods to explain your situation before the deadline passes. Those who miss deadlines without contacting the mods beforehand may be dropped from the event without further contact.

In order to participate in this event, you must be willing to contact the mods directly in the event that you have a question, concern, or issue with your participation (as in the deadline example above). We are happy to help participants with anything that arises, but cannot accept “telephone”-style communiques on behalf of others.

Be in regular contact with your match—if you’re going to be offline for a significant length of time, let them know. Radio silence from your match in events of this kind can be very concerning. (If you are having trouble getting in touch with your match, please contact us!)

Please take care to credit your artist/writer in your own final post.

Our Discord server has its own list of rules, which are listed within the server. If you decide to join the server, we require you to read and abide by those rules.

Be kind and courteous towards your match and fellow participants. This naturally means that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are prohibited, but even where those are not at play, you are expected to treat others with respect.

We, like Rusty Quill, have an “all headcanons are valid” policy. Harassment or mockery of those with different interpretations will not be tolerated. This does not mean you cannot discuss how you see the characters with others or that your artist/writer should not take it into account at their discretion, but insistence that any one interpretation must be adhered to is not allowed.

If you have concerns that a work or participant may be in violation of the rules, please bring it to the mods directly. Harassment of other participants (including but not limited to callout posts, name-calling, baiting, etc.), either publicly or in the Piles of Nonsense discord server, over their identities, fanworks, or headcanons will result in an instant default.

The late (BST) Audiodrama Sunday

I have had a Woe.Begone hyperfocus for some time and I am only just now listening to other stuff!

Finally finished How it Ends after dipping in and out of it over several years - I was not expecting that ending! I guess the clue was in the name.

Caught up on the Hallowoods. I like this format of main story bookended by Jimmy Yamaguchi being unsettling and MAROLMAR CONTINUING TO FILL ME WITH THE WHITE HOT RAGE OF A THOUSAND SUNS. Nikignik darling you can do so much better. Although I realise your dating pool is limited… sorry babes.

Binged all of How I Died, which manages to neatly combine mystery, horror, ghosts and sci-fi with some engaging and sympathetic characters and cool twists.

Late to the Margaret's Garden party (don't tell my friends). Somehow it managed to be both beautiful and kind of.. wacky? Anyway I love Pasha.

Midst…wow, it really is everything people said it was. The story was fun, and touching, and amazing worldbuilding, but as with so many shows it was the music that made it for me. I cannot wax lyrical enough about the music. Just these amazing expansive synthwave soundscapes, like something out of Bladerunner.

1,000 Words This Weekend: A Challenge

Last weekend, we wrote over 17,500 words together. Let's do it again!

The goal is pretty simple. Write 1,000 words or more over the next two days. You can work on anything you want — a blog, essay, fanfic, short story or chapter for your upcoming novel.

By committing to a goal and writing alongside other people, it's much more likely that you'll follow through. That's one of the main challenges of working solo on a project. When there's no boss or team, who will keep you accountable?

Namjoon was the epitome of obsession, it coursed through his veins just as much as blood did. 

He was comparable to a magpie, though his form of treasure was delicate little beings like you that he liked to lock up. And watch as you dance for him behind the bars of a cage, eyes piercing into your very soul until it melts and he mends you back together again. 

“What’s wrong, my darling?” Namjoon frowns, slouching back into his chair. 

You lay the book over your chest, heart-wrenching deja vu tickling your insides. “It’s just work. The old lady that owns the place is lowering our pay” 

Namjoon hums, “Why don’t you quit?” he takes off his glasses, hand running over his face. 

“Quit?” you sit up, eyebrows furrowing, “I probably have enough saved for a couple of weeks but after that I’m done for. It’s not like I’m paying rent anymore” 

Namjoon pushes himself to stand, slinking around his desk to stand before you, “That’s why I’m here. You don’t have to work anymore, I’ve got the both of us” 

You shake your head, “Namjoon I can’t do that” you tell him, leaning into his touch as his thumb caresses your jaw. 

“And why not?” He crouches down, head tilting in a way that is so very much Namjoon. 

“It’s unfair on you. Plus, I’m capable of taking care of myself” 

He runs his thumb over his bottom lip, “I know you are, but why have all the added stress when I’m more than happy to do this for us”

Some days Namjoon seemed awfully normal. Integrated perfectly into society, just like the rest of human kind. And some days you found it scary how ordinary he seemed when you knew of the things he did. He always seemed so in control of his own mind, thoughts easily articulated into convincing words, dressed proper, a kind smile. 

It was unnerving how someone so perfect was so very much the evil that you fear as a child. The grim reaper who melts into the darkess, takes a life and thinks no more of that pitiful being’s existence as he stalks through the night ready to chew on another soul. 

Maybe it was blissful ignorance that had chained you to him. If he were the being that men feared then it was only smart to latch onto him, to pretend he didn’t do all these bad things and let him squeeze his way into your heart. For you to be docile and quiet and everything he wanted from you. Even if his love hurt, thick shards of glass piercing their way into your heart and your mind and your body and your soul.

[BSTS] Main Story S6CH1 'Our Hands Can't Reach Tomorrow' - Part 1

Chapter 1-1

-flashback, street-

kei: What the black cards are… I cannot answer that now. As I am, I do not have the right to stay by your side. Since there is so much that I’ve been unable to tell you, I have caused you such sadness.

-present, outside starless, day-

saki: (Why did I decide to walk to Starless…)

unei: Oh, Saki-san~! I’m glad you’re here~!

saki: Unei-san. You surprised me… What's the matter?

unei: Kei-san said that you might not be coming today so I was worried.

saki: Kei-san said that?

unei: Did you two have an argument? That's hard to believe, since Kei-san is always doting on you. Ah, nevermind, that’s not what I wanted to say. The truth is the Boss told me that he wanted to talk with you.

saki: Huh? The owner does?

unei: Yes! I won't get scolded now, thank god~ Here, come with me.

saki: W-wait a moment. Why does he want to speak with me…!?

-haseyama’s office-

unei: Boss~ I’ve brought Saki-san as requested! –Ah, looks like he's in the middle of a phone call, he shouldn't take too much longer though. I’ll take my leave here.

-unei leaves-

saki: Ah, please wait, Unei-san…! He left…

haseyama: Hello there, young lady. My bad, I wasn't able to ignore that phone call. Anyways, I’m glad you decided to visit today. I’ve been waiting to see you~

Remember we spoke during the fifth anniversary performance as well? I decided to call out to you at that time, though things have been busy since then. I’m in a real pinch here, even my subsidiary  company is in trouble.

saki: Ok…?

haseyama: So, young lady. I’ll get to the main topic. There's actually something that I’d like to ask you. You know the method to access what's on the black cards, don't you?

saki: The access method…?

haseyama: After I won that versus in May, as my reward I got that bastard Iwami to cough up some information. You have a black card don't you, young lady? And it's not a normal one either.

The card that I have is a low grade one y’see. I can't access any worthwhile information on it.

saki: I see…

haseyama: Hey now, don't just stare at me blankly. Don't try acting like you have no idea what I’m talking about. You have a black coloured card, don't you? A card that's completely black. I’m telling you to let me see how you use it.

saki: E-even if you ask me that I have no idea what this card even is.

haseyama: Hah, so you do have one after all. I didn't fully believe what Iwami had told me. The last thing I expected was for a normal looking lady like you to have used a black card. 

I was completely and utterly fooled~ You’ve managed to hide it from me this entire time whilst visiting the store every other day.

saki: Um, what are you talking about?

haseyama: I’m the same, I’ve been here running this store for a long time without even knowing why. To be honest with you I was starting to get fed up with it. I’ve said it from the start, I have no interest in watching thugs jump about on stage.

And not to mention the fact I was gone for more than a year. Stuck in a hospital bed for that long. Do you know how many business opportunities I’ve lost because of that?

This is all because I took a bullet to protect you, young lady. Do you not remember that, huh?

saki: Um.. I am truly grateful for what you did for me back then. But I really don't know anything about these black cards.

haseyama: Come on now are you seriously still playing dumb? In front of the man who saved your life? 

saki: Um, I really don't, um…

haseyama: Ohh~ I see, is that how it's gonna be then? You're quite the actress too huh. I guess that's to be expected of a black card owner. And so? How much is the info gonna cost?

saki: What do you mean? This isn't a money issue, I seriously just don't know anything about this card.

haseyama: You can quit the act now. Or are you trying to swindle more money out of me?

saki: No, you're misunderstanding.

haseyama: Then what is your motive here, huh?

-flashback, restaurant area-

rindou: Please be careful. I don’t want you to end up being taken advantage of as well. 

-present-

-gui rushes into the room-

gui: Haseyama, do not get any closer to her.

haseyama: What the hell? Who said you could just barge into my room? I’m your employer, you know.

gui: Saki, Kei told me to come here. He said that it's not necessary for you to listen to what Haseyama has to say.

haseyama: Bastard! What are you saying all of a sudden? I’m the one who gets to decide whether or not it's necessary!

gui: …That is what Kei said.

haseyama: Damn it, if only you two weren't so sharp. You're indebted to me so I thought things would go more smoothly. Oh well, time will tell.

Hey, young lady.

gui: You can leave, Saki. Kei wants you to go to the rehearsal room. He said he wants you to talk to Rindou.

saki: (To Rindou-san?)

haseyama: Hey I’m talking to her!

gui: Go, Saki.

saki: O-ok. Um, please excuse me…!

-saki runs off-

-rehearsal room-

sinju: Uu….

saki: Sinju-san!?

rindou: Sinju…

sinju: I’m sorry, Rindou. I made a mistake just now.

rindou: It appears you haven't memorised the choreography yet. Are you ok? It's probably best to make adjustments then. Nekome, I’d like to test having you cover for Sinju.

nekome: Huh? Me?

menou: Rindou, I can cover for him. The scene includes the three of us after all.

sinju: W-wait a sec, Rindou! I’m fine, I can dance!

rindou: Ok. Let's try it again one more time then.

maica: Wait, Rindou. Sinju’s body is already at its physical limit.

sinju: I’m fine, Maica. I’m telling you myself that I’m fine! Uwah…! 

-sinju falls over-

saki: Sinju-san!? Are you sure you're ok!?

sinju: Sorry. Ow… My legs just got a little tangled…

rindou: He's fine, Saki-san. Sorry for worrying you.

maica: Are you being serious right now, Rindou? You've pushed him without a break for so long that his legs are exhausted.

rindou: I see, that may be true. But even so–

nekome: Rindou~ Aren't you pressing on the accelerator a bit too hard? We only just recently finished our fifth anniversary performance, how about we just take our time to ease into this new one today?

rindou: You’re saying that even though it's a Team P solo performance? I have no intention to make any compromises.

sinju: I- I don't want to have to make any compromises either! But um, I just got a little confused by the choreography, that's all… I didn't forget the steps. I’m sorry for getting them mixed up.

rindou: I get that. Just don't do it again. We need to re-examine the benchmark concerning the quality of our shows.

maica: The benchmark of our show's quality? What do you mean by that?

menou: He's getting pretentious again…

rindou: I want to create a new Team P.

sinju: A new Team P? What do you mean by ‘new’ exactly? As in a new type of show?

rindou: It's simple. We're just going to dig even deeper than we have been up until now, and perform our show. My goal has not changed. No matter what you're aiming for, we can work towards a new Starless. That is the kind of stage that Team P creates.

nekome: Rindou, that's…

maica: So it’s like we’re renewing our conviction then huh? Then sure, Rindou.

sinju: I’ll do my best in order to not look so shameful again!

menou: I’m fine with that too. Let's see if you can really do it, Rindou. If you can really create this new Team P that you're looking for.

rindou: Yes, I will. I’ve always been trying to do that from the very beginning.

saki: Rindou-san…

rindou: It's ok, Saki-san. Please look forward to Team P’s brand new show.

-haseyama’s office-

iwami: What is it? It's pretty rare for you to call me over.

haseyama: I’m making a claim for compensation. What you told me wasn't the truth now was it?

iwami: What are you talking about?

haseyama: The young lady! She just stared at me like she had no idea what was going on. Argh~ It was humiliating!

iwami: No idea what was going on huh… I see, so that's what this is about. She's surprisingly tough.

haseyama: She said that she had one.

iwami: Had what?

haseyama: A black card, obviously. She wouldn't show me it though. …Wait! I should've just made up something and convinced her to bring it out. Shit, why didn't I think of that earlier!

Anyways, Iwami. This is different from what you told me. If I can't tell if the information that you gave me is valid then it means you haven't fulfilled your end of the bargain. So you better pay me back in full.

iwami: You're pushing your luck, Haseyama. I already properly told you what I know.

You should probably be careful though, if that young lady is saying that she doesn't know anything about the black card… Then you shouldn't press her about it any further. You might just end up not even being able to recall what you can remember.

haseyama: I just don’t understand, that's the issue here. Lately my higher ups have been making a big fuss too. Despite having made me obtain this store and then left me to my own devices for five years. 

In the end, I did end up making it so that the nearby gangs don't lay a hand on the young lady.

iwami: Maintaining the balance around here was your duty. In order to put those who are after that woman into a deadlock.

haseyama: Yeah… I was doing a pretty good job of it until I got hospitalised too. While I was in the hospital my higher ups managed to hold things together with their support, so I owe them. 

So, Iwami? Why don't we make a deal now that we’ve known each other for six years?

iwami: A deal? Between you and me?

haseyama: For you to go as far as to make a bet with me there's obviously something that you're after as well.

iwami: …….

iwami: Nah, I’ll pass. I have to refuse. 

haseyama: Oh? And why's that?

iwami: Cause when you said something similar six years ago I learnt the hard way that you were dishonest.

haseyama: What's this? It wasn't a bad deal though, was it?

iwami: There's always positives and negatives. There may have been a few positive aspects, yeah. Either way, back then it allowed me to escape when I needed to. So I’m grateful for that.

But that's the only thing I’m grateful for.

sinju: A new Team P, huh?

lico: How come you're looking so dejected? It’s not like you. Could you get back to cleaning though? We kind of need to get it done.

sinju: Ah, my bad! I’ll get right to it!

lico: Woah, wait, why do you stink? What is that, poultice? Just how many did you apply for the smell to be that strong?

sinju: Ah hahah~ Yeah. I had a bit of muscle pain so, y’know.

lico: Ohh, I did hear that Rindou’s gone full drill sergeant, is that right? Sounds like times are tough for Team P too huh. Mizuki won't stop going on about how Rindou’s shown his shitty true colours. It's seriously annoying.

sinju: Mizuki’s always hated Rindou.

lico: Yeah, there's no helping it at this point, he's always felt that way. There's no way he'd suddenly start liking Rindou now. It's a lot easier to suddenly come to hate someone. And so? Do you hate Rindou now?

sinju: No way! I could never hate him. I just wasn't able to properly carry out the choreography. But I’m fine now, I’ve got it all memorised.

lico: Hmm? Well, you heard him, Rindou. You must be pleased to see your team member is trying his hardest to prepare for the show.

rindou: Yes, I’m happy to hear it. That's the basic etiquette that’s required to be able to take to the stage.

sinju: ……..

lico: Wow, you really have turned into a drill sergeant. How strange, you're acting exactly like Kei. Did he convert you or something?

You were all getting along so well during tanabata and your performance was really well received too. Even though it was decided without notice you looked after Hinata during your ‘Dawn’ performance too.

rindou: I was pleased with the good reviews of our ‘Crossing Stars to Return Home’ performance. And Hinata gave it his all in our revival performances of ‘Dawn Doesn't Wait’.

But— No, nevermind. 

I just had a thought on my mind. I figured that now is a good time to re-evaluate our shows, that's all. We need to face each other in order to make sure our stage does not come to an end. That's all there is to it.

sinju: That's, all there is to it…

lico: I don't really get it, but basically you're saying you're going to be changing how you perform your shows? If you're unsatisfied with how things are currently, then would changing up your team’s members be on the cards too?

rindou: I’m not opposed to the possibility.

sinju: Rindou?

lico: Hold up, are you seriously saying that?

rindou: Why are you surprised? If it's necessary, then I’ll do it.

If it's something that's necessary in order for us to perform in front of the guests, then I have no choice but to do it.

sinju: But this is the team that we all created years ago together. A lot has happened, but we all still got through it together, didn't we!? 

And yet, you're speaking so coldy… has our show just been nothing but a product all along…?

lico: Sinju…

sinju: ……. (frustrated)

rindou: —The store will be opening soon, you two. Let's finish up the cleaning.

-rindou leaves-

lico: Scary… What the hell is up with him? Can a person really change so much so quickly? He’s lost it.

sinju: Rindou hasn't lost it.

Fic Draft Requirements: At the draft deadline (July 9th), we will require a complete draft of at least 18,000 words. “Complete” means that the fic is written from start to finish with no indispensable scenes missing or left as outlines—think, “If I posted this right now, would I be happy with the story it tells?”

Ideally, you will refine and polish your draft in the remaining time, but it can also be your final draft if you prefer.

Drafts will be handed in via a form that will be sent out to you before the deadline. Drafts should be available in Google docs, or if need be in PDF format.

Summary Requirements: A form for the summary will be sent out to you before the deadline. Summaries should briefly outline the general premise, and include rating, ships, triggers and other warnings, and any other relevant details.

Eligible Fics:

Fics of any rating and with any warnings are permitted, as long as they meet the minimum word count (20,000), are centered around at least one Rusty Quill original podcast (The Magnus Archives, Rusty Quill Gaming, Stellar Firma, Inexplicables, Chapter & Multiverse, Trice Forgotten), and are tagged appropriately.

We encourage authors to take this opportunity to challenge themselves to take on a project that they might not otherwise—though please consider what is realistic in terms of the deadlines as well!

Fics must be stand-alone (requires no knowledge of previous fics to enjoy), complete (resolves all main plotlines within the story, as opposed to being part I of a trilogy, etc.), and previously unposted.

Crossovers are allowed, but the focus should be on the RQ podcast involved. For example: a fusion crossover with the Leverage Team replacing the LOLOMG in the RQG!verse would not be permitted, though the RQG characters in the Leverage!verse would be.

Please be aware that fics with obscure crossovers, common squicks, higher ratings, etc., may be more difficult to match, and thus take a little longer to get snapped up. We will do our best to find you a suitable match, though!

Matching Process:

The artist sign-up will include a list of the anonymised fic summaries. Each artist will select 3 fics which they would be interested in creating for, with additional preferences (favourite show/shows they do not follow, OTPs and NoTPs, Do Not Wants, etc.) indicated in the comment field. Mods will then match writers to artists, taking preferences into account as much as possible.

If fics are oversubscribed or if it is otherwise necessary for matching, they may be removed from the list of eligible fics before the end of artist sign-ups.

If you have an issue with your match, please let the mods know as soon as possible.

Do Not Wants:

In this event, you will have an opportunity to Do Not Want (DNW) the types of content that you do not wish to work on. Similarly, if you’ve had conflicts with certain people in the past and do not want to risk matching to them, you can include this in your sign-up or draft submission, and we will avoid matching you with them (details of these will not be shared beyond the mod team).

The mods will always account for DNWs within reason; however, attempts to manipulate matches via DNWs or otherwise acting in bad faith will result in the rejection of your sign-up or draft. We are happy to help participants with anything that arises, but cannot accept “telephone”-style communiques on behalf of others.

Be in regular contact with your match—if you’re going to be offline for a significant length of time, let them know. Radio silence from your match in events of this kind can be very concerning. (If you are having trouble getting in touch with your match, please contact us!)

Please take care to credit your artist/writer in your own final post.

Our Discord server has its own list of rules, which are listed within the server. If you decide to join the server, we require you to read and abide by those rules.

Be kind and courteous towards your match and fellow participants. This naturally means that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are prohibited, but even where those are not at play, you are expected to treat others with respect.

We, like Rusty Quill, have an “all headcanons are valid” policy. Harassment or mockery of those with different interpretations will not be tolerated. This does not mean you cannot discuss how you see the characters with others or that your artist/writer should not take it into account at their discretion, but insistence that any one interpretation must be adhered to is not allowed.

If you have concerns that a work or participant may be in violation of the rules, please bring it to the mods directly. Harassment of other participants (including but not limited to callout posts, name-calling, baiting, etc.), either publicly or in the Piles of Nonsense discord server, over their identities, fanworks, or headcanons will result in an instant default.

1,000 Words in a Weekend: A Challenge

I'm working on a couple new projects and need to write a bunch of words over the weekend. It's time for a challenge!

The goal is pretty simple. Write 1,000 words or more over the course of the weekend. You can work on anything you want — a blog, essay, fanfic, short story or chapter for your upcoming novel.

By committing to a goal and writing alongside other people, it's much more likely that you'll follow through. That's one of the main challenges of working solo on a project. When there's no boss or team, who will keep you accountable?

Evan was fourteen when Buck moved to Ohio and enrolled at the institute. With Buck having shown himself to be too strong-willed, she saw it was her duty to make sure that fatal flaw in a man didn't show up in her baby boy. She immediately increased handed over chores that had previously been the work of their slaves, and required him to need permission for anything other than going to school.

From fourteen to seventeen, Amelia slowly worked on Evan and indoctrinated him into her belief system that all men was inherently inferior, and naturally submissive. Seeing his father submit to Amelia, the two male slaves they owned, and that the only thing he was allowed to know about Buck was that he had received the submissive mark, as well as Evan's own natural submissive feelings, all combined to prove Amelia's beliefs to Evan.

The day he turned eighteen, Amelia introduced new rules for Evan to live by. Evan suddenly had rules that were a lot like the rules his father lived under.
