Bryan nodded, listening to Jace. "Soccer was fun! I did summer camp twice, I think?" he said slowly, not completely sure about it. But whenever it was, it was very fun. "Oh yeah! That makes sense. He's the athletic one of the bunch. I tried to be that cool, and probably wasn't," he chuckled. "I think we made finals a few times, and that was pretty fun, actually," he said, smiling at that memory. "Okay! Here I go!" he said, waiting for the right timing before tossing the ring.

Perfect Recall - The ability to recall an image from memory with high precision after seeing it only once and without a mnemonic device.

5 favorite ships katz and dogs - i feel like not enough people recognize how much Will clearly trusts Bev (he calls her when he finds Georgia, he asks her to look into Hannibal while he's in prison). she's the only person who seems to clock that he's Not Okay in s1 and who also tries to reach out to him on "neutral" territory (giving him shooting advice, engaging in morbid jokes, telling him to talk to her if things get to be too much). she doesn't infantilize him (Jack, Alana) or treat him as a curio (Hannibal). he's not a means to an end for her, he's a person. meanwhile Will doesn't treat her with the same rudeness he gives Zeller; again, he trusts her insights and reaches back to her. also can we all notice that he doesn't do the mirroring thing with her?? i feel like it's big when Will doesn't default to either of his masking personas (rude, aloof professor or empath who reflects you back to yourself).

will/molly - in part because i have huge affection for red dragon even as i acknowledge all the ways it's Bad. but i dislike when fandom acts like Will's entire marriage to Molly was a lie. or like Molly is either Too Badass for Will or Too Soft for him. she trusted him enough to make him part of her life, they stayed together for years, they adopted more dogs together. she speaks his language! meanwhile i think it's a rather...unfair assessment of Will to act like he's only using Molly as this clutch for normalcy. he KNOWS he's never going to be "normal," he could have closed himself off utterly after the entire Verger arc. but he found someone he could trust in Molly, which tells us a lot about her even if the show doesn't really explore her as a character. (i think their conversations in the book and the ways that Will "finds" pieces of her in the mundane aspects of his work are evidence of a loving relationship.)

abigail hobbs/freddie lounds - i haven't found, like, a fic that explores what i'd want out of this, but the gist is that Abigail gets treated as a child in a lot of ways, which i think is unfair to her. yes, she is barely a legal adult. yes, she is naive and sheltered. but also she has keen survival instincts and she recognizes the meta-level operations of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal, i.e. it's about the story that you're telling. Abigail as a ghost in the machine, Freddie as the "vessel" that gives her coherence and meaning both in relation to her dad and separate from Hannibal. they're using each other! it's toxic! but also Freddie is the only person who really treats Abigail as an adult. (plus you KNOW Abigail has some like, repressed queer feelings. she ate and honored ALL those girls she helped murder.)

will/hannibal - like. it's the arc of the show Fuller created. i have eyes.

...are there five ships i like in Hannibal? huh. i don't actually LIKE alana/margot in the Fullerverse, because it erases the butch masc aspect of book!Margot, which i think is so, so important in talking about Margot's queerness AND her abuse (she turns to bodybuilding as a means of defense, she ID's as butch and it's an intentional refusal of the girl her parents wanted her to be, as well as the "girl" she was). no one has sold me on bev/freddie yet, because Bev obviously hates Freddie and so much wlw content in the fandom tends to be "gentle soft femmes." idk. alana/will has potential but only if it's ALSO fucked up, because Will relies on Alana as a defense and Alana only ever sees Will as fundamentally broken.

things you look for in fics - hannigram it's been a second since i obsessively combed through the hannibal ao3 tag for fics. i can't do "soft" murder husbands content. i dislike fics where Hannibal gives Will positive language to define himself, because i think it's fundamentally ooc. Hannibal wants Will to be what Hannibal wants, which also happens to be a part of himself that Will actively represses (as opposed to accepting/working through/etc). their relationship is obsessive, it's manipulative, it has a body count.

unrelated to that but important to me: i have a low tolerance for uninterrogated misogyny in fics. both the Harris and the Fuller texts are full of sexist approaches to women, and it sometimes feels like the fandom (even years later, at a remove from when the show was premiering) dials that up to eleven without a second thought. so i'm hyper-critical of fics that position the women characters in the virgin/madonna/whore triad.

give me a character - beverly katz how i feel about this character: defensive, lmao. she's so interesting! the only woman in team sassy science AND she's a woman of color. non-whiteness is, uh, a super fraught position in the fullerverse, esp. hannibal. the fandom treated her like shit, Fuller arguably treated her like shit, justice for Bev Katz.

all the people i ship romantically with this character: will/bev has a soft spot in my heart. will/molly/bev is one more people should think about. bev/margot could've been so so good. bev/miriam??

my non-romantic otp for this character: i've seen team sassy science posed as a triad, but truly i do not see Bev having a romantic thing for either Zeller or Pierce, though i think she's fond of them as coworkers and friends.

my unpopular opinion about this character: she's the most nuanced female character, and her murder was both unnecessary on a narrative level and gross as a treatment of a nonwhite woman's body.

one thing i wish would have happened in canon: that she didn't get murdered as a deus ex machina! Bev is one of the main characters and she gets killed off-screen and then turned into a plot device as though she never mattered. when i die, i will find bryan fuller and haunt his ass!

Statement

The guiding question I seek to answer is “How do sad girl songs and the artists that compose them create a comforting outlet for teens?” or “How does sad girl music evoke a comforting sense of relatability for adolescents?”. My purpose is to discover if sad music has a positive impact on those who are struggling with their mental health; specifically for those who are in their teenage years, as it depicts scenarios, feelings, and emotions that may be relatable to them, making them feel as though they are not alone in the challenges they are facing. 

I hope to find, read, and synthesize scholarly sources and research reports as well as the ongoing world of social media and the media content that is created that validates the argument that sad girl songs comfort people, specifically teenagers and adolescents across the board going through difficult experiences and challenges, rather than sending them into a downward spiral of negativity and a darker, sadder mental state. Many argue listening to sad girl music makes you sadder and identifying with the sad girl aesthetic sustains depressive episodes, keeping you in a constant state of sadness, angst, and ultimately, depression. However, the goal of my project in this section of the course is to debunk this theory and prove that sad girl music is comforting, rather than overwhelmingly saddening. I hope my reader takes away that indulging in sad girl music is beneficial for their mental health, not detrimental. Listening to sad music will make them feel as though their feelings are heard, acknowledged, and validated and ultimately, will lead to being happier and feeling less sadness. 

Based on the Scholarly Articles I have discovered thus far in my research on this topic, I have found that in others’ scientific, group-based research it has been found that sad music evokes feelings of nostalgia and comfort that help to alleviate the sad feelings and emotions of listeners, especially for women. For instance, “Memorable Experiences with Sad Music — Reasons, Reactions, and Mechanisms of Three Types of Experiences by Eerola and Peltoa states “people link sadness with a wide range of emotions [6–8], including nostalgia, peacefulness, and tenderness” (page 1), “Women tend to favor statements relating to reminiscing (χ2 = 21.0, p<.001), as well as social and nurturing reasons such as comforting (χ2 = 22.8, p<.001), channeling (χ2 = 12.5, p<.001), to be closer to loved ones (χ2 = 10.4, p<.001), or to share emotions with others (χ2 = 12.6, p<.001).” (page 6) and "The first reason could be labeled as Reflection, the second factor as Belonging, and the third factor as Relaxation.” (page 6). These quotes make it evident that sad music does evoke positive results and emotions. 

This guiding question and the controversial debate motivate me to study it as it is one I feel as though I personally resonate with. I have always found, especially in my early teenage and adolescent years but additionally now in this present era of my life, where I am faced with college-related challenges, growing pains, moving hours and a state away from home, and juggling social and academic life while struggling with and taking care of mental and emotional health; comfortingly relatable. Sad girl songs that I truly enjoy in times when I am feeling down that comfort me and make me feel better and happier, rather than sadder and more depressed include All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)(Sad Girl Autumn Version) by Taylor Swift, Slipping Through my Fingers – From the Mamma Mia Soundtrack by Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried, Everytime by Britney Spears, I Remember Everything by Zach Bryan ft. Kacey Musgraves, Strawberry Wine by Noah Kahan, Northern Attitude by Noah Kahan, Orange Juice by Noah Kahan, IDK You Yet - Cover by Bertie Newman, To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra and Patrick Watson, Little Freak by Harry Styles, This is Me Trying by Taylor Swift, Falling Apart by Michael Schulte, Big Black Car by Gregory Alan Isakov, and Next to You by John Vincent III. As you can tell, the list could go on forever and I, personally, can attest to the comfort felt by sad girl songs in a time when you feel alone, like there is no one who relates to the struggles you are facing, and nothing but a song can pull you out of it.

Inaugural Mopar Event Excites from Start to Finish

With ambition and anticipation, Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio staged its Inaugural Ken Ganley Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram World of Mopar presented by Arrington Performance, Sept. 22-24, 2023 and by all accounts, it was an extraordinary event. Produced and presented by Summit Motorsports Park with Mopar enthusiasts in mind, it featured three days of racing, a Fun Field Car Show, swap meet, car corral, manufacturers’ midway, concert by Trainwreck Country Band and fireworks. “We couldn’t be happier with our Inaugural Ken Ganley Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram World of Mopar presented by Arrington Performance,” said Bill Bader Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park. “Our team spent several months organizing this event, and we all wanted it to be successful, and we are all very grateful that it was. We had a tremendous turnout, and we look forward to an even bigger event next year. The planning starts now.” On Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, the final round of eliminations in Indy Cylinder Head No Box saw Ron Hicks of Leo, Indiana, rip off a .001 reaction time and race to a 12.45 to defeat Cory Blackford of Toledo, Ohio, who stopped the clocks at 9.89. In Box, Randy Chestnut recorded a .007 on the tree and took the win with a 6.13 over Keith Meador, who went through the traps at 6.16. On Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, the final round of eliminations in Koffel’s Place Super Pro put the spotlight on Gene Nagy of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Cliff Motes of Logan, West Virginia. They inched into the beams before blasting off, and Nagy came out on top with a 4.70 to Motes’ 6.59. In CRT Transmissions Pro, Marcus King of Republic, Ohio and Mike Walwood of Parma, Ohio motored up to the starting line, and King secured the win with a 9.60 elapsed time to Walwood’s 9.85. AA Transmission Hemi Super Stock saw Bob Marshall of Columbus, Ohio and Ron Gallagher of Whitby, Ontario, turn on their red lights, and Marshall won as his light was a bit less red than Gallagher’s. In Mancini Racing Nostalgia Super Stock, Doug Wright of Waterford, Michigan and Mike DeChicco of Ostrander, Ohio put dial-ins on their classic cars before Wright wrapped up the win with a 9.43 to DeChicco’s 11.46. Dan Trainer of Orient, Ohio and Dan Brewer of West Milton, Ohio took the stage for the TTI Exhaust Sportsman final round of eliminations, and Trainer wrapped up the win when Brewer illuminated the red light, with a mere -.005, at the hit. On Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, the final round of eliminations in FireCore 50 Top Gun Full-Bodied saw Jeff Goebel of Stratford, Ontario, flat-foot the pedal on his Duster to a 4.39 for the win over Chris Wheatcraft of Jamestown, Ohio, who clocked a 4.84 in his Demon. In FireCore 50 Top Gun Open-Bodied, Bryan Keller cruised to a 3.70 to earn his trip to the Summit Motorsports Park Winner’s Circle over Keith McLennan, who was .004 at the hit but had to get out of the throttle. Collection of three 'Brand New' old Ducati’s with just 3 ‘Push’ Miles for sale at Silverstone Auctions with echoes of Carl Fogarty, Ayrton Senna & Borgo Panigale. Shuttleworth Motorcycle Sale July 30th.

1998 Ducati 916 Carl Foggarty Replica 996cc - £70,000 -£80,000 The next Silverstone Auctions motorcycle sale at Shuttleworth is without a shadow of a doubt what you might call an Italian job – Italy’s best bikes lead the pack, three Ducatis all with just three push miles. The three bikes are part of a private collection and have been stored in an air-conditioned facility for last few years. This number 001 Carl Foggarty replica, previously owned by Ducati, was on display in their Bologna museum, Number 001 of the 202 built, Carl Foggarty was given 002! Brand new, never used and unregistered it comes to auction with just three push miles, complete with its cover, book pack, standard exhausts, plaque, both keys and paddock stand as pictured. Also included are the original sponsors decals as they were only fitted to one side of the lower fairing when it was on display in the Ducati museum. Guided at £70,000- £80,000. Ducati is a marque that is much loved by celebrities and has been called the Ferrari of the bike world. Closely associated with racing and race success it is hardly surprising that the brand is so sought after by those who truly love motorbikes and raw speed.

1995 Ducati 916 Senna 1 916cc £40,000 - £50,000 The Senna-inspired 916 introduced after his death in 1994 with profits going to the Insituto Ayrton Senna charity. ” Of all the Senna-badged Ducatis, the first edition 916 Senna is the most collectable,” says Mark Bryan, Motorcycle Manager at Silverstone Auctions. This unregistered, unused bike is number 042 of only 300 made and showing just three 'push' miles. Complete with its original cover, paddock stand, both keys and book pack it is a great piece of Ducati and Senna collectable history, guided at £40,000 - £50,000.

2012 Ducati Panigale 1199S Tricolore 1199cc £15,000 - £20,000 Introduced in 2011 and, with 195bhp, the Ducati Panigale was the most powerful, twin-cylinder, production bike at the time, it was named after Borgo Panigale, a district of Bologna in Northern Italy. Produced up until 2015 and was replaced by the 1299. This example is brand new, unused and is showing just three 'push' miles. It comes complete with its original exhaust, both keys, rear seat, map chip, book pack, Panigale book, grab rail, tool kit and stand. Silverstone Auctions is now inviting entries for its next motorcycle auction at Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Bedfordshire, SG18 9EP on 30th July, with a viewing day on the 29th July.
