LEGAZPI CITY – At least 11,700 doses of CoronaVac vaccine are expected to arrive this week in Bicol as part of its initial allocation from the 600,000 doses that arrived on Sunday from China, the Bicol Region-Center for Health Development said.

Dr. Rita Ang-Bon, DOH-Bicol Covid-19 vaccine program coordinator, in an interview on Wednesday said the doses of the vaccine manufactured by Sinovac Biotech Ltd. would be allocated for government health workers of four hospitals in the region.

“There are at least 5,842 government health workers from the four hospitals allotted with the vaccines. The said hospitals serve as Covid-19 treatment and isolation centers in Bicol,” Ang-Bon said.

Based on DOH data, the priority hospitals for the vaccination rollout include the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH) in this city with 2,292 employees; Bicol Medical Center (BMC) in Naga City with 2,132 personnel; Bicol Region General Hospital and Geriatric Medical Center in Cabusao, Camarines Sur with 767 workers; and the Naga Imaging Center Cooperative Doctors Hospital with 651 employees.

Ang-Bon also noted that the excess vaccines would be given to other government hospitals in the region.

“We are just waiting for the advice from the central office as to what mode of transportation and the exact date of arrival. If it arrives this week, the rollout of the vaccination will start next week,” she added.

Ang-Bon also said upon the arrival of the vaccines, these would immediately be inventoried and stored at the DOH Vaccine Storage Facility here.

“As soon as the vaccines are delivered to the intended hospital, it would start the vaccination procedures,” she said.

The DOH-Bicol, according to Ang-Bon, is prepared for any possible reactions or side effects that will be experienced by those who will receive the vaccine.

“There are people who are afraid of needles that's why before they were vaccinated they are a little bit scared then after the vaccination they feel relieved that they body reacts, we called it immunization anxiety vaccination reaction,” she said.

Ang-Bon reminded those who are hesitant to receive the vaccines that “you must get the right information from the right sources, not from social media. The more we are fearful, the more we are exposed to the virus. Let us be a solution to the problem, the vaccine is our contribution to end the virus.”

Meanwhile, Noemi Bron, DOH-Bicol public affairs chief, said a recent survey conducted by the agency showed that at least 60 percent of government health workers in the region, including doctors, nurses, midwives, and pharmacists are willing to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

“From the 2,167 respondents, 60.8 percent are willing to be vaccinated, .6 percent don’t want to be vaccinated, 16.6 percent are not yet sure and 22 percent did not give their answers," Bron said. (PNA)

               I wake up early. The traffic is still there. 🚗 🚕 🚙 🚌 🚎 🚓 🚑 🚒 🚐 🚚 🚛 🚜 Yes, nothing is different. I’m late. At 8:42 I came here. And only sir Rene and sir Richard is here. Ryzsha did not get here. And Ma’am Shon go to BRTTH. She is also late.

              So, I’m the only OJT here in Records Section. Sir Rene asked me to please arranged the document what he was doing. I helped him. 

               I assisted also CAV applicants in whole day. In assisting, I learn on how to interact in applicants and different people getting here.

I go also in the Dorm of Dep Ed RO V to say Ma’m Ceny to answer the phone because Ma’am Suarres is calling and texting to her. LEGAZPI CITY – A policeman and three civilians were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels exploded along the national highway in Barangay Putiao, Pilar town in Sorsogon province on Monday.

Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Police Regional Office (PRO-5) spokesperson, said Police Corporal Jeffry Enconge Putian and the three other victims, who are yet to be identified, were rushed to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching and Hospital (BRTTH) for treatment.

The police said the rebels intended to ambush the Philippine National Police (PNP) truck loaded with 11 policemen from the 92nd Special Action Command bound for Camp Simeon Ola headquarters.

The police personnel were able to retaliate and engage the rebels in a brief firefight, prompting the communist terrorists to flee.

Clearing operations are still being conducted in the area as of this posting.

Brig. Gen. Bartolome Bustamante, PRO-5 regional director, in a statement, condemned the latest atrocity perpetrated by the communist terrorist group (CTG), whose true objective is to sow chaos and disorder in the community.

He called on the public to "resist CTGs and cooperate with authorities to help end the threat of insurgency in Bicol". (PNA)

LEGAZPI CITY – The chief executive here on Wednesday said he has directed the city building officials to file the necessary cases against the owners of a construction firm and the land where a hotel is about to be built over an accident that killed two workers on Tuesday afternoon.

The subjects could be facing civil and criminal charges for operating without a building permit and violating other provisions of the National Building Code, city Mayor Noel Rosal said in an interview.

He said he directed building officials to investigate the man-made landslide that occurred, where a steep mountain slope crashed during an excavation work in Barangay Pinaric here, killing two construction workers and wounding two others.

Rosal added that a cease and desist order has been issued for the construction work. “The investigation would determine the culpability of the construction firm El Acebuchi Builders (ELAB) in continuing civil works despite the absence of a permit," he said.

City Engineer Clemente Ibo, in a separate interview, said the construction firm and one Rodelio Antonio Sevilla, the alleged owner of the land, applied for a building permit in September for the construction of a four-storey hotel building located beside a 30-meter high mountain slope.

Ibo said the processing of the permit was put on hold after the construction firm and the owner failed twice to submit the required documents including the Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) since the evacuation work would affect a mountain slope.

Ibo said the non-compliance with the requirements under the National Building Code, the firm's refusal to heed their warning, and continuing for almost two months their construction work, prompted the office to serve a notice of violation.

Aside from the absence of a building permit, other violations of the construction firm include the failure to put up a “retaining wall" at the construction site.

A retaining wall is a structure designed to support and restrain soil from eroding in steep mountain slopes.

The two construction workers who died in the landslide were identified as Allan Madrona Andes and Rolin Bagacay, both employed by ELAB. They died while being rushed to the Legazpi City Hospital.

Injured were steelman Ariel Lola Marcelo, 40, of Pilar, Sorsogon, and Marvin Baldediano, also a steelman, of Barangay Taysan here. They were found to have sustained injuries when extracted from the debris and brought to the Bicol Regional Teaching and Training Hospital (BRTTH). (PNA)

1.11.11 <--- lucky day!

This was supposed to be a lucky day according to some Chinese Feng Shui experts. I really do not know about that. But the idea of a day having only a single number representing the month day and year just seemed soooo cool. Fun fact: This will by the way happen four times this year.

First, January 1, 2011 (1.1.11),

Second, January 11, 2011  (1.11.11) - this day

Third, November 1, 2011 (11.1.11)

Fourth -and last - November 11, 2011 (11.11.11) - supposedly the luckiest among these dates.

A significant event did happen to me on this "lucky" day. I signed a six-month contract @ Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital. Yes, I will finally have a job - more likely. For starters, i would not receive any compensation. In other words, I signed up as a volunteer nurse. But at least, i'd now have experience, right? There were scattered rainshowers throughout the day. Blessings maybe. I wouldn't know for sure. I hope it were, though. I'll now be spending the next six months working in hospital. I know it is easy and as the training officer said on the orientation, "the next six months will not be a bed of roses." Lucky or not, I am still thanking the Lord for this day and the days that follow.So, on that note, let me share a poem from my elementary days which seemed fitting for the current intimidating yet exciting situation:
