🚓- River Ward

• VIKT — They meet each other after Vikt's retired from mercenary work, which at least means not having Johnny there hounding about "working with a cop". Helping River find Randy comes as just another gig—albeit one of the most fucked up he's done. Dinner with the family afterward is entirely different. It's the first time Vikt has any real interaction with children, which goes much better than he expects.

"Hey, V?" "Yeah?" "Did you let us win?" "Nope. You two are just that good."

River is also one of the very few who can get Vikt to let loose a little bit; them getting wasted up on the water tower and laughing about dumbass constellations they think exist is some of the most fun Vikt has (aside from the next morning, anyway).

• SÖREN — So, these two go back a bit. Ever the trouble making misfit, Sören got snagged by the badges so many times... and sometimes, that badge was River—who would grow tired of being called to Heywood for "a red-eyed hoodlum". Though eventually, the calls stopped, and it would be a handful of years before they meet again.

"Wait... Nightowl?" "Y'never did like calling me by my actual name." "Ah. You're the same as ever, punk." "Ditto that, snoopy."

They hang out a lot together after that. Which neither really expect. After all, what could a lawbreaker and a lawman possibly have in common... right? But, they end up growing close, realizing their paths are strikingly similar... and here, they cross yet again. Eventually, Sören convinces River to leave with him and the Aldecaldos. Leave Night City behind, hunt for something better and brighter—so long as they do it together.

🎤- Kerry Eurodyne

• VIKT — The first Vikt hears and sees Kerry proper (not counting the memories of Johnny he relives during the brain wreck caused by being dead) is laid out on a fancy sofa with a throbbing migraine, an expensive blanket draped over him, and the bright blue eyes of a rockerboy looking down at him with worry.

"Hey, hey, you okay?" "... No..." "That's alright. Just stay tight for a bit. Rest. Don't worry about a thing." "I— Thank you..." "You're... you're welcome. Now, quit stalling. Sleep."

From there, the two are unknowingly latched at the hip. Vikt helps with Kerry's problems, and Kerry provides the privacy of the villa when Vikt needs time out of the city. It's inevitable that their bond blossoms into more. The night on the rooftop of Dark Matter seals the deal, and their excursion on the yacht tells them it is the right call.

• SÖREN — The most interaction Sören has had with Kerry is going to one of his shows with River. They splurged, got the VIP treatment and everything. Met the legend face-to-face���a dream Sören's had for years.

"Holy shit, are you the Kerry Eurodyne? Really?!" "One and only." "Here, I have a gift for ya!" "Fuck, is that... where did you find police-grade 'nades?" "A man never tells. Now, I'm gonna hug you. Okay? Okay."

Needless to say, River is more than unimpressed.

• VIKT — Throughout his grueling years in Arasaka, Vikt ran things solo; at least, until a particular task fell into his lap. Putting a hit on an entire cartel that threatened Arasaka's infrastructure. It was too big of a job for one man, so Vikt took a risk to hire the help of another: the Valentinos. Specifically, a small group led by Jackie.

And, of course, there had to be a hitch. It ended up being a trap. Vikt had to defend himself, murder one of the most prolific cartels of Mexico—and unfortunately, most of the Valentinos alongside him didn't take kindly to that.

All who were left standing in the end were Vikt... and Jackie.

"So? Going to make this quick?" "Nah. There's... been too much death." "What's one more, hm?" "Listen. I don't want this... and neither do you. Consider me... an amigo, and none of this shit will see the light of day." "And why would you offer that?" "Call me inocente if you want. Just... got a feelin' I want you by my side." "Might be a mistake." "Might be."

From then on, Jackie is Vikt's one and only trusted confidant, and he ended up being the pillar that keeps Vikt standing after his life crumbles down to nothing.

• SÖREN — Sören was adopted into the Valentinos as a toddler, rescued from the gutters by Padre. He immediately latched onto Jackie as an older brother figure, and they were an inseparable duo of chaos. Jobs for the gang were a joint effort... except when Jackie was hired to help with the heist of a lifetime.

"Búho?" "What?" "I know you're upset, but... I need to know you'll be here when I get back." "I... I always will be, Jack. I ain't going anywhere. You're my family." "I love ya, hermano." "Don't say that like you won't return, you fuck..." "Oh, come on, don't—" "I love you, too."

It goes without saying that Sören is devastated seeing Jackie's body in the Delamain car. Like his heart has been ripped from his chest. And all he can still think about when he thinks of the man he calls his brother is that fateful day.

Burnt man very hot.

But I also always have a weak spot for that douchebag, don’t give a fuck attitude.

I think a combination of the two is what kinda intrigued me about him - mainly his attitude, just the way he seems so damn nonchalant at first, casual and silent and brooding and then he flips the switch and he’s laughing maniacally and burning everything in sight. He’s interesting, man.

At the same time, we knew nothing about him. We had theories about him being Touya but we didn’t really know anything about the guy, and so we had/have a lot of room for headcanons and creativity, we can do whatever the fuck we want with the details that we don’t know yet.

least favorite thing about them

I have this problem where if I love a character even their (objectively) bad qualities will be either endearing or interesting to me.

You could say that his entire revenge plot was cruel towards his family but all I can think about is how that little detail - the fact that he doesn’t give a fuck about anyone anymore, not Natsuo or Shouto or Fuyumi - makes him interesting.

Basically, everything that I should hate about him only makes me more intrigued, I’m the same when it comes to Bakugou - there’s a reason those two are my favourite.

Tbh, I don’t see that many ships with him? If it’s a controversial ship then it’s normally just smut content that I see of it and other than that the only major ships I see with him are Dabihawks, Shigadabi and occassionally I’ll see him and Giran. 

But maybe Shigadabi? I don’t know, I kind of hc Shigaraki as completely uninterested in romance or sex (basically aro/ace) while Dabi is hypersexual in my mind, so it’s difficult for me to imagine them together.

He’s a good singer. He used to sing Shouto to sleep whenever training got too hard and he’d do it for his other siblings too - mainly Natsuo, though. Once he leaves home, though, he stops singing and doesn’t dare do it again.

okay so this is a bit of an inside joke guys but bear with me

How do I feel about this character?

So normally I don’t really think all that much about Koga.  He’s pretty cool in Pokemon Special, in the games he’s okay but his gym in Gen 1 is really obnoxious with the invisible walls (even if you do know the trick to navigating it’s still a pain -- not as bad as Sabrina, but still).

But in Project: Elements?  I love him. He’s smart and methodical and dedicated to both his duty and his family, which is why he agrees to help InterPol out in the aftermath of the Team Rocket incident in Kanto.  Despite his stoic exterior he has a sense of humor, too, and the way he both can and will run circles around Lance is an endless delight for me.  And for all that he is so determined to put things right, he also has a moral code that’s capable of recognizing the grey areas, rather than categorizing everything as black and white with no in-between.  He’s generally a pretty good guy who’s doing his best to live up to his personal code of ethics and honor, which gets really weird because of this situation he somehow found himself in the middle of.

I have no idea honestly because he does canonically have a daughter, but I’m pretty sure we never meet his wife at any point?  Given that he clearly either has or had one, I have a hard time speculating on his romantic prospects.

Haha it’s Lance

almost entirely because of the weird pseudo-enmity thing they have going on where Koga is constantly one-upping the Champion (Lance is the one that calls him the Creepy Ninja Bastard, as you might have guessed).  When push comes to shove, though, Koga will pull out all the stops to help Lance out regardless of any trouble they might have had previously, and while they’re never going to be the best of friends, I really enjoy the relationship they end up with.

Also I really like the idea of him being a caring father and not only training Janine in the ninja arts he uses, but making time to come home and help her out and encourage her when she takes over the gym following his induction into the Pokemon League’s Elite Four.  

What’s my Unpopular Opinion™ about this character?

Okay so I’ll be honest, I don’t do a lot with the Pokemon fandom generally so I don’t know what kind of popular opinions there are, let alone unpopular ones.  In general I just don’t think that he gets enough of a chance to shine: he has fewer appearances than most of the major NPCs from that generation, and while there are really cool things hinted about him, we never get to see a lot of it put into practice.  I kind of wish that his role as a teacher or his skills compounding medicine got more attention rather than focusing on the whole ninja aspect, since those are both really cool things that say a lot about him as a person.

What’s one thing I wish would have happened with this character in canon?

Are we talking canon canon like the Pokemon franchise?  Because frankly I think that most of the games could benefit from additional fleshing out.  It’s nice that in HG/SS you can battle gym leaders in other locations or interact with them outside the gym on certain days of the week, but that doesn’t apply to the Elite Four, so the game really doesn’t give him a lot of chances to become a real character.  It would have been really cool if you could see him and Janine doing things together on the days when she’s not at the gym, or even have a chance to run into him at the Safari Zone since people there in FR/LG talk about how he patrols it for the safety of the pokemon.

disclaimer this is pretty heavily based in my own snackrifice fic so i know it’s not gonna be for everyone but here we go. come with me on this journey.

polkadot patterson has just been trapped in a peanut shell, and they are completely isolated. they are going to be completely isolated until the blaseball gods smile on them and let birds rescue them. this might take two months. it might take three years. they have no way of knowing. all they know is they are trapped and they are alone.

until one day they hear a voice. they didn’t really know the tacos pitchers before the snackrifice, but they can tell from context that it’s wyatt pothos. and she’s talking about them. she’s talking about how much she admires them and how impressed she is by them. not with any expectation of sucking up or brownnosing or whatever. just because that’s what she thinks.

now polkadot is connected to the other shells, so they talk, of course. there’s a limited number of people to talk to, of course they talk to each other. it turns out that wyatt pothos is cuttingly funny. she’s a fan of dot’s, sure, but she’s not moony over them or anything; she treats them like she treats any other player.

they get into arguments, about things that matter and things that don’t, and they learn that she will go to war for the people she loves, that she cries at historical movies a lot, that she knows exactly the right questions to get polkadot to open up. polkadot likes her. polkadot likes her a lot.

and then polkadot gets eaten.

except that’s not exactly right. they survive, come back mostly the same (if a little squiddish) and they’re outside of the shell but everyone is still in there. pothos is still in there. polkadot is going to get her out and she is going to be okay -- at least, that’s what they think until day x. until the shelled one’s pods. until the first time polkadot sees wyatt pothos after falling in love with her is when she steps onto the field with white hair and red eyes.

i’m gonna stop here because i genuinely do intend to write this one day but i think that at its best pothodot is a combination of 1) “falling in love at the end of the world” which is kind of my vibe lately 2) two people who care very deeply about everything learning to care very deeply about one another 3) lots and lots of hurt/comfort (dot feels guilty for getting out before the pods, pothos feels guilty for being in the pods in the first place), and 4) a happy ending. a real, actual happy ending that starts with polkadot patterson getting a call that wyatt pothos is on the jazz hands now.

 “Fine. I think he’s smoking hot, and I would love to sit on those thighs, even if only to platonically perch there, but he doesn’t like me,” Tony mourns. “He is like wayyy out of my league.”

 Rhodey opens his mouth but Tony cuts him off, “Uh-uh-uh! I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I’d rather not dwell on it. Please, let’s go find the spiderkid and the barrel of trouble.”

 Shaking his head, Rhodey glances back over his shoulder at Barnes, who is still staring, but he follows Tony out of the room. Pining idiots.

Rhodes is going to kill me. Bucky thinks as the colonel sends one last glare over his shoulder. He groans and drops his head into his hands.

 “Hey, what’s wrong,” Steve plops down in the chair beside him.

 “Why am I here? I clearly scare Tony or at the very least make him uncomfortable,” Bucky stops when Steve coughs. It sounds something like “yeah-in-his-pants” and Bucky tilts his head, “Excuse me?”

 “I had something stuck in my throat,” Steve lies. “But honestly, Tony doesn’t mind you here. If he did, you wouldn’t be here.”

 “Why does Rhodes keep glaring at me then?”

 Steve sighs, “I don’t know, Bucky, but you’ll be ok. I think you’re just insecure because you have a hopeless crush on Tony.”

 “I don’t know how everyone doesn’t. He’s awesome. He’s so smart and kind and easy to talk to, and that ass is delicious.” Bucky sighs dreamily.

 “Why don’t you tell him that?”

 “He’s the epitome of perfection, and I’m an amnesiac assassin. You do see how that will never work out, right?” Sometimes Bucky thinks Steve lives with rose-tinted glasses.

 “And if he -hypothetically- confesses his undying love to you?” Steve queries. “Would you tell him that he’s wrong for loving you?”

 Bucky snorts, “I’m not an idiot, Steve. I would spend the rest of my life trying my best to make sure he doesn’t regret loving me. But as that will never happen, I don’t need any false hope.” He gets up and leaves, heading to the gym to take his stress out on a few punching bags.

“We need to do something about those two,” Rhodey groans.

 Sam agrees, “I know, but how? We’ve tried almost everything we could.”

 “I have a brilliant idea,” Wade speaks up. “We should have a betting pool on when they will get together. It always works in these situations.”

 “How did you even get in here?” Bruce asks. “You know what? I don’t want to know. I have so many questions about you, Wade, but I’m afraid of the answers I’d get. But I am in for the betting pool. I’ve got fifty bucks on Tony making the first move before the year is over, but not until after October 14th.”

 “Oddly specific, but I’ll take it. Fifty bucks says Tony before October 14th, but after July 31st.” Clint puts in his prediction.

 One by one, the Avengers each place their bets. “So, what are the rules?” Rhodey asks.

 “Normal betting-on-friends’ rules,” Wade tells him, as if he should know them. When Rhodey looks at him confusedly, he groans. “Ugh, how do you guys not know these things? Ok – no tampering, no dropping hints – we have to let them figure it out themselves.”

 Harley cackles, “I am going to be rich. They will never figure it out themselves.” The bet is on.

Rhodey is getting tired of hearing Tony wax poetic about Bucky’s thighs or his eyes or anything else. He wants to tell Tony to just tell Bucky. He doesn’t even care if he doesn’t win the bet. Anything would be better than listening to Tony right now.

 “Why is he so beautiful and out of reach, Rhodey?” The genius whines. “And he’s like just my type.”

 “If he’s your type, how do you know you’re not his?” Rhodey groans.

“Come on, Sour Patch, he’s had more than enough trauma in his life. He doesn’t need to be in a relationship with me.” Tony argues.

 Steve walks in, and Tony spins to greet him, “Hey Cap!” Rhodey makes a ‘kill-me’ motion behind Tony’s back, and Steve laughs.

 “Hey Tony, have you seen Bucky around?”

 “Why do you think I would have seen him?” Tony questions, voice a tad loud.

 Steve raises his hands, “I… was just asking.”

 “You could ask FRIDAY,” Tony says petulantly.

 “Right. I’ll… do that. Thanks, Tone.”

 Tony turns back around when Steve leaves. Rhodey knows he has a shit-eating grin on his face. “Wow. You got defensive, didn’t you?” He asks.

 “Shut up, Platypus. Steve is already disappointed in me. I don’t need him to hate me because I’m hopelessly in love with his best friend.”

 A glass shatters in the doorway. Rhodey looks up to see Bucky standing there, a shattered plate on the floor. Tony gulps. “Oh. Bucky.” He jumps up and runs from the room.

 Bucky looks down at the floor, then to Rhodey. “He… was lying, right? He can’t like me. He’s too good.”

 A voice that sounds like Wade’s says No tampering, but shut up Wade. I have the fate of my best friend in my hands. I’m not screwing this up. Rhodey sighs, “Listen man, you need to talk to Tony about this. If he doesn’t let you in now, give him a day or so. You know how to sneak in anywhere.” He steps over the shards, pats Bucky on the shoulder, and walks out of the room.

“Tony?” Bucky finds Tony sitting with his head in his hands on the couch in his workshop.

 “I’m sorry, Bucky. You never were supposed to know. I can move back to Malibu. Whatever it takes to help you feel better around here. You don’t need me fucking up your life.”

 “So you mean it? You love me?” Bucky questions, daring to hope.

 Tony refuses to look at him, but after a few minutes’ consideration, replies, “Yes, and I am so, so sorry.”

“Don’t be. I am completely and irrevocably in love with you as well. I just didn’t want you to know because you are perfection, and I am… decidedly not.” Bucky sits down beside him.

 Tony glances over at him now, “You – you are? And I am not perfection. I’m the most fucked-up one here. I’m a monster.”

Generally can’t listen to anything with lyrics as it just distracts me. If I have it turned down low so it’s more like background noise it’s okay, but I prefer putting on a score (MoS is my go-to) or sometimes just nothing at all.

Stepping away from DC for a moment, but Harry and Ron. I love them. I love them so much. They’re the best Best Friends ever.

🤷 What thing that your fandom loves do you just not “get”?

Prepare yourselves for some long ass thoughts on Barbara and why I don’t like her and why I don’t get why other people do.

I don’t get the Gotham fandom’s love for Barbara. And this is on two levels. Firstly, she’s a bad person, that somehow, to me at least, stands out in a sea of bad people. Because there are others on the show who are murderous and cruel and selfish and petty, but Barbara has always felt worse to me, I think because so much of her behaviour is toxic and abusive in a very real way, a way that I recognise. Barbara treats the people around her badly, consistently, and is straight up abusive to every one of her romantic partners. She treats Tabitha like shit again and again, abusive in both physical and emotional ways, and she’s manipulative with Renee, employing classic abuser tactics to turn Renee’s desire to stay healthy into an attack on her to create guilt, deflecting blame off her for that and other parts of their relationship. It’s the worst with Jim though. Throughout their relationship in S1 she abused his trust, ignored his boundaries, was manipulative, controlling and jealous, tried to gaslight him on more than one occasion and then either A. cheated on him, or B. left him to immediately hook up with an ex who was as knee deep in the stuff Barbara said she was afraid of as Jim, and then got mad that Jim wasn’t sitting around waiting for her when she finally came back months later, having run out of other options (and either way, she left Jim via letter, which is just a crappy thing to do). And then following her breakdown her behaviour escalates to murder attempts, physical assaults, repeated sexual harassment, and on at least two occasions, outright sexual assault.

And she is never, ever held to account for any of it, by the narrative, by the fandom, or by the other characters. When anyone tries she turns it back on them, or the one questioning her is made out to be the bad guy, and she doesn’t ever apologise or make amends or work for any kind of redemption, which would be fine if she stayed a villain, unrepentant to the end, but that’s not what happened. Which is why I will never be happy with her being the mother of Barbara Gordon. Aside from the fact that I wouldn’t want her anywhere near a child, nor do I think the character we saw for 5 seasons would want to raise a child, or be able to (remember how she told a 12 year old she should start using her looks as a weapon to manipulate people? And that time she actually did take her 10 year old daughter out of the house/away from whoever was taking care of her to drag her across town to an empty club in the middle of the night while there were criminals loose to get a gun?), she was Jim’s abuser, for years, so for her to be the mother of his child, the mother of Barbara Fucking Gordon, leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Even when she was pregnant she spent half the time using it to punish Jim for not wanting her back. Everything about it was so spiteful and I hate it and it was a bad choice all around and they shouldn’t have done it.

And I have my suspicions as to why she gets away with all of it, why the fandom, and even the writers I think, don’t see her behaviour as anything particularly bad. There’s almost a wider issue of letting the female characters off easy for particular kinds of behaviour that male characters would, do, and rightly should get called on, stemming really from the idea that it’s fine if it happens to men. Lee can slap her partner and ignore his explicitly stated personal boundaries, he’s a man, that’s fine. Selina can lie and deliberately hurt her partner again and again, that’s fine. Female characters can beat and abuse and assault male characters, romantic partners even, and it’s no big. Barbara can spend years sexually harassing someone and there’s nothing wrong with that, because it’s happening to men, it’s fine, gurl power, etc etc.

It’s a general “problem”, I guess, that’s beyond Barbara, but for me her treatment by the fandom is the worst. I just don’t really understand why she’s so beloved, because most of the fandom seems intent on pretending she doesn’t do 99% of the terrible stuff she does, which is insane to me - love a villain for the things they do, love them because they’re villainous. It’s fiction, it doesn’t mean you approve or whatever, but the bad things they do are a part of them. If you can’t handle that, if you have to change everything about them, then you’re not really loving the character at all, you’re making up a whole new one. I mean this even extends to her relationship with Tabitha - Barbara treats her horribly, and Tabitha spends half her time seeing someone else, but the fandom holds them up as their perfect, healthy, appropriate representation lesbian queens (also erasing their bisexuality in the process). Again, if you have to erase or ignore almost everything about the characters and their relationship and their history and their personalities in order to ship or stan them, then you’re basically just making up new ones. More than anything, I just don’t understand that.

Which brings me to my other point, because the second reason I can’t stand her is the writing. Erin is a great actress, does the best with what she’s given, but Barbara is just so badly written. So, so bad. And it’s not that the writers can’t write well, even with stumbles and bad choices, the majority of the show’s characters, male or female, are written well, particularly the villains, but for whatever reason they just didn’t with Barbara. She has no consistent personality or goals. She’s twenty different kinds of crazy, which one which time just depends on the episode. Her personality and mental state and wants change multiple times each season. Who is she? 

And it’s frustrating and infuriating watching a character be so inconsistent and aimless, especially when it interferes with other story arcs, which is what happened time and time again with Barbara. It’s pretty obvious that the writers had no idea what to do with her after season 1. There was a decent enough arc following her breakdown, where you could track what she was after - Jim, her love and hate and obsession twisted up so that she wants to hurt and kill him as much as she still wants him, but after the coma, she just loses focus, and it never really comes back. She floats between the other villains with very little point, like the writers couldn’t come up with a story for her, so they just stuck her in scenes. Her personality jumps all over the place too. Like, is she crazy, is she faking, is she a little crazy and faking the rest? Who is she with? Who is she working for? What does she actually want? Who is she?

And when they do manage to write something more substantial for her, it rarely makes much sense. Barbara suddenly wants to be head of the underworld? Okay then, came a little out of nowhere, but okay I guess. Then she’s an arms dealer???? Then she’s Sofia’s lackey????? Then she’s the god damn head of the League of Assassins??????????. This last one being the worst for me. Barbara’s involvement in the League arc was 100% unnecessary and in fact made the whole thing more confusing and nonsensical and is the most egregious example of the writers just sticking her in somewhere because they didn’t know what to do with her. Ra’s was only interested in Bruce to begin with, so why bring her back at all? Why give her the power when he and others explicitly name Bruce as his heir? Why would the League follow her, a criminal, and not Ra’s’ actual heir, or idk, one of his daughters who are already involved? Why would they keep following her once it became clear she had no intention of fulfilling the League’s mission? Why did she look like that chick in the painting? Why was Ra’s into her, given that literally everything about her is antithetical to everything he stands for? Why any of it?

And then there was her incredible writing in season 5. The whole pregnancy thing was badly done and pretty much the worst way to bring Barbara Gordon in, but besides that, the writers once again had no idea how to write her so they pretty much spent the first half of the season turning her into Oswald.

So yeah, that’s why I don’t like Barbara as a character, and why I don’t understand why so many people love her now.

What do you think about Hawks / Fuyumi ? Would they really fit together?

You know, I debated about making a post like this at some point, so now’s really as good a time as ever… Let’s get a few things out of the way:

People ship what they want. They don’t need a rhyme or reason and aren’t wrong for shipping what they want as long as they don’t leave their own camp to go harass someone else. Supporting other ships and people enjoying their ships is always cool, though!

I can give my opinions of what I ship and why, but I don’t actually have any delusion that my opinion will majorly sway any one individual and definitely not any shipping camp. See point #1.

This will be less about what I personally ship and is more of a speculative post based on characterization we’ve seen in the series so far as what MAY BECOME CANON. For fairness’ sake, I’ll be including Endeaver, Dabi, and Miruko (as some of the most popular shipping options with Hawks and to also get them out of the way preemptively) and weighing SOME of the pros and cons as well as rating the ship on the plausibility meter from 1-5. (1 being least likely and 5 being most.) This, however, means nothing in the end and is just an exercise in speculation. See point #1.

I will not be throwing this out into the larger character and ship tags because even though it isn’t my intention to start a ship war that will not stop people who don’t like how I dunk on their ship or don’t dunk on another. This is just my opinion in the end, after all. If this gets shared far and wide so be it, but ultimately: see point #1.

Hawks x Fuyumi:

Pros: 

Close in age 

Both focused on helping people.

Both insinuated to be looking for a normal, loving family experience after a rough childhood.

Haven’t met in the series at the time of writing

While definitely not unheard of (See: David Tenant), dating and eventually marrying the daughter of your role model invites some additional drama and strain not usually incorporated into a relationship

Additional comments: There’s potential for some sweet interactions in this ship, but there’s really no indication in canon to base this ship on, nor is there any significant addition to the plot their relationship would have. It doesn’t always have to be the case, but usually authors strategically pair up characters to introduce new interpersonal dynamics or further the plot through character development. (Assuming it’s not just pairing characters together for the sake of pairing them.)

Hawks X Miruko:

Pros:

Interesting couple dynamic

Hero power couple

Already seem to be on friendly terms with each other.

Cons:

Little canon interaction

No indication the relationship is more than friendly

Despite being popular, there’s more character showcase of Fuyumi than Miruko so far

Additional comments: Most of the same problems Hawks x Fuyumi runs into. Personal opinion, I prefer the two as a BrOTP.

Hawks X Endeavor: (Oh boy, here we go…)

Pros:

Established interpersonal connection

Insinuated they’ll continue to have interactions meant to be deeply personal and moving in nature

Hawks’ deep-seated - even if misguided - urge to do good combined with Endeavor’s newfound understanding and respect for the role of “#1 Hero” has a lot of real potential for deep character development.

Cons:

Major age difference - Endeavor is literally old enough to be Hawk’s father

Major power imbalance - Hawks has looked up to him since childhood as a role model and idol

Endeavor’s abuse history has yet to be revealed and combined with Hawks’ insinuated rough childhood and clear disillusion with the hero system it will not bode well for their relationship when it comes to light

Additional comments: Based on Endeavor’s role in Hawk’s life so far, assuming that it even survives the reveal of his family’s abuse, Endeavor is canonically a much more familial figure - a father figure and role model. 

Side note - my opinion: This ship usually doesn’t bother me, but it does kind of get under my skin on occasion. While I can only speak for myself, if I held someone in that regard and then turn around just to be told I want to boink them I would be downright pissed. Not only is that disregarding my feelings about the role that person had in shaping my life but it also reduces the relationship we shared into mere sex for someone else’s gratification. (I hold this opinion for other parental role/child role;teacher/mentor ships, too.) I think most people come to similar conclusions and realize that some relationships need to just stay platonic. I believe that’s what Horikoshi holds for these two in canon.

Hawks X Dabi: (Oh boy, the other one…)

Pros:

The fanfiction is literally just BEGGING to be written for these two. Enemies to lovers, plain old alternate timelines, the possibilities are endless.

Horikoshi has been about as subtle about the parallels between these two as much as the fact that Dabi is Touya Todoroki

There’s a significant chance that these two characters have been so tightly tied together in narrative that their fates may literally hinge on the actions the other takes.

Even their color schemes are complimentary!

Cons:

They effing hate each other

No really, that’s a much bigger hurdle to overcome than most people seem to realize.

On a fundamental level Hawks HATES Dabi for being callous and dismissive of the lives he throws away, and I don’t think finding out about Endeavor’s abuse will tip the scales too far in his favor based on what we know of his character.

Additional comments: As it stands in canon Dabi is the most likely character to end up canonically shipped with Hawks, but even that’s majorly unlikely as things currently stand between them. Hawks hasn’t been able to get anywhere NEAR the League - the latter not even realizing that Hawks is trying to get in - and all that internal struggle I brought up that Hawks is going through? That’s because of DABI. That’s literally ALL Dabi’s fault. Hawks currently sees him as a lying, murdering manipulator and terrorist who only cares about watching the world burn and he needs to be stopped at all costs. The only reason Dabi gets an extra point from the others is pure speculation as far as where the manga is almost DEFINITELY going (at least as far as Hawks joining the League and Endeavor’s exposure - putting Dabi in a more sympathetic light), but that’s it.

Side note - my opinion: Please, I GET IT. These two are ridiculously shippable, but I have a hard time getting past that glaring problem in canon to do so. I can easily see it in a true AU, but canonically I just don’t see it happening. Hawks as a character would have to change SO DRAMATICALLY for the ship to happen - assuming Dabi remains a villain until the end - or Dabi would, and I see stooping to that to see the two wind up together is a major disservice to the individual characters as well as the author who clearly has something to say with these characters that’s much bigger and more culturally critical in nature than just “and then they kissed!” That isn’t to say they can’t ever happen. I don’t know where the story is going, but I’m making an educated guess based off of the evidence I currently have.

And with that done, you may be wondering, “But if you don’t ship him with any of those, who do you ship him with?” To that I answer:

Myself. I’m only 5% serious, guys, chill.

I thoroughly believe you do not need to ship a character with anyone to enjoy them, and it’s kind of heartbreaking to see such a suffocating ship culture in fandom now. I don’t think anon meant to be so when they asked this question, by any stretch of the imagination, but I did want to just get this all out in the open before I got asked my opinion on the others because I’ve seen it coming for a while now, and answering their question would have invited this discussion in the first place.

But always remember that regardless of who ships what that it’s no cause to harass anyone else. Enjoy your separate corners of fandom and get excited about the things you share. If it’s just too much for you to personally deal with, blacklist and avoid that content. In the end it makes a much more safe and inclusive space to enjoy for everyone!

because I'm thinking about my boy today: Celegorm

1: sexuality headcanon - biiiii (by far the most straightforward of my orientation-type imaginings for the House of Fëanor…)

2: otp - I don’t have one, but there are lots of ships involving him that I can get into - Celegorm/Aredhel as a sort of experimentation thing in their youth, though I don’t personally see it as “true love”; Celegorm/Oromë can be fun in that I’m into god/mortal (well, not “mortal” in this case but you know what I mean) ships or mentor ships, though it’s not necessarily my actual headcanon; possibly some sketchy variation of Celegorm/Orodreth or Celegorm/Finrod (or more like, Celegorm getting Overly Friendly with Finrod when he wants to make both Finrod and Curufin very uncomfortable); most consistently, Celegorm/Curufin, but I only see it becoming sexual once they’re at Himring and their relationship has become suuuuper unhealthy and all the cracks are showing :))

3: brotp - well, Curufin, obviously - I have a lot of feelings about how their personalities contrast and complement each other, such that they function so well together (personally and politically) when they’re in sync, and how they can let their personal vulnerabilities show with each other in a way they can’t with other people, because each knows the other will pick up the slack for them. And how their knowledge of each others’ unspoken insecurities and flaws gives them so much power to hurt each other, by the end. Aredhel as well - I don’t have as many headcanons about their relationship, but I like the idea of them bonding in Valinor over their sometime-alienation from their immediate families (we’re told Celegorm goes to learn from Oromë instead of visiting the halls of Aulë with the rest of his family; Aredhel I can see disliking being the only girl, and sometimes feeling left out when her brothers spend time with the sons of Finarfin. I don’t think this is a major source of angst for either of them, but it is a sort of common ground that their friendship is built on). I also really like the idea of Celegorm teaching Amrod and Amras to hunt when they were younger. In general I think he was deeply fond of all his younger siblings, and really wanted them to look up to him. 

4: notp - That’s difficult, given that I’m pretty versatile with who I can ship him with - I guess canon Celegorm/Lúthien, though I wouldn’t be opposed to it in some sort of AU setting (which I think you’ve done?) 

5: first headcanon that pops into my head - While Celegorm’s interests were mainly turned towards the natural world, and he wasn’t as emotionally invested in material culture as was common among the Noldor, he was very fond of textiles, and when at the market enjoyed running his hands over them, testing their durability, etc. (He was a very tactile person in general.) Fëanor hoped this would lead to a study of his grandmother’s craft, but Celegorm’s interests were turned towards practical uses rather than visual art (and he wasn’t much of a creator), to his father’s disappointment.

6: favorite line from this character - “Then Celegorm arose amid the throng, and drawing his sword he cried: ‘Be he friend or foe, whether demon of Morgoth, or Elf, or child of Men, or any other living thing in Arda, neither law, nor love, nor league of hell, nor might of the Valar, nor any power of wizardry, shall defend him from the uprsuing hate of Fëanor’s sons, if he take or find a Silmaril and keep it. For the Silmarils we alone claim, until the world ends.’” - I just had to include the bit about him drawing his sword XD - but the way his speech here is then compared to Fëanor’s speech in Tirion after the Darkening is so interesting to me, the way he inherited his father’s charisma/ability to stir a crowd, and the way his political/rhetorical methods are similar to Fëanor’s in that they both involve being super direct and soapbox-y (in contrast to the more subtle manipulations that Curufin favours). And it’s just a fantastic moment.

7: one way in which I relate to this character - I relate to his restlessness and craving for movement/the outdoors, especially as a remedy for getting stuck in a mental rut. 

8: thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character - Everything. Everything about him gives me secondhand embarrassment.

BIOGRAPHY ::

you’re more alike to your birthmother than you will ever know, you have her smile, her walk. that’s what bruce would tell you if you were to ever ask him. you don’t. you feel enough of her ghost on your shoulders without having more information about her. you know a name that is all you want from the woman who left you first.

you are left on the steps to wayne manor. sometimes when you’re sad you like to picture what alfred’s face looked like when he found you out there in january cold. you stay with there for two months. there are photos of you with your siblings. dick kept one for years it would seem. still even here where you’re supposed to be safe, you only last for so long before you’re sent away again.

mr and mrs robbins gave you the best childhood that they could, and for awhile the pain of your origins are tucked away neatly in a draw that you don’t open very much. instead you excel at your education, throwing yourself into dance lessons enjoying the moments you could snag with your parents (they were busy people, you learnt very quickly not to hold it against them).

still things become harder as you get older, you’re the odd one out at that fancy school  you attend. thought you’re not sure how they first found out. here is the first appearance of the fighter inside of you. it will be harder for you to ignore things now. your parents are called several times because you had lashed out at the people who had refused to leave you alone. you are told that were it not for your parents standing in the school community you would have likely been expelled. you are still incredibly proud of that black eye.

you take up martial arts as a compromise, with the understanding that you will behave in a manner more befitting your station in public. the fighting doesn’t really stop you just learn to mask your behaviour. a real sign that you are your fathers daughter.

at sixteen you’re sneaking into clubs making a name for yourself in the new york club scene. you only learn later that photos of you drunk and throwing up into a gutter are only going to undermine you later.

your parents passing in a mutant rights demonstration changes everything, throwing you into a world you’re not ready for. people want you to be an adult, but your nothing more than a child in your mother’s shoes. trying so hard but failing so fast. you easily see the bad sad of humanity, despite the fact that you come out relatively unscathed. it changes you, your angry and most importantly lonely. feelings that really wouldn’t go away.

the loneliness of being alone opens up things you had tidied away years ago. who were your birth parents? why did they give you up ? stupidly it would seem in hindsight you were trying to fill the space left by your parents with people you didn’t even know.

when the name on the test reads bruce wayne it stops everything. the first emotion you really remember is confusion. it was supposed to be someone you didn’t know, someone you could put behind you rather than someone who had been in the background for your entire life.

the first time you go to the mansion after the reveal you yell and scream as loud as your lungs could manage. how could he do this to you?? give you up to people who would manage to rip you apart. he hadn’t known, he couldn’t have, but you blame him for it anyway. him and them, the mutants that cause the accident, they’re the only ones you could, even as your brain tells you it’s stupid.

you remember telling him that you want nothing to do with him but even that doesn’t last too long. you move into the manor eventually, after digging your heels in and demanding to know everything. you find out about batman around the same time. the truth about your father, and as much as he knew about your mother.

that first year is hard, you are ripped from your life in new york and placed in a home that isn’t yours. the people in it are aching doing their best to heal from things that don’t involve you, and yet again you are unwanted by the majority a complication they don’t need.

still not everything in your life is bad, you are alive and for what it’s worth you have more family then you’ve ever had before. jason is the first to really make you feel at home. alfred assures you that the others will come around in time, you aren’t so sure.

taking up the cowl was technically dick’s idea, though you couldn’t become batgirl without permission from babs. just like everyone else in your family the bat becomes an outlet for your anger, a way to enact change and for a year you love it. you make the mantel your own and in some ways you’ve never felt more alive then you do in gotham at night.

just like everything else in life however it is possible to outgrow the hero antics and at nineteen you are more than ready to be something more than just batman’s sidekick. so you follow your heart and you leave. the next few years are a bit of lost time. you travel a lot (you parent’s money lets you) never really staying in one place for too long. still that doesn’t mean you don’t try for some form of stability. england is your favorite, grey skies and cups of tea, but somehow you always end up back in the states. especially after things there end badly. you get your heart broke and you can’t see the direction your pointing in anymore.

how predictable that you’d end up in new york again, some days feeling like you’d never even really left at all. still this time your not some wealthy girl. you’re enrolled in the police academy, you work your ass off and you’re on the streets by the time your twenty seven. it’s the perfect balance for you between the rush you used to get as batgirl but also working within the law. you can’t help but enjoy the fact you don’t need to cover your face.

still you’ve picked up a habit of moving on: new york, star city, gotham you’ve worked in each of them. paragon was an odder choice, after so long running from your family, your birth father’s legacy, but at the same time it feels like a good way of touching base for a while. besides, with everything that goes on in town, it’s probably a good idea to have a cop on hand who actually knows how the hero gig works.

her entire life goal (when it comes to the batkids) is to be considered the cool aunt though the extent to which that actually is questionable.

kyle theodore hunt-bentley was born on june 26th (he's a cancer, so you know he's sensitive af) in Arizona. he has two older siblings, one of them lives in crownsville ( @aaron-bentley )

apparently, his parents thought it would be funny to give him two names and two surnames, bc sure the kid has time to write all that in a limited space.

don't mention stars, planets or space because he will never shut up (why? idk i know shit about that but here we are) among his other interests are 80′s hits, unsolved crimes, baking (but he’s bad, so maybe he has a chance at nailed it! fingers crossed), cars and dogs movies (even if he cries his eyes out) he also likes rom-coms because he doesnt know what love is but likes the idea of it okay?

anyway... he is very smart, the kind of kid that annoys the rest of his classmates because he CANT stop participating in class and enjoys correcting his teachers. he is also the kind of guy that would borrow you his homework so you can copy it, he's soft okay?

he was bullied *pretends to be shocked* but he really didn't care? i mean he cared because it sucked, but he believed it was only because they were jealous of how smart he was (did i mention he can be a condescending little shit? well, he is.

he did one year at jerome's high school before begging his mother to transfer him somewhere more challenging. she accepted and he moved to scottsdale to finish high school. he stayed there with some relatives.

kyle was accepted into caltech and mit, but decided to move to massachusetts because california was too close to arizona and how could he reject the opportunity of moving across the country?

he majored in physics with a minor in astronomy. of course, he felt more comfortable there than any other place as many people had the same interests but he also realized that he wasn't the smartest in the room and his insecurities began to manifest.

by his junior year, kyle could barely handle the pressure of staying top of his class (which he achieved but at what cost?!!!) he began consuming adderall but let's just say he wasn't very good at keeping it a secret and his professors found out and sent him to therapy (but he only went to a few sessions). by the end of that year, he had a nervous breakdown. his anxiety was higher than ever and he was starting to develop depression.

one of his professors advised him to take a year off, but he said no. however, the pressure only increased and so did his use of adderall. finally, he was pretty much forced to take a sabbatical and he was so ashamed that he hid it from his family and just pretended that everything was peachy.

however, he was supposed to graduate this year and his parents started to ask questions so he had no choice but to come clean. his parents told him to go back to arizona and spend the reminding of his sabbatical there, but he refused.

during the past year, kyle started therapy again and for the most part, he's been taking the meds and going to his appointments. he also realized that his urge to take adderall decreased (but sometimes still takes it just for the high, but he is a lot more discreet now)

he decided to move to crownsville as his older brother lives here. he arrived a week ago and got a job at the grocery store as a clerk.

personality

he is very nice, and friendly. his social skills have improved in the last years and now he tries to start the interactions instead of waiting for people to talk to him.

lives inside his head which is why sometimes he could appear to be offbeat. he is always thinking of something (which doesn't help his anxiety) and it leads people to think that he is detached or not interested.

he can get very passionate if you start to talk about something he likes to the point that his conversations can border on incoherence as he tries to say everything he wants in just a few words.  

like i said, my boy here can be super condescending. he enjoys sharing what he knows but sometimes he makes it so complicated for others that he gets frustrated when people don't understand what he wants to say and ends the whole thing with a 'never mind'.

if you really want to make him uncomfortable talk about relationships. he's never had a girlfriend. he kissed someone in a party back in college but yeah, of course, he's still a virgin and has no idea how to flirt and most likely he would never realize you are flirting with him until you say it.

he is demisexual and hetero-romantic ¿? maybe idk yet, he doesn't know yet

connections

best friend: they could be friends since arizona or massachusetts. i have two ideas for this: one, they are both space geeks and they bonded over that and talk about constellations and physics problems and it's just a cute brotp. or they can be complete opposites, maybe he is more of a jock but for some bizarre reasons they like each other and now they are best friends even if makes zero sense.

crush: this person was the one that made his heart stop throughout high school or college (or now why not). maybe they talked a few times but they never were too close because she's probably out of his league and when they did he probably came across as the dork he is.

half-brother: so, aaron is literally his brother from the same mother but different father, but he doesn't see him as a half-brother. they are very close and probably the only person in the family that he called at least once a week (the rest he only called when they demanded him to do so).

half-sister: she's older than him, daughter of his father from his first marriage. i think they'd be close but maybe not as much as with aaron, maybe because they have different personalities but kyle still adores her even if he doesn't express it.

former classmates: people he met while he studied at MIT or in high school.

co-workers/customers: he currently works at the grocery store, so the possibilities are endless because everyone has to visit it at least once, right?

Jyou yelped and nearly fell off his chair. “What are you guys doing here! Gomamon!”

“I thought it would be rude to leave your friends outside,” said the sea Digimon reasonably. “Especially since it seems like you need their help.”

“Are you in trouble? If you are, we’ll do everything we can,” Taichi asked, uncharacteristically serious.

Yamato closed the door behind them. “Agreed. We all got worried when you didn’t show for lunch. Did something happen?”

“No, nothing happened! Everything’s fine here.” Jyou forced a nonchalant laugh that somehow came out sounding strangled instead. “Gomamon’s just overreacting – ”

Koushiro peered at the Digimon. “Are you overreacting?”

Gomamon shrugged. “I don’t think so. Is it normal for humans to act like their wrist is broken just because of a little mark that showed up overnight?”

All the boys froze. Then, all at once, they started talking:

“Soul mark?” Koushiro supplied knowingly when the older boy showed no signs of stopping his spluttering.

All at once, Jyou deflated. “Yes.”

Yamato eyed him. “I don’t understand why you’re acting like it’s the end of the world. It’s not a death sentence.”

Taichi patted Jyou on the shoulder. “Yeah, you should be happy! Not everyone is lucky enough to get one, you know. It’s a good thing.”

“Can I see it?” Takeru asked politely.

Jyou hesitated and then offered his wrist for examination. All the boys crowded around it and made noises of interest at the shimmering black tattoo of an abstract seal and whale.

Meanwhile, Gomamon scratched the back of his head. “What’s a ‘soul mark’? I’ve never heard of one before. We don’t have those in the Digital World.”

Surprising no one, it was Koushiro who answered, “A soul mark is a symbol, usually on the wrist, that appears on two people who are destined to be soul mates. No one is really sure of how it’s possible, when they’re supposed to appear, or where the magic to reveal a soul mark comes from, but it’s almost always a guarantee that they will be strongly bonded later in life.”

“Some Digimon are destined to be partners with a Chosen Child. We don’t know who chose us to be paired, it just is. So a soul mate… is a human partner for another human?”

“That’s a good analogy, Gomamon.” Takeru nodded. “Yeah, it’s exactly like that.”

“Huh.” The Digimon looked up at his partner. “Are you worried because you don’t want your human partner to be Chi –”

“Shh!” Jyou fell off his chair in his haste to cover Gomamon’s mouth. But it was too late.

Taichi started laughing. “You mean you already know who your soul mate is? How lucky can one guy be!”

The Chosen of Sincerity flushed so bright, a tomato would have looked pale in comparison. He covered his face. “Of course not! I don’t know… you have the wrong idea…”

Yamato elbowed Taichi in an attempt to get him to calm down. “We’re not making fun of you. We’re all happy for you getting a soul mark.” Takeru and Koushiro nodded, Taichi hastily joining in. Yamato went on, “So what’s the problem? If it’s because you don’t like who your soul mate is, well, you’re still young. People change when they grow older.”

Gomamon patted his partner on the knee. “Talk to us, Jyou. We all want to help you feel better.”

Jyou resisted for a moment longer before he capitulated to their concern. “I do know who my soul mate is. And the problem isn’t because I don’t like her.”

They waited for him to go on. When he seemed disinclined to, Takeru ventured, “Then… it’s because…?”

Miserably, Jyou confessed, “I like her too much. But she doesn’t even know I exist.”

Taichi shook his head. “You’re not making any sense. If she doesn’t know you exist, how are you so sure this girl is your soul mate?”

“I’ve seen it on her wrist before. And before you ask, I’m sure it’s a match. I’ve seen it multiple times.”

“Sounds like she knows you exist to me,” said Yamato shrewdly, “if you’re so familiar with her wrist. Who is this girl?”

Just when it seemed that Jyou was going to return to a normal color, he flushed darker once more. He glanced at Gomamon, who nodded encouragingly, before he took a deep breath. “… She’smycramschooltutor.”

It took them all a minute to parse out Jyou’s words. Then it clicked.

Taichi clapped Jyou on the shoulder. “Buddy, you are an inspiration to us all,” he declared solemnly. “I believe in you. I’m rooting for you. Just go for it!”

“But how can I?” The older boy’s face was the textbook definition of panic. “She’s totally out of my league! You guys don’t understand! She’s a college girl. She’s pretty and brilliant and I can never even pull together a coherent sentence in front of her, let alone talk to her! If she ever sees my wrist, she’ll laugh in my face!”

Koushiro opened his laptop and began typing. “I’m going to look up social and economic standing differences between known soul mark pairings in history. I’m pretty sure there was a prospective cohort study a few months back that concluded a vast majority of couples were able to overcome initial disparities between the two parties’ circumstances.”

“I heard the same thing,” Yamato acknowledged. “He’s right, it’s not impossible odds. Just… take it one step at a time. Don’t tell her that you have matching soul marks yet. Focus on trying to talk to her and get to know her as a real person first.”

Takeru nodded earnestly. “Yeah, and once you’re more comfortable talking to her, you can let her know about the soul mark. But tell her that you want to build up a friendship with her first. That’ll give you more time to feel confident about being on her level.”

“Yeah, forget about all the extra stuff. You’re definitely not out of her league,” Taichi exhorted. “Fate chose to give you her soul mark for a reason! That’s basically a guarantee that things will find a way to work out. Right, guys?”

Jyou buried his face in his hands. “I think I’m gonna be sick.”
