So, here's the unofficial Certificate.
Tumblr media
If you're having the same problem and want one, here's an editable version on
canva.com
Just make yourself a free account, and use this free template I made. Have fun!
Link will take you to Canva and load the certificate. Now you can double click on any text and type, and you'll have your name, or whatever text box you want to do differently. Fun, right?
Every part of the certificate is editable. Even where I signed at the bottom. You can put your mom's name, your cat's name, CEO of your favorite company, go wild! If you leave my name in, you can submit your proof to me and I'll proclaim on whatever social media that you really did make your 50,000 word goal! Or, you can change that 50,000 to whatever figure you want. It's editable, too. How convenient. Meeting the word count is on the honor system, anyway. After all, my daughter was in our living room while I edited all of those 50,000 words all the way up to the 97,000 I actually edited. And, my first chapter is on Wattpad under the 100 Days On Earth project. I'm waiting a month to edit it again, then I'll be putting it up as a shiny new book there.
I also made a Broken Website round sticker.
Tumblr media
That link is here, for those of you who want to have fun with it or change it up! I altered another artist's Christmas sticker for this.
For more info see this post for my NaNoWriMo troubles in April. In April, I was finally able to fix this. But as of July 19, 2024, I'm having to settle for the Broken Website Certificate.
I deleted my Adia, One Of Prophecy page after meticulously taking screenshots and recreated it. I got the 'completed your goal' flair
Tumblr media
But I am still not marked as a Winner
Tumblr media
This is my page from before deleting, so it's from Jul 17, 2024. I actually finished on the 10th and took a screenshot, but I can't find that one.
Tumblr media
This one, also taken on the 17th, clearly shows my Winner flair.
Tumblr media
Until the 17th, I did have 2 goals on the same project. Next time I will create a new entry for each goal!
If you go to nanowrimo.org/DannisWrites you will see the new project I created, but it is not the same. I didn't get the right stats screens showing my daily entries. Instead, I got this one.
Tumblr media
I'm not going to subtract each of these entries to get the daily totals again! I usually don't have anything on Sunday. Hey, I'm religious! Other folks can do what they want and I won't complain. As for me, I go by my set of rules for me, according to my beliefs. I don't tell anyone else how to do Sundays. Peace, Brothers and Sisters! So, I'm just adding 1700 words per day for what I edited. I won, so it doesn't really matter. I know.
Hope someone finds my template useful and that it makes winning and not getting the stupid certificate a bit easier, for someone out there.
Also hoping NaNoWriMo gets their act together to protect the youth who enjoy doing the program. There are alternatives out there. RoyalRoad.com does Writeathon twice a year and Community Magazine also. Wattpad.com has monthly 50,000 word challenges and fun contests. But I do like doing NaNoWriMo and my account works [except for the WINNER Certificate]. I don't approve of what happened, but I'm not on the forums and I'm not promoting the Youth Program any more. The count on the website was not part of the controversy, so I don't see why that can't continue.
Y'all take care!

I know I'm gonna sound like a crazy old broken record... but hear me out. Lots of speculation as to the true purpose of the thisisnotawebsitedotcom.com thing beneath the cut.
So... does anyone else feel like the ARG website is... odd? Like it's leading to something more coming? And before anyone screams, "Well, ackshully, Hirsch said he doesn't want to do a Season 3-"
YES. I KNOW. He said no Season 3 a million times. I was there when he told us Season 2 was it for the first time. But what he didn't say, however, was, "No more Gravity Falls anything... EVER.". Hence why we've gotten Journal 3, Lost Legends, and now The Book of Bill. Hirsch is veeerrrrry comfortable making more GF stuff.
And as someone that studied programming in college, I can tell you, this website does not seem like it was easy or cheap to make. It's effectively a single screen point and click game in a browser. Looking at the code, it seems they did use a framework called Bridgetown, lacing in looped animated MP4 files with clickable assets on top that make up the interactive elements (e.g the computer), with a lot of content made for the website itself from image files and text for each prompt a user might type. Sure, it's not the most difficult thing to program, but it's a lot more complex than, say, the searchfortheblindeye site back in the day.
That, and as someone who has worked in the corporate world, I'm sorry, but you don't pour this much effort/money into something that is just "lol cool things after product for funsies". If this was just for The Book of Bill, the smart marketing decision would have been to make the lofi album and the website, tease fans with both of them, and let them lead to an announcement of the book itself to tempt them into buying it, not the other way around. Like... Disney ain't gonna do that just out of love for fans. It's Disney, come on. They do things for money.
It's possible that Hirsch paid for it himself just for the fans, but I doubt it. Wanna know why? Because of the website's security certificate and ownership. Let's take a gander at this:
Tumblr media
There are two odd things here. One, the range of the expiration. Most security certs last 1-2 years, at least they did at one of my previous places of employment (and we had like 50+ of them). This one expires November 7th, 2024. Odd, but maybe they only want the website up for a few months? Anyways, as an aside, everyone keep an eye out for November 7th, 2024. Could be nothing, could be something.
The other weird thing is the domain holder. Looking it up on ICANN, it gives this address:
Tumblr media
Look that up on Google Maps, and it takes you to a company called Dun and Bradstreet. Long story short, the company does a bazillion things, but the main thing we're talking about here is:
Tumblr media
Oh gee, Sales and Marketing. And their Sales and Marketing tools? Basically, they use data to tell companies who their audience is, so that they can market to them. Now, why would Disney care about this for a fandom for a show that's been done for almost a decade, just for a book that was released before said website (so we know they're not gathering marketing data for the book)?
Well, if I were to guess... long story short, all this stuff is a tactic to gauge who the Gravity Falls audience is now. Release the book, make some dough and fans happy, tie in a secret marketing data collection gimmick (AKA the website) using D&B as a vendor to hook the data into your CRM, send fans to a website to collect marketing data, and shabam. Now you know who the target market is all this time after.
And why in the hell would a company care about that? You tell me. Why care about who a target market is if you're not planning on marketing something to them later?
It could be that Disney is planning something similar to Gravity Falls and wants to gauge if there'd still be a market for that kind of show. Or... it could mean that Disney is planning on something more substantial related to Gravity Falls or Hirsch pitched it, and they were like, "Well, wait, let's collect data on this, first, so we'd know if it'd be a good business decision.". Not sure.
I mean, maybe I'm crazy, but doesn't this seem fishy to anyone else? If anyone else has any hypotheses as to why Hirsch and Disney have a Gravity Falls website owned by D&B, let me know, but to me... this smells... very... marketing oriented. And Hirsch doesn't seem like the guy to pour his own money into hiring an outside company to gather marketing data, that seems more up Disney's alley.

In the Spectrum Solar System in Broken Yolk Galaxy, three roommates travel from planet to planet on the spaceship Appex (x)(x), for work and misadventures.
Tumblr media
Rutan was born and raised in a zrai community on a space colony that broke off from an older zrai colony that was uplifted by the sophant space faring nedal centuries ago, which chose to recreate ancient zrai traditions. He was brought up to follow his ancient ancestors’ culture, but grew up ostracized due a skin condition that makes communication difficult and leaves him with difficulty socializing. It also didn’t help that he was more interested in nedal culture, and that the art he wanted to make didn’t follow his cultural norms. So when a pair of nedal ambassadors recognize his artistic prowess, Rutan made the tough decision to move abroad on-planet to study art in a nedal university. With the accommodations he received, he was able to graduate in 3D modeling and animation. He works for a while in animation before going solo.
He acquires the spaceship Appex and decided to pilot it around the solar system traveling to new places. He does this at first on his own, and still does so now with his roommates. Rutan is sociable and energetic, though his lack of close friends throughout most of his life left him prone to being clingy and naive to being taken advantage of. He greatly enjoy the company of close friends, but because it’s a rarity for him, he’s adapted to his favorite hobbies which he mainly does alone, such as urban exploring overlooked infrastructure, surfing ancient websites that are centuries old, and artistically recreating his dreams.
Tumblr media
Donelja is a delorix who’s from a moon colony that’s cohabitated by delorix and masakas. The main landmark of the moon colony is an expansive national park that they’ve dreamed of working in since childhood. Biology is a life long passion for Don, but earning an academic certification in it has been a life long struggle. Only being able to graduate in general studies, Don tried various volunteer work in the nature preserve instead, living year to year in various leased board housing, but was never satisfied doing ‘grunt” maintenance when they wanted instead to be a scientist.
It wasn’t until Don met Rutan visiting the moons’ national park, offering more permanent room in his ship, did Don see an opportunity to work more closely with the preserves’ scientists by hauling their bio samples off-moon to the neighboring planets’ laboratories. Don became more satisfied working more directly with the scientists they admired since childhood, though still laments not being to do their work directly. Don has pathological anger issues, and resents their lot in life. It’s been an uplifting opportunity to have a friend like Rutan as support in their career and emotionally. They both bond over journaling, while Rutan journals about cities in their travels, Don journals about the nature they come across.
Tumblr media
Vertex spent several months on the run as a hobo before Rutan offered to take him in, something Donelja was never on board with, but ultimately whatever captain Rutan says goes! Ver doesn’t like talking about where they came from, and is emotionally closed off. They’re constantly taking about moving out of spaceship to live on their own while in the middle of six month interplanetary trips, yet can never find a “good enough” place to do so. Their home planet, the only place in the solar system that would easily make room for them, they consider “crummy” and “off limits” for some reason.
Vertex is closed off and uncooperative, which irritates Donelja, and is easily forgiven my Rutan. Ver spends most of their time borrowing Rutan’s tablet, so at least they’re quite and out of the way for the most part.

People smugly replying to 'Vote Harris!' posts with, "Can you give me a reason to vote for Harris aside from, 'She’s not Trump'?" are fascinating to me. Firstly, are your goddamn fingers broken? She has a website with all her stances on a variety of issues clearly spelled out, including specific legislation she has been involved with or intends to be involved with if elected. You can put in the bare minimum effort and read it yourself and then we can discuss policy if you want.
But secondly, and most importantly, this is like if you were given two options for dinner: one meal consists of food you don't like, and the other is an actual literal pile of horse shit with worms in it, and you're demanding that I give you a list of reasons why you should eat the food you don't like instead of being force fed the worm-infested horse shit or eating it yourself.
This isn't an election where you have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of both candidates and pick whoever is closest to your values. Mr. Whale Psychiatrist lost in 2020 and tried to illegally hold onto power, including whipping up his army of mouth-breathers to storm the Capitol to try and stop the certification of the election. Some of them brought a little jury-rigged gallows and chanted that they wanted to hang his VP. He stole classified information and had to have his home raided by the FBI because he refused to give it back. He is on tape showing someone not authorized to view classified information some of those stolen documents, and he admits in the tape that he shouldn't be showing it to them. His policy is mass deportation and a concept of a healthcare plan. When a reporter asked him at the beginning of the pandemic what he would say, as the leader of the nation, to Americans who were scared and uncertain, he instead ranted about how unfair and mean the media is to him. He said he would be dictator 'for a day' when Sean Hannity specifically tried to get him to say he WOULDN'T be a dictator and liberals are just being hysterical ninnies. He openly admires other authoritarians.
Even if I didn't like a single one of Harris' policies, I would vote for her, because she's not Trump. One or the other of them will be president. Anyone who isn't worse than a guy who tried to remain in office after losing an election, who sat on his hands while his followers chanted about hanging his VP, who stole classified information and stored it in his bathroom, who said the amount of 'widespread fraud' (that he made up) in the election 'allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution' gets my vote.
'Can you tell me why you're voting for Harris aside from the fact that she's not Trump' is not a gotcha'. How about YOU tell ME why you asked such a fucking stupid question in the first place.

Local asshole is asshole, decides rules of physics do not apply to him.
Stockton Rush, that sterling asshole with the hubris of Ozymandias, decided that he believed in the Bulletproof Fallacy.
Bulletproof Fallacy = I have never been shot, therefore I am in fact bulletproof.
You see the problem with this.
So, in an interview in 2022, here are some key quotes via CNN:
"I'd like to be remembered as an innovator. I think it was General MacArthur who said, 'You’re remembered for the rules you break' and you know I've broken some rules to make this."
Douglas MacArthur was not a man of genius, he was overrated and lionized right up until Harry Truman's foot met the back of his khakis.
"I think I've broken them with logic and good engineering behind me, the carbon fiber and titanium, there's a rule you don’t do that. Well, I did."
This man believed that the laws of physics did not apply to him. There are reams of articles on fatigue in carbon fiber and even in titanium.
"It's picking the rules that you break that are the ones that will add value to others and add value to society, and that really, to me, is about innovation. You know innovation is when you take an invention and you make it, you know, accepted broadly."
Innovation is the telephone, the television, the home computer, insulin, MRI scans. Innovation is not an unclassed, uninspected, and apparently uninsured vehicle packed full of moneyed idiots who also ascribe to the Bulletproof Fallacy.
Now, not only did this disingenuous Real Man of Genius run off at the mouth about breaking the rules, dude, he could not have given a fart in a Texas twister about making sure his vehicle was fit for purpose.
Safe. If OceanGate had pursued a certification review “some of this may have been avoided,” Will Kohnen of the Marine Technology Society told CNN on Wednesday. Kohnen is president of the group’s submarine committee and described to CNN a 2018 conversation he had with OceanGate founder Stockton Rush addressing the society’s concerns. “We agreed to disagree,” Kohnen said. Kohnen drafted a letter to Rush on behalf of the group that outlined the concerns. “You are taking on a lot of risk and the risk you are taking might affect the entire industry,” Kohnen said, characterizing his concerns at the time. “We have a very good track record of safety and if something happens it would be a big impact to just…our safety record, and everybody had concerns about that.” “We told him that he should consider certifying it,” Kohnen said, describing the certification as the “gold standard” for safety. In a 2019 blog post on OceanGate's website, the company said classing agencies "do not ensure that operators adhere to proper operating procedures and decision-making processes — two areas that are much more important for mitigating risks at sea. The vast majority of marine (and aviation) accidents are a result of operator error, not mechanical failure." “There are 10 submarines in the world that can go 12,000 ft and deeper,” Kohnen said. “All of them are certified except the Oceangate submersible.” He also said a working beacon on the vessel would help searchers find it quicker "so that someone could direct themselves in that direction.”
This man was a deeply unserious person, head of a deeply unserious company, and a complete clown car of clowns waving red flags.

ok since i've been sharing some piracy stuff i'll talk a bit about how my personal music streaming server is set up. the basic idea is: i either buy my music on bandcamp or download it on soulseek. all of my music is stored on an external hard drive connected to a donated laptop that's next to my house's internet router. this laptop is always on, and runs software that lets me access and stream my any song in my collection to my phone or to other computers. here's the detailed setup:
my home server is an old thinkpad laptop with a broken keyboard that was donated to me by a friend. it runs yunohost, a linux distribution that makes it simpler to reuse old computers as servers in this way: it gives you a nice control panel to install and manage all kinds of apps you might want to run on your home server, + it handles the security part by having a user login page & helping you install an https certificate with letsencrypt.
Tumblr media
***
to stream my music collection, i use navidrome. this software is available to install from the yunohost control panel, so it's straightforward to install. what it does is take a folder with all your music and lets you browse and stream it, either via its web interface or through a bunch of apps for android, ios, etc.. it uses the subsonic protocol, so any app that says it works with subsonic should work with navidrome too.
Tumblr media
***
to listen to my music on my phone, i use DSub. It's an app that connects to any server that follows the subsonic API, including navidrome. you just have to give it the address of your home server, and your username and password, and it fetches your music and allows you to stream it. as mentionned previously, there's a bunch of alternative apps for android, ios, etc. so go take a look and make your pick. i've personally also used and enjoyed substreamer in the past. here are screenshots of both:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
***
to listen to my music on my computer, i use tauon music box. i was a big fan of clementine music player years ago, but it got abandoned, and the replacement (strawberry music player) looks super dated now. tauon is very new to me, so i'm still figuring it out, but it connects to subsonic servers and it looks pretty so it's fitting the bill for me.
Tumblr media
***
to download new music onto my server, i use slskd which is a soulseek client made to run on a web server. soulseek is a peer-to-peer software that's found a niche with music lovers, so for anything you'd want to listen there's a good chance that someone on soulseek has the file and will share it with you. the official soulseek client is available from the website, but i'm using a different software that can run on my server and that i can access anywhere via a webpage, slskd. this way, anytime i want to add music to my collection, i can just go to my server's slskd page, download the files, and they directly go into the folder that's served by navidrome.
slskd does not have a yunohost package, so the trick to make it work on the server is to use yunohost's reverse proxy app, and point it to the http port of slskd 127.0.0.1:5030, with the path /slskd and with forced user authentification. then, run slskd on your server with the --url-base slskd, --no-auth (it breaks otherwise, so it's best to just use yunohost's user auth on the reverse proxy) and --no-https (which has no downsides since the https is given by the reverse proxy anyway)
Tumblr media
***
to keep my music collection organized, i use beets. this is a command line software that checks that all of the tags on your music are correct and puts the file in the correct folder (e.g. artist/album/01 trackname.mp3). it's a pretty complex program with a ton of features and settings, i like it to make sure i don't have two copies of the same album in different folders, and to automatically download the album art and the lyrics to most tracks, etc. i'm currently re-working my config file for beets, but i'd be happy to share if someone is interested.
Tumblr media
that's my little system :) i hope it gives the inspiration to someone to ditch spotify for the new year and start having a personal mp3 collection of their own.

201 Days
Day 201 - May 24th, 12.024
Yes, I didn't notice that yesterday was the day 200 of the daily blogs.
Past Promises
If you are reading this since the first months of this personal challenge, you probably are wondering what happened to the projects like Hobbiest Monologue and the Elementria comics that I presented on the comemoration for 100 days. Well, I pretty much forgot about them. It is somewhat disappointing, but I kinda learned that it is better to do things before promising them, not only because it helps with not disappointing people, but also to keep your motivation and the urge to keep doing said thing.
Will I make said projects in the future? Maybe, the YouTube channel for Hobbiest Monologue is done, and both of them also have their respective logos and brands made. However, I'm not really focused on creating more content besides these blogs. Maybe one day when I have a professional job and a good enough workflow and tools to help mitigate the time and energy that these projects need, I will go back to the ideas. I do still love video creation and art, but I have other focus now. And it isn't like I won't make anything related to these topics, but a long-term project is not a good idea for now.
Past Achievements
Besides, I was able to do some projects. The main idea of "The System" wasn't really made into reality, since the whole idea of it were somewhat broken. However, said idea made me do a lot in the process.
I have finally started to learn, and completed a project with the Rust programming language! It is a simple project, and I didn't really make everything that I have planned, but it is good to have a CLI tool to manipulate markdown, which I am actively using in scripts on my Obsidian vault, and hopefully said project will grow and stabilize to be used by other people in their files. For now, I don't know how much about Rust I will continue. The main focus for me with the language is CLI tools and AST manipulation, since it feels to be a good use of it and in general I had a better experience (compared to something like JavaScript for AST manipulation). Yes, I could learn more about async and lifetimes, but I have already wasted a lot of my years just learning stuff, so if I need to in a project, I will learn them, I just don't want to actively be just studying concepts and syntaxes.
Talking about actually doing stuff. I really learned to not step too close into the sun, and stop abstracting even my fucking NixOS configuration. Programmers do love making abstractions before they are necessary, but fucking god, having anxiety and trying to predict every outcome of the program because of it, really takes it into the next level. And that's why I'm learning Go.
Like Rust, I was influenced by ThePrimeagen to learn Go, and HTMX (with some sprinkles of AlpineJS maybe), for server-side and web development in general. And it is being a great experiment, it is also funny how I haven't even read the docs of Go, and still am able to create a working website and server, without any dependencies. It is a breath of fresh air after learning so many JavaScript frameworks, build tools, libraries, etc. Nonetheless, learning the language can also help to find a job, it feels like it's starting to have more attention and opportunities, and besides I'm not "just another JavaScript developer" at least.
And hopefully the continuous task of improving my GitHub and LinkedIn profiles, improving my portifolio, getting certificates, and just trying to be more active on my accounts, can also help. I already send more than 70 applications, without any feedback whatsoever, but I will not give up, because I want to be able to hug my girlfriend and have a house with her in the future.
Past Chaos
Besides all what I somehow achieved, these last three months were a lot harder than I expected. Actually, I couldn't even predict what happened, and it feels like time passed by without I'm even noticing. I'm surprised that I even managed to complete anything.
I do not want to give a lot of personal information on the internet, even less if it is related to family and nothing to do with creative process or work. But as you probably noticed on a past blog post, I lost my (grand) grandmother, the person who raised my dad, that my mom took care of for pretty much 16 years, someone who lived until 99 years old with an incredible health to her age. My dad's family has a lot of issues, every family has, and my parents sacrificed a lot of themselves, since others didn't do anything better to take care of her. However, said sacrifices started to hit a lot this year, and my parent's mental health were in the limit, as my grand grandmother's health as also hitting the limit. I didn't work a lot during the time, since I wanted to be with my parents, not just to give some support, but also strength to fight, so others would take some action. And they did, but it didn't last that long.
Something that I want to be clear, you do not know what really was happening these three months, even less these 16 years, it may be my anxiety kicking right now, but I do not want no one to judge, make assumptions, say what we should have done, anything like that, now or in the future. You don't know me, I don't know you. She lived a healthy and long life, and my parents now can rest and are better thankfully, and this is what I care about.
The only thing that I want you to take from this, is to take care of the people that you love, they can be parents, grandparents, partners, friends, I don't care, take care and be with them when they need, the same way they were when you needed it. And know, independently of what happens, you will be okay in the end, do not let chaos make you give up, I beg you. I may be just 19 at the time of writing, but I gave up on so many things for so little, that these three months really showed me how much stronger I can be, mostly because of the people that are around me. So I ask, I beg, whatever you want to make in life, do not give up easily, be strong, be there, for you, and for the people that you love.
---
Thanks for reading, hopefully the next 100 days will be better. And besides, whatever happens, I hopefully will meet you tomorrow, and every day until day 300.
- Someone who's trying to improve.

Technical SEO Essentials: Elevating Site Structure and Performance
Tumblr media
In the intricate world of search engine optimization (SEO), technical elements often play a decisive role in determining the success of your website. While content and keywords are essential, neglecting technical SEO can hinder your site's visibility and performance in search engine rankings. Let’s delve into the essential aspects of technical SEO, focusing on optimizing site structure and performance to enhance your online presence.
At the core of technical SEO lies the foundation of your website – its structure. A well-organized site structure not only improves user experience but also makes it easier for search engines to crawl and index your content. This begins with creating a logical hierarchy of pages, ensuring that each page is accessible within a few clicks from the homepage. By organizing your content into categories and subcategories, you can create a clear and intuitive navigation structure that guides users seamlessly through your site.
Moreover, optimizing URL structure is crucial for both users and search engines. Clean, descriptive URLs not only make it easier for visitors to understand the content of a page but also provide valuable signals to search engines about the relevance and hierarchy of your site. When crafting URLs, aim for simplicity, incorporating relevant keywords while avoiding unnecessary parameters or dynamic strings. Additionally, ensure that URLs are static and permanent, as frequent changes can lead to broken links and loss of SEO equity.
Another key aspect of technical SEO is optimizing website speed and performance. In today's fast-paced digital landscape, users expect websites to load quickly and seamlessly across all devices. A slow-loading site not only frustrates users but also negatively impacts search engine rankings, as page speed is a crucial factor in Google's algorithm. To improve site speed, start by optimizing images and multimedia content, compressing files, and leveraging browser caching. Additionally, consider implementing a content delivery network (CDN) to reduce latency and deliver content more efficiently to users around the world.
Furthermore, mobile optimization is no longer optional – it's essential for SEO success. With the majority of internet traffic coming from mobile devices, Google prioritizes mobile-friendly websites in its search results. To ensure your site is mobile-friendly, adopt a responsive design approach that adapts seamlessly to different screen sizes and resolutions. Test your site across various devices and use Google's Mobile-Friendly Test tool to identify and fix any issues that may arise.
In addition to site structure and performance, technical SEO encompasses a myriad of other factors that can impact your site's visibility and rankings. These include optimizing meta tags, implementing schema markup, and creating an XML sitemap to help search engines understand the structure and content of your site. By paying attention to these technical details, you can improve the overall health and crawlability of your website, ultimately boosting its presence in search engine results pages (SERPs).
Moreover, security is an increasingly important aspect of technical SEO. With cyber threats on the rise, Google gives preference to secure websites with HTTPS encryption. By installing an SSL certificate and migrating your site to HTTPS, you not only protect sensitive user data but also signal to search engines that your site is trustworthy and deserving of higher rankings.
In conclusion, technical SEO is a fundamental component of any comprehensive SEO service. By optimizing site structure, improving performance, and addressing technical details, you can enhance your website's visibility, user experience, and ultimately, its success in search engine rankings. So, if you're looking to elevate your online presence and drive organic traffic to your site, don't overlook the technical aspects of SEO – they could make all the difference. Are you looking to get your SEO off the ground? If yes then it is best to connect with the experts providing the best SEO services in Gurgaon.

Did you know there are services that offer free university-level modules, for free?
I am one of those people that are obsessed with learning, but structured courses are expensive. Not these. Here are some links if you, too, are obsessed with the pursuit of knowledge and want to learn something (for FREE!)
EdX is my personal favourite. It offers loads of subjects that are usually taken from university courses, and the ones that I have done are pretty good. These can all be taken for free, or you can pay £40 to take the assignments and recieve a graded certificate. Now, the catch here is that most of the courses are archived, which means that, occasionally, some of the links won't work and you have to be creative with the readings. I have found this to be a pretty minimal issue though, and it is worth it.
I recently took this EdX course about 19th Century literature and it was excellent. Some of the links were broken so I took some creative liberties with the readings, but I read all of the books discussed and used the course materials to critically analyse them as I did so. I didn't follow the course exactly, but it was still an enriching experience and something I wouldn't have thought to do otherwise.
Another good one is OpenLearn, which is a branch of the Open University. The OpenLearn courses are usually pretty good, although some can feel a bit lackluster and basic. Don't expect super in-depth courses, but they're good for an introduction to a subject, or to top up your skills in somethign you haven't done in a while. These offer free certificates of participation, so they're great if, say, you want a career change but you haven't studied data science since college. I enjoyed the classes I took, but I wouldn't say they were as challenging as EdX.
I recently took this OpenLearn course about Hadrian's Rome. Classical history is something I'm interested in and this was a great way to guide my study of an aspect of it.
Coursera is a very popular one. Similar to OpenLearn, these courses can sometimes be a little surface-level. These also have a much larger focus on building transferrable skills than developing cultural knowledge and learning for your own enrichment. Even so, there are some wonderful gems on there if you're willing to scroll through and find them. Coursera is also great because it has project-centred courses, where you work towards a finished product under the (virtual, recorded) guidance of an expert. Think of it like a corporate skillshare.
Last summer I took this Coursera course about screenwriting. It was project based, and I came out of it with a fully realised first draft of a pilot episode of a TV show. I realised through this process that maybe screenwriting wasn't for me, but it allowed me to get out of my comfort zone with writing and explore that avenue that I would have probably always wodered about.
OpenCulture is a good database of free courses that then redirects you to other websites, but you have to be willing to sift through the sludge with this one, as some are more worth your time than others.
Another good way to find free courses is to search for them on university websites. I have found that most US universities (and loads of UK ones too, though it is less common) offer free online courses. You have to be careful here, because sometimes they will say they are free but actually the 'free' part is viewing the syllabus.
You might be thinking 'what is the point of a course that doesn't get me a qualification?' and I'd say 'I get you, because I felt the same way,' but if you're anything like me and love learning, they're a godsend. Of course, there is nothing stopping you from finding all of the course content online, and I'd actually encourage you to do that alongside the courses, but knowing where to start is the difficult part. There is so much information to learn about any given topic that it can be overwhelming. These courses provide you with a structure that you can then use within your own wider research to learn about subjects you maybe don't want to commit to in a formal setting.
I'm not paid by any of these websites, I just think the monetisation of knowledge is wrong and awful and disgusting and anyway to beat that should be celebrated and shared and used as widely as possible.
Happy learning! :)

Hi, Kirri! I'm from South America and I'm trying to do a research about australian high school. I would like you to clarify some questions I have about school subjects, like: which ones are optional and which are mandatory? also, if you could send me some reliable websites than i can look up. every website i see says something different, can be very confusing so I decided to ask a australian person. Thank you!!!!
Hi, hey, i've been summoned! Okay, i'll admit to you upfront, it's been a hot minute since I was in high school so my knowledge is partly from personal experience but also what is published online. The school structures and curriculum differs from state to state, so it's no wonder you had trouble finding clear answers. I'll try to explain simply:
Australian high schools run from years 7 to 12. (We actually have 13 school years in total including Kindergarten, or preparatory, which is not numbered.) Students can finish in year 10 if they choose not to complete their senior years and test for university entry. If a student finishes in year 10, they get a Record of School Achievement; if they finish senior studies, they get a certificate of education depending on which state they're in:
NSW - Higher School Certificate (HSC)
VIC - Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)/Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
QLD - Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA)
SA - South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)
WA - West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
TAS - Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE)
ACT - Australian Capital Territory Senior Secondary Certificate (ACT SSC)
NT - Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE)
The national curriculum has eight compulsory learning areas, which can be categorized into subjects:
Tumblr media
Then there are a wide range of electives, which vary greatly depending on region, type of school (state-funded vs private/faith-based) etc. Students in years 9 and 10 typically choose three electives. Here is an example of electives available to a school in NSW.
In addition, many schools offer the opportunity to study a vocational (often trade-based) course in preparation for studies after high school, called TVET (TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training). Many of these course results in credits toward school outcomes. I guess you could say that TAFE to Australia is like community college to the US.
The school year is broken up into four 'terms', with dates varying between states (see links at end for a list). A typical school day goes from 8:45am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday, with breaks for recess and lunch between period. A 'period' = one class, which typically runs for 40 minutes.
Upon completing senior studies and final exams, students are given an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), which they can use to select and be admitted to university. In fact, senior exams have just begun so it's a good time to keep an eye on social media and see how current students are talking about the experience! 'ATAR Day' (when rankings are released) is on December 14, another time to take a look.
Australia also has specialist high schools, such as creative and performing arts schools, intensive English centres (for students with English as a second language), sports schools, and technology schools. All of these must teach the compulsory subjects, but offer the chance to specialize in these areas.
Websites where you can learn more about the Australian curriculum:
Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 Australian Schools Directory
Study Australia
ACARA (for statistics)
TVET
ATAR
Hopefully that will help you! I hope you don't mind that I posted this answer but I thought it might be useful to others as well. If you have any other questions, go ahead and ask and i'll do my best!

How do I use WordPress for Ecommerce?
WordPress is a versatile platform that can be effectively used for e-commerce. Here's how to make the most of it:
