Our current understanding is about 5,233 5,214 trees will be destroyed over 12.3 acres. “60,000 cubic yards of ‘waste’” is about 6,000 dump trucks that will be transported thru Ocean Park & Bayfront.
According to Official City website:
“In addition to low lying wetlands grasses and plantings, over 600 trees will be planted including 336 live oaks and 192 water oaks.”

Will this part of the Ordinance be ignored?
“The City Staff and any contractor directed by the City are to make good faith efforts to preserve any trees that are at least four inches in diameter, especially live oaks. The City may work with nonprofit partners that focus on tree preservation in its preservation and replanting work on the Project. Without delaying and to the extent feasible for the Project, the City Manager is to bring forward publicly a plan to mitigate tree loss for those trees that are at least four inches in diameter.”

The Brock Environmental Center team is among the first Living Building Challenge projects to openly share its substantial, exhaustively researched materials database, which is in compliance with the Red List and appropriate sourcing imperatives.
The materials database is available at the SmithGroup JJR website. SmithGroup JJR is the architect for BEC.
Start here to check out The Brock Environmental Center Materials Database.
We feel this enables the industry’s collective knowledge base to move along more quickly, benefitting the desire for healthier and safer buildings for all.

Teach your children well
So amazing. The @chesapeakebayfoundation Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach is one of the greenest buildings in the country! If you live here or are ever visiting I highly recommend a tour and hike around the property. My family and I just had the best time learning & exploring! Opens to the public January 2015. #SavetheBay #chesapeakebay #motherearth #gogreen #virginiabeach #teachyourchildrenwell #cbf #chesapeakebayfoundation #brockenvironmentalcenter

Be sure to check out more pics & info at TidewaterCurrent.com:
Steve Posselt, a kayaktivist from down under is currently paddling up the East Coast to garner public support for climate talks late this year in Paris. His route which covers waterways in three continents brought him to Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach where he toured the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Brock Environmental Center.
