Silent Hill (2006)

Release Date: April 21st, 2006

I was going to watch these horror movies in order of release date, but that’s too much work. So they’re just in the order I wrote them down. I don’t like the official Silent Hill poster, where the girl has no mouth, so I chose the one with the nurses, because they’re my favorite part of the movie. I’ve never played the video game, and this movie freaks me out so I think the game would give me a heart attack. A woman and her daughter get into a car accident on a long stretch of road, and the woman loses consciousness. When she wakes up, her daughter is gone, and she’s in a strange town where weird, spooky things happen. She sets out to find her, and wanders through a level of hell. It’s alright..... Never watch the sequel.

Rating: C. The curse of the “good up until the reveal” movie.

Do I like Ed Kemper? Of course not, he was a murderer and necrophile who allegedly fucked his own mother’s decapitated head. Do I think Britton did a fantastic job of portraying him? I sure do. He was even nominated for awards for his performance. 

In short, I see no issue in liking the actors for doing their job. As long as you can keep your like for the actors separate from the people they portrayed I don’t see a problem.

We got her in April of 2019, and no matter how I felt, she had to go out for walkies. I am certain having a creature is what kept me holding it together during the worst times. I'm in Portland, OR, one of the cities that did not fuck around with quarantine rules. We were locked down for over a year.

At the same time, I was being manipulated into an abusive caretaker relationship with a friend I truly trusted to never do that to me. And I was getting burned out as fuck at work.

Meanwhile, Sean was doing his best to support me, the friend manipulating us both (though me more directly), and figuring out ways to get his extrovert energy out.

And then there was Bean. Who was just happy to go walkies and sniff at things and take little adventures to the park or a different neighborhoods to get walkies with different smells.

I ended up switching jobs in May of 2021, when we were still under lockdown. That helped a lot.

I also maxed out on Effexor and started having the dangerous side effects and went through a planned 7-week med change (ended up needing 8) and onto a med that worked much better at lower dose (Pristiq).

With all of that in place, I was able to even out again. Quarantine lifted, and now Bean could go on bigger adventures. As could I. As could Sean. And a year later, I was able to really strikingly realize how my now former friend had used my previous trauma to slowly trap me into an abusive relationship of being a caretaker against my will.

When I had to break that relationship off, I spent a lot of time cuddling the creature and crying. Sean was there for me, too, of course. As were other people. But sometimes you need a creature. And boy howdy, what a creature.
