very random but if santana were to watch yellowjackets….. what would her thoughts be. does she appreciate the homoerotic toxicity of jackieshauna or is she more of a taivan kind of girl.

This is such an interesting question haha and rest assured something I'll be thinking about when watching s2 of Yellowjackets

Santana would for sure watch Yellowjackets it's so her jam. She'd be horrified at a lot of it but would love it. Loving the thought of 28-29 year old Santana being so invested in the lives of these teenagers/MILFs, actually.

I think she herself would tell you that there's no need to choose between being a Jackieshauna or Taivan girl. She appreciates both! Taivan appeals to her as an interracial teen lesbian couple who are allowed to just be themselves among the group and she really digs adult Taissa, too. She's also very disappointed that Nat isn't a lesbian but Brittany rightfully points out that she could be bi. I think Santana would be the kind of girl to root for adult Taivan so we'll see whether her wishes come true.

As for Jackishauna, she's glued to the screen. She didn't like either of them at first because she recognized different things in them but my god she can't resist a good messy homoerotic codependent friendship any more than the rest of us can. She sobbed when Jackie died and appreciates the hell out of the toxicity the two have. She keeps rambling to Britt about how stupid they all are and how she'd do better but really she just feels for these girls so much and when she gets drunk after a watch party she mumbles and cries about what life Jackie and Shauna could have had. Girlie has feelings about it all.

She also appreciates the bubbling rage of Shauna very much.

The "Are Helena and Helly the same person or not?" question is to the "Severance" fandom what the "Is there a supernatural element or are these women extremely traumatized?" question is to the "Yellowjackets" fandom.

Both shows have been--so far at least--deliberately ambiguous about said questions, allowing the viewers to form their own opinions.

"Severance" shows that Helena and Helly share personality traits/ quirks and that sometimes the lines blur between them, but the showrunners speak about the innies and outies as different entities.

During season 1, Britt Lower said that she personally considered Helly a teen/younger version of Helena, but she also leaves things to our interpretation and says that we should have empathy for both versions.

The thing is, I do have a preference here (I agree with Lower about our inner child), but there's no side that is wrong.

What do you think about a person that has permanent/serious memory loss? Does amnesia rob them of their sense of self or not?

Do you consider yourself to be your consciousness and thus your memories (a la John Locke)? Then, since Helena and Helly do not share any memories and have different life experiences, you can claim that they are different people.

Do you see yourself as your body? Then Helena and Helly are the same person under different circumstances.

And what about individuals with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder)? You could argue that having several personalities is a form of severance, but things are more complicated in that case.

What makes this question more difficult is that when, for instance, Helly tried to commit suicide, Helena was harmed too. When Irving almost drowned Helena, Helly felt that too. They share a brain and a body.

Freud sucks, but his concept of id, ego and superego can be very much applied here.

And there's the reintegration progress. It remains to be seen how well it'll work for Mark given that Petey died.

My point is, "Severance" raises many interesting questions regarding our worksonas and office jobs, our identities, consent, grief, love, work-life balance and ethics (think of Musk and his Neuralink) among other things, which makes me find the constant "I hate Helena, but I love Helly" discourse oversimplistic and rather inane.
