PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE REBLOG <3
Hi there, My name is Cara and my son is 8 year old Nicholas. Nicholas is an amazing little boy. He will tell you all about the universe, black holes and the possibilities of other galaxies. His stories will entrap your heart and make you think anything is possible. Everyday hes happy and aims to help everyone around him be happy too. His hearts so much bigger then anyone I've ever met. Since 2013 Nicholas has had many troubles in school. He tries so hard to focus and understand but it just wasnt catching on. In 2014 Nicholas was diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, audiotory disabilities and multiple learning disablities. For 3 years Nicholas's previous school in British Colubia did everything they could to help Nicholas on his path to education. Then earlier this year we moved to another province and they dont have the supports that he needs. Even after much pleading with the school board there was nothing they could do. His teacher doesnt understand his disabilities and there for cannot teach him the way he needs. Many days nicholas comes home disheartened, sad and doesnt understand why hes treated differently. He doesnt understand why, even with medication he still doesn't pass tests in school. Why he can't read but his friends can. Why his friends sometimes dont understand him when he starts talking about a 10 different things at once. It breaks my heart. So after much thought and deliberation, I decided that instead of working, I will homeschool him so he gets the education he deserves. Once Nicholas and I discussed home school, he was so excited. His first thing he said was "mom ill be able listen! At school there's too many sounds and noises!". See, Nicholas has an auditory processing disorder. Which makes certain sounds even louder then they actually are. For example, the ticking of a clock; to Nicholas this sounds like a coocoo clock. Or the sounds of pencils on paper, to him its like nails on a chalkboard. Its amazing how sounds to many of us are just noises we can dull out, but to someone with an audiotory disorder these sounds can be painful. Anyway, as he smiled big to homeschooling and couldnt be happier, I knew I was making the right decision for my son. He will have someone that understands him, teaching him. He will have the chance to catch up at home without being bullied by other kids about not understanding the subject or not being able to read like the rest of the class. He wont be bullied or judged when he cant concentrate because of the everyday sounds of a classroom. For Nicholas this is new step forward, a chance to learn and be understood at home. This is chance to go for a field trip without the sounds of school bus breaks painfully in his ears. Unfortunately due to changing mid way through the school year and the governments budget cuts, there is no funding for him till next year. So I am hoping with some kind hearts and a lot of work, I can raise the money Nicholas needs to get set up at home. Please help my little boy get the education he needs to succeed with his dream: A scientist who invents ways to save the earth from pollution. Your donations will go towards: -Math Mammoth -Science Kits -Phonics And so much more
Thank you for taking this time to read. Even if you can't donate, please share this to your media pages. That is a donation as well. Every click counts.

Spruce Budworm Infestation, View from Mount Begbie Fire Lookout (Near 100 Mile House), Central British Columbia, 2006.
Climate change per se is the ultimate cause of the horrific forest fires which have blighted the west this summer. It is not, however, a simple relationship. A number of years ago the spruce budworm started to kill off trees in large numbers. That created a fuel base for fires which then burned in the heat and especially the aridity climate change has brought. The browned trees in this photo are ones killed by budworm.

2 years ago, near my hometown in northern British Columbia, at one of the most beautiful spots I have had the pleasure of frolicking in. I was lucky enough to grow up with some beautiful places to be a child. The warm, caressing, colourful beauty of Mexico is so different and by contrast often calls to mind the craggy greys and greens of my northern home.
My mother took this picture without me knowing or expressing willingness to be photographed, and I think that's why I like it so much - it has the flavour of the solitary weirdo I often am.
