My review (spoiler-free):

Initially, I wanted to avoid this film like the plague as it sounded like something I would most likely hate. I’m quite specific with my tastes in horror and overly pornographic horror is not it for me. However, with its overall good rating and amazing cast, I decided to risk it and it was so much better than I had anticipated! 

X is a typical slasher film but it actually feels like a project where a lot of care was put into. The cast seems perfect for their respective roles and they really made the film their own. I especially liked how beautifully shot the film was, which I certainly hadn’t expected coming into this, and the soundtrack is equally amazing with the film utilizing music to their advantage. It managed to make certain scenes less scary (which is a big win for me) while others more disturbing. And with 70s music, little can go wrong!

Plot-wise, it is as expected with the genre: there’s a basic plot and you shouldn’t get too attached to people. It wasn’t revolutionary but really, does it need to be?  X still really came through with a nice little plot twist near the end that made everything more thought out and gave the film more character. Seeing as there’s a prequel planned, I think it’s very likely I’ll want to check that out knowing how well-made this film felt. 

Finally, it’s interesting to mention the use of prosthetics. Mia Goth plays dual roles of the characters Maxine and Pearl and if I hadn’t looked it up after watching the film, I never would have realised she played the latter. Pearl’s face definitely had uncanny element to it but knowing now it’s all prosthetics and makeup, the crew did an amazing job on that! 

X naturally isn’t for the faint of heart but if slasher is your thing and you can handle a couple of pornographic scenes, make sure to check this out because it is a killer of a horror film!

Now, you may ask, what it is I'm helping to raise money for. Well, WOŚP or the English version of the name - GOCC is the biggest, non-governmental, non-profit, charity organization in Poland. The GOCC Foundation holds American Heart Association certification to provide courses in CPR and AED, and for the use of high technology for medical lifesaving. The GOCC aims to support health care in Poland by purchase of state of the art medical equipment for Polish hospitals and clinics and by establishing and running six medical programmes and one educational programme. The foundation supports paediatric and geriatric wards, furnishing them in both complex medical devices such as MRI scanners, and providing long-term care units with anti-bedsore mattresses and beds. Since April 2016 the GOCC ranks on the top of the list as the most trusted public entity according to Brand Asset Valuator and is the second strongest brand in Poland in the ranking compiled by Millard Brown and Young & Rubicam agency. The GOCC foundation organizes the biggest open-air free entry music festival in Europe – Pol'and'Rock Festival. The GOCC foundation offers first aid & team-building courses, which are open to all adult members of public.

This year they raise funds to finance the purchase of medical equipment for paediatric surgery and subsequent treatment. They will focus on general surgery, cardiac surgery and neurosurgery. The want to improve the conditions of operating theaters, intensive care units and diagnostic imaging departments.

Although healthcare in Poland is technically free (delivered through a publicly funded health care system) and almost everyone has it, things aren't that cool. A lot of the hospitals need renovation, more medical staff etc etc. Thanks to WOŚP they don't have to worry when it comes to the most expensive part - the modern equipment needed to provide better care, mostly for Children and senior citizens.

Now, you may also ask, why should I even care? Well, for starters, if you have a heart, you probably will. Second of all, WOŚP is hated by our very conservative, right-wing leaders who are also Trump's ass kissers, just because the leader of WOŚP tells it how it is and calls out their hypocrisy. So the more money for WOŚP, the more you piss off xenophobic, misogynistic, homo- and transphobic backward fuckwitts, who think that church should rule this country and everyone should be Christian catholic and Trump is their best friend.

Yeah, so thank you. End of the rant.
