The inspiration behind the poppy as a symbol of Rememberance since 1921 to commemorate military personnel who have died in war. I used to hate the idea of celebrating the dead especially if they were "killed in action". . As a person that came from a country that was once been invaded and colonised by the British; giving money to a charity and wear a Poppy flower sounds absurd to me. As these soldiers actually dead because they tried to steal our resources in our own Mother Land. However as time passes by, it struck me that they are human too. Shirley Chisholm #Unbought #Unbossed. She fought hard to maintain her integrity while serving in politics in the 60s + 70s. She quickly learned that those who operate from conscience rather than political advantage were often penalized for going against the grain. But she didn't care; she stayed true to herself and remained positive about her path of serving the greater good. Her vision was for an activist government that would serve the needs of all it's citizens. She believed the people had to know it was possible for someone with decency and a fighting spirit to overcome the system by beating it with its own weapons. 🔺 These roots of corruption, bullying and disregard of a fellow human being are old and deep. That's why it seems so dark all around us right now as we navigate the depths of the underground, cutting and removing the roots of this tired old tree and planting new seeds of intention in its place. 🔺 Shirley was the first African American woman elected to Congress in 1968, and in 1972 she was the first to run for the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination. Support the Shirley-of-today in your community, organization, state, etc. Especially if she doesn't yet realize her ability to positively influence and help others. We are losing connection. Don’t completely disconnect.

We are slowly losing our direct connection to one another as human beings. Technology was made to bring us together close and far, and it has, however, we are beginning to disconnect from our social interactions, and we’re becoming more reliant on texting instead of calling, and because of this constant need to check our devices we keep our heads down, and are unaware of our environment, and the community that once fueled our everyday fun. For those of us on this Earth that have been around before the tech bubble bursted, you know the importance of being able to converse with one another, all the meanwhile, improvising on your feet and coming up with new things to talk about. Texting takes away all improvisation away, and doesn’t develop your soft skills of talking.

With the amount of issues that we currently face, we need to take a step in a different direction, you know, connect with one another, and it can be as simple as this to start...

- Say “Hello” to 2 complete strangers in your neighborhood per day, and include a smile!

I’ve made this part of my everyday routine, and it continues to puzzle people. It never used to puzzle anyone, because it was normal to say “Hello”. However, now, people are completely thrown off, yet extremely happy to be recognized, even if it’s to hear one simple word, Hello!

Let’s start here and slowly work our way back into being a community. Remember, this is a two way street, meaning, if someone says “Hello” to you, say hello back, and if someone tries to spark up a conversation with you, talk to them. :)
