Silly Trolls au idea that I might do more with (probably shouldn’t, I have a lot of other stuff on my plate lol) (Long post so more under Read More, this is just a ramble of an au honestly)

What if during the Great Escape from the Troll Tree, *Viva* had the Pop String? She was still lost along with multiple other Pop Trolls, and now her family have to deal with the loss of her, and the possible loss of ALL THEIR MUSIC

Would that mean that when they didn’t lose their music, they suspected she survived? Or at least someone else got it and there are some survivors? Or would the suspicion be that it’s buried in the tunnels to be forgotten, existing in a limbo as the Trolls are still able to sing and dance? Or maybe the Bergens got it, and they’re now finding a way to use it to make them happy, instead of eating Trolls?

Would they lose their music anyway, just from the assumption something bad happened? Would they be more open to gray Trolls, as it could be a possible after effect of their tribe being separated from the source of their music?

Would King Peppy reveal its existence to other elders, in case they lose their music and he needs someone to rely on? (Probably not, but let me imagine he has like two more brain cells and to not keep it hidden) Would the Pop Trolls know other music and Trolls were out there, but only know a false version of the story?

And then when Barb’s World Tour happens, how will that work out? Will Barb find a Pop Village without a String, and have no clue how to go from there? The Pop Trolls will be practically forced to reveal what happened to them, and how they lost so many Trolls over the years, and how it’s possible that the String isn’t even held by a Troll?

Will she go looking for this lost princess, or try to enter the Tunnels of Certain Death despite the warnings from Pop (if that’s because the tunnels are unstable, or that they haven’t befriended the Bergens, you decide)? Will she have to give up her whole tour, and now deal with the consequences of her actions?

The other tribes have to deal with the fact that because of the schism Pop caused, they lost many Trolls over the years to being eaten alive, cooked, baked, prepared in all sorts of culinary ways (headcanon that the Pop Trolls were captured for a LONG time, my own stories use 150 years at least). Obviously they didn’t deserve that, but in a twisted sort of sense, now they won’t lose their own music, since the Ultimate Power Chord can’t be completed

And then there’s Viva, probably only 12-15 years old, having defended her people, started a community, and hold the ENTIRETY of their music in her hands. Would she keep it on her at all times? Would she switch the harp/lyre for another instrument, one that’s not so suspicious? Would she find a way to hide it in Putt Putt Village, scared but content it’s the only way to keep their music safe? Paranoia says Bergen might show up, and even if she’s a happy-go-lucky Pop Troll, who’s to say someone might try to steal it? It’s powerful, honestly a weapon, it will keep her people safe and hopeful. And she promised her dad to take care of it, and she doesn’t want to disappoint. Her people’s legacy and music is in her hands, it’s a lot of responsibility. Might she even think that the other Pop Trolls lost their music since she has the String, and it’s clear they’re far away from each other. (She wishes she could share the magic of their music with her baby sister)

Anyway that was a lot of ramble for an idea that struck me 15 minutes ago

I am so curious! do you have any headcanons for gabe/v2?

oh! hm. i guess one of the things that i have in mind is that v2 tries its best to be as sweet as possible. and, since it IS a war-killing-machine, it does not quite understand what does sweetness means. it leans for kisses, bumping in gabriels helmet's gently on good days, and hitting him with all its might breaking its visor on bad day. maybe it tries to hold hands but does not know the force that it is putting into it leading to break the poor gabriel's hand. it tries not to be the killing machine like v1 is, really does. gabriel is not very fond of all this affection and is very suspicious of v2 but sometimes its warm motherplate and droning sounds just gets him, yknow. besides, it seems like v2 is the only thing in the whole damn world who understands his hatred towards v1

ON THE OTHER HAND the idea of v2 being like "i know NOTHING about this angel bitch and i want to keep it that way" speaks to me very loud. you know the idea of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and then having some warm feelings towards gabriel for unknown reasons... UHGAHHHH THRES SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!!!!!!!

One of the books I have been sporadically reading is CLR James's Beyond a Boundary and it's very different from The Black Jacobins but I think I could easily be equally obsessed with it. The first chapter is such a beautiful treatment of the tension between parental/societal expectations and the actual reality of being a smart kid, I don't even know how to explain it but he Gets It and I'm fascinated by it.

Not to be a dick but this was why I’m was so surprised that Emma was nominated for a golden globe. Her character did nothing of real note until that last episode, so that’s when she really got to flex her abilities. Alicent is the best written character and Olivia put Alicents pain and frustration in every frown, every look, it was incredible to watch her.

But anyway, to add onto what everyone else is saying and link it to what I’m learning in my history of film class, Hotd is falling into the same trap as Game of Thrones. They need people to keep watching. Shows get produced and canceled so frequently in the age of streaming and the internet. Hotd needs to be viral, and they know how popular Dany was. They need Rhaenyra and Team Black to be popular, they need to create a narrative that is easily digestible, because they don’t care about the source material, they don’t care about art, they care about making money.

And so I am not surprised, but that being said, I think it’s so interesting how fandom reacts to the show and how it fucks with our interpretation because in no world is Rhaenyra the hero of this story to me. I think she is complex. She is hurt, driven by her need to be more than a mother, selfish, immature and spoiled af, has a superiority complex, in love with her former best friend, loving to the kids she put in danger by having them, groomed by her uncle, hates her dad for killing her mom, loves her dad for always sticking by her, wants to be heir, doesn’t want to be heir. I like this Rhaenyra, but she’s not a hero, she’s barely a good person. I certainly didn’t think I was supposed to cheer when she got crowned. It was one of the few times I felt bad for her. She looked like she was going through it. I think fandom does a disservice to characters when they pit them against each other. But also like, I think a lot of Team Black fans, Rhaenyra fans (and Dany fans who still claim she’s the hero and deny she’s so much more interesting not being a hero) water down their faves in order to justify liking them. Alicent fans have never put her on a pedestal, we’ve always loved the complexities of Team Green. Idk where I’m even going with this.

As someone who prefers the Green characters, I don't actually hate Daemon and Rhaenyra. I hate the way they're written and the way the vast majority of the fandom reacts to them. It seriously makes me wonder if we are watching the same show, or if the writers even realize the implications of what they wrote.

Like, Rhaenyra is written as a lazy, reckless, arrogant, cruel, and a kind of idiotic woman. These are fine traits for a character to have. I have adored plenty of characters like this. But there's such a disconnect between what they write her as, and how they frame her in the story. She is depicted as the heroine of the show, the rightful ruler of Westeros, her coronation is deliberately shown as an emotional triumphant moment we are supposed to cheer and smile for. But... are we really?

She has barely shown traits of actually being a good ruler. She has done nothing to solidify her claim, gain allies, or help her father rule from King's Landing. She shows zero skills in politics. Instead she makes the worst possible decisions, treats her little siblings like shit, and runs off to Dragonstone every time tensions rise in court (tensions that are a direct product of her shitty decision-making). She leaves her father to suffer and rot for years, then comes back and insults the woman (his rape victim) who has been taking care of him all this while. She doesn't comfort the girls who have lost their mother, and instead fucks the deceased's husband on the night of her funeral. She plans for her son, who by the rules of this world has zero claim to Driftmark, to usurp Rhaena's inheritance, reducing her to the role of mere consort. This would also put her son in serious danger, but she apparently doesn't think that far. She asks for her freshly maimed and now permanently disabled little brother to be "sharply questioned" over harsh words that were 100% true. And NONE of this is supposed to tarnish her character in the eyes of viewers.

Her story of feeling trapped in her womanhood and an unhappy marriage, and finding forbidden love that ultimately dooms her is sad and could be sympathetic... but because the show gives zero insight into what she was thinking when she had not one, not two, but THREE obviously bastard sons and pass them off as trueborn in a system that would put these kids to the sword if found out, and a world that is explicitly shown to have methods of contraception...... yeah, she comes off as a fucking idiot who has just doomed her own children to a life of constant fear and the threat of execution, for no good reason. Was I supposed to cheer when she got crowned? The emotional inspiring music and the way the scene is shot certainly think so. But I sure as hell didn't cheer.

Instead of feeling like "the more qualified and competent female heir is getting passed over for an incompetent male fool" as the show wants us to think, it feels more like "two incompetent and idiotic siblings are fighting for the throne they feel they're entitled to without putting in any of the work to actually be somewhat deserving of it".

And Daemon... I actually really liked him in the first few episodes when he was a gross little freak running around desperate for his brother's love and attention. He was entertaining and fun. But his character kinda took a nose dive from there, when the writers just had him standing in the corner vaguely smirking, and not saying or doing anything that would pique my interest or give me insight into what he was thinking. He was turned into a cardboard cutout that suddenly comes alive and swings his sword at someone when they needed him to. His fight against the Crabfeeder's army was one of the most ridiculous scenes I have ever seen.

And yet, the vast majority of the fandom either worship him as some badass "alpha male" Jaime Lannister-esque character and bend over backwards trying to defend his ridiculous plot armour moments, or as a swoon-worthy women-respecting malewife and bend over backwards defending his various abusive actions towards women ("he's not sexist for killing Rhea, they were equally mean to each other!!1!1!!"). These insane fan reactions have pretty much soured his character for me.

Not only that, the only fleshed out relationship he has right now is with Rhaenyra. He is given zero scenes or dialogue with or about anyone else that would clue us in on his other relationship dynamics. What does he even think of his kids? How does he treat them? From what the show gives us, it would seem the answer is... he doesn't give a single solitary fuck about them, never speaks to them, and just ignores their existence 24/7 apparently (except when counting how many dragons his side has). And when the kids themselves are not given any sort of characterization or meaningful scenes, the whole thing just feels so painfully boring. There's nothing there for me to be engrossed by. (Remember how intriguing the unloved kids/shitty dad dynamics were in GOT?)

Rhaenyra's and Daemon's characters deserve better handling. Both are played by talented actors. But actors can only do so much when the writing is weak and muddled. Both had so much potential to be fascinating complex characters that I adore watching, but both have fallen short for me.
