People have definitely said this before but i LOVE the dynamic of the Doctor and the Master. They are arch enemies. They are besties. They are divorced. They are tumblr mutuals. They are worsties. They are friends on MySpace. They hate each other's guts. They meet up for dungeons and dragons. They want each other dead. They are on each other's DNI. They are childhood best friends

The US used to have a ton of weird chip flavors until like 7 or so years ago when everything got boring. I still mourn gouda cheese lays every day. Doritos 3D were only recently revived through necromancy. Lime ruffles now have to be imported from mexico

Things I learned in an American supermarket

EVERYTHING IS TO HUGE.

Everything. Is. So. Huge.

Do your supermarkets assume all shopping is done for a family of six? Why is everything so huge??

There are basically no chip flavours. There are a couple (sea salt, cool ranch, a couple more) and then just ten different kinds of chilli/spicy/hot flavour, most claiming to be spicier than the others. Spicy chips are a weird fringe novelty in Australia but here they seem like the main thing.

There may be no chip flavours but there is a hell of a lot of jerky. And chewing gum. Those two things have whole sections, not just a thin sliver of shelf like in Australia. So many chewing gum brands.

There are donuts and ice cream and cakes EVERYWHERE. Supermarket, more like cake/ice cream shop.

The money?? All looks the same??? And it feels like paper???? I mean I know you guys call it ‘paper money’ but I kind of assumed that was an exaggeration? It’s hard to believe it’s actually linen.

The bulk savings are for things WAY in bulk. These aren’t your Aussie “two little packets of chips for one” deals. There are THREE LITRE SOFT DRINKS here, and the bulk deal is for 3 of them. Who needs 9L of soft drink at once? Is this sort of thing for parties? 

Alcohol is cheap; by which I mean alcohol is normally priced for places that aren’t Australia. Our alcohol is absurdly taxed.

Everything is packaged so weirdly. I saw transparent bags of neatly stacked corn cobs. I saw tins of “mixed beans”, HUGE tins of mixed beans.

Snapple and Squirt are real drinks.

There is a brand of hair product called “Aussie” with a kangaroo logo. I have never seen it in Australia. 

The plastic shopping bags are great. They’re not the flimsy things you get in Australia; they’re real, actual bags. I highly recommend these bags.

I once heard the phrase "pessimism is just apathy disguised as philosophy and intelligence." I feel like this applies to simulation theory quite well. An indifference to the complicated nature of the world, slapping a bandaid on it.

The thing is, with biology, chemistry and what-not aside, the similarities are too coincidental and with the existence of mental disorders such as depression and manic episodes. along with the theory that we are in fact, living in a simulation, regular academics cannot fathom the complex structures our simulation has to offer. many religions also note mental illness as an illusion, which suggests we are in a simulation and need to wake up and escape.

Many religions are full of people who are so self-centered that they cannot fathom how living in a good or "real" universe could mean experiencing things that are unpleasant to them, personally. So they conclude that we are living in a simulation, a "fallen" world, or a world created by an evil Demiurge.

It's just egoism.

You know what. I genuinely find the view of villainous or morally grey characters in some fandom circles fascinating. More specifically, how fans of those characters are treated.

Note: i am NOT talking about meta, when a character does something crappy that's treated as perfectly okay. That's just bad writing. I'm solely talking about fandoms.

The MCU fandom is particularly guilty of this. There's a trend there where essentially, if you're a fan of a grey or villainous character, people will villainize said fans themselves and treat them as if they're saying "I think everything this character did is okay", rather than "I think this character is interesting from a writing standpoint", or even more common, "hehe. they're silly :3" Compare this to, say, the Doctor Who fandom, where people literally call the Master babygirl and scrimblo sckrunkle the third. Even though that character is arguably FAR more evil than, say, Wanda. Absolutely insane difference

Villains are written to be likable. Every character is technically written to be likable. It is not a thoughtcrime to like a fictional character, they are all pieces of a machine that function together. Liking a character does not equal justification of their actions.

Fandom needs to learn critical thinking and media analysis, desperately.
