WELCOME TO LUNAR COVE, DEVRIM SELVI
Trigger Warnings: Arrest, Missing Person, Adoption, Rockslide, Death, TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)
In 1992, on May 5th, in Ankara, Turkey, Bulut and Hadiye Selvi welcomed their first and only child. Although they would try for more in the years after, Devrim Selvi wouldn’t have any siblings. Painfully shy as a young boy, the Selvis worried for their son. When Devrim was three years old his parents moved to New York City. Bulut’s brother Berk had a young daughter about Devrim’s age, and the Selvi family agreed it would be good to raise their children together.
In the states, Bulut continued to work as a dentist while Hadiye taught at a public school. Devrim remained shy, but it became less of an issue with his little cousin, Dilan, around. She did a lot of the talking on his behalf. While the children were different, they got along well because of it. Living different lifestyles, unaware of how the other Selvi’s afforded their luxurious means, Devrim and Dilan attended different schools in the city. Once in highschool, Devrim was selected to attend Bronx Science; a stem school for mathematics and science.  It was there he thrived, truly coming out of his shell for the first time. When his aunt and uncle were arrested and Dilan disappeared, Devrim’s social progress took a hit. His parents searched for her for years, hoping to adopt and care for their teenage niece, but without success.
While living in a major metropolitan area, Devrim’s parents liked to take their family vacations in nature. It’s what fostered Devrim’s love for science and nature at a young age. The Selvi family spent a few weeks every summer camping in the mountains or on a lake, even after Devrim graduated from high school. At nineteen years old, on the family’s annual camping expedition, Devrim and his father were caught in a rockslide. Bulut did not survive, and Devrim was lucky to be alive.
Following the accident, Devrim was diagnosed with a TBI and had to overcome many physical and mental challenges on his healing journey. He was forced to drop out of school to focus on his recovery. Devrim underwent extensive physical therapy after his accident. During which time he realized he wanted to work in the medical field. After he was on the mend, his mother left the United States to return to their home of Ankara, Turkey to live with her sisters.
In spite of his struggles, Devrim eventually continued to pursue an education and earned his bachelors in biology before attending dental school. An endeavor he decided upon to honor his late father’s memory. After dental school, he began a residency in oral surgery out in California. His mother was proud. She told him his father would have been, too. All Devrim could do was believe her, because his father was gone and couldn't tell his son he was himself. There would be no Selvi and Son dental office, and he’d always carry the responsibility for that.
During the second year of his residency the private investigator he’d personally hired to search for Dilan after his parents stopped found her. Ironically, she was living not far from where they grew up in some part of Rhode Island he’d never heard of. A single letter, addressed to one Dilan Selvi of Lunar Cove, Rhode Island, would change Devrim’s life forever.
Rarely a conversationalist, when Devrim reunited with Dilan he had a million questions. Her answers only sparked even more. It was a struggle for his rational mind to understand that the supernatural existed. Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, and Fae. His cousin was a subtype of the latter. A pixie, a changeling, swapped with the human Dilan Selvi at birth. It never, not once, changed how Devrim saw Dilan. They were family, whether by blood or not. A certainty that made it easier, with time, to accept that everything he knew about the natural world had changed.
After completing his residency, Devrim decided to move to Lunar Cove, Rhode Island. While he had no memory of the magical, fantastical, supernatural he’d experienced within the town’s borders, Devrim knew all he needed to know about his new home. Dilan Selvi lived there. His cousin who spoke for him when he’d yet to find his voice, who he had searched for for years, finally found. She was his family, and there was nothing more important to Devrim than that.
Devrim was offered a job at a dentist office in town, as well as PRN work at the local hospital. In time, he adapted to the unique needs of his supernatural patients. Acclimated but still amazed by the magic of Lunar Cove's townspeople. Devrim’s fascination led him to begin his own research about the biology of the supernatural. His work consumes most of his time. What he doesn’t spend working or with family, Devrim spends in his cabin, deep within Echo Acres.  A hike from town, but he prefers the solitude. Despite his accident, the avid outdoorsmen never lost his love for nature and finds the woods particularly peaceful. The morning of each full moon he puts out blankets and coffee for the wolves that call it home, too.

merlin’s first instinct, after JUST watching a man get executed for magic, is still to help gaius & catch him with his magic—again! on instinct! it’s so obvious he doesn’t even think about it! and so many people attribute this (often jokingly, but still) to stupidity or carelessness. but i wish we could speak more to the fact that compassion is merlin’s first instinct, at his core—and it may get dulled over time & he may become more cynical, but it’s never entirely gone, either.

Imagine being Billy Preston. You come in to see hi to the Beatles, your old buddies from Hamburg, and they just casually mention they need a keyboard player for their next album.
Next thing you know, you get get this exact look from Paul fucking McCartney and suddenly you're on a Beatles album.

So what do we think the Bright queen thinks Ashton actually… Is? Because I have thoughts.
I Think she Suspects him of being more then he says he is, “The one you call Ashton” “Who or what they are.” but as we all know, Ashton can’t lie for shit. And the bright queen has noticed his horrid charisma. So I personally believe she thinks he’s more then he says he is, But even he doesn’t know it yet.
She knows he’s not a Beacon. Not in the traditional sense. Both Allura and Essek figured that out and The Bright queen has centuries more of experience with these devices. We know she is incredibly tuned into dunamancy (She noticed nott using the mote of possibility) she was already turning to look at Ashton before he took the initiative and showed it off. She also said to Ashton “I do not know what you hold inside either. But there are signatures of power that are familiar and intriguing.” I honestly see little reason for her to lie to him. The only possible way is if she’s trying to tempt them to come to the dynasty but ashton is so obviously already tempted that she doesn’t have to.
I definitely believe she Thinks of Ashton as some form of Gift from the Luxon in one way or another. Possibly she believes them a champion or Vessel, the luxon experiencing the world through this Genasi. I’m not entirely sure. But I do believe she sees it as a good thing. “It's hard to describe, but I feel like I trust them” is what she told the group when she saw the dunamantic cluster that is ashton. And when she was convincing chetney to act as spy for her, she started with “You might yet be a bright spot in our future and history”.
btw I in no way think she wants them dead. If she wanted him dead she could have done it by now. And I don't think she wants to strap them to a table and dissect them. Her dissection will probably come in the form of an interrogation. She 100% wants him to find the luxon and become their faithful, and begin working with her on its reassembly. She told him she wants to show him something, if he doesn't find it first. And if he does, wants to "compare notes."
And of course we’ve already heard she wants them under the Dynasty’s control. I am unsure what she means and her intentions with asking Chetney for a “Means” Of bringing them under the Dynasty’s control. Like is she looking for a weakness? a weapon? a convincing argument? Who knows. I don’t think she wants them harmed unless she deems them a danger to her people and culture. And of this latest episode, I think she believes the exact opposite.
Either way, The bright queen wants to collect this crystal. To what extent and why is interesting.

Saleem Das is a vampire that currently resides in Celestial Hills and has been a Lunar Cove resident for 159 years.
ITS THE END OF THE WORLD
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Demi man, He/Him
DATE OF BIRTH: October 21, 1704
OCCUPATION: Owner/dentist at Bright Bite
FACECLAIM: Assad Zaman
AS WE KNOW IT, AND I FEEL FINE
SPECIES: Vampire
CLAN POSITION: Member
AGE AT TRANSFORMATION: 31
WELCOME TO LUNAR COVE, SALEEM DAS
Trigger Warnings: Blood, Death, Vampiric Transformation, Gore, Brief Mentions of Classism & Religion.
Success. Prestige. Status. Such things were whispered into Saleem's ears since the moment he was born as the eldest son. Heralded into a world, displaced from his roots, growing up in a country that was not his home and yet, was forced to be, in the heart of London, it was not so much destiny which painted his path forward, but intervention. He never considered it divine, not even when he was a believer. Thought it strange, curious, little more than cat's cradle and chess. If there was a boy who could have grown up closer to louder streets and more expressive body language, Saleem would never know him. He was taught in the conversational art of being subtle, of figuring out emotions within the room before he entered so that he might be in command. Dark? Brooding? Mysterious? None of these: amicable, and approachable, and an apt listening ear. Being around Saleem, even as he was upcoming in society, set his foundations for being a sought-after partner for debutantes as he broached his late teens. It was set up that he would have a career in medicine, inheriting his own father's practise, be at the helm of what would turn out to be cutting-age technology and studies of anatomy. He would not say he longed for something else. Instead, he focused on one step forward at a time. The only thing that would turn his head was more power.
But he placed that seed in the back of his head. It didn't grow, so it seemed, for years, easily distracted and entertained by being a single bachelor who never would choose a partner to settle with. Enduring the judgmental eyes of those in the higher society who believed he didn't deserve to be there at all. ( He would show them. This much, he knew, even if not how. ) It was a chance meeting, in his late twenties, when he met a young woman who was of his same age. There was a magnetism which drew him to her, one he couldn't deny, and all around him believed he had finally found someone who caught his eye. But this was different. Hypnotic, almost, and despite how long the two had known one another, becoming close friends, to Saleem, it was as though she was there one moment and gone the next. Life and its cruelties had separated them; their similarities in family and in expectations, their conversations in low light, the glimmer in her eyes which reflected in his own. For several years after they knew each other, his life was little more than some courtships, and his practise. His father had retired then, allowing him to inherit the entire clinic. He opened a new location in the heart of London, around the street from the darker and more wary areas. Perhaps this should've been an omen, but if it was, just as his desire for power was ignored, he didn't look at it. Regardless of a meaningful friendship, Saleem was still an arrogant, and self-seeking person. To hypnotize as he was hypnotized and to restore the debts he uncovered his father leaving behind. Perhaps he overcharged his patients, perhaps not.
Eventually, the puppet strings slipped. Walking home one night, he was attacked by a disgruntled patient who had visited him not one month before. Having been followed, traced, and watched, and then the bite to his shoulder came, clothing torn, skin ravaged — from the same unnamed woman who once haunted him as a courtship that never came to be. Awakening to that thirst was a burning Saleem had never known before. To say that he descended into this darkness was an understatement. Use of abilities he never thought possible, teaching himself by the light of his candle, which then, as eternity stretched, turned into the electric light. He adapted to the changing world, gained further medical knowledge. Witnessing the changes in his teeth, becoming obsessed with the care of others. Of course, for these centuries, he felt alone, as if he was the only vampire left. Leaving several countries behind, emigrating to America, after a decade or so would pass in each, not wanting to draw suspicion. Stories spreading, Saleem overhearing city and townsfolk alike whispering of uncovered bodies, torn-up teeth marks, drained husks left behind. There were many places where the story of the vampire came from Saleem's actions, which was a power he couldn't have anticipated. This was being remembered. And before leaving London, he may or may not have paid an unfortunate visit to several of the descendants of the families who had scorned him. Whose looks he remembered long after.
Little did he know that his sire was one of the Reapers, and he would not come to know this until well into his vampiric life. In a sense, it didn't matter. He also believed that vampires should reign supreme, that this was the extra dose of power he needed and craved. In truth, this began before he left London forever; during this time is when he happened upon another young woman, whose energies he recognised. No, she was not the one who had turned him, who had played the long game in seducing him to this darkness he would never forbid, but to him, they were mirrors. He felt as if the tables had turned, where now he watched, and she spoke, where once, he was the speaker. What he hadn't expected was a true friendship to develop, especially due to his nature. It wasn't as if he had stopped being selfish, nor hungering for more, overnight. Yet as their bond deepened, he couldn't help but not want to ruin her. Drag her down, as she had been dragged. And so, he removed himself from her life — and little did he know that this would not be the last time he'd ever see her.
Upon reuniting in America, he called their meeting as vampires serendipitous. Surprised to uncover she had been turned not long after, that their meetings had always been a hair's breadth away, for once, he felt something like guilt. Perhaps if he had left her — or turned her himself — it would have been different. Alas, such bygones would stay bygones. Though he did not follow after her to Lunar Cove for some time, still not wishing to be tied down to one place, it ultimately was because of her that he went there. The differences in power and the push and pull are things that Saleem has witnessed as Lunar Cove has grown throughout the years. He considers it to be a strange, afterlife blessing to be able to sit still as part of Meena's inner circle, that upon meeting her again it was as though no time had passed at all. And what will happen as more time passes? Having honed his education, opening up the dental practise, planning on remaining very comfortable, Saleem will play the background part. Tap into what he was taught. In his opinion the clan should stay in power, and he might be far too willing to return to that darkness which engulfed him to ensure it. Not just for himself; he is no longer entirely selfish...
