The unnamed tramp in Doctor Who 'Deep Breath' was played by Brian Miller, the widow of Elizabeth Sladen.

While he had been on screen before, this was the first time since her passing.

Steven Moffat found it fitting that he should assist (somewhat) the Doctor as his regeneration stabilises.

Both Miller and Peter Capaldi were greatly honoured to work together, and had enormous fun shooting their scene.
