WOLF PACK PREGAME: ATLANTIC SEMIS VS. BRUINS
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack PROVIDENCE, RI – The Hartford Wolf Pack and Providence Bruins open their second Calder Cup Playoff series in as many years against each other tonight at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence. The puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m., and coverage is available on AHLTV and Mixlr. Tale of The Tape: The Wolf Pack and Bruins met ten times during the regular season, with each team winning five games. The Wolf Pack posted a record of 5-4-1-0, while the Bruins went 5-3-1-1. The Wolf Pack went 2-2-1-0 in Providence during the 2023-24 campaign. The Bruins claimed a 4-2 victory at the Amica Mutual Pavilion in the last team meeting on April 21st, which was the regular season finale for both sides. Trevor Kuntar opened the scoring 13:29 into the game, driving to the net and beating Dylan Garand with a backhand bid for his tenth goal of the season. However, the Wolf Pack responded moments later, tying the game at 16:14. Jake Leschyshyn took a pass from Anton Blidh at the net front and buried his eighth goal of the season. 1:28 later, at 17:42, Blake Hillman shot the Wolf Pack ahead through traffic that Brandon Bussi never saw. The goal was Hillman’s career-high fourth of the season. Georgii Merkulov drew the Bruins even 5:41 into the second period, jamming home a rebound for his 29th goal of the season after Garand made the save on the initial point shot from Mason Lohrei. The goal sent the sides to the third period deadlocked 2-2. Patrick Brown drove down the right-wing side just over the halfway mark of the period, flipping a pass to Nick Zabaneh in front of the Wolf Pack net. Zabaneh, in his professional debut, buried his first career goal at 11:11 to make it 3-2 Bruins. The goal would stand as the game-winner. Merkulov hit the empty net at 18:38, potting his 30th goal of the season. He became the first Bruin since Frank Vatrano in 2015-16 to hit the 30-goal plateau in a single season. Veteran forward Jayson Megna led the way for the Bruins in the season series against the Wolf Pack, scoring nine points (3 g, 6 a) in ten games. Brett Berard (4 g, 3 a) and Alex Belzile (3 g, 4 a) led the way for Hartford with seven points each against the Bruins this season. Wolf Pack Outlook: The Wolf Pack became just the second team in 21 tries to win a best-of-three, First Round Calder Cup Playoff series after losing Game 1. The comeback was completed on Sunday afternoon in Game 3 when the Wolf Pack defeated the Charlotte Checkers 3-1. Jaroslav Chmelař broke the ice 10:10 into the game with his first career Calder Cup Playoff goal, giving the Wolf Pack a lead they never lost. Chmelař drove in on the right-wing side before cutting to the net and snapping a shot by Magnus Hellberg. Riley Nash extended the lead to 2-0 at 4:21 of the third period. Brett Berard found Nash at the backdoor, hitting him with a pass that set the veteran up to slam the puck into an empty net for his second goal of the series. The powerplay goal would stand as the game-winner and the series-winner for Nash against his former team. Berard then used a burst of speed to create a shorthanded breakaway, which he converted for his first career Calder Cup Playoff goal at 14:52 of the third period. Brendan Perlini got the Checkers on the board 39 seconds later at 15:37, scoring from the top of the left-wing circle on a six-on-four advantage, but it would not be enough. Garand slammed the door shut from there to help the Wolf Pack complete the comeback. Garand made 38 saves in the victory, tying the single-game Calder Cup Playoff career-high he set in Game 1. Nash (2 g, 1 a), Berard (1 g, 2 a), and Nic Petan (1 g, 2 a) are all tied for the team lead in points with three each through the First Round. Nash’s two goals led the Pack against the Checkers, while Berard, Petan, Brennan Othmann, and Mac Hollowell all exited the series with a pair of assists to their credit. Bruins Outlook: For the second consecutive spring, the Bruins earned a bye through the First Round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. The Bruins finished second in the Atlantic Division with a record of 42-21-6-3, good for 93 points behind only the Hershey Bears. Their 93 points were good for second in the Eastern Conference, behind only the Bears, and fourth in the AHL behind the Bears (111 points), Coachella Valley Firebirds (103 points), and Milwaukee Admirals (97 points). At home this season, the Bruins went 21-9-3-3. They finished with 48 points at home, which is second in the Eastern Conference behind only the Bears. Their 21 wins at home were also second in the Eastern Conference, once again only trailing the Bears (29). During the regular season, Merklov led the Bruins in both goals with 30 and points with 65 (30 g, 35 a). Megna, meanwhile, led the club in assists with 37. He recorded three assists in the season finale against the Wolf Pack. Kiki’s Game Preview to the Chicago Blackhawks-Dallas Stars Game (02\24\2019)
Previously in the Blackhawks’ Last Game:
The Blackhawks lost to the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 on Friday night. They tallied multiple power-play goals for the 10th time this season (with 2 goals in tonight’s game).
Patrick Kane scored his 39th goal of the season, extending his point streak to 20 games and his fifth consecutive game that he has scored a goal.
Kane is only the 7th player in NHL history to record multiple 20-plus game point streaks in his career (joining NHL players Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, Guy LaFleur, Mario Lemieux, Adam Oates & Steve Yzerman). His five-game point streak is the longest such streak by a Blackhawk this season and is also the longest since Artemi Panarin’s five-game point streak in the 2016-17 season (which lasted from March 27, 2017 to April 4, 2017).
Kane’s 13 shots on goal during the game ties with Patrick Sharp, Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull for the second most shots in a single game in Blackhawks team history, Ed Litzenberger. His 13 shots mark a career high for him and are the most by any player in the NHL since Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals tallied 15 shots on goal on November 10, 2015 vs. the Detroit Red Wings.
Alex DeBrincat scored his 34th goal of the season, extending his point streak to four games. DeBrincat has scored five goals in his last three games and his eight goals since February 7th currently share second in the NHL (trailing only Vladimir Tarasenko of the St. Louis Blues, who has 9 goals).
Dylan Strome scored his 16th goal of the season, extending his point streak to four games. He has at least one point in 9 of his last 10 games played; during the 10-game stretch, Strome has 16 points (with 12 assists & 4 goals). Since being acquired by the Blackhawks from the Arizona Coyotes on November 25, 2018, Strome has gotten 38 points (with 14 goals & 24 assists).
Jonathan Toews had a multi-point game with two assists, extending his point streak to 5 games where he has gotten 14 points (with 6 goals & 8 assists) in his last 10 games; it is also his sixth multi-assist game of the season.
Erik Gustafsson had a multi-point game with two assists, making it his second consecutive multi-point game; he also paced all Blackhawks players in the game with 26:18 of total ice time. Since February 10th, Gustafsson has gotten 8 assists, which are the most by any NHL defenseman. He continues to lead all Blackhawks defensemen in points, goals & assists.
Duncan Keith got his 25th assist of the season on Strome’s goal. In his last 6 games, Keith is averaging one assist per game and his +16 rating since January 20th paces all skaters in the NHL.
Collin Delia was the losing goaltender; he made 26 saves out of 30 shots on goal during the game.
Blackhawks vs. Stars:
Tonight will be the second time this season that the Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars will play against each other; the last time both teams faced each other back on December 20, 2018, the Blackhawks defeated them 5-2 with goals scored by Patrick Kane (who had two), Alex DeBrincat (who also had two assists), Erik Gustafsson and Brendan Perlini. Cam Ward made 26 saves out of 28 shots on goal during the game.
The Dallas Stars will be coming off a 3-0 shutout loss against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Ben Bishop made 28 saves out of 30 shots on goal during the game.
Players to Be Aware of:
Tyler Seguin (who currently leads the team in points, goals & assists; he has gotten 6 points with 4 goals & 2 assists in 3 out of his last 5 games; he had a multi-point game with a goal and an assist in the Stars’ last game; he has 57 points with 26 goals & 31 assists so far this season)
Jamie Benn (who is currently second on the team in goals and third on the team in points; he has gotten 3 points with 2 goals & 1 assist in 2 out of his last 5 games; he had a multi-point game with 2 goals in the Stars’ last game; he has 41 points with 21 goals & 20 assists so far this season)
Esa Lindell (who has gotten 5 points with 2 goals & 3 assists in 3 out of his last 5 games; he had a multi-point game with 2 assists in the Stars’ last game; he has 28 points with 9 goals & 19 assists so far this season)

2019 /r/hockey Offseason Sim Recap
Hey everyone,Throughout the summer /u/sandman730 and I organized a massive in-depth reddit hockey offseason simulation. We followed the real life important hockey events in the offseason and essentially had reddit users take over as GMs, making (for the most part) realistic changes to the lineup through the expansion draft, NHL entry draft, Free agency, and Trades. The end goal of the sim was to create a 23-man roster which would be judged by fans of the team and see how the GM did in comparison to IRL.Check out the Main Spreadsheets /u/sandman730 made to recap everything else HERE and HERE. They cover the Draft, all UFA and RFA signings, Trades and Final Depth Charts. Also, you can check out the subreddit HEREI have just posted individual team recaps to each team's subreddit, complete with all the transactions as well as the final 23 man rosters, so feel free to check out the ones you are interested in seeing.Quick Link to each thread here: LinksPlease be respectful if you choose to comment in other teams' subreddits.A Trade List/Summary can be found HERE -- Credit to /u/marino19 for compiling the trades.2019 NHL Draft Round 1PickTeamPlayerPosition1 New Jersey DevilsJack HughesC2 New York RangersKaapo KakkoRW3 Chicago BlackhawksAlex TurcotteC4 Colorado AvalancheKirby DachC/RW5 Los Angeles KingsBowen ByramLD6 Vegas Golden KnightsCole CaufieldRW7 Anaheim DucksDylan CozensC8 Edmonton OilersVasili PodkolzinRW9 Buffalo SabresMatthew BoldyLW10 Vancouver CanucksTrevor ZegrasC11 Minnesota WildPeyton KrebsC12 Minnesota WildPhilip BrobergLD13 Florida PanthersSpencer KnightG14 Arizona CoyotesAlex NewhookC15 Boston BruinsArthur KaliyevRW16 Colorado AvalancheNolan FooteLW17 Detroit Red WingsVictor SoderstromRD18 Dallas StarsCam YorkLD19 Ottawa SenatorsMoritz SeiderRD20 New York RangersRyan SuzukiC21 Los Angeles KingsPhillip TomasinoC22 Los Angeles KingsThomas HarleyLD23 New York IslandersRaphael LavoieLW/RW24 Nashville PredatorsVille HeinolaLD25 Washington CapitalsSamuel PoulinC/LW26 Calgary FlamesBobby BrinkC/RW27 New Jersey DevilsAlex VlasicLD28 Carolina HurricanesConnor McMichaelC/LW29 Anaheim DucksLassi ThomsonRD30 Boston BruinsBrett LeasonRW31 Detroit Red WingsMads SogaardG2019 Notable RFA SigningsTeamPlayerCap HitYearsDetailsARI Lawson Crouse$2,450,0003BOS Charlie McAvoy$7,000,0008BOS Brandon Carlo$4,400,0006BOS Danton Heinen$2,500,0002BUF Jake McCabe$3,800,0004BUF Evan Rodrigues$2,500,0003CGY Matthew Tkachuk$7,900,000720 Team M-NTC (2023-2026)CGY David Rittich$2,750,0002CGY Sam Bennett$2,550,0002CAR Sebastian Aho$9,500,000820 team M-NTC (2023-24), Full NMC (2024-2027)CAR Brock McGinn$2,200,0002CHI Ryan Murray$4,300,0003CHI André Burakovsky$3,250,0001COL Mikko Rantanen$9,000,000820 team M-NTC (2023-25), 25 team M-NTC (2025-2027)COL J.T. GARAND AND WOLF PACK ELIMINATE CHECKERS IN 3
By: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack CHARLOTTE, NC – Dylan Garand made a playoff career-high 39 saves on Sunday afternoon to help the Hartford Wolf Pack complete their First Round series victory over the Charlotte Checkers. The Wolf Pack used a five-on-five, powerplay, and shorthanded goal to win Game 3 3-1, advancing to the Atlantic Division Semifinals for the second consecutive season. Just 2:39 into the third period, Mike Benning was whistled for tripping, giving the Wolf Pack their fourth powerplay of the game. The Pack connected for the third time in the series, ballooning their lead to 2-0. Brett Berard sent a backdoor pass to Riley Nash, who settled the puck and tapped home a backhander for his second goal of the Calder Cup Playoffs at 4:21. The goal would stand as the game-winner and series-winner. The Wolf Pack jumped out to a first-period lead with the icebreaker for the second time in the series. Mac Hollowell found Jaroslav Chmelař just outside the Charlotte zone, hitting the young forward with a pass. Chmelař entered the zone and danced around Skyler Brind'Amour, who blew a tire. Chmelař then cut to the goal and snapped home his first career Calder Cup Playoff goal at 10:10 of the first period. Garand was tested late in the period when the Checkers were awarded the game's first powerplay. At 17:24, Anton Blidh flipped the puck over the glass and out of play, taking a delay-of-game penalty. Garand and the penalty kill stood tall, pushing the game to the intermission with the Pack still ahead. The netminder made twelve saves in the opening stanza. Garand also stood firm in the second period, making 15 saves to keep the Wolf Pack ahead through 40 minutes. Garand's best save of the period came during a stretch of four-on-four play when Casey Fitzgerald was teed up for a one-timer from the slot. Garand kicked the bid away with his right pad, keeping it 1-0 for the Wolf Pack. Nash's goal early in the third period gave the Wolf Pack a 2-0 lead and the necessary offense to complete their series comeback. Jake Leschyshyn was whistled for holding the stick at 13:39, giving the Checkers a late powerplay look to draw back into the game. Berard extinguished the hopes at 14:52, making it 3-0 with the first goal of his Calder Cup Playoff career. Berard took a pass from Nash and rushed shorthanded into the offensive zone on the right-wing side. Berard used his speed to create a breakaway before snapping a shot by Hellberg. The Checkers quickly responded on the powerplay, however, as Brendan Perlini snapped home his first goal of the postseason from the left-wing circle at 15:37. The Checkers pressed hard in the final moments with the goaltender pulled but could not solve Garand. With the victory, the Wolf Pack advance to the Atlantic Division Semifinals, where they will take on the Providence Bruins in a best-of-five series. Great Britain fall just short against United States at ice hockey World Championship
Great Britain suffered a. Great Britain suffered a. Great Britain suffered a. Team GB will take away many positive things from the American superstar defeat proving that Britain can compete at this level of ice hockey
By Paul Newman for MailOnline
18:01 BST, May 15, 2019 | For the eleven scorelines it just doesn't matter. This was a brilliant, heroic performance by Great Britain & # 39; s World Championships minnows against American superstars.
The US may have won 6-3 here, but that's not the story. GB, so desperately disappointing in Denmark's 9-0 losses on Tuesday, was so much better at giving a team consisting of some of the biggest names in the NHL a blast of a match.
Take a bow, then, Britain's first two scorers in Manchester's Mike Hammond and Nottingham's Brett Perlini and an excellent netminder in Ben Bowns that has so many new ones admirers deserve in this tournament that his club Cardiff has difficulty keeping him. Jack Hughes will remain in memory for a long time.

Great Britain set up a heroic display when they lost 6-3 to United States on Wednesday
But, more than anyone else also, bow Guildford's Ben Davies who became the first British-born and raised player to score at this level as opposed to dual citizens when he was an emphatic late third past USA retired Thatcher Demko
Really, this was a great all-round screen from a British side who knew they had let themselves be slapped against the Danish team that one of their more realis chances in this elite group to achieve that most important victory at the highest level.
GB would never be that of an American team with perhaps the most star-studded selection of even Canada here in Slovakia and leader of one of the biggest names in the Chicago Kandan game.

But what they did was show the ice hockey world their narrow defeat of Germany in their opening match was not cursing and they can really compete at this higher level. From outside Britain threatened the US.
The US threatened from Great Britain. target and Hammond, Perlini and Ben O & Connor all went close before the US needed a man benefit and a power-play for James van Riemsdyk to force his way past Bowns.

GB had only scored one goal in their first three games – Hammond against Germany – but they earned their equalizer when the Manchester man earned an ovation from not only the British fans, but also the home defenders with the equalizer.
For nearly 15 glorious minutes, GB enjoyed a resemblance to a team that took home more than $ 60 million in wages between them this season, with Kane being particularly muscled from the game by the determined efforts of the British defense. . ]
It took her power-play goal for the US to finally take the lead by Clayton Keller and when Chris Kreider and Alex DeBrincat extended the advantage of the United States, Britain could have been forgiven for it crumble

Instead, they just kept coming and he came back scoringly near Perlini, the Brother of Chicago & Brandon's, the second 15 seconds before the end of the second period England hit.
It was not until the final period that Britain began to fade, with Kane finally managing to the score form to come and add Derek Ryan sixth before Davies gloriously provided the highlight of the night for GB by destroying the third at home.
Doesn't matter. Britain must face Finland and Slovakia on Friday and Saturday, but their chances of staying at this low level will lead them to beat the French. And if they play, they will have every opportunity.

Top 300 Keeper League Skaters – April 2019
Here are the Top 300 skaters to own in your points-only keeper leagues – April edition!
As with every year for the last 17 years, my April, May and June adjustments are casual. The July and August editions are my "audit" rankings because, thanks to the Fantasy Guide, every detail of every player within every team is analyzed top to bottom. April? Not so much. I go over every player on my spreadsheet and wipe the slate clean for the season just completed, and I make my best guess – no formulas – at how they will do next year. I tweak the 3YP, I adjust the team offense value (i.e. for Columbus I tweaked it downward because I expect them to lose a lot of offense this summer).
What's left is that the young players improve, the older players slip. The injured players get a clean slate and move up, the over-achievers of 2018-19 move down. The late-season surges of some promising young players get a bit of a bump. Doing the April rankings are always a lot of fun. My goal is to do my best to get these as close to what I come up with in August after extensive analysis as I can. The players I'm 'way' off on I take it hard. I want to be a savant with this – I want spew out an accurate player value without doing the work (and then prove myself right after doing the work in the summer).
As always, players between +/- 5.0 in the ratings should be considered equal. Click on any player name to be taken to his incredible stats page (with charts, game logs, graphs, fancy stats – everything you need, even customizable date windows you can look at).
