The Banned Books Club: A Novel by Brenda Novak

Well written and engaging, I enjoyed my reading of this and I wanted to learn more about Gia and Margot. It held my interest and I read this, curious to find out more about both women. 

Written in a concise style (though requiring a greater than usual suspension of disbelief in parts and a somewhat rushed ending, imo), it had no trouble keeping my interest. The characters come across realistically and I appreciated the author’s bringing banned books into the story enough to be part of the title.

Dopo tanto sentito parlare di questo libro, finalmente lo leggo anch'io insieme al mio #gruppolettura #alaska di #brendanovak inizia in modo decisamente scioccante 😯 parla subito del passato della protagonista, Evelyn, passato alquanto inquietante e traumatico. Ciò che sorprende è che dopo quello che ha passato, lei sia poi diventata una psichiatra che studia la mente dei #serialkiller Non le è bastato quello che ha subito, no, lei continua ad avere a che fare con uomini pericolosi, si immerge proprio nel suo lavoro! Lei, infatti, è psichiatra ad #hanoverhouse in Alaska, una prigione di psicopatici. If Jane Austen wrote her novels heavily dosed with the gothic, this would be one.  Loved Broody Darcy!

BOOK 36 of 2019: BEFORE WE WERE STRANGERS by Brenda Novak I’ve read several books by this author, in particular, her Hanover House series about a forensic psychiatrist in an Alaskan institute for the criminally insane. This book is not part of that series. BEFORE WE WERE STRANGERS is a light suspense novel which is mostly a romance. It’s a Lifetime movie-type formulaic story with family secrets, a return to a home town, a (predictable) whodunnit, and a lost love rekindled. The book is enjoyable and the characters are interesting (though the main character was the least interesting to me. The supporting characters are much more developed).
