It’s always fun to find a new (to me) author to read and even better when I love the book. But even extra great is when that author has a series...or three. I just finished “Her Last Day” by @trraganauthor and I loved it. I read it right through. It’s the first in her Jessie Cole series. Jessie Cole is a private investigator whose sister went missing a decade ago. The book covers her search for her sister, with journalist Ben, who has his own backstory of mystery and amnesia, plus the hunt for an extremely violent serial killer. Warning: there’s torture so if you can’t read that stuff, you might not like this. So far there are 3 Jessie Cole books and another you can pre-order. T. R. Ragan (who has romance novels under Theresa Ragan) has 2 more series: the Lizzy Gardner series and the Faith McMann trilogy that I’m starting now and I’m already hooked! 📚 #trragan #jessiecole #Books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/BstWQdSAN2C/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3kaiu1o6y2a9

Could you do a Johnny x Ash prompt cuz I love that ship so much and there's not much on it
I prefer more to focus on the family aspect, so I wrote this where it can be read as platonic or romantic. Enjoy!
Johnny didn’t care for Lance much. In fact, he didn’t care for Lance at all. The stories Ash would tell with a dull expression, as if the way Lance treated her was no big deal. Putting her down for her music, expecting her to clean up after him, belittling her, Ash made small, passing comments without any consideration or emotion to them.
So, no. Johnny did not care for Lance.
According to Ash, Lance was her first and only boyfriend. She went from living with her parents to living with him, dating him since high school. She never had another guy.
That’s why he was here, taking Ash out to a movie and dinner. Johnny insisted on paying for the movie and snacks and opened the door for her, he complimented her spikes and let her decide what they saw. Ash gave him some strange looks, but no comments.
Johnny offered his jacket as soon as they stepped out of the theatre in case she was cold (Johnny didn’t fault her for the suspicious look she had given him then. It was early summer, he shouldn’t have even been wearing his jacket). Ash, following the pattern of the movie, picked the restaurant and Johnny happily agreed.
He, again, hold the door for her and pulls her chair out before she sits. He takes his seat across the table. “Get anything you want, it’s on me.”
Ash eyes him curiously. “Okay, thanks.”
The waiter comes by and takes their drink orders, Ash a soft drink and Johnny a lemonade. Ash figures out what she wants first and waits for Johnny to set his own menu down.
“So, uh, Ash…” Johnny can’t remember the last time he was on a date. Oh wait, yes he does: never. What is he suppose to say? Her family seems like a touchy subject, he knows her musical past. What’s a good topic for them? He’s taking too long to continue, he has to think of something quick.
“Readanygoodbookslately?”
Ash chuckles and shakes her head. “Johnny, what are you doing.”
“Um, I’m waiting for the waiter to bring our drinks back?”
“No, what is this? All of this? The movie, the dinner, being so…nice.” Johnny hates that ‘nice’ seems to be an unfamiliar way to be treated for her. “What’s going on?”
Johnny swallows. He’s not sure how to answer that. “Did you ever do any of this with Lance?
Ash gives him a puzzled look. “Go out to eat? Ummm, no. Not really.”
“Well, you should have.” Johnny declared. “And he should have taken you to movies. And told you that you look pretty. He should have treated you better.”
The puzzled expression doesn’t leave. “You’re doing this…to get back at Lance?”
Johnny shook his head. “No, I’m doing this so you know how to be treated. So you know how a guy should treat you.”
“…Oh?”
Johnny feels his face heat up. “Lance didn’t treat you well and you don’t seem to have a problem with that. He should have been kinder to you, he was suppose to do nice things for you.”
“So because Lance didn’t do nice things for me, you are?”
Johnny paused. “Yes. So that you know how you should be treated in a relationship. I wanted to give you a higher standard than Lance did. It’s suppose to be like this, taking you out and doing things for you.”
Understanding crept onto Ash’s face. “Oh. Oh!” She meets his eyes with a small smile. “Johnny,” she says softly. “That’s so sweet of you.”
His face must be so red. “Well, you ought to know how to be properly treated. What it’s like to be on a real date with someone who cares about you.”
“I don’t think anyone has done anything this nice for me before.”
“Well that’s what I’m hoping to change.”
A sound from above them drew both of their attention. The waiter, who looks to have been standing there for a while, holds both of their drinks in his hands.
“Ah, thank you,” Johnny makes a mental note to leave a sizable tip.
“Are you ready to order?” They both nod. “Alright, what can I get for you?”
Johnny gestures for Ash to go first and she smiles at him. “Whatever you’d like.” He reminds her. “It’s on me.”

I always post what I'm eating but not so much what I'm reading. I just discovered author @abwrites Allison Brennan when I read "Speak No Evil." It was so good, suspenseful and everything I love in a mystery. Now I have to back to the beginning because she has written a kajillion books and that was the 4th. Now I'm reading her first, "The Prey" and then a kajillion to go. 📚📖 #authors #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #bibliophile

I just finished “Pieces of Her” by @karinslaughterauthor and WOW! What an incredible book. I’ve been a Slaughter fan since the beginning of her Sara Linton series but I also love her standalone books. This book is different than her past books in topic. It’s suspenseful, emotional and I could barely put it down to do anything else. Day 14 of my #10yearsmeatfree anniversary 🌱 I'm a reader. I read A LOT. I even married a librarian. I have lots of favorite fiction authors but some really annoy me sometimes. When a character in a book is vegan, they tend to be portrayed as such a stereotype. Not all vegans have pink hair, tattoos and practice crystal healing with their lesbian lovers in hippy towns. Vegans come in all shapes, sizes, political affiliations, religions and are from all over the world - and they are all great!! Secondly, stop with the insults the other characters fling at the vegan character and the fear of having to eat something vegan. It's not 1970. Characters don't need to react with fear at a meal that has no meat, they dont need to "cautiously" approach the meal like it will explode and be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't suck. Writing scenes like this in 2018 is outdated and tired. More and more people are vegan and the number of vegan eateries and food choices are exploding. Authors, let's step into the 21st century and leave the bigotry behind. Show more respect to your characters and your audiences. #Books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #bibliophile #amreading #Vegan #whatveganseat #vegansofig #foodporn #veganfoodporn #myfooddoesntscream #noanimalsharmed #chooselife #allbeingswanttolive #thevword #saythevword #idonteatanimals #anythingyoucanmakeicanmakevegan #noamimalwantstodie #youcantloveanimalsandeatthemtoo #animalrights

BOOKS 44 and 45 of 2019: FINDING CLAIRE FLETCHER and LOSING LEAH HOLLOWAY by @lisareganauthor I don’t know how I did it but back in February, I skipped my review of FUNDING CLAIRE FLETCHER. I just realized it after finishing the next book in the series and couldn’t find my review 🤦🏻‍♀️ So I’m sticking it in here now. FINDING CLAIRE FLETCHER is an amazing book. It’s about a woman who has been held captive by a brutal psychopath for over a decade. When she meets a detective at a bar, she gives him a clue about her captivity but will he figure it out and be able to rescue her? I really loved this book. The author did an amazing job of character development and explored the deep layers of captivity that not everyone understands. LOSING LEAH HOLLOWAY has the same detective working the case of the Soccer Mom Strangler while also exploring the case of a woman who drove her car, which held five children and herself, into the river. Both books are suspenseful and well-written. I hope the authors continues this series! #lisaregan #findingclairefletcher #losingleahholloway #Books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzj5QAnpFx1/?igshid=1mc97ge9f1lg0

BOOK 43 of 2018: DIRTY MONEY bY @denisegroverswank Dirty Money is the last book in the Neely Kate series which is part of the Rose Gardner series. As I’ve written before, the Rose Gardner series starts with TWENTY-EIGHT and a HALF WISHES and goes on for many books, novellas and bonus chapters generously given to readers by the author. When I read that book over five years ago I had no idea that I would love this series so much. It’s funny, suspenseful and always so emotional. Reading a book in this series by @denisegroverswank is like coming home to a place that’s familiar and that you love. Neely Kate, who is Rose’s bestie, has had her own emotional series and it all gets resolved in this great book. Definitely look into this series for love, crime, humor and smart storylines. #denisegroverswank #neelykate #rosegardnermysteries #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzj28yiJGfu/?igshid=5ovtpd4r8xpz

BOOK 42 of 2019: MY SISTER’S GRAVE by Robert Dugoni It’s funny how two people can have such different opinions. Hubby and I usually read and like the same books. He read this first and loved it - he asked if we had the 2nd in the series - so I was excited to read it. And it took me forever to get through. Seriously, I could have read 4 more books by now. It’s not a bad book. It’s a good plot about a detective who can’t let go of her sister’s disappearance twenty years ago. When they find her body, things presented at the trial that put a man away for her sister’s murder don’t add up and she investigated to find the truth. For me, it was slow reading though. Too many pages describing scenery and what people were wearing (I honestly started flipping through those pages) and not enough character development to really make me care about anyone but the dogs 🐶 Maybe the next in the series is better. I’d be willing to give it a shot. #robertdugoni #mysistersgrave #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/By54DBBpB-O/?igshid=1glzndlav615l

BOOK 41 OF 2019: RUN AWAY by Garlan Coben Who doesn’t love @harlancoben ? I couldn’t even tell you how many of his books I’ve read but it’s all of his standalones (not Myron series books). His books usually take place in Jersey and/or NY, they are fast-paced reads usually about some guy on a quest to figure out some personal mystery. The prose is fast and fun, the dialogue real and somewhat sarcastic. This book is about s father whose feud-addicted daughter goes missing. In his search for his daughter, he becomes embroiled in a mystery as men are being murdered. How is his daughter connected? It’s a good book with a few twists and a very likeable main character. My only criticisms: 1. I could have done without the vegan stereotypes (c’mon authors, it’s really getting old) and 2. Could we show the Bronx for something nicer than murders and drug dens? #harlancoben #runaway #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/ByhCYZbJQew/?igshid=h6wfpwl5bixe

BOOK 40 of 2019: CLOSER THAN YOU KNOW by Brad Parks This is my 2nd Brad Parks novel, the first being SAY NOTHING which was amazing. CLOSER THAN YOU KNOW is also a great story. It’s about Melanie who is a product of the foster care system and now has a family of her own. But one day her entire world falls apart when she is accused of crimes and her infant son is taken away and put into foster care. Melanie must try to prove her innocence even as the list of crimes she is accused of keeps growing. The prosecutor, meanwhile, is also trying to solve the case of a serial rapist, one of whose victims just happens to be Melanie. The book is well-written and suspenseful, definitely a page-turner that I finished quickly (and correctly guessed whodunit). #bradparks #closerthanyouknow #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/ByT9PxahV12/?igshid=8ovp3svim0n1

BOOK 39 of 2019: THE VANISHING SEASON by Dot Hutchinson Oh, my heart is heavy because this is the last book in Dot Hutchinson’s Collector Series. What an amazing series! Most of the books I read are crime mysteries, FBI or detective series, or psychological thrillers. This is also an FBI series but one like no other. Dot Hutchinson is a master storyteller who creates the most complex and deep characters, the best dialogue and the stories that are moving. Her books are so much more than the crimes and the road to solving them. Her books are about people - the agents, the victims, the families - and her development of the characters who are flawed, funny, and damaged is so real, it’s a bit disturbing. You become so invested in these characters that, well...you cry when you realize the series is over. Read this series!! Book 1: THE BUTTERFLY GARDEN Book 2: THE ROSES OF MAY Book 3: THE SUMMER CHILDREN Book 4: THE VANISHING SEASON Book 4 is about the search for a missing girl and how that leads to a larger search, one that impacts one of the agents. Please write more in this series, Dot Hutchinson #thevanishingseason #thecollectorseries #dothutchinson #fbimystery #books #whatimreading #readanygoodbookslately #readabook #ilovebooks #bookworm #bookstagram #fiction #mysterynovel #imarriedalibrarian #booklover #goodreads #bibliophile #amreading https://www.instagram.com/p/ByJtu-IJlmT/?igshid=1hznhl2x8nwh3
