The crimson sun was hiding behind the horizon, the orange sky was clear of clouds, and a light mist filled the cool, crisp afternoon air. The ground was covered with a blanket of colors, the barbecue-red leaves hanging silently on the trees surrounding the old mansion. The muffled winds deadened all sound in the forest, slowing the bellow bells of nocturnal animals like forgotten laughters slobbering beneath elderberries. There was still some fire in the oak leaves, but only barely. Noosed by coils of dragon breath, fog-tinted fairy trees stood alone in fields.
Weak pitter-patters could be heard, but they weren't for the rain. Someone was walking up the stairs. All alone on the rooftop was a man with eyes as gloomy as the sky, filled with damnation and saudade. The cataclysm was coming, he knew.
The breeze tousled his blonde hair, coercing his body forward as if urging him to jump, to take the leap and plunge to his death.
You won't regret it.
The intrusive thought lingered on the tip of his fuming cigarette as he tapped the ashes down.
He didn't know what was happening to him. There was something—a feeling—simmering inside of him. Something he didn't dare to approach, something he didn't want to acknowledge. Banging on the doors of his heart, begging to be let out, it clawed at the cage he had trapped it in.
Every day.
Every fucking day felt like reliving the same nightmare. Falling apart, he would open his mouth to shout, fight, and swing his fists, but his vocal cords were cut, and his shoulders were heavy and weighed down by his sins. He was caught, and it was killing him.
Maybe there was no hope for him anymore.
He was tired. He was tired. He was tired. He was tired. He was tired. He was tired. He was tired. So tired and angry.
Staring at his feet, hands, and this thin rooftop ledge, he wanted to scream. He wanted to run. He wanted to fall to his knees. He wanted to curse the world for cursing him, torturing him, and taking away the only good thing he ever had.
For quite some time now, he'd accepted that the only way out of this sleepless nightmare was to take a step forward. It would only take one more step for all problems to be solved. That was all. Yet somehow, he felt like crashing into rough stone pavement would not leave a pleasant sight, to say the least. Also, what if he didn't die right away? What if he miraculously survived the fall and was forced to lie there, bloodied and broken, waiting for his body to give out finally? Or what if his body refused to give out, and he had to live the rest of his life as a plant?
All regrettable.
Staring far away, he stroked the glowing stick with his thumb. The warmth in the air during the last month had either evaporated into the sky or leached into the earth. Well. It wasn't just the weather. There had been a lot of change since last month. He had lost a lot. A few pairs of clothes, a bottle of Bride wine, and some blue pockets of Skulls cigarettes were all he had now—his beloved's heritage.
His hands trembled slightly, followed by lips pressing together. Closed his eyes, he breathed in the scent of soil and dew, hoping to swallow down the vicious lump forming in his throat.
Stop thinking about him, Vash.
But the smoke of this cigar was all he needed to get transported back to when Nico was still breathing and smiling with a stupid strawberry lollipop stuck in his mouth. Huh! If Nic saw him smoking, what would he say? Especially since he was a pain in the black-haired man's ass to quit smoking.
So eager to die, Needle Noggin? Y'know there are faster ways. C'mon, take a step and meet me in hell. Easy peasy. Don't you miss me?
With a hint of a smile that didn't reach his eyes, a blank stare seeped into his face like a vat of acid. Raising his hand, he slipped the cigarette between his soft lips, longing for the lost bittersweet kisses.
His whiskey brown eyes, peeking at him with the sunrise. His blessed smiles, gifting him butterflies. His smooth skin, touching his body like a sin. His cinnamon smell, filling his nostrils well. His big feet, touching him under the sheet. His warm hands, conquering his body's lands. His pounding heart, feeling like a fine art. His endless desire, burning him like a wildfire. His tender touch, feeling like a fine Scotch. His cocky smirk, making him the biggest jerk. His rigid muscles, giving him rough hustles. His soft hair, becoming his fingers' lair. His overwhelmed sweats, pounding him for sets. His shy groans, getting lost in his loud moans. His spit on his hole, kisses around his mole. His throbbing length, taking away his strength. His whispers in his ear, shooing away his fear. His peace in his arms, pushing away all of the harms. His never-ending need, revealing his hidden deed. His endless meekness, turning into his greatest weakness. His prayer as a song, driving away every wrong. His peaceful dreams, hiding his painful screams. His contagious laughter, calling down every disaster. His goofy attitude, giving him latitude. His eye-blinding light, forcing his soul to ignite.
The tip of the cig was glowing, smoke getting in his eyes, but he couldn't care less. Having Nic's scent faded from his clothes, this coffin nail was all left to feel him around.
Fuck!
He swallowed down what he knew would kill him, but wasn't this a part of the torture of being left on earth when another was gone?
In this steady thrum that accompanied quiet, his mind was unkind to him. He thought too much. He felt, perhaps, far more than he should. To push these memories away, he clenched his fists until he felt pain. There was no point in remembering. He didn't want to think about those things anymore. He wanted to outrun his mind, his memories.
It was like his face was pressed up against a glass, watching a scene from far off, wishing and wanting to be a part of something he knew he'd never be able to experience again. He forgot sometimes, that there were people out there who still managed to smile every day, despite everything. Who knows, maybe they hadn't lost their anchor yet.
Sucking in a rush of air, he brought his hand to the base of his throat. It wasn't gloom at all in his expression. It was despair. It was the agony.
This must be what they meant by misery. He thought he was familiar with it. He thought he knew, with perfect clarity, what it felt like to be in pain, but now he finally understood.
Everything that happened before was child's play.
But this. This was suffering. This was pure, unadulterated torture. It felt like a truck had run over him, breaking every bone in his chest, and now he was stuck here, the weight of losing Nicholas crushing his lungs. Luckily, he knew who was to blame, which thrilled him to have a target to direct his anger.
He took a step back. It wasn't the right time to act all crazy. Not now. Not until he avenged his Nick's murder.
Taking a long drag, he gambled with the hope of getting numb as his shining gloomy eyes watched the fumes slowly drifting away, leaving a cloud of gray.
He was snapped out of his musings when he heard a throat clear.
"Boss?"
Ah! This voice. Vash didn't need to turn his head to recognize the man whose mere existence was enough to drain every last ounce of will to live from him. The brown nose of his brother, Legato Blusummers. He and his light blue, thinning hair matted on his forehead from sweat with a silver-colored shirt too loose on him.
Legato's eyes bounced between Vash and the edge of the rooftop he was standing on, emanating nervous energy yet with a disgusting type of delight. As far as this sewer rat was concerned, only one thing was standing between him and earning some value in the eyes of his master: this blond man, the little brother of Knives.
How pitiful.
Vash let out a sigh, not bothering to move, and let Legato be joyous with the thought of his brain splashing on the ground as he fell. After all, even this pathetic creature deserved a little pleasure in his miserable existence, didn't he?
The smoke burning its way out from his throat to his nostrils forced him to reconsider his choices.
As a kid, Rem forbade him from going near the ledge. It was, however, his favorite spot in the manor. The view was breathtaking, especially when the sun was about to set, and crows flew by the clouds. Soon, he recalled how he and Nic would sit here and drink whiskey on starry nights. Funny how motherfucker used to light a cigarette with another as if his life depended on it, only to make the sheets smell like ashtrays.
Well. Not anymore.
Dark shadows were casting over this lonely piece of land. He was standing one foot away from danger, life, and death, separated by a cemented ledge. Soon, it would disappear in the darkness of the night, and if he weren't careful, he would too.
Vash glanced over his shoulder at the man before the roof entrance. Seeing his expression through the smoke was hard, but Legato notched the disgust. "My household is off-limits to you," he seethed his teeth. "Scram, runt! Or I'm gonna knock you off the edge," he spoke in a cold, indifferent tone, even though he knew this would probably be a favor to this varmint.
Legato cowered a step back. His experience around the twins had taught him that they would never make empty promises, but he was ordered here to fulfill a purpose. He was a messenger. "Are you okay, Vash-sama?" Legato blurted out the words almost quietly. "You're still wearing black."
The last rays of the sun were setting in Vash's small golden earring, only to be absorbed by the tattoos adorning his neck. The corners of his mouth curled in distaste as he blew a puff of smoke out of his nose. A predatory gleam glinted in his eyes, a wicked smirk on his lips.
"No way!" he scorned. "You've got eyes like an eagle."
Irked by how this lowly human was taking his time, he patiently folded up his sleeves, cracking his neck in the meantime. "What is it? Need something from me?" he grumbled, growing increasingly annoyed. "Spit it out."
"I've got good news for you," Legato responded shortly, so sure and full of himself.
An expression of confusion washed over Vash's face for a moment, then a look of apathy replaced it. "If this is some foolish attempt at getting my attention, then I'd suggest you cut it out right now, boy," he said, releasing a tired sigh. "And don't get it twisted. I'm in no way interested in your news."
The breeze blew hard, swirling around them and stirring up their hair. Ashes flew with the wind, his seafoam eyes watching their successful escape. How lucky. A few locks of his hair fell over his eyes, and he flicked them away, taking a final inhale from his cigarette before crushing it with the sole of his boot.
Why was this dimwit still here? He needed to learn his place, and soon. Because the longer this went on, the more likely it was for Vash to have to "teach" him a lesson with the back of his hand.
The thoughts of finger-cutting and nail-pulling were almost causing his fists to ball up, but he took a deep breath and held it, counting to ten to clear his mind. He was so damn tired to deal with Legato right now. He could swear that if the man had a brain, it'd have left through the moron's ear by now. Ugh.
Seeing Legato trying to speak again, he put a hand up to silence him. "And now you're starting to bore—"
"The cargo is here," Legato said. "The one you told your men to bring."
Vash's heart stopped for five seconds before kicking into high gear and climbing up his throat. A flock of pigeons nearby were sent flying when he turned and unsheathed his signature .45 Long Colt so fast. The gun was aimed at Bluesummers, his forefinger on the trigger.
Looking around, it took Legato a moment to process the scene before him, and when he did, his golden-brown eyes widened into saucers. Seeing the intensity in Vash's eyes, he immediately halted and put up his hands, hoping to show his surrender and prevent him from making impulsive decisions. What else did he expect when he revealed something he shouldn't have known? "S-Sir," he muttered, his body trembling, his fingers digging into his palms.
With his gun still pointed at the scared man's head, Vash walked closer to him until he was just a few inches away. He grabbed him by the collar and raised the jacket right next to his throat, sneering down at him. "HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT THIS? WHO TOLD YOU?" he demanded, his voice dripping with anger as he took another step toward Legato and got right up in his face. "Who do you think you're spying on me?" He gritted his teeth.
Legato looked at him, his heart lodging in his throat when he saw Vash cocked the hammer on his gun, a clear indication that he meant serious business right now. At this moment, all he felt was terror. "N-n-no," he hardly mumbled. "Master Knives…He ordered me to inform you."
"WHAT?" Vash's pulse raced, and he breathed heavily, almost as if he were about to burst.
The poor man's shoulders were shaking. "Master took the cargo in before your men since he cared for your wellbeing. He said he would gift wrap it to surprise—" He didn't dare to look the Don in the eye. His face was white with fear, his hands trembling visibly, attempting to cover his face with them. It was clear that he was utterly terrified of Vash. And with good reason, too. It was well-known what this spiky-haired man could do when he was mad.
"I don't give a damn what my brother said!" Vash snapped, each word filled with rage and venom. He placed the tip of the gun against Legato's chin. "How this happened?" His muscles tensed, and he cracked his knuckles, his blood boiling. Money-hungry mercenaries. Indeed his brother had filled their pockets as their scales had leaned toward the heavier side.
This didn't come as a surprise. A million reasons made him hate Kni, but the cherry on top was when Nicholas D. Wolfwood was murdered. It had been more than four weeks since they found out about it. Both knew the culprit. Gasback's men killed Nick for crossing some lines he wasn't supposed to, and not only did they not return his body to be buried, but they kept all of his belongings, even his glasses and fucking lighter.
He wasn't allowed to lay a finger on Gasback since the war between the two Mafia families would weaken both of them against their rivals. And certainly, Kni wasn't willing to take such a risk just because someone had taken away his little brother's favorite doll. Fucker!
He probably would have spilled his twin's blood if they weren't brothers, but when you're stuck in the mud, family, and blood relatives are all you have.
Of course, Vash had no intention of stepping back. Despite unwritten rules prohibiting him from skinning Gasback alive and playing with his bones until he begged to die, no button man had ever followed them. That dirty thief would pay for what he'd taken away from him, so he definitely needed this cargo safe and untouched.
What a pain! This whole situation appeared to require his own ways. Crossing him had to be punished, but this was a problem for another to solve. Seeing Legato's lips move, his eyes narrowed.
"Bitch was walking toward her car in the parking—"
Legato's sentence was interrupted by a fist landing on his mouth, causing him to stumble a few steps back. "Call my cargo that again and you won't live long enough to take another breath!" He fought back the urge to pull the trigger and rip this man to shreds right here and now. "You would do well to watch your tongue in my presence," he growled at him. Somehow scaring the shit out of this man was bringing some kind of peace to him.
Because here, in the dark corners of his mind, he felt a strange relief. He was always welcome here, in his loneliness, in his sadness. In this abyss, there was a rhythm he remembered. This is what anguish does to some people. When others suffer too, they don't feel alone - Vash's new philosophy.
He guessed he had been this way all along, because you can't just grow up with Kni and not find pleasure in tormenting others. Good thing they were living in separate wings of the mansion now and only met each other to finish dirty work. Better this way. However, it shouldn't be misunderstood. There was no good or bad between the Saverem twins. They were like solar and lunar eclipses. Neither brought light, only darkness.
Legato watched as Vash closed the gap between them, his nose bleeding on his pale lips. The gunman's grip was tightened on the pistol, a snarl on his face, his eyes stabbing daggers.
Vash stood too close to him, breathing down into his ear. He placed a hand on the bleeding man's shoulder, the other pressing the nuzzle of his colt on the spot his little dick must be hiding. "Where is the girl?" he hissed in a low voice. "Tell. Me. Now." He shoved Legato to the ground, making this waste of space kneel before him.
"Master keeps her in the dungeon," Legato responded, gasping as if someone had strangled his throat.
Vash paused momentarily, but those words set him off like a bomb. Having been in that dungeon before, he knew what it meant. Growling in rage, he kicked Legato in the face with his knee. Then he lowered his face to his greasy hair, a sinister smirk appearing on his lips. "You're lucky it's not a bullet going inside that hollow head of yours, runt!" His back straightened as he landed another kick in the crotch.
White, hot rage.
It was all he knew now. From where he stood, the world seemed so black and white, so easy to demolish and destroy. This new anger. It was so raw, so potent, actually calming as if that wild feeling had finally found its place. Having stopped ripping out his gut, the monster in him sat comfortably in his bones, a powerful desire that he thought might consume him.
He was a monster.
He could do anything.
Anything.
And first things first, he was going to accept his dear brother's invitation. It would be rude not to attend the party, wouldn't it? He had to visit Kni personally and express his gratitude. It may be the time for Kni to learn the lesson he failed to grasp the first time.
Do. Not. Touch. My. Stuff.
This girl was his. She belonged to him. Skin to the bone, his revenge leverage, and no one else would get their hands on his toy. No one. This time, Kni and his goons made a grave mistake.
Turning back the gun in its holster, Vash approached the door, making his way to the dungeon—the playroom.

In honor of @laylaylamode and @thereallordgrape ‘s challenge, here’s my writing prompt for Day 28!
(Sorry I'm late. Didn't have any motivation to do any of these prompts until now.)
For Oswald, I'd say there's a fair amount of people he doesn't really vibe with. Hody for obvious reasons. But he also has a hard time getting along with some of his fellow captains & lieutenants in the Queensguard aside from Fum, Corona, Vincenza, & Morel. He has mixed feelings towards Breeze because of her being the most skeptical of him, Is a little unnerved by Sirius because of his quirks, & tends to have a bit of a hard time getting along with Lenora (Although I think they would get along a little better than Lenora does with Astro & Morel atm.). Puff & Fink are a bit of a hard case to describe for him. Since he doesn't really interact as much with either of them outside of their meetings.
In terms of his relationship with members of his division, there are a lot of members that he has difficulty connecting to outside of Aspen (His childhood friend) & Brooke (The only other member of the division who was nice to him & respected him as his captain.). As well as some other key characters that I haven't introduced yet. But I'd say the biggest case is his relationship with his cousin Ivan.

They use to be super close as kids. And Ivan even considered Oswald to be like a little brother to him at some point. But as the two of them got older, things started to go astray. And certain moments started to drive a wedge between them. (I'd go on. But I want to save most of these details for future Oswald The spy chapters. So ya'll are just gonna have to wait until more chapters come up for that tea to be spilled.)
Anywho, that's all I got for tonight. I'll admit, these are pretty fun to do. I think I might try writing out the next two (And maybe one of the previous ones as well.).

Peace In Our Time
I wrote a thing! Bet you didn’t see that coming, huh?
Anyway, here’s a story that was written with the prompt of having a theme of ‘Obsession’ over on the Star subreddit. Not sure I made the theme obvious enough, but I think it turned out pretty well either way given the circumstances.

My Dearest Comet,
The Monsters have grown bold in their latest offensive. Though they are of course ultimately no threat to our Kingdom, they have wreaked havoc across the countryside, burning Mewman towns and villages in their wake. The destruction, I am sad to say, has been absolute-only three moons ago, the hamlet of Grimlet was burned to the ground in a nighttime raid. Those who survived were…
Well, I’ll spare you the details.
Though our troops are tired and weary from the long campaign, their spirits burn with a fire to extract vengeance on the monsters for their crimes. Captain Anderson’s battalion has been especially vigilant-under his watchful eye, not a single hovel has escaped the justice of the Butterfly Throne, and not even the little ones have been spared from having to answer for the atrocities of their crimes.
With luck, this war may soon be at an end. We have received information from captured monsters that Baron Vongard seeks a peace treaty, which is a sure sign that their will to fight may soon be broken. By the grace of your throne, this realm may finally be cleansed of this scourge that has haunted us since its founding-and I aim to be the one to do so in your name.
Just yesterday, my men received word that the monsters have horded a cache of weapons and supplies near Horncaller Gulch. I am to take my best men with me to wipe out this center of resistance personally, as a final victory to our long campaign. I plan to come home not long after, to provide a report on our success in person.
I long to see you again, my Queen. These long years of fighting have been hard on us all, and when I look into Moon’s eyes I see she barely recognizes me. My devotion to the throne, and you, remain as strong as ever-but I will allow myself to admit that I can see peace on the horizon at last, and I welcome it.
With luck, this letter shall reach you not long before I do. As always, you have my eternal devotion-and my heart along with it.

King Leopold Rubicon Butterfly
Her hands trembling, Comet Butterfly, Queen of Mewni, set the blood-stained and torn letter down on the desk in front of her.
“This was… all you could find?” she asked, struggling to keep her voice even.
The tired soldier beside her nodded, looking down at the floor. “I’m afraid so, Ma’am. Only one man made it out of the ambush, and he died not long after he delivered the letter. No one else has even been able to get close to the gulch, damn monsters have made the place practically impregnable. Wouldn’t do much good, anyway-we all know what they do with the bodies.”
A rash of anger overcame the soldier and he banged his fist against the desk, the stained oak cracking against the worn and battered armor. “They say it was the Lizard that planned it. That bastard’s killed some of the finest men this kingdom has ever seen.” He raised his arms and clutched his fist. “If we could just track him down, I’d-“
The soldier stopped and took a breath, lowering his arm. “I’m sorry, Ma’am. King Leo was the best of us. I can’t imagine…”
There was a brief pause as the words sank into the air. The soldier raised his gauntlet over the queen’s shoulder, but awkwardly held the dirt-encrusted steel just above the silken ruffle of her dress. “I… should go.”
Comet clutched her hands together and looked down at the surface of the desk. “That would be best, Captain. Thank you for everything you’ve done.”
Captain Anderson saluted crisply and walked out of the room, leaving Comet alone in the candlelit study. The second the door closed, the queen let out a deep, heaving sob, and clutched the letter to her chest.
They had always known this was a possibility. Leo was a man of many qualities, and fear was not one of them. Whenever possible he would lead his men from the front, refusing to send them into any danger he himself would not face. It was bold, it was courageous, and, as she had told him so many times, it was stupid.
Now, he was gone.
Steeling herself, Comet gently placed the King’s last letter down on the desk, and stood up. Her grief could wait. The Kingdom needed their Queen-and she only had one thing on her mind.

“Peace? Peace?” Captain Anderson shouted. “Are you serious?”
The war room fell into a hush as every eye turned to the queen. Comet, rather than being cowed by the veteran soldier’s remarks, instead stared down the armored guardsman.
“Yes, Anderson. Peace.” she said firmly. “My family has fought the monsters for as long as there has been a Butterfly family. And what do we have to show for it? Our corn is still burned. Our people are still slaughtered in their beds. The monsters still fight us at every turn, and our sons and daughters, our wives and husbands-“ she paused briefly and stoically refused to display any of the anguish she felt across her face-“fight, and die, month after month, year after year.”
She looked across the room, staring every member of the war council in the eye. “War is all we know, and it has brought us nothing but ruin. Why not try peace?”
“That’s dangerous talk, Queen Comet,” said the woman sitting near the opposite head of the table, the flame above her head crackling gently. “How can we know the monsters are willing to bargain in good faith? For all we know, we’ll sign a peace treaty, and six months from now we’ll be facing the same problems of monsters raiding villages and burning crops.”
“Then it will be six more months of peace than this Kingdom has ever known, Heckapoo,” Comet replied. “You of all people should know that.”
“Loathe as I am to agree with a member of the High Commission, I’m with Heckapoo,” a large man wrapped in a bearskin chimed in. “We Johansons have been fighting monsters for nearly as long as you Butterflies have, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned it’s that you can’t trust ‘em.”
He snorted. “Besides, I doubt you could teach one of those bastards how to hold a pen long enough to stick it to the paper anyway.”

“No, River, you may not,” the man said firmly. “As I was saying, the long and the short of it is, you can do whatever you want, Queen. But the second your back is turned, the monsters will stay you in the back. But don’t worry,” he said, sporting a vile grin, “When they do, we Johansons will be there to cut them through the throat.”
Comet grimaced. “Thank you for that… vivid description, Knoll,” she said diplomatically. “But my mind is made up-and frankly, it’s something I had been considering even before this most recent tragedy. If there is to be an end to the fighting, it must be done through the pen, and not the sword.”
As Comet stood, there was an uncomfortable murmuring across the room. Captain Anderson attempted to step forward, but was deterred as the queen held up her hand.
“Anderson, I thank you for your service to the crown, and to Leopold,” she said, “But I assure you, there is nothing you can say that will convince me otherwise.”
“I… understand,” the soldier said, and sighed. “I just hope you realize what you’re getting us into, Queen Comet.”
The queen solemnly nodded, and left the room. The meeting was over.

“It’s a trap,” Captain Anderson said, handing the parchment back to Comet. “Even if I were of the negotiatin’ inclination, we’ve captured enough orders from the Baron for me to know that ain’t his writing. We’re being set up.”
“By who, Anderson?” Comet snapped back, annoyed. “Your lust for war is blinding you to the best chance for peace we’ve had in generations. This message came through official channels, and was verified by the Royal Monster Expert. My husband himself said that Vongard sought peace, did he not?”
“Yes, my queen,” Anderson said evenly, “But I’m not sure you’re seeing the situation clearly. What you need is-“
“What I need right now is a bodyguard, Anderson,” Comet said, glaring. “Nothing more.”
Anderson opened his mouth to protest, but instead leaned back in the rocking carriage and glared at Comet with his one good eye. Comet, for her part, folded the letter and placed it in her pocket before looking out the window of the carriage, watching the scenery go by.
At last, the carriage stopped, and Comet and Anderson exited. Before them, the hulking ruin of an ancient castle loomed over the surrounding forest, and Comet unintentionally shivered as a cold breeze flowed past.
“Plateau Garden,” Anderson grumbled. “Last I heard, there’s still an active Tramorfidian crystal in there, can’t portal in or out. Hell of a place for an ambush.”
Comet glared at Anderson, and looked back at the carriage behind hers. Several more mewman soldiers and Knoll Johanson were exiting, and at the sight of Queen Comet the soldiers turned and saluted.
“We’re ready to go when you are, Ma’am,” the soldier at the head of the formation said. “Just lead the way.”
Comet looked at Knoll. “And what about you?”
The leader of the Johanson clan chuckled. “Me, in a diplomatic negotiation? Think I’ll stick with the original plan and guard the carriages. Call me in if you need something smashed.”
Comet nodded, and jerked her head at the soldiers. They quickly lined up in parade formation, and marched towards the large, rotted wooden door at the entrance to the castle. With more than a little exertion, they pulled it open to reveal a dark and damp chamber within.
Cautiously, Comet moved through the entrance of the castle, her eyes peeled for anything suspicious. Faded faces in ruined portraits lining the walls of the entrance hall stared back, but otherwise the immediate entrance appeared utterly lifeless.
“They must be further inside,” Comet said, frowning. “Anderson, have the guards deploy at the door and down the hall. If this is a trap, I don’t want us to be surprised.”
The Captain nodded, and began pointing to individual troops. The tight formation quickly dispersed into pairs of soldiers, each taking defensive positions down the hall as Comet walked through the damp corridor.
As the throne room came into view, Comet visibly relaxed. Standing in the middle of the chamber was the unmistakable form of Baron Vongard, surrounded by a small cluster of monsters with shields and spears. At the sight of Comet, the guards tensed up and began to raise their weapons, only for Vongard to wave them off.
“Queen Comet,” the monster leader said, “I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised, given your invitation, but I’m so glad you came!”
Comet chuckled nervously as she approached the large, green-furred monster, Anderson at her side. “Consider the feeling mutual, Vongard. But with both of us here, this is certainly an historic occasion!”
As Comet and Vongard continued to exchange pleasantries, Anderson looked around the room. A handful of monsters stood against the wall behind Vongard, though none of them were heavily armed, and certainly nothing Anderson couldn’t deal with by himself-let alone with the Queen. For a moment, he almost allowed himself to relax… until he saw the Lizard.
Few Mewmans had ever seen the Lizard and survived. Anderson was one of them, and the encounter had cost him fifteen men and his right eye. And as he recognized the Septarian leaning against the far wall, Anderson’s heart sank.
For his part, the Lizard caught Anderson’s eye, and grinned.
His heart pounding in his chest, Anderson turned to face the queen. “Queen Comet, we need to go. Now.”
Both Comet and Vongard turned to him, confused. “Uh, Captain,” Vongard began, “Pardon me for asking, but is there something wrong?”
“Aaagghh!”
All three stopped and turned towards the sound of the guttural scream. Before their horrified eyes, they saw a mewman soldier fall to the floor, his throat slit, with a grinning serpentine monster behind them. Twisting his head back, Anderson tried to look back at the Lizard, and saw the Septarian was already gone.
“Wha-what’s going on?” Vongard stammered, stepping backwards with his hands in the air. Another scream filled the room, and Anderson saw another guard fell dead-only this time, it was one of Vongard’s monsters.
Cursing loudly, Anderson drew his sword, trying to find the next assassin. Beside him, Comet reached down into the folds of her dress for her wand, only to grasp air.
“Of course,” she hissed, “Moon just-“
She stopped suddenly, and her face froze in a state of shock. As Anderson turned around, he saw with horror as the queen of Mewni fell to the ground, a dagger sticking out of her back.
“No!” Anderson shouted, and lunched forward to catch the queen. Just as his fingers caught her falling arm, a massive blow hit him in the side and lifted him off his feet. A second later, the Captain slammed into the stone wall of the chamber, and he crumpled to the floor. Tasting blood, Anderson painfully looked up and saw the Lizard marching towards him, his eyes narrowed.
“Captain Anderson,” he said flatly. “We meet again.”
“General, what are you doing?” Vongard shouted. “Do you realize what you’ve just-“
The Septarian snapped his fingers, and Vongard was knocked to the ground by a large, green Septarian, Before the Baron could react, the green Septarian punched him again in the face, knocking the monster leader cold.
Anderson coughed, spitting up blood. “You bloody fool,” he said in spite of the pain, “All that woman wanted was peace. You of all people should know what this means.”
The Lizard grinned, and squatted down to eye level with Anderson. “Perhaps, Captain,” he said, “But have you considered that not everyone wants peace? At least,” he said, “Not until, shall we say, certain debts are repaid.”
“You’ll never defeat the Butterfly kingdom, Lizard,” Anderson growled. “Not as long as we have out magic. Your people will suffer for this.”
The Septarian grinned. “Captain Anderson, you of all people should know that my ‘people’ are used to suffering at your hands, I believe they can stand a little more. And besides,” he said, leaning in close, and whispering so only Anderson could hear, “They can suffer for eternity so long as I get what I want.”
Before Anderson could respond, he gasped in pain as the Lizard plunged a knife into his abdomen. For a moment, he tried to fight back-but then his strength left him, and the soldier could do little more than slump forward as blackness overtook him.
The Lizard stepped back from the dying soldier and turned to look down at the queen. She had long since stopped moving, and in her hand she clutched a small locket. Curious, the Lizard leaned down and pried it from her hands, before opening it to reveal a small portrait of the queen and her daughter.
“Moon,” the Lizard said. “I suppose we’ll meet soon, won’t we?”
Then, closing the locket, he tossed it onto the Queen’s body and signaled to his surviving monsters. As he left the chamber, he couldn’t help but grin at how well the plan had gone.
One queen down, he thought to himself.
A kingdom to go.

Here’s Proof of Some of my Recent Purchases

The spectre of whitewashing haunts Ghost in the shell
The silhouette of a spandex clad woman, bob hair lightly blowing in the breeze of the city night, stands on the edge of a drop. 100 metres from the busy streets below, a gun in each hand, Major Motoko Kusanagi slowly leans out into the night. Just as she’s about to fall, the glow of the Tokyo streets below lights up her face and we see the steely determi… wait… is that… Scarlett Johanson?
The trailer for the upcoming live action Hollywood remake of the much loved Ghost in the Shell series will probably be no real surprise to anyone. But perhaps it should be.
We’ve all become accustomed to Hollywood appropriating the work of other cultures whilst casting box office friendly actors, somewhat pastier than the source material requires.
Japanese anime and manga is no exception, the god awful remake of Avatar: The last Airbender staring a shaved headed Noah Ringer as Aang, is still seared by the sheer force of its dreadfulness onto my retinas.
This brings us to the upcoming release of Paramount Pictures’ Ghost in the shell. Based on the manga and anime series of the same name from late 80s and 90s Japan, that famously inspired the Wachowski’s to dream up The Matrix.
However, here enough adaptation from the original allows for a pale faced Keeanu to be our monotone flying cyber hero without raising any eyebrows, other than those raised in confusion at the climax of the third instalment.
2017’s Ghost in the Shell has no such excuse. Like Liam Neeson’s Ra’s al Ghul, Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One and pretty much every character in 2016’s Gods of Egypt, to name just a few recent examples, Hollywood’s faith in the source material and the audience didn’t extent to casting a Japanese actress in the lead role of Major Motoko Kusanagi.
One more time that’s Major Motoko Kusanagi.
Instead they’ve predictably gone for the box office, Marvel arse kicking action star and FHM magazine’s sexiest woman in the world 2006 Scarlett Johanson.
In her defence Johanson recently told Marie Claire in response to allegations of whitewashing, “I certainly would never presume to play another race of a person. Diversity is important in Hollywood, and I would never want to feel like I was playing a character that was offensive…Having a franchise with a female protagonist driving it is such a rare opportunity,”
Unfortunately for Scarlett, while this seems a sincere sentiment, it is also exactly what she is doing, and a brief google search of “Scarlett Johanson whitewashing” finds many a fan of the original anime unappeased by her pleas of innocence.
For my part I will reserve judgement on the merits of Rupert Sander’s film until I’ve watched it, but in a time when Hollywood is attempting to claim the moral high ground in the US perhaps it’s also time they had more faith in their audience and a bit more imagination in their casting.
As Major Motoko Kusanagi says, “If we all reacted the same way, we’d be predictable, and there’s always more than one way to view a situation.”

Galaxina Facts
I couldn’t help but noticed from @kururu418 was getting asked about Galaxina earlier. So I felt now was a good time to share some character facts about her as well.
1. Galaxina and her band are very famous and well known in Mewni.
2. Galaxina’s favorite colors are black & purple.
3. As a child, Galaxina had a special doll that she use to play with all the time.
4.While Galaxina loves to mess with almost any and everybody on a regular basis, her Astro & Breeze are her favorite targets and the ones who are the most frequent victim of her shenanigans. (She likes to mess with them in particular because she loves their pissed off faces.).
5. Before forming the G Squad Galaxina use to be apart of a duet with a fire nymph named Ashley Lavaheart. The duo disbanded due to jealousy (Mostly on Ashley’s end) & creative differences and have been rivals ever since.
6. Galaxina met her band mates after performing a gig at their respective tribes. (Gunther at the Giant tribe,, Gardenia at the Earth Nymph tribe etc.).
7.Galaxina has been to the Fire Nymph tribe once. But has never directly interacted with any of the notable residents. (She met Ashley outside of the tribe.)
8 . The G Squad’s music is a combination J-pop & Punk Rock with a hint of RnB
9. Galaxina owns a pair of dimensional scissors (She stole them from Hekapoo! XD)
10. On occasions, Galaxina would often visit other dimensions. Sometime to book her & her band new gigs outside of Mewni,sometimes to just hang out and have a little alone time.
11. Galaxina has her own dragon bike. Whom she affectionately nicknamed Diamond.
12. Despite their rocky start, Slick & Galaxina get a long pretty well and he would often join in on her antics (Much to Astro & Breeze’s chagrin.)
13. Galaxina hasn’t met the Kelpbottoms yet.
14. Galaxina has met the Johanson brothers before. But Twister is the only one she gets along with.
