This is an email from a city councilor I got a few years ago - she was emailing me because our fair city at that time was thinking about breed specific legislation and I was trying to talk her out of it - I was telling her that bsl gives people a false sense of security- yes, you ban one or two breeds and make them extinct - but what about every other breed that also bites and can cause harm? When a person is bit by one of those dogs - where is the justice for those people and what happens to those dogs? And she in her wisdom emailed me back - “so where do we decide what to start banning”? Dan, whose last name has not been disclosed, was 27 years old. Dan was given just eight days to prove that his dog Zanto was not one of the breeds banned in Denmark, and under #Danishlaw, the burden to prove #dogbreed is placed upon owners. When he was unable to do so, authorities removed Zanto and arranged for him to be killed. Soon after #Zanto was taken, Dan was reported to have overdosed on pain medication. His #dog, Zanto, had been euthanized in adherence with Denmark’s #BreedSpecificLegislation on #PitBulls. #Danishlegislation titled the #DogAct” also dictates that police are required to euthanize dogs that “savage” a person or another dog, but Zanto hadn’t attacked anyone. He was simply considered an #illegalbreed. The Dog Act bans the ownership and breeding of 13 breeds of dogs, including the #PittBullTerrier, #Kangal, #SouthRussianShepherd Dog and #AmericanBulldog. Some breeds have been illegal since 1991, but legislation in 2010 brought the number to 13. “I’m crazy frustrated, and that is why I made the decision to dedicate the day today for one special man,” the blog read. “Namely Dan who took his own life after the police came and took his dog.” #ForeningenFairDogFan, a Facebook page connected to Fair Dog, an association committed to dogs and dog owners, also dedicated their Facebook page to “Dan, his family, friends, and not least Zanto” “This is truly tragic. BSL (Breed Specific Legislation)

            As I like to call it; Bullshit legislation. As stated here from the official ASPCA website this crazy idea for “justice” is based on it is showing no signs of helping any issues at hand. Specific dogs breeds are being banned (discriminated) against and are being targeted by this bullshit legislation. https://www.aspca.org/animal-cruelty/dog-fighting/what-breed-specific-legislation 

It even states that, “The CDC cited, among other problems, the inaccuracy of dog bite data and the difficulty in identifying dog breeds (especially true of mixed-breed dogs). Breed-specific laws are also costly and difficult to enforce.” How does one know what exact type of dog breed they have unless it is actually registered with the American Kennel Association dating back to it’s early ancestry which specifies that dog’s bloodlines? It’s simple… they cannot! That is like looking at a human being and saying, you look dangerous because of your color, and the size of your head, and you need a healthy dose of legislation passed by our government because to us (society), you look “scary” or “dangerous”.

There are over 700 U.S. cities right now who have enacted breed specific laws based solely on how a dog looks, rather than acts. Bullshit! The Federation of Veterinarians of Europe also weighs in on this topic stating that, “To date, no scientific criteria have been identified by which it can be determined that a dog is dangerous by simply describing its racial or other physical parameters.” If you also take a look at the AVMA site (American Veterinary Medical Association)https://www.avma.org/KB/Resources/LiteratureReviews/Pages/The-Role-of-Breed-in-Dog-Bite-Risk-and-Prevention.aspx studies have shown that small to medium sized dogs are more likely to bite than bigger breed dogs. Unfortunately, there are many other factors that play a major role in why only the bigger dog breeds get reported like: the media bias, political propaganda, smaller dogs (however more frequent attack humans) are less likely to inflict severe trauma to the bite victim, population sizes within that state/city, and also population statistics of a specific breed.

That’s like making the following argument: . Ted Bundy was a brown haired, blue eyed, white guy who did a lot of bad things and hurt a lot of people. This was on a CTV news piece tonight - it’s sort of like the height of a person who has no idea about what breed specific legislation actually does and what it means - it’s a man talking about the tragic and horrible death of Megan Milner here in Nova Scotia yesterday - he’s talking about “those dogs” - “pitbulls” and he’d like to see more information about banning them and right in behind is obviously his own dog - a very happy looking mixed breed dog - a dog I’m sure he in no way considers to be one of those “pitbull” dogs who is capable of doing what happened yesterday - but I’ve got some news for him - as I’m sure anyone who’s been impacted by the vociferousness of breed specific legislation can tell him - his dog could definitely be targeted by bsl - the very type of legislation that he thinks might make his community safe from those awful “pitbulls” - all it requires is a call to animal Control about that dog behind him which I’m sure he loves very much - that dog fits just about all the markers for a pit bull - short hair, small eyes, a wider muzzle - I bet he’s got a pretty wide smile - all it’d take is one person afraid of that dog - an animal control officer with an attitude - in the world of bsl - that man would very soon be separated from that dog and there’s nothing that man would be able to do about it - just ask thousands of dog owners In Ontario if I’m wrong - I’m not wrong - this has happened thousands of times since 2005 in Ontario because you know why?
