They really love being photogenic in the dirtiest spots
#right under the window which is by far the biggest poop pileup in my loft#but look how prettyyyyy#i'm holding onto this little dude until i decide if i'll use him for a project or not - i'm debating breeding him back to a frillback hen#in hopes of getting more grouse-muffed frillbacks in my flock. but i'm not sure how curly the babies would be.

Staring at some of my favorite Hawkeye ships (BJ, Trapper, Henry, Sidney, Father Mulcahy) and starting to wonder if Hawk has a DILF kink
#not even daddy mulcahy and his flock of 'my son's is free from this particular sin#i think i'm onto something here though#is it aligned with the breeding kink or is it a whole separate thing that just happens to complement it#does he see a fertile man and instantly feel compelled to drop trou#my ramblings

Miss Maya grew up to be an Absolute Unit of a hen, she dwarfs all her sisters and she’s even bigger than Pluto! If I didn’t trust the breeder I got her from, I’d say a Jersey Giant egg got mixed in to my clutch somehow! But I don’t really care about that stuff anyway, I think she’s lovely and perfect just the way she is! I love her soft and shiny feathers and her big gentle eyes!
#she was a super cuddly chick but she’s in a shy phase that I hope she grows out of#anyway she’s supposed to be a Ameraucana x Faverolles cross but I think they have other breeds mixed in?#I think they use Easter Eggers in their breeding program since she says she has beardless birds in her breeding flock#I don’t know enough about breeding so I’m gonna trust the breeder on this one#genetics are weird so who knows#also the breeder doesn’t even have Giants or Australorps so it’s not like there could have been an actual mixup#I have two other Fauvacanas that look just like what you’d imagine them to#they both have beards and one has five toes feathered legs and a pea comb#while the other has a single comb and clean legs - they’re a perfect mix of both breeds#although they’re both birchen - I’m sure there’s an interesting genetic reason for that#chicken#chickens#backyard chickens#chickenblr#farmcore#pet chicken#Maya the chicken

I can’t stop thinking about this. Like why would you even think about rudely interrupting someone who’s with their partner and friends to ask them incredibly invasive questions? Imagine if you were at dinner and a complete stranger just walked up and bombarded you with intensely personal questions.
#taylor swift#absolutely insane that these were the questions they’d want to ask too#I get approaching her if she’s on her own and not in the middle of something and or someone notices and invites you to meet#but to interrupt a group evening to ask bizarre questions is so rude what happened to boundaries???#like what kind of breed of ‘fan’ is this?#you wouldn’t just be bothering her you’d be bothering the entire group#and before someone hits me with ‘it’s a joke’ I don’t really care it’s still a rude thing to consider#you can just acknowledge that she’s there and be like cool and leave them alone and not think about approaching her#like it’s not that hard to do to be respectful of other people#similarly related but people flocking to places where she is to either see her or meet her is so weird to me too

Teasel 1/8/25 New Year Update RH/PT/ODC/STRH x COF/RH/FB/GH Pied Indigo T-Pattern Sired by Nettle out of Suki 11/22/21 Bred by The Ramsey Loft Stud Cock
Assets: Structure is excellent, very close to my ideal. Family history of sweet temper and excellent parenting instinct. Keenly intelligent. Teasel is naturally flighty, but he's learning from the rest of the flock to be comfortable with me despite that. More minor asset is his Indigo coloring, required to make Andalusion.
Faults: Unbelievable dust monster! Flighty.

I spent the morning getting organized on the birds - the financial tab is rough and needs to be re-done, maybe monthly tabs, but I really like having a reservation list because it gives me a good idea how many and when to hatch for local stuff. Also had to buy another back up incubator b/c my old one is being funky. Should also alleviate the synchronized hatch problems - ie. one species hatches before the other while they're in lockdown together.
#I plan to switch the coturnix to 100% egg sales but I'll be hatching a small amount of valleys gambels and buttons#and raising some up for customers/me later in the summer#if the rain quail hatch and I get some breeding pairs I will hatch everything and sell nothing to get the flock up for later#will also sell out all the 2024 summer canaries & finches & doves - not planning to hold any of these guys back#as well as my breeder washouts

This fowl-tempered bird has a low probability rate of appearing, with a nasty peck. And a soft spot for bread. 🍞
Her battle theme would probably either be:

Or:

Actually more fitting. My sibling agrees.
#sketch#quick doodle#chicken#Based on the nastiest hen in my flock#Her name is Blue#She is a blue Easter egger#and the meanest thing to walk on two feet#I kinda want to breed her with my big rooster#Yakuza ost#Yakuza 7 ost#Youtube

Ah, so tell me Sugar or Salt for better preservation?
salt! especially when you're working with dry preservation, which is what it's being used for typically. sugar will attract bugs and other things which will eat away at the specimen, along with not drawing out the moisture nearly as well / at all.
but if you're working with things like rabbits feet, which are intended to be dry at the end, you'd think that the process involves just drying them, right? but you'd be wrong! the process (at least that i've followed in the past) involves soaking them twice, once in a soapy water mixture to remove parasites, then in a high concentrate isopropyl alcohol, rinsing thoroughly between steps.
processes vary depending on what you're working on. another example is that for the rooster i'm planning to take the wings from, i'm going to need to both remove his wings, and go through the process of removing the flesh while also keeping the skin in tact around his bones, since i'm going to be effectively stuffing the void with cotton, so that everything lays properly when its all dried. those are actually going to be dried in salt, which is primarily because he was a domestic animal and i know where he'd been.
#ask a ghost#asker: dragon-phoenix-along#ask anybody that's vced with me about the “morgue” in the freezer lol i have a collection of projects i've been chipping away at#the rooster's name is apricot btw! his feathers are a beautiful buff color and the hen that's the same breed is named peach ^_^#she's also our broody hen which is very entertaining#also further context. apricot killed himself on a fence and our birds have never been kept for the intent of consumption beyond their eggs#i actually have another one of the chickens who met a terrible fate because of that fence. they're a polish crested!#very pretty bird. sad we only have one of them now but the other one is called parsnip and she lives with our reject hen who's been#effectively plucked clean by the flock in the past. those two get along though so it's nice <3 they live up by the house
