Breakfast at Café Merkur
I must have passed Café Merkur at least a hundred times and never noticed it. Which is weird, it’s a large place with three different rooms inside and a really large outdoor terrace. Vienna during the summer feels totally empty outside of the first district and so was Café Merkur on this Saturday morning. It was almost difficult to choose a table, when everyone was available. terrace @Café…

Eggs Benedict in Vienna (Part 7)
What can I say? Eggs Benedict are still my favorite kind of breakfast. By now I have already infected my friend with this obsession and he eats them even more often than I do. Most of the times he even let’s me try, so that I can tell all about it. Eggs Benedict have become a staple food now in the Viennese breakfast scene. If you are a breakfast place, you need to have them on the menu. So here…

Breakfast at The Lark Bar & Eatery
The Lark Bar & Eatery is a new restaurant in Vienna and not only the bird from Romeo and Juliet. On this gorgeous Saturday morning the place was full, the terrace and inside. Without a reservation there was no place to be had on that day. Not sure if the interest derived only from the sunny weather, or if anybody just wanted to test a new place. To be honest, I was in the latter category. When…

Eggs Benedict in Vienna (Part 5)
Eggs Benedict have long been my favorite breakfast dish. After my ongoing search to find the best ones in Vienna, I needed a little break from this rich dish. But of course, when out for breakfast on Saturday, I am devoted to find the best and tastiest eggs for you. Okay, also for me. Because I love breakfast so much and especially eggs Benedict. There’s nothing better than eggs in a rich buttery…

Breakfast at Café Tagsüber
The Instagram appearance from Café Tagsüber (meaning during the day) looked promising. So I spontaneously paid them a visit on a Saturday morning. To no avail though! The small café was fully booked, which kind of confirmed my impression. While I regretted not snagging a table, I made a reservation in person for the next Saturday at my usual time. When we arrived at the allotted time, there was…

Breakfast at Oko Wien - update
It feels as if I had breakfast only recently at Oko Wien. And it’s true, it was at the end of summer that I went to Oko Wien for the first time. So why go again after such a short time you will ask yourself ? I am not really sure, maybe it’s because there are no other Japanese breakfast places in Vienna (at least none that I know of). Or maybe I was just in the mood for something Asian for…

Breakfast at Treu am Platzl
Fall has arrived, but it still feels like summer. What a delight then that Treu am Platzl has, as can be derived from the name, a beautiful terrace. The large space in front of the Piaristenkirche allows two restaurants outdoor space. In summer the heat from the surrounding buildings can be a bit much, but by now the temperatures are perfect. Piaristenkirche @Wien terrace @Treu am Platzl Treu am…

Breakfast at Oko Wien
Asian breakfasts are a rarity in Vienna. So when I saw Oko Wien, I was all for trying something new. The menu offers Onzen eggs, a Japanese specialty. They are only available Fridays and Saturdays from 10am on while supply lasts, or after per-ordering. Of course we had breakfast at 9am, so no onzen eggs for me. At least the weather was still nice and we sat outside. The Alser Strasse is usually…

Breakfast at Kleines Wiener Café
When you  enter  Kleines Wiener Café it really feels small, as the name already implies. Maybe it’s the entrance area, which includes the bar and the cash. Once you move further into the interior, it gets bigger. interior @Kleines Wiener Café Then when you look for the courtyard and only find the toilets the small feeling comes. But it’s all there, even the courtyard. courtyard @Kleines Wiener…

Breakfast at Zimmerservice - update
My one and only meal at Zimmerservice happened already more than two years ago. At the time I was not duly impressed, but I wrote that I would come again at a later time. So here we are, back to see if  time can make a difference. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived at 9am, with one other table being occupied. Of course our table was right to this one, so that the rest of the place…

Breakfast at Viola
From the outside Viola looks like a fairly small place, but there’s more than meets the eye. Besides a variety of cakes, tartes, and pies, vegan and non-vegan, Patisserie Viola also offers snacks throughout the day, breakfast during the week, and brunch on Saturday. But then only brunch and nothing else. We arrived at nine o’clock sharp and were almost the first ones on that Saturday morning. I…

Eggs Benedict in Vienna (Part 2)
As I told you before, testing and tasting Eggs Benedict (or some kind of variations of it) in Vienna is a work in progress. I am glad to say that sometimes I manage to eat something else for breakfast, but mostly it is the aforementioned eggs. They can get a bit overwhelming, especially since I am still looking for the perfect ones. In any case, here are new places I have found which serve this…

Breakfast at The Long Hall
Breakfast at The Long Hall
Finding a breakfast place on a Sunday and even more so on the third day of the new year is quite a challenge. But I was up for it and booked us a table at The Long Hall, an Irish pub with a really nice terrace seating. Just not in winter. Besides that the pub has another handicap at the moment. The road in front of it is under construction due to the underground extension. Not sure how long the…
