/gen not trying to be argumentative but if you consider brawn gp in the first few races of 2009 to be rocketship, what's weird about considering mclaren a rocketship in these last few races? like that that a car can be very very competitive for this half of the season. again, genuinely, to me it just seems like brawn gp had a development advantage for a while that the other teams caught up on, which also in 2024 (o, the inverse) happened to mclaren. :)
[disclaimer this is my personal opinion as a random tumblrina on the internet!!]
re: this post — I actually threw in the BrawnGP as a cheeky addition more than anything, and I would NOT put it even closer to the same level of dominance as 2014 or 2023 RBR. But it's only fair I'm being called upon to defend my thesis, so here it goes. To Me. Brawn had a wholly different concept than anyone else on the grid due to early-regulation loophole, and were absolutely dominant during their success streak. JB won 6 of 7 races with the only exception being a chaotic wet race. Once everyone else had the same tech, they only won 2 more. Mclaren don't have that level of engineering dominance right now. They've just nailed their updates better than anybody else (the much discussed front wing is also a Merc feature; flappy rear was only in play at a few tracks and has not singlehandedly guaranteed a win, see Monza.) Mclaren have only won 3 races of the last 10, as many as Mercedes, and I'd argue only Zandvoort and Hungary were a dominant display — Zandvoort because Lando won by 20 seconds even though Oscar didn't even get to the podium, Hungary was a 1-2. The competition at the front remains open. If not for Carlos's crash, Ferrari could still be a viable wcc challenger, and I don't expect they'll win the wdc. I don't expect them to go on a win streak just on the basis of their technology. TO ME that's not a rocketship, it's just a very good car
anyway again! that's just my opinion and I'm not expecting others to agree!! It's legit just nitpicking

Friendship bracelets & fan-cams - The 'fangirlification' of Motorsports
It’s no secret that motorsports and sports in general are seeing a surge in popularity. Formula One enjoyed a crowd of 1.3 million watching the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a brand new track with no history. But is this due to organic interest in the sport? Out of these 1.3 million, how many turned the race on for the first time with no expectations except to see fast cars zip through a street circuit? Or did they watch with an expectation, with the basic knowledge that can only come from consuming content on social media?
Shows like Drive to Survive (Formula One) and There Can Only Be One (MotoGP) have a reputation to be dramatized, fans of the shows labeled as ‘DTS fans’ and not true fans of the sport. This, unfortunately, is a common occurrence in many fan circles, affecting mainly women and younger fans, pushing them away from the sport. Mention your interest in Formula one or MotoGP around a certain group and expect to be quizzed on what DRS stands for or on what happened in Sepang between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez. Name a popular driver and brace yourself to be accused of liking them for their looks.
But there has been a change, not a sudden one, but a change that has been long coming.
The online fan-spaces of sports have slowly filled by more women, sharing their opinions, ‘live-tweeting’ and ‘live-blogging’ their reactions. It’s become a trend to make races an event with bracelet trading and painted shirts. This isn’t anything new, Japanese fans are known to flood Suzuka with intricate hats, each bigger than the last. The Tifosi (fans of historic team Ferrari) are known to come dressed in elaborate costumes. Popes, Priests and many more religious figures flock to Imola and Monza to bless the Ferrari Drivers. You can joke that Charles Leclerc enjoys a fan-base of mostly younger women, but the dedication Italian men show to him cannot be topped.
Even the teams and the sport itself are embracing the new attention from their fan circles. Duracell, battery manufacturers and sponsors of the Williams F1 team, have jumped in head first, posting ‘fan-cam Fridays’ of drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargent. Ferrari has even joined in, fans joking that the team posts ‘thirst traps’ of the drivers when they don't live up to standards. MotoGP takes a more subtle route, their latest campaign ‘under the skin’ an intimate look into the scars and tattoos of the riders. But the upturned eyes and soft lighting feels less than educational.
But is this a healthy path for the sport to go down? Should the sport rely on their drivers' looks and marketability to gain fans instead of pushing innovation and talent? It's a gray area at best. The days of proclaimed playboy Jenson Button prove that looks and talent can be balanced. But BrawnGP wasn't posting Jenson in an ice bath after a tough race.
If we are exploring the marketability of teams and its pitfalls we have to discuss Haas and Guenther Steiner. Moneygram Haas Formula One was once a pool of potential, the only American team on the grid. Haas could have been the envy of the grid, pride of the American fans. But Haas sits comfortably towards the back of the grid, known for Lego brick cars, the phoenix called Romain Grosjean and their Ex-team principal Guenther Steiner. Driver to Survive captured Guenther as a character in the paddock, with his colourful language and quotable sentences. Newer fans were swayed by his portrayal and then ultimately disappointed when their underdog lost to the dominant Max.
In the end, none of it matters. The sport is ever evolving and will always be evolving. The beloved Halo, saviour of many, was once seen as a curse. Only time will tell if the ‘fangirlification’ will bring the sport down or uplift it. It's not about the race to create the perfect sport, but more about the history and community built from it.
Yes Max Verstappen may be dominating the grid, but off-grid the real winners are the fans, watching history be made, and even be part of it.

really invested in whatever the fuck is going on with rosquez. did not realize there was so much drama in motorsports LMAO
Motorsports is Shakespearean in the way it's batshit crazy when it comes to drama.
But Rosquez is just drama from one series! Formula One has Brocedes (childhood friends to enemies to Neighbours that don't talk but one buys the other's children Christmas presents), also Spygate (literal Ferrari data being faxed from a shop in England to McLaren.), BrawnGP (team was bought for £1 and then won a constructor's championship with Jenson Button). The classic F1 grid was it's own sort of drama, like the drivers strike and prank wars.
Also Fernando Alonso, El Plan, and all the drama he keeps getting caught in like a cartoon villian (crashgate, literally getting amnesia, being accused of being a swinger. Sharing an ex with Valentino Rossi; the list goes on).

I saw someone say that Lewis should have moved in 2026 not 2025, so here's my opinion on why I believe he actually picked the right time and shouldn’t have moved in 2026:
His move works for 2025 because it gives Ferrari the perfect chance to be a strong challenger in 2026. Why not 2025? Shouldn’t he be focusing there? No, this is why it will be a ‘multi-year contract’, because 2025 is the start of a two year transition, and while I wouldn’t scratch out the opportunity there, the change of regulations in 2026 and beyond is the real opportunity Ferrari (and other teams) could benefit from as we have seen before (e.i. Red Bull/Ferrari 2010-2013, Mercedes 2014-2021, Red Bull 2022-probably 2025, even BrawnGP 2009).
Now, as we know, driving for the same team the year before the regulations change is and should be ideal for each driver, this means the team gets to know the driver enough to maintain the chaos of the new regulations under control = more efficiency. Besides, we have seen this move work for Lewis before (Mercedes 2013, one year before the regulations changed in 2014) so why wouldn’t he put his bets on it again? Especially with Ferrari, the land of dreams?
Is it a risk? Of course. I’m not saying this is bound to happen, any other team could be the one to pull off the change—the biggest challengers being: McLaren, Ferrari, Audi, even Mercedes and Red Bull—But I believe that, taking in consideration all of the moves and potential changes (staff, ideas, etc) happening in Ferrari by that moment, they could pull it off. (Or McLaren could be the one to pull it off, you tell me). It depends on what the Scuderia does.
Is it also a risk for Lewis because of the driver pairing and how Ferrari will have to choose between two number one drivers? Yes, but that is a much complicated topic I’m ignoring, in the end, this is also about the opportunity on the hands of Ferrari. It could benefit the WDC dreams of either Charles or Lewis.
Anyways it all depends. These are all thoughts, I just wanted to emphasize why I believe the timing is right. Kisses <333333

Last song I listened to: Dogs & Rocks by Birdtalker, who also wrote one of my current favourite songs Better in the Morning
Currently watching: tbh I don't watch a whole lot of tv/film, but the most recent thing I did watch was Three Body Problem which I still need to finish but have been putting off because the plot and characters took such a nosedive in quality and it pissed me off. Mostly though I enjoy watching youtube video essays and rewatching the BrawnGP doco for the umpteenth time.
Current obsession: Sexualising that old man!! (i.e. F1)
Favourite colour: Yellow!
Sweet/savoury/spicy: I gravitate towards savoury because I always feel the most satiated by savoury foods, but I also need a sweet treat at least once a day if I am going to make it through the horrors.
Relationship status: I am like the dawn, eternal and unbound from the trappings of human perception (I am single)
Again I don't really know who to tag, so please consider this an open invitation! And if you do do this ask game also tag me in it because I would love the read them!
