I am sick as a dog and loopy on medication. My pain-addled brain has decided that the best way to spend my time in this trying hour is to play Disco Elysium. I have not played a video game since 2018, and the last time I played one before that was in 2010. I'm bad at them. Pray 4 me and follow along at #poetry plays disco elysium

Stardew Valley (surprisingly, my favorite thing to do in it is fish!)

Celeste (i ended up liking this game a LOT more than I thought i would. My go-to game every time I want to play something)

Rainworld (the atmosphere! Everything looks so cool. I love being a little slugcat. I play this when I have a lot of time to waste, and feel like burnign a few hours without actually getting anywhere)

In Stars and Time (there is a very very long post somewhere on this blog where I liveblog the beginning of this game. The characters are so sweet and wonderful and i love them so much)

OMORI (this game is on its way to change my brain chemistry)

Undertale (I've been obsessed with this game for years. This game has warped me beyond recognition. I wouldn't be the same person i am today without this game.)

Disco Elysium (i haven't gotten very far in this game yet because it intimidates me, but from what I've played i can certainly say that this one of the games of all time. Gets me to chew on wires)

Friday Night Funkin' (it's colorful! It's bouncy! It's crude! There's some creepy cryptid stuff going on! Gangsters! A blue haired boy who speaks in a language that sounds like beeping! It's a rhythm game! What's not to love?)

Hollow Knight (i am stuck. At dung defender. I don't even have to fight him, I'm just stubborn. So I'm stuck there.)

last song: I went on a Roadhouse binge so Shadow by Chromatics. sometimes you gotta. also works like a charm with Disco Elysium brain so that's a plus.

last show: I'm watching Tales from the Loop as I knit. It is often slow in a way that doesn't work for me (cross my heart, I sat through three Lav Diaz films, I like slow. not sure what it is about this one that doesn't work for me, but also I'm not watching with full attention because I'm knitting) but I'm really enjoying the 'interconnected anthology' format (ideal) and the actual story every episode has been telling.

currently watching: I think the one before THAT was Sandman roughly as it came out so uh. Let's say currently playing, which is Sable! Of which I only have good things to say, very good things! What a delightful experience that feels tailor-made for me! From the concept to the aesthetics and music, down to certain very specific uncommon design decisions which I've been grumbling about for ages as an opinionated armchair game designer X°D this game gets me

currently reading: making room for a Luiga articles reread (but on laptop so I can take notes and liveblog to friends) to prepare for a PJÕL reread (ditto. Stopped after three chapters on my ebook reader because it was so inconvenient. gotta be annoying about it, sorry discord people) so I can finally maybe move onto something else which might just be The Master and Margarita. I finished Mieville's Kraken a few weeks ago which had its highs and lows.

current obsession: still trying to get a good grade in disco'ing that elysium, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve (sad trombone)

harry’s conversations with klaasje are sooo crazy like they have moments where they truly relate on a deep level but then moments where all of harry’s inner dialogue will either fawn (ooooghh poor beautiful lanky young thing we must protect her 🥺) or get furious that she’s not telling him the whole truth (devil woman… it’s like her love KILLED him…..) this man CANNOT stay normal about women

one thing gamers often fail to note is that the RCM is granted “rights” to police revachol by the coalition but they aren’t actually sponsored or funded by the coalition. their dire lack of resources is like. kind of a huge factor in the events of the game. kim clearly struggles with the fact that being loyal to the citizens of revachol and being loyal to the RCM is like two venn diagrams slipping and sliding across each other unpredictably. mapping a “defund the police” perspective onto the game would not make sense because those mfers are literally not even funded

there are so many kimharry fics in which kim doms harry but so far i haven’t seen any that address how challenging this would be for kim as a guy who describes himself as unimaginative. like no one is acknowledging the strain this would put on his imagination. i’m not saying he can’t dom like i’m absolutely in favor of that dynamic but i think the sexy roleplay aspect should be more of a struggle

kimharry is postgame canon to me forever but I’m legitimately not mad about it not being something you can pursue in the actual game, for a couple of reasons. the first is that the story is rich and multifaceted and plenty of those facets are already queer, in a very intentional and considered way. harry’s latent bisexuality is kind of peeking at you over the horizon, and that’s not because the writing is scared to commit to it; it’s by design. the second reason is I think there is just no way consummate professional kim kitsuragi would hook up with an amnesiac drug addled colleague he’s known for like a week in the middle of a murder case. harry is messy enough that if I could enact my kimharry agenda on the game I would simply add a dialogue thread where harry can make a move on kim but kim immediately rejects his ass. btw while I was writing this post I left the game running for a couple minutes and it triggered that one idle animation of harry and kim goofing around and picking each other up
