I love fake people, I love games, I love drama, music means nothing to me. I'm not a chill guy and if you fuck with my friends I will help you do it. I would betray any of my loved ones at any time and I would not hesitate to hit them with a car

Also I know this is neither here nor there but why does everyone have such varied accents. Like it's not as if Piltover people have English accents and Zaun people American or vice versa. It's just a seemingly random mix, with ONLY Viktor having a Russian accent despite being from Zaun like everyone else lsdkjfd

although idk maybe Victoire gets more focus in the last 50 pages or so that I have left. I should have waited to finish before posting that because I might end up looking stupid if she actually does get treated better by the book at the end lskdfjg

Alsooo I'm almost finished with Babel but I just lost momentum somehow and also after my fave character died it's kind of hard to get motivation to read it. Straight up I don't find Robin a very interesting POV character (not necessarily a criticism of this specific book, but rather this is the same in every Dark Academia book because the audience needs an entry point into the tight-knit and cultlike academic circle and so the POV character has to be normal enough to identify with but also halfway into the academia circle).
Also I do like how it treats subjects like colonialism and 1800s racism with gravity and the opressed with compassion. The tone of the book was to see Chinese people as real, individual people (even with so few actual Chinese characters), and not a faceless whole who are Different From Us. And sadly that's a tone you really don't see in many books featuring Chinese people, nor honestly in most media, so that made a refreshing change.
However I think the book's enjoyableness was held back a bit because almost all of the characters fell short of being believable. The character of Letty felt like the author was just taking out a personal grudge against someone she knew irl? The other characters constantly disliked and got annoyed by her and nobody liked having her around at all, excluding her and constantly thinking about how annoying they found her, then at the end this was supposed to all be justified because she turned out to betray them. She didn't feel like a real person at all but rather she was just there to be hated by both the characters and the reader sldkf. The betrayal would have felt a lot more real if any of the characters had liked her or thought of her as an equal at any point?
Also Victoire was so brushed over, as the only Black female character she faced double the discrimination but for some reason the book focused everything on how Ramy was perceived and not Victoire? I get that Robin was extremely close to Ramy and less so to Victoire, but if they were all supposedly so tight-knit and close then surely he would have realised she was facing the same and worse than Ramy? Yet it's only mentioned maybe 2-3 times in the book and the rest of the time glossed over.
Anyway aside from character work, I did enjoy the book and I liked all the etymology stuff especially. I kind of wish there was a bit more etymological stuff in there but tbh what I'm probably looking for is just a non-fiction book about etymology lskdfj.

alksdjf also I walked into Waterstones today with the intention of pre-ordering Wind And Truth (I somehow have not yet pre-ordered?) only to immediately overhear a team briefing where the manager was telling everyone how the pre-ordering system was down at the moment. So it is still unordered ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#personal#I don't have nearly enough time to reread RoW anyway but I just KNOW that E will be messaging me ASAP wanting to talk about it alskdjf

Starting Monday I will aim for 9 though!
OK I have GOT to stop opening my blinds after midday and only getting 3-4 hours of sunlight. smh
Tomorrow I am going to wake up early for ONCE and get a longer day
