why is mattel so allergic to giving their dolls curly natural hair
#like. i know irl black women can do whatever they want with their hair#black hair is super versatile and that's legitimately amazing#and i know giving hundreds of thousands of dolls tiny little braids would be very expensive to manufacture#even if the process is totally automated#but. would it kill them to give their dolls tighter curls??#or not just slap a few braids on top of straight hair and go 'eh good enough'#like. there are SO many natural hairstyles they could do that don't involve microbraiding doll hair#half up half down. fauxhawks. bantu knots. pineapple updos. tree braids. afros. afro puffs. thick twists. french braids#goddess braids. undercut fades. pixie cuts. literally just ponytails#like! there are so many options! and it feels like they keep hitting the mark#monster high

#eve best#rhaenys targaryen#house of the dragon#there's an odd throughline as to when she has her hair like this#it's usually intensely vulnerable moments#moments concerning the PERSONAL rather than the POLITICAL#where she has to prioritise or wants to prioritise the personal over the political#if we go with the idea that her typical hairstyle and the gold accessories occur when she's feeling most “herself”#which is synonymous when she's feeling at her most defensive and at her strongest#these all happen when she's stripped in some way and when she can't quite right herself#she doesn't look “normal” because she's not feeling “normal”#especially the updos#but it's interesting to note that even if you want to go with “oh her hair is loose because she's sleeping or resting”#check out episode 09 - because she sleeps with her braids in#she needs her defenses up#she's not being vulnerable in the Red Keep#she also cannot be simply a mother or a wife or a woman - not to mention an OLD woman (even though mid-50s isn't old)#but that's how the world perceives her so her hair is part of the intimidation#Rhaenys cares a lot about her appearance#anyway i'll stop ranting in the tags

Reading the Illustrated Edition of The Hunger Games and the pictures are really cool but I am also way too much of a nitpicker about how some of the drawings are inconsistent with the text. Like Katniss' hair is constantly down in her signature braid despite the story mentioning multiple times that she has it done up by her mom all the way from reaping until reaching the Captiol
