the footage from the Detroit bridgerton ball is interesting because it really shows how the skill of walking, standing, and moving in formal gowns and shoes has been completely excised from our upbringing for about fifty years now. all the beautiful women in the long gowns are having a good time but they're also very unselfconsciously slouching, shuffling, dragging their trains around, lumbering up and down stairs, etc. the only people who have formal proprioception anymore are A-list celebrities, actors, drag queens and ball participants and dancers. its a shame because it really ruins the effect of putting all that work into a formal costume when you're just sort of grimacing and A-posing the whole night
i mean there's no real reason to know this stuff anymore it's just kind of a bummer both for aesthetic and for self expression reasons.
