One of my favorite things about sharing cultures with other people is when one person freaks out over something that's typically taken for granted in its original culture.

Like for example, my work pal Ed brought me these Spanish coconut cookies that I've never had bc OK is a cultural desert and my mom is allergic to coconuts. I loved them so much i ate a whole sleeve in one go, and Ed brought me my own boxfull the next day.

In another example, at lunch today i brought Oreos to share, and Ed started GUSHING over them like "So delicious!! Oh my god!!" And "Try them try them they're GOOD!" Even though i'd brought them and had already had five. I was sitting there thinking "Ed. . . they're just Oreos?"

Additionally, Ed opened his lunchbox very excited a month ago, and gave me this fruit i couldnt identify by looking at. "Try try!" He says. Turns out they were dates. And i was like it's a date? Do you love them? And he goes on to tell me that in Iran, dates are a huge delicacy because of how hard it is to get the trees to reproduce. That really surprised me, bc i know for a fact you can buy them in the snack aisle at Wal-Mart on a whim, and I'd never given it a second thought having grown up on Wal-Mart groceries.
