so then! now that round one is wrapped up and the first batch of round two's polls have been posted, (note: tumblr glitched and posted this too early so that's not in fact true yet as of when this is being posted) now's a good time to go through some of the characters from the preliminary nomination process that didn't make the cut!

a lot of people wanted to nominate Bowsette, but since she doesn't have a Super Mario Wiki article she is not eligible, and in fact the nomination form mechanically prevented people from submitting a nomination without providing a Super Mario Wiki link. however, if I had counted nominations based on what conceptual character people were trying to nominate instead of just looking at the provided Super Mario Wiki article, Bowsette would have made it into the top 128, and I would have had to exclude her manually.

technicalities

as you might have noticed from the 128 characters that did make it into the bracket, a lot of nominations were for subjects that, under some technicality, qualify as a "Mario character". disappointingly, the technicalities that didn't make it into the bracket were, generally speaking, really boring. the main types of not-really-Mario-characters people nominated were:

crossover characters, Sonic characters especially

real-ass people. I'm pretty sure every single person in the Super Mario Wiki's Category:People was nominated at least once. after making a poll about it, I decided that real people are only eligible if they appear in some piece of official Mario media as a fictional version of themself, so real people with entirely nonfictional relevance to Mario are disqualified

non-characters. none of the specific nominations of this type that didn't make it into the bracket are really worth highlighting; it's just random stuff that happens to have a Super Mario Wiki article

typographic characters, which were disappointingly uncommon. Letter (Super Mario Odyssey) only got one nomination!

During Bowsette's 2nd anniversary a thought popped into my mind: if such a character were in Smash, what would her moveset be like? So then I came up with a "fusion" concept, combining both Peach and Bowser's Special moves. This is the result.

Of course, in my vision of this concept, this would be a fusion character, and thus, more powerful than a regular single fighter, which is why some of these might seem a bit too... overpowered lol

Fun fact: The NSpecial is mostly based on Bowser's SSF2 counterpart where it's a fireball instead, but here it contains either a Goomba or a Koopa Troopa, and when hit, they'd both break out of the fire and explode, specifically Goomba releasing spores (since it's also a mushroom)

Fun fact N°2: The glider she uses for her USpecial is the same glider Bowser uses during a very iconic Mario Kart moment

What does a woman find attractive in men when she can snap men between her fingers like twigs?

What drives her to snatch a SPECIFIC man up and carry him off to her lair, the way that Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach?

Bowsette is already the queen of her own kingdom. Is she kidnapping Prince Peach for his money? I don't think that would be enough for her to say, "I want to take him home, break his hips, and have his babies."

For context, I wanna give Bowsette a last name like how Peach is Peach Toadstool but I have negative zero ideas. The best I got is trying to theme it around the fireflower but it feels too obvious and any alternatives feel like I'm designing a warrior cat's OC (no hate to the thing that raised me in middle school I'm jsut saying). anyway yall seem to have good ideas every time I ask for them and I like having all the little things down and this would be fun to figure out. Lately I've been obsessed with this video. No idea what specifically it is, but this happens every now and then. I run across a music video and I just have to watch over and over. The weirdest thing is that once the frenzy passes, I can no longer enjoy that one. I don't start hating it, but I think this time next year I won't be able to enjoy this video even on par with a typical one.

It's as if "enjoyment of a given subject" is a candle, one that grows very slowly, but if you use it up completely, it stops regrowing.

I enjoy that the message of the song is basically, "Stop chasing around the princess; she's too stuck up because she's royalty. Date me, your trans baddy frenemy instead (who is also fully a royal but forget about that)."

I can't believe it's been over five years since the Bowsette phenomenon first blew up. It feels so much more recent.

​for some reason, it won't let me reply to the post, buti see bowser as genderfluid + trans because bowser jr is biologically his, with no other mother in sight. something funky is going on there and whatever it is, i think it's trans. im not opposed to a transfem hc, although it wasn't specifically about bowsette! -- He's killing it on the voice, but we all knew he would. I'm most shocked that Illumination seems to have put some real detail and work into his character model. They are known throughout the animation industry for being cheap as hell. So its nice to say that Bowser looks great!!

Okay so, today at work, while I was doing more sketches of Bowsette between my cycles, I ended up having an idea. A comic series of Bowsette’s transitioning.

I have a story idea in mind and I plan on making a comic/ask blog specifically for this plan of mine.

Well I was gonna say “this one time a fletchinder was staring at us and she started acting nervous” but apparently according to an Alola edition of the dex they’re not intelligent enough to know bird mons want to eat them? I… don’t know how much that’s true though. Seems kinda mean. Maybe it meant like, captive bounsweet that are raised for their sweat because they don’t recognize predators. Or something. I dunno. But uh she definitely seemed nervous about the fletchinder so probably that.

Corey and Oats in..

The Mega Console Adventure.

Everyone’s favorite duo loved to play together and one afternoon they were in their bedroom in Nile Road playing a game where Mel came to show them a new invention she had discovered, it was a video game console known as the ‘Mega Console’, the duo hurried over to the console and tried out some of the games with special invisible controllers.

They tried out various different combinations and as they did, they turned into numerous different forms…Corey found himself turning into the Noid from the Dominoes Pizza commercials. ‘Well this is a weird choice but hey, i’m not complaining.’ He pressed another combo button and this time he turned into Fat Gum from MHA, and then he pressed another combo…turning into Dr Robotnik, specifically the Sonic SATam version, and then he morphed into the one from The Adventures of Sonic. He was still himself though and he turned back to normal before trying another combo, this time he and Corey became versions of themselves with video game based abilities.

They created various levels to play around in and they brought the other microbes along, Mel found a cereal item in the game that came to life and she ate it, undergoing a transformation into a plus sized cereal-crazed elephant-man named Eddie Phant. ‘Why do I suddenly feel like I want cereal and nothing but cereal?’

She panicked as her stomach growled, but luckily she didn’t let the stomach tell her what to do as she resisted the urge to eat more cereal and she ate another cereal and turned back to normal. ‘Phew, that was a freaky experience.’

Corey chuckled as he tossed her a Super Crown power-up that turned her into a version of herself combined with Bowsette. Mel also found herself turning into Tanya Bandicoot and Roxy from FNAF: Security Breach, while Oats enjoyed watching his favorite owner turning into different creatures.

Oats spinned around as he became Princess Peach which he loved because Peach was a princess just like him…Corey then ate some bananas that caused him to bulk up and grow fur as his feet became hand-like and his appearance became ape-like as he even got himself a tie with C.K on it and he recognized that he had transformed into Donkey Kong.

"Are you Donkey Kong?"

"I'm me but also yeah i'm kind of like Donkey Kong."

Luckily unlike in some of the ‘episodes’ related to DK, Corey wasn’t a dumb ape but a smart Kong and he knew that being a Kong was interesting. 'I've personally never had any beef with monkey/primate tfs but this is good.’ The duo had all sorts of fun in the level battling mini-bosses and taking on challenges for extra pointis.

An hour later the duo came across a special bonus level and explored it, after completing all the levels Mel told them it was time to go home and they followed her. After leaving their little game world they arrived back in Nile Road and had some fun in the lounge for bit, when it was time for dinner they all gathered together and had some nice food, and after dinner they had some nice treats for dessert.

They had a karaoke party and they all got ready for bed when the party was over and picked a snuggle buddy for the night, and thus with that the adventure ends but there are more adventures coming up.
