#bowser's fury

A particular controller input widely used for a glitch in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (and other 3D Zelda game) speedrunning surprisingly also results in glitched behavior in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

The input is known as the "ESS position", named after the Extended Superslide, the glitch it is most commonly used for. It requires holding the analog stick precisely just outside the dead zone (the zone near the middle of the joystick where input is not registered as movement) tilted in the direction opposite the one Link is facing. The top image shows the input as detected by the software.

If this input is performed in the exact same way in Bowser's Fury while Mario is swimming, he will swim backwards for as long as the stick is tilted in the ESS position.

Fact: In Bowser's Fury, Bowser Jr. uses the magic brush he first used in Super Mario Sunshine. With it, he accidentally transforms Bowser into Fury Bowser. He creates a portal that's spawned from a Shadow Mario M to bring Mario to Lake Lapcat, similar to portals he made in Super Mario Sunshine. He also uses electric goop to paint Power-Ups.

In the Bowser's Fury mode of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, thrown kittens can be used to kill the Luigi-like Fury Shadows.

Note how Mario throws a kitten and the Fury Shadow runs into it a few frames after it lands (where it still retains its "having just been thrown" property), dying on contact.

bowser's fury is a very intense game, i can't imagine mario is keeping a level head 100% of the time. knowing you could actually die with little warning at any given moment gets to you, who would have guessed! good thing junior is there to be right about everything all the time
